Radu is the type of performer that is regarded by many fellow comics as a comedian's comedian. He not only wins over audiences at comedy clubs, his contrarian approach often involves him throwing out ideas and notions that challenge the audiences' worldview. As he lays out his arguments, the unthinkable suddenly becomes so convincing for the audience and then chuckles come along. Radu's comedy is not just funny - it also makes you think. All these are achieved without Radu having to resort to stereotyping his home country. In the first part of the interview, Radu talks about how he has always been aware that he has an accent either in USA or in the UK, or even back in Romania.---------------------------------------Radu's Instagram (@radu70mld)Radu's 2022 Edinburgh Fringe Festival show "Pandemic"If you like the episode, please share it and leave a review. Phil Wang jokes about contraceptives in his Netflix special, "Philly Philly Wang Wang".
Critically acclaimed stand-up who has sold out shows in Australia, Scotland, The UK and Sweden, he is known for a relaxed style of storytelling comedy with occasional flares of silly and love for switching between profound and profane in a moment. Originally from Australia, he has been based in London for the last 4 years. So picture this, an Aussie comedian with a touch of that dry English humor mixing with the locals in remote places of diverse cultures. It just cannot be incident free.Anthony describes some of his performances and experiences along the way, all of which you much listen to.His dating experiences are definitely worth listening to, especially with the one who turned out to be a doomsday prepper. He has visited 80 cities in 20 countries and usually sticks around for several days to mingle with the locals. Ending up homeless in Moscow pushed the limit of tolerant travel but there is always a story to tell.Give it a listenThe name of his web site is great "HighBrowDrivel"You can find him here:https://www.highbrowdrivel.com/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSQNjADQBQUhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_kWUev-4BM

Self professed working class, Lancashire-born millennial, Brennan Reece found his passion for performing as a child actor from the age of 4. Having no idea that comedy was a thing people would employ you to do his varied talents saw him make the inevitable transition from an early career in theatre and film, to live stand up.In 2016 Brennan's perfectly pitched debut show EVERGLOW was recognised for its heart-rending honesty and cheerful warmth and saw him deservedly nominated for BEST NEWCOMER at the 2016 Edinburgh Comedy Awards. The success of Everglow has seen him gigging (and giggling) all over the the world, including Australia, – where he went on to be nominated for BEST SHOW the Australian Fringe World 2016, as well as tours in New Zealand, Holland and France.A classic ‘triple threat' entertainer, the 30 year old English Comedian of the Year winner has featured in everything from popular TV shows like The Comedy Allstars (ABC), Skins (Channel 4) and The Johnny & Inel Show (CBBC), feature films such as Soulboy and Marvelous (BBC Films), as well as handful of serious plays and all singing and dancing musicals. He has supported the likes of Rob Brydon and Nick Offerman on tour and his 2017 solo tour EVERLONG has just been extended into 2018 due to a hugely popular sell out run. This comic's knack for spinning a hilarious and ultimately uplifting yarn is proving to be the perfect antidote for those millennial woes…Instagrams:@doingbitslive@eshaanakbar@vittorioangelone@brennanreece

http://thecomedycast.com/ Hello and welcome back to The Comedy Cast; today you’ll be hearing from English stand-up comedian Kwame Asante. We kick off the interview and speak about his ongoing Edinburgh Fringe Festival show, Open Arms. We speak about the themes behind the show and his inspiration for it. We chat about it being Kwame's first full-hour show and how he says it's been a long time coming. We talk about how the previews had been going and Kwame speaks about his excitement about bringing his first hour-long show to the Fringe. I ask him whether he's nervous about getting back on the scene having had a 4-year break while he was finishing his studies. He has performed at Edinburgh many times over the years though, just not with a solo show, so I asked him about some of the highs and lows that he's experienced performing up in Edinburgh and what he's learned that he can use to ensure he puts on a good show this time around. Kwame is a doctor, a proper medical doctor, none of this Hunter Thompson stuff, so I ask him about if there are any similarities between the two disciplines and what he's learned from being a doctor that he can use as a stand-up comedian. We talk then about how it can be tricky to fit in doing stand-up comedy while having a medical career, but Kwame says that he's found a way to do it and that he make sure to keep time for comedy because, for him, is about being inspired, about improving his writing and about getting up and performing his material on stage. We speak about the dark humour that doctors and medical professionals are known for and where that comes from and why so many doctors embrace life because they know we could be gone at any moment. We get talking about why dark humour is so prevalent among medical professionals and Kwame speaks about something very interesting, about how when you work so many hours you sometimes forget that out in the real world it's not full of sick or dying people so when you're working and surrounded by morbid situation you develop different coping mechanism than you would if you works in a job where you didn't always see sick people. We chat then about the reaction of medical colleagues when they find out he also does stand-up comedy. We speak about the advances in medical technology and how in the future Kwame hopes that Google won't make him obsolete. We get back to comedy then and we speak about the challenge Kwame faced of putting a show together, and using his best bits from over the years and trying to weave them together into an show-type narrative. We speak then about Kwame's writing technique and how he goes from the original idea for a joke to performing it in his set.
