Born and raised in Santa Barbara, CA, McMahon immediately fell in love with music once Elivs. hit the scene and years before The Beatles and the rest of the British Invasion took over the world. Having played in bands during his school days, McMahon, like most men in our country during this time, were afriad of being drafted into the Vietnam war, so McMahon inlisted in the Air Force. Stationed in San Fran, McMahon saw the greats of his generation during their humble beginings and quickly realized somethig deepley spiritual was taken place in America. Having spent 11 months in Asia, it wasn't until his return to the states that he felt lost and isolated from his community. Thus the dawn of his legendary album, "Spirit of the Golden Juice". Recorded live in studio in 1969, McMahon shopped his record all over town for the next couple of years before realizing that a career in music wasn't in the cards. Nearly 50 years, his legacy and audience has only grown and now McMahon is a legend among legends and celebrated all over the world.

I made this podcast when the movie Elivs was released in 2022. Now that it is nominated for Oscar awards, many of which it deserves - happily however Baz wasn't nominated as a director or as a screenplay writer - but I stand over my assertion that the movie ultimately betrays the soul of Elvis Presley. His real story is infinitely more fascinating and too deep for Baz to explore. This podcast has led to me being attacked verbally by many of my fellow Elvis fans. So be it. I say what I believe.
Elivs is big, loud, and shiny...and so is the movie by the same name. There was some pleasure watching this movie, and there was some pain, so put on your blue suede shoes and join us as we talk about the highs and lows of this epic biopic about the late King of Rock and Roll.

Live albums aren't for everyone, and if you want to get technical, some might say Elvis isn't either. I'm not sure who those people are, but I'm sure they're out there somewhere. Regardless of what you think about Elivs, live music is something that he did exceptionally well, and if you're looking to get into listening to live recorded music, this might be a proper place to start, A majority of artists might go their entire music career without playing Madison Square Garden. Even fewer artists have the ability to sell out Madison Square Garden when and if they get the chance to play it. Elvis not only sold out Madison Square Garden, but he sold it out five times in two days, and then put out two different live albums from the events, and by putting them out I mean he released one of them literally eight days after the show—which even in modern times is completely unheard of. Released in June of 1972, the album was met with much acclaim which helped the album peak at number 11, on the Top 200 US Billboard Albums Chart by August of the same year. The concert and subsequent albums were promoted as being Elvis' first live concerts in NYC since the 1950s, so to say that these shows and the two albums that came from them were a big deal, is certainly an understatement. Despite what appears to be a rather lengthy tracklisting, the release only made its way onto one double-sided LP. Much later on, Evlis' drummer Ronnie Tutt would shed a little light on why this might have been sighting that "The Colonel" Elvis' manager had the mixes sped up so that more songs could fit on the album, increasing his song royalties.Elvis, As Recorded at Madison Square Garden would go on to be certified Gold in August of 1972, Platinum in May of 1988, Double-Platinum in March of 1992, and then Triple-Platinum by July of 1999. This isn't just any live album and if you ask Kyle, he'll tell you that it just might be THE quintessential live album. I guess you can be the judge of that after you come with us as we talk about everything a live Elvis performance has to offer. It's season 4, episode 17 of your favorite music podcast (even if you don't know it yet). LET'S GO!!! What if you could return a dead celebrity back to life? Would you do that? This week the Soul Forge tries out a thought experiment based on this very idea. Here we present to you, The Dead Celebrity Resurrection Project! Your mission: pick 3 dead celebrities. Divide 50 years of life between the 3 of them in whichever way you see fit. The catch: the death must have been accidental such as a plane crash or a heart attack. Therefore, older celebrities dying from cancer or similar are not included. The game is not as easy as it sounds. Who will you bring back, and how many years of life will they get? It's the Dead Celebrity Resurrection Project! Some of our dead celebrities include: Aaliyah. Elivs, John Ritter, Jesus, George Michael, Jessi Combs, Jack Layton, Steve Jobs, Shakespeare, Vincent Van Gogh, Robin Williams, and Heath