BioOsteosarcoma Webinar Series: Brian Ladle, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Oncology and Pediatrics at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, joins us on OsteoBites to discuss deciphering the impact of STING agonists on the tumor microenvironment in osteosarcoma. We have learned that more engagement of the immune system and osteosarcoma results in better outcomes - even when patients are given standard chemotherapy. We have found that drugs that activate the STING pathway in osteosarcoma tumors result in greater immune cell invasion into the tumors. This corresponds with improved outcomes when combined with chemotherapy and other immunotherapies. Dr. Ladle will discuss these findings and what steps we are taking to bring this closer to clinical trials for osteosarcoma patients.Dr. Brian Ladle is a pediatric oncologist, sarcoma specialist, and immunotherapy researcher at Johns Hopkins University. His research centers around the goal of generating potent immune responses against pediatric sarcoma tumors - especially osteosarcoma. Ongoing projects encompass preclinical work using osteosarcoma mouse models and osteosarcoma clinical trials in both dogs and humans. He really believes immunotherapy approaches can be effective against osteosarcoma and will become a key piece to "Make It Better" for osteosarcoma patients.

On this week's Tipping Point interview Paul sits down with Tego Venturi, a realtor in Albuquerque. He recently won realtor of the year from the National Association of Realtors. Tego and Paul discuss the local housing market and current conditions in the metro area and then move on to talk about housing legislation and whether the bills being passed (or considered in Santa Fe) would address the housing "crisis." Is the Legislature moving in the right direction or do they need to consider other approaches to addressing housing in New Mexico? Paul and Tego may not agree 100% but this is an informational conversation about an important part of New Mexico's economy.

I recently began to realize there are some parallels between podcast editing and life, in that they both require embracing messiness. Whether it's editing episodes for clarity, or juggling unexpected house guests and toddler tantrums, I challenge you (and myself) to consider how our own imperfections make us better, more human, and ultimately, more capable of love and connection. This isn't about achieving flawlessness; it's about understanding how our imperfections are essential to our growth, our relationships, and the lives we're creating. Evaluations can be challenging. They're judgmental in nature and often ineffective. This week Randall emphasizes the importance of understanding organizational culture and using evaluations as a professional development tool rather than a mere judgment. We also talk about why leaders should avoid surprises and ensure evaluations are consistent with ongoing feedback, while employees should see evaluations as an opportunity for growth. The goal is to make the evaluation process less stressful and more constructive for everyone involved.

Former head of the FBI's intelligence branch Kevin Brock has sadly passed away at the age of 69 after a years-long battle with cancer. Kevin helped reshape the bureau's intelligence gathering capabilities in the aftermath of the September 11th terror attacks and more recently sounded the alarm about America's weakened border security. Brock was a frequent guest on John Solomon Reports and "Just The News, No Noise" hosted by John Solomon and Amanda Head and was widely respected among current and retired agents. Hey Friend! As I get older, I think about what I can do to help others as that is very rewarding for me. I love being a nurse for this reason and even though I only pick up a few shifts around my family's schedule. Its in my nature to give great care just as I would want my family to be treated, but I also like building my own dream and not someone elses for the freedom it provides which includes helping others as well. Are you loving your life right now? I remember being exhausted with all the running we did with kids and working all the time that I had to reevaluate why we were choosing that crazy whirlwind of everyday life and we made some changes. If you want to make changes in your life, you have to know what changes you want to make and then you need to break that goal down and start to take steps toward that bigger dream so you aren't in the same spot the next year-you have to take action. Many times this will start with getting out of debt so that you have options. I would start with selling things you don't need or anything you have payments on. Debt will control your life, so when you get rid of it, it will free up your life to be able to live your dreams and as we talked about in an earlier episode, you will also be more content. Remember, how you spend your time is how you spend your life. Don't let it slip away. In order to love the life you live, you will want to remember that no life is perfect, so even though some things may look perfect for others, you are just seeing the highlights, so do not compare your life to other people's life. Next, you need to be true to your values~your best life is going to be lived by aligning your life with what is most important to you. Invest your time, energy, and money into those most important values and make sure you set boundaries for those items that do not fall in there. I believe that in order to move from where you are at to where you want to be, you need to invest in your growth. You will want to read books or listen to them, learn from others, investing in personal development and courses are so important for you to move forward to transform your life. But remember that you need to put into practice what you are learning. I don't want you to stay stuck, so take a chance. You may be afraid to make some changes, but sometimes you have to go through uncomfortable things for them to eventually be comfortable and become who you are truly meant to be. Don't let fear stop you from your dreams friend and certainly don't let other people discourage you. If I would have let the naysayers influence my dreams, I would not be where I am today. Your dream is not the same as anybody elses and God has given you different gifts that He wants you to use. Do not let security keep you stuck, take a step of faith as God leads you. I hope you can take this seriously to move your life in the direction you want to go little by little, step by step. One-on-one meetings are the cornerstone of manager-employee relationships. For managers, they're an opportunity to teach, coach, and mentor. For employees, they're a chance to grow and develop. But given how important these meetings are, how well are we using them? How effectively do we plan and run them? Bottom line - are they an afterthought or a priority? These are just some of the questions, I asked meeting expert Steven Rogelberg, author of the book, Glad We Met: The Art and Science of 1:1 Meetings. In response, Steve not only described what the most effective one-on-one meetings look like, but he also explained how to design and lead them. I left the interview with lots of practical tips and tools. Episode Links This is the Most Important Meeting You'll Have. Here's How to Make It Better. Meetings Can Really Suck.