http://thecomedycast.com/ Hello and welcome back to The Comedy Cast; today you’ll be hearing from English stand-up comedian Stuart Black. We kick off the interview in unusual fashion, with a bit of a preamble about who much Stuart reminds me of Britain's greatest punk poet, Mr. John Cooper Clarke. We delve into me fiding out I'm lactose intolerant, Stuart says when a man can't eat cheese a man can't live. Then he tells me about the impending doom of a butter shortage. Stuart tells me a little bit then about his Irish roots and I reveal why the Polish thing the Irish and British are inbred. We get onto Stuart's Edinburgh Show then, It's the End of the World as We Know it, he tells me all about the show, what it's about, where the inspiration came from and of course when and where it's on during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We have a chat then about why a late night slot perfectly suits his show. We get talking then about positive 'morning' people and why it's all delusional, sure you feel good watching motivational talks and videos but then you've got to go and sit on a bus to work. We speak about the cycle of growing up and how as we get older we always look down up the new, but Stuart like to look at the madness happening in the world and point and laugh at it. Stuart talks then for a bit about his particular style of comedy, certainly alternative and definitely dark, and how while we can all watch the world go up in flames it's important that we don't just point and say something is shit, but that we laugh at just how completely ludicrous it all is anyway. He speaks about how he comedy came from a place where he was always trying to break the tension at home, and he believes confronting uncomfortable situations from an early age with humour led him down the road to the comedy he performs now. This is Stuart Black's 12th time at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival so we speak about that for a while and all the things he's learned over the years, and some of his highs and lows over the years, one of the lows including a pretty nasty story about a rat and a seagull. We speak about Stuart's comedic influences and how he works on his material. We speak about what the future holds for the world, and how Stuart is kind of optimistic....kind of.
http://thecomedycast.com/ Hello and welcome back to The Comedy Cast; today you’ll be hearing from English stand-up comedian Andy Storey. We get straight in the Edinburgh Fringe stuff and speak about the show he's putting on with Maddie Campion, Epoch. Andy's the first 'clean comedian' we've had on so I was really interested to get to ask him some questions about clean comedy and how he sees it as being more difficult to be both funny and clean and how he enjoys the challenge of it. We chat about how recently he was compared to Vic Reeves and Alan Bennett and how comparisons like that make him feel. We speak about what he's learned over the years from putting on shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We talk then about the kinds of existential questions that come to comedians when they're performing; do the audience care; why am I bearing my life and soul to people I don't know who I'll never see again, deep things like that. We chat then for a minute about the the depths of the subconscious and how you can't even trust your own mind as it's always playing tricks. And it's always good to keep grounded by reminding yourself that everything is meaningless really. We talk about why he loves gigging so much, doing 5-nights-a-week as much as he can, honing his material at Open Mic nights and New Material nights around London. We speak about that god-awful phrase 'the comedy voice' and how Andy has learned over the years to be more like himself on stage. He sees less of a difference between who he is on stage and who he is in real life. We talk for a bit then about how Andy likes to challenge himself by constantly testing out new material, knowing that he cannot rely on trusted material he has to push his stage presence, his charisma and get his new ideas across well to the audience to get them laughing. We natter too about the importance of language in joke, how particular words at particular times can completely change how an audience laughs, he speak about using the phrase 'hipster hairdressers' instead of 'hair salon' and how the reaction of the audience was totally different. We speak about why some people need a push to get into things and how it took him so long to get into comedy even though he'd always wanted to do it.
