Studio Soundtracks takes listeners behind the scenes of how music is crafted for film and television by hearing directly from composers, songwriters and music professionals in the Entertainment Industry. Listen to inspiring conversations about composition and hear works from Emmy, Grammy, and Oscar-winning film scores on the show. BRENDAN ANGELIDES Brendan Angelides' (formerly known as ESKMO) arrival at the world of scoring in 2016 was exactly the opportunity he had been hoping for. It felt conducive to the narrative process and sonic aesthetic he had developed in his work as a recording artist, being deeply in the mindset of The Echo Society, a collaborative of local Los Angeles artists and composer, at the time and recognizing the potential of his sound within a visual framework. Since 2016, Angelides has written the soundtracks for seven seasons of Billions, as well as Echoes (Netflix), Super Pumped (Showtime) and the 2021 film Naked Singularity. While scoring the four seasons of Netflix's celebrated 13 Reasons Why, he collaborated with Selena Gomez to produce a cover of Yazoo's “Only You.” In 2023, Angelides' embrace of new creative territories expands again as he presents his first video game score with Assassin's Creed: Mirage. Bringing his electronic artistry to the Ubisoft adventure set in ninth century Baghdad, Angelides worked with musicians connected with the region and culture including the New York Arabic Orchestra and Tunisian artist Emel Mathlouthi, whose viral protest song during the Arab Spring inspired the theme for Mirage's courageous female lead. The year also marks Angelides' most ambitious project with The Echo Society to date. Their soundtrack to director Darren Aronofsky's forthcoming film ‘Postcard from Earth' was showcased at the world's largest 4K screen at the Sphere, Las Vegas, across 160,000 speakers and 1600 subwoofers. NIMA FAKHRARA Iranian-born composer Nima Fakhrara has honed his craft for nearly twenty years by scoring more than 100 feature films, multiple AAA game franchises and international television shows, as well as crafting commercial music for boutique brands. This massive body of work led acclaimed director Anna Forester to tap Nima as composer for Bad Robot's latest feature film LOU (2022, starring Academy Award winner Allison Janney). His unique blend of East-meets-West and command of striking, sonic textures and timbres led gaming legend David Cage to select him to compose the music for 2018's wildly successful and critically acclaimed DETROIT BECOME HUMAN and the announcement to the Star Wars video game franchise ECLIPSE. Other gaming credits include WARHAMMER: SPACE MARINES 2, RESIDENT EVIL: REVELATIONS 2 and 1979 REVOLUTION. While his music is found all over the American media landscape, the composer's musical journey started back in Tehran at age five. Young Nima lugged his santur up six flights of stairs for each lesson with a master instructor. This early education imbued Fakhrara with a firm grasp of Persian classical music, an unyielding discipline, and a knack for complex rhythms. After moving to the Washington DC area at age 12, Fakhrara later earned a degree in composition from California State University while simultaneously studying ethnomusicology and Music Anthropology. Get the timestamped tracklists of all my mixes, exclusive ones and download them in high quality by becoming a patron at patreon.com/costals. That's the best way to support me and help me make more mixtapes and more music. I got the goal of reaching $600/month with Patreon as soon as possible. This will allow me to regain all my time, rent a 1-bedroom and pay my little monthly expenses. And just make music. I just launched a new tier at $15/month which offers access to a weekly Q&A/video hang out, the direct download of the daily songs I create, my loops collection taken from my own creations and educational material to learn how to make music the way I do, and become a prolific creator. Who knows, maybe make music your life as well? Or just enjoy a fulfilling hobby. This is also a door to regular collaborations with me, if you ever fancy.Episode link: costals.net/app/ninjatune2This one was originally published in 2019 on Mixcloud and Soundcloud.Salutations de Bristol, UK.