Ledger. We also have a wish to give Betty White 50 bonus years right now. Grab some friends and try this little thought experiment for yourself. It can provide hours of fun! Friend of the show and the intelligence behind Clattertron and Foxes & Boxes, Daniel J. Hogan suggested this week’s film. Surely he’s chose it out of some sort of patriotism because it stars the commander in chief, Ronald Reagan. Oh, it also stars a chimpanzee. Pet Sounds Radio host Sarah Hoyles kindly joined us as well. We didn’t learn until the day of the show that she rarely watches films with animals! It was a pleasure to see things from her perspective. We hope you’ll listen to learn more. Don’t worry if you’re falling from an 8 story building, the Browder Life Safety Net will certainly break you in much more interesting way than the ground. Sarah reminds us of The Bear. Sorry for the spoilers, but it is 30 years old. Let’s not hurt animals in film Leonardo DiCaprio. Who is the moustached character in the photo? Is it Rappin’ Ronnie? Our show is not brought to you by 23andMe. Instead, we’re funded by listeners like yourself. And our moms. Chris thinks this film is a precursor to Three’s Company. Meanwhile, Dan points out that it may actually be the predecessor to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Bonzo is to be sold! What? Can’t we make money in the Iran-Contra affair instead? Chris steals a joke from Noises Off and it gets awkward. Dan reminds us, as does the film, to study our Freud. There’s a sequel? Oh no, Bonzo Goes to College. Bonzo was played by Peggy the chimpanzee. There’s a nice page here on this beautiful creature. Dan shares this wisdom from actor Dick Miller, if a chimp gets aggressive, bite him. He heard this story on another podcast, but their archives are behind a paywall. Tippi Hedren, the mom of Melanie Griffith, founded The Roar Foundation to provide sanctuary for mistreated exotic animals, educate the public and advocate for legislation. The insane trailer for Tippi Hedren’s film Roar. As it states, no animals were harmed in making the film but 70 of the cast and crew were. The 80s film that was far more than teenage angst, Project X, with Matthew Broderick and Helen Hunt. Movies from the past are an insight to the culture of their time. Eww, that Elivs film we watched. Can’t stop, won’t stop watching Leave It to Beaver. Dan suggests a few podcasts, Star Wars Minute, The Dollop, and The Adventure Zone. Congrats to our guest Sarah for joining the Entertainment One podcast network! Thanks to you for listening! You can find us wherever you get your podcasts, Google, Apple, or your favorite apps. Be sure to check out the amazing Pet Sounds, we guarantee you’ll love it! You can find Sarah Hoyles on a number of social networks. Also, find our friend Daniel J. Hogan’s work on Clattertron.com. Again, he’s on a number of sites, just follow the previous link. And remember, never give or sell your chimps to Yale. Support Film Frown on Patreon
Nick Sales, LDS Musician and Influencer This episode is all about being an “mormon influencer.” An influencer is a term that advertising and public relations professionals use to describe people that have a certain influence over the public, be it an audience from their social media activity, youtube videos, or the occasional podcaster. There is a growing pool of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that are being missionaries, or being ambassadors of the gospel of Jesus Christ, by being an influencer. On today’s episode we have two interviews back to back with some of the young return-missionaries that are influencers, and having a positive impact on the world through their music and youtube videos. First, Kelsey Edwards and I interview Nick Sales. He is a video producer, musician and influencer that will introduce this idea of being a missionary in today’s modern internet world using social media in missionary work. Nadia Khristean - LDS Musician and Influencer. "Music for a cause" After that interview, Kelsey interviews Nadia Khristean about how her mission to Peru inspired her post-mission career to create music with a message, or music for a cause. We will be hearing music from both of our influencers throughout this episode. In our Latter-day Lives segment from Shawn Rapier who interviews Kerry Summers who is a magician, ventriloquist, and all around entertainer, but most notably for this interview, Kerry is an Elvis Enthusiast and impersonator. He tells a super amazing story from his mission service that you will be glad to stay tuned for. Please go listen to Kerry’s full interview on the Latter-day Lives. He has a cool story about a Book of Mormon that was given to Elivs, as well as evidence that he read it and made notes about his impressions of the Book of Mormon, go check it out.