http://thecomedycast.com/ Hello and welcome back to The Comedy Cast; today you’ll be hearing from English comedian, Zahra Barri. We speak about her Irish and Egyptian roots, where she lives in London now and what it was like spending a few years in Saudi Arabia as a child. We talk then about what it was like growing up in a multicultural family. We chat about comedy writing and how it was writing that lead Zahra into comedy. We talk as well about whether it's something she wants to pursue in the future. We have a chat about how comedians evolve and how they have continue to evolve over the years to keep their audience interested and laughing. We talk about the difference between the on-stage persona and the off-stage persona and about how the person on-stage is a heightened version of the off-stage person. We natter then about the line in comedy, why it's OK for men to joke about their penises and wanking but women are slated for joking about vaginas and periods. We talk about how really jokes should be judged on how good they are, it doesn't matter if a joke is 'dirty' if a joke is good it's funny, if it's not then it's not. We talk then a bit more about bodily functions, and I get to leave more about something Zahra jokes about; cystitis, or the honeymoon disease as it's more commonly known as We talk about Zahra's writing process then for a bit and how she works on her act. We talk about Zahra's upcoming Edinburgh Fringe show, Walk Like an Egyptian (Bar 50, Edinburgh - https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/zahra-barri-talk-like-an-egyptian).
Enjoy 15 minutes of stand up and chat with the current English Comedian of the Year. “Kitson wasn’t in the competition. Bottled it probably.” He started performing comedy in May 2014, at a gong show. It went so well he simply hasn’t looked back. ‘Josh Pugh: A Boy Named Pugh’ is appearing as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe: https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/josh-pugh-a-boy-named-pugh Twitter: @JoshPughComic Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/josh.pugh.9003 Website: http://joshpughcomedy.com/ Comedy performance provided by the artist for promotional purposes. http://thecomedycast.com/ Hello and welcome back to The Comedy Cast; today you’ll be hearing from English comedian, Sheraz Yousaf. We get straight into comedy as Sheraz had recently played some roles in a theatre production so I wanted to know was character acting something he'd like to pursue as well as comedy. We speak about Sheraz' first gig and a comedy course he took before he took the stage for the first time. We speak a bit then about comedy courses in general, their pros and cons and the strange experience he had on his when a guy made some risque jokes one time and never showed up. Sheraz regularly releases videos on YouTube, so we speak about them for a bit, his inspiration behind the four different types of videos he puts out and how he got into it. We talk about how he keeps bumping into old men who have a fascination for one aspect of their local region. We speak about our shared interest in religion, while neither of us are religious we speak about how we both find the origins of religions fascinating. We have a chat then about Sheraz' show The Persuit of Manly-ness. We talk about the main theme of the show, are we as men losing our way and becoming less manly? What is 'being manly' even supposed to mean? We delve deep into the topic and discover a few things about ourselves. Sheraz speaks about how he likes to change the order of the show and how he works on trying to perfect it. Finally then, we speak about Sheraz' influences growing up and the type of comedy programmes he was watching in television.
http://thecomedycast.com/ Hello and welcome back to The Comedy Cast; today you’ll be hearing from English comedian/comedy character actor, Maddy Anholt. We dive straight into Maddy's type of comedy, character comedy, what she loves about it and, if things go badly, how she can blame the characters if and when things go wrong. We go back to beginnings then and speak about growing up on Devon before moving to London to pursue a career in acting and comedy. We speak about her new show which she'll be performing at this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Herselves. A show about the different personalities we use in our daily lives. We talk about the idea behind the show and Maddy admits to liking to play different characters in her daily life with different people as well. We chat about the lack of comedians who play different characters on stage and how the people who do it find it so liberating to take on a persona and delve into comedy that wouldn't normally suit their on-stage persona. Maddy recently set up her own TV production company, MadMaddyTV, so we get taking about the ins and outs of that, how and why she established it, and some of the common pitfalls associated with setting up one. We dig a bit more into this then and talk a bit more about the TV industry and how to get things made and what to avoid doing. We speak about Maddy studying acting and how it lead her into comedy. We speak more then about the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the kinds of things she has learned after having four successful solo shows there. And the depth to which one must go to promote shows there.
http://thecomedycast.com/ Hello and welcome back to The Comedy Cast; today you’ll be hearing from English stand-up comedian and satirist, Tiernan Douieb. We kick off the interview with me telling Tiernan about how I sacrificed a Pavlova date to be with him and then we get into where he gets his awesome name from. Usually with the podcasts I tend to wait until towards the end before speaking about guests' podcasts, but with Tiernan I wanted to get straight into it. Tiernan has a really mighty podcast every week called Partly Political Broadcast. If you have any interested in British politics at all you should subscribe to it because it's pure mighty. He mixes satire, gags and serious topics absolutely brilliantly so it was really mighty to speak to him about the podcast. Of course, because the podcast is politically motivated we delved into British politics. We bitch about Theresa May and the Conservatives, Brexit, and the upcoming Scottish dilemma. The lies on a 'massive effing bus' gets a mention as well and Tiernan reveals exactly why he started his podcast and how it helps him to make sense of what's happening in UK politics at the minute. We talk about why voter apathy is large among young people and some of the solutions to it. Tiernan brings up Rexit, it involves robots! We chat about Tiernan's first gig, how he was so excited that he couldn't sleep even after it, he also tells me one of the jokes he did that night. We speak about him doing a comedy course and how when doing it he knew that comedy was what he wanted to do in his life. We also discuss the thin line between exaggeration and bullshit and how the best comedians thread that line.