Inspired by the images of the ISS this week, we start off with the warmth of brand new Eskmo, then hear the colder more precise beats of Volor Flex, aAirial, the technical glitches and melodies of Access To Arasaka and Zainetica. Brian Eno & David Byrne warms things up, then we hear some nice roots from Yabby You, Vivian Jackson, and LKJ. Michael Rose, DJ Vadim and DJ Madd get us in the groove, then Little People carry us into the experimental beats and rhymes of Antipop Consortium. Lydia Ainsworth finishes off the show this week. We've been holding on to this one for a while, yet to be honest, we're kind of glad that we have. With a month off in the summer, we're happy to spring back to life with a mix from the supremely talented Kush Arora in the shape of Wild City #061. A San Francisco based producer, DJ and purveyor of cultural bass music, Arora has extensive music knowledge. Right through from metal, punk, goth, bhangra and industrial to what he's now more known for; tropical and global bass music. We're talking all shades of dub, garage, dancehall, funky and Indo-Caribbean influences, which form his unique and self-titled “dread bass” sound that has found him compared to producers such as The Bug, Stereotyp and even Adrian Sherwood. A member of Surya Dub, a San Francisco based clubnight, awarded Best Club Night by SF Weekly for two consecutive years (2007- 2008), Kush consistently finds himself on the road representing the Surya Dub Crew and opening for the likes of Flying Lotus, The Bug, Bassnectar and Thievery Corporation. His tracks have also been remixed by the likes of Eskmo and Rogue State as well as catching the attention of Pitchfork Mag, who referred to him as a “laptop musician extraordinaire”. Need we say more? Wild City #061 steams through a solid 30 tracks in under 60 minutes. I think it's fair to say that we knew we were on to something when we saw the tracklist. Excitingly he's crafted a mix that not only focuses on some of his own work, but also contains unreleased dubs. Listening to the mix, there's a remarkable consistency to Arora's production, an off-kilter rhythmic sensibility that ties the various tracks together. At the same time, there's diversity to it all. He's even been kind enough to make a two part mix, "for the club" and as he puts it "fuck time and slow wine". He's proved here that he's more than capable of assembling a brooding cut as much as he is a hands-in-the-air anthem or even songs to have raunchy, turnt up sex to. In short, the guy is talented. But we'll leave that for you to figure out. Enjoy! "Thought I'd round up some of the great new sounds I've been feeling, and after looking at the site, maybe some things that maybe haven't been featured to give you something fresh. The first half hits it "From The Club"; From Azonto and Kuduro to Angola, Ghana and Nigeria, all the way to Bay Area house music and some of my favorite tunes from London, plus a few bits from my catalogue with Zuzuka Poderosa (Brazil) and Silver Bullit (London, Ghana). This should have you doing the fucking 6:30. The Second half continues the sexual journey with a special remix I did of Gyptian's "Slow Wine" that will be dropping later this year on VP records. It explores the Zouk Bass and Tarraxinha phenomenon from Angola and surrounding areas, plus a few dancehall joints I seem to keep coming back to." - Kush Arora For a tracklist and further info, head over here: http://www.thewildcity.com/EN/music.xhtml/article/4428-wild-city-061-kush-arora

Welder is a new addition to the West Coast. While he is also known for works released as Eskmo, which focus on a heavy, dance floor oriented sound, Welder represents his more melodic and subtle downtempo side. His debut LP Vines and Stream was released by Cyberset (SF) at the end of 2006 and has since been working in the studio on original works as well as collaborations with Rena Jones, Brian Seed, and Minus Music (featuring Knick from Evol Intent) to name a few. A couple reviews from Vines and Stream... "Vines frequently delights through its heavily melodic instrumentals hosting considerable atmospheres and wide sound palettes... oozing with melodic content." - Barcode Magazine "Request it, listen to it, then buy it - you won't be disappointed." - Lounging Sound For the memekast Welder has put together a set of 6 songs from the album and has added live keys, cuts and vocal tweeking to the mix. memekast mk018 » 15 May 2007 » Welder isle of skye purple and orange distance ants are small find you here the heart Upcoming Events: Jun 17 2007 — Emerge N See — Oregon Jun 23 2007 — Revolution — California Jun 30 2007 — Raindance — California Jul 13 2007 — Family Moons 10 Year — Colorado Jul 21 2007 — Priceless — California Sep 20 2007 — Symbiosis — California memekast_mk018_200705.mp3