http://thecomedycast.com/ Joseph Cullen is more than multi-talented, he's a actor, a stand-up comedian and has a pretty cool day job; working with Over The Limit Theatre as Artistic Director. He's a self-depreciating kind of lad, as you'll hear, but he's certainly got his head screwed on properly and greatness beckons I hope. We started off talking about how with a name like Joe Cullen he could be my next door neighbour back in Wexford and how he was almost Augustus Bojangles. I ran into Joe on Twitter where he's been promoting his stand-up show You Having Olaf? But first I wanted to ask him about his 2016 show Gentle Tim, a show about Timothy Threadwell, a name familiar to anyone that has seen Werner Herzog's documentary Grizzly Man. We spoke then about You Having Olaf? Joe stand-up show about his time spent working as a children's entertainer and the long lasting trauma it caused him to this very day. We have a wee chat too about how children are just pretty terrible overall and not worth the bother, Joe even predicts that his godson will one day grow up to be a serial killer, so you've been told. We changed subject then and spoke about Joe's job as Artistic Director with Over The Limit Theatre and what that involves, we spoke about the shows they're putting on at the ongoing Vault 2017 Festival in London; The Witches' Mark, Siren and The Lock In. We spoke too about the processes involved of going from script approval to production. Joe's also an actor and I was dying to ask him about working with the fantastic Les Enfants Terrible on their previous stage hit The Game's Afoot, an immersive who-done-it, Cluedo type of production. Finally then we spoke about Joe comedic influences growing up and what advice he'd give to people thinking of getting into comedy.
Today you'll be hearing from British stand-up comedian Meryl O'Rourke. Meryl has been doing stand-up for about ten years now and has found a loyal following on the scene thanks to her particular style of humour and frank delivery. It would be unfair to call her 'one of the lads' but she'd make all your male friends blush with her anecdotes and two seconds later have them howling with laughter. We spoke about her love of comedy, how it was passed onto her by her mother (bringing her to see Morecambe & Wise at the age of 5) and her love of comedy writing too. Comedy wasn't the only thing she inherited from her mother; indeed a few years ago she won over many an audience and critic with her successful show "Bad Mother." A show that dealt hilariously with the anxiety she'd inherited and how she came to terms with it when she started her own family.
What do you do if you’re a stand-up comedian who has just lost his day job and your artist girlfriend has also lost hers? You move to France of course! Today we interview Tommy Barnes who with his girlfriend left London 5 months ago to get away from the rat race and stress of big city life. They moved to the Auvergne region of France and have embraced the contrast between their old London existence and what small village French life has to offer. They have even dispelled a few myths about the French way of life that the English have stereotyped the French as having. To many their existence may seem precarious – Tommy has spent his days writing a book he hopes to publish while Rose looks to sell her sculptures, and they currently are surviving on redundancy money. Despite this however they are happier, healthier, and with their recent commitment to buy a house in the Loire valley, they are now determined to make France their long term home We caught up with Tommy one beautiful summer’s morning. You can follow his hilarious stories about life in the French countryside at http://thomasprinceoffrance.blogspot.com.au What I learned from Tommy’s interview: The French are far more welcoming to the English than many English might think! They have both been welcomed by the locals and made to feel part of the community. The community spirit in French villages is a lot stronger than Tommy feels the equivalent would be in England Buying property in France doesn’t have to be complicated. Tommy purchased his house from a fellow British expat which helped make the process easier. Taking your time before committing to purchasing is also a good idea. Tommy rented in a couple of places and actually finished up buying a place he had previously rented. Not having a means of income isn’t necessarily a deterrent to making the leap. In Tommy’s case he’d lost his job and moving countries would have seemed highly unlikely in those circumstances but they have both used their redundancies to sustain themselves while effectively reducing their living costs by moving to rural France over the more expensive lifestyle of staying in London.
