Sylvester Chisom is a serial entrepreneur from St. Louis, Missouri (University City to be exact). The first generation in his family to attend college, Sylvester graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Biology. While completing the coursework needed to pursue a career in dentistry, he saw immediate promise in his entrepreneurial ventures - including throwing massive parties with famous DJs and starting a car wash business with his best friend. At their college graduation, he and his business partner made a deal that they would commit to their business for a year to see if they would be successful. If they weren't, they agreed that they would continue with their graduate education. Years later, Sylvester has grown his first startup Showroom Shine to multiple locations and Fortune 500 clients including Amazon as well as the Ferguson Police Department and Post Office. His company has also received national recognition as the winners of the Steve Harvey Neighborhood Award 4 years in a row. His ideas and companies have been featured in Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, and INC Magazine among others. Some key points Sylvester shares: 1. Try to find an entry point into any career you're interested in as early as possible. Research careers online, seek volunteer opportunities, conduct informational interviews over the phone or invite people to coffee to learn more about their careers. 2. Every success or failure that you have creates another opportunity. You must take a step back to identify how you can leverage the opportunity you have into another one. If an opportunity doesn't go well, take the time to identify the lesson in the experience. 3. Never let anyone outwork you. As you work, be sure to do focused work as the compound effect works in your favor. 4. Always add value. Always leave any space you enter better than how you found it. 5. Learn how to appreciate delayed gratification. Because greatness takes some time to achieve, people oftentimes quit too early.  Connect with Sylvester! Women's History Month is drawing to a close and as if on cue, we saw another example of why paying attention to gender matters, and how for the most part we still don't do it. In their blistering review of the Ferguson Police Department, Justice Department investigators reported that racism was pervasive, along with a longstanding practice of ignoring allegations of racial discrimination and abuse. The statistic that got the most gasps was that in a city where two thirds of residents are African American, just four out of Ferguson's 54 commissioned officers are black. Lack of diversity dominated the coverage and rightly so, but investigators also found evidence of another problem: rampant sexual harassment and gender bias. Ferguson, whose population is 58.6 percent female has four female officers too. That detail shows up in a footnote. As the Washington Post which caught the foot note reported, stark gender imbalance is the norm for the overwhelming majority of local police forces, even though twenty years of research shows that women police officers tend to rely less on physical force and far less frequently get involved in misconduct lawsuits. Way back in 2000, a study released by the Feminist Majority Foundation and the National Center for Women & Policing documented a huge gender gap in police brutality lawsuits, and it's costly. In the 1990s, reported the study, the City of Los Angeles paid out $63.4 million in lawsuits involving male officers for use of excessive force, sexual assault, and domestic violence. By contrast, LA coughed up just $2.8 million for female officers for use of excessive force, and not one female officer was named as a defendant in a sexual assault or domestic violence lawsuits. As cases of abuse continue, racial discrimination will stay in the headlines as it should, but police patriarchy deserves more than a footnote. Will a diverse police department solve all our problems – surely not – but if we're going to address diversity, let's remember there's more than one sort. The evidence suggests that shrinking that gender gap just might save both lives and money. We'll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We'll examine news reports from the past seven days and - hopefully - promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS The week commenced with the White occupation of Selma for the 50 year anniversary of Bloody Sunday. The rhetoric of progress and improvement rained down like "nigger-knockers" busting Congressman John Lewis' skull in 1965. Before the party favors and litter from the Edmund Pettus bridge could be cleared, the internet was clogged with footage of the University of Oklahoma's chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon chanting about lynching niggers. Two of the White ringleaders were expelled, and the fraternity has been evicted from the Norman campus; the White perpetrators initially apologized, but have since initiated a law suit opposing their banishment. Speaking of White upstarts, two members of the Selma spectacle - Senators Rob Portman and Jeff Sessions - were among the 47 senators who authored a letter to Iran proclaiming that any negotiations with the nigger in the White house can be promptly nullified when Whites officially reclaim the Oval Office. And Ferguson recaptured the spotlight with the resignations of Chief Tom Jackson and Judge Ronald J. Brockmeyer. The day of Jackson's exit, two officers were shot in front of the Ferguson Police Department. Their injuries were not fatal, no suspects have been arrested, and President Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder, Rev. Al Sharpton and rap music have been blamed. We'll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. Jimmie Lee Jackson and black Alabamans were once again stomped as Whites smeared images Rev. James Reeb and Viola Liuzzo to demand that there are "good Whites." And White Victims, which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promoted while pleading for defense of Israeli sanctuary and discrediting President Obama's foreign policy. ...Dammit, past me, stop breathing on the mic. "For the benefit of anyone listening to this long after the fact, or anybody actively avoiding news sources because they like having a positive outlook on life and wish to preserve it, I will now go over all the facts of the shooting of Michael Brown. On August 9, 2014, an 18-year-old man Michael Brown was fatally shot by Darren Wilson, a Ferguson Police Department officer. As far as I can tell, these are the only facts anybody agrees on. There has been a great deal of outrage, not only in media but in the streets of Ferguson, Missouri where this took place, from people who feel the shooting was a complete travesty and the height of injustice. Others argue that based on the evidence, the officer was justified in shooting his assailant, and that the outrage stems from people trying to make the whole case about race. The unarmed suspect in this case was black, and the officer was white. Thus, the powder keg was lit. Months later, and now over a week removed from the grand jury decision not to indict Officer Wilson, I’m still not in possession of all the facts of this case. I don’t care to go searching for them either. Rather than hoping in vain to piece together a clearer picture of the reality of that night, and rather than spouting any more uninformed nonsense about this case, I want to try to shed some light on the underlying complex social issues at play here. That said, I did see fit to spout uninformed nonsense about this case way back in August when the events were still pretty recent and genuine facts were lacking, and the only news source I saw fit to trust on the matter was one mister John Oliver. Recently, I’ve written a mostly serious commentary that I think cuts to the heart of the matter, but before I share that here, I thought this old rant would be worth sharing again for the added context it provides, both in terms of the case itself and my personal feelings on it, which have continued to evolve since this rant was recorded. This isn’t going to be nearly as serious as the subject matter likely calls for, but in cases like this I kind of need to laugh sometimes to keep from crying. So, if you’ll forgive my awful sense of humor and poor timing, here is my original rant about the terrible events this past summer in Ferguson, Missouri."   (Backing music for this episode was created by the wonderfully luminescent, splendidly fragrant, and superbly coniferous Danny Baranowsky, originally part of the soundtrack to The Binding of Isaac. The CAA says that certification will likely be required for operators of high risk UAVs. I'm chomping at the bit today! Ladies and gentlemen, I cannot wait to get the show started because we are jam packed full of news today. One of the best things that happened was the Royals won 7 - 2 over the Giants last night. Complete and total turnaround from game one! We looked sharp. How about that pitching? We’ve got some talent and it was fun to watch.Moving on, let’s lead off with some ebola news. Family: Amber Vinson free of Ebola virushttp://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/10/22/ebola-amber-vinson-recovery/17742417/The family also said that the 29-year-old nurse, who contracted the virus from Liberian Thomas Eric Duncan, was regaining strength and that her spirits were high."We are overjoyed to announce that, as of yesterday evening, officials at Emory University Hospital and the Centers for Disease Control (and Prevention) are no longer able to detect virus in her body," the family said in a statement hours after Vinson spoke with her mother, Debra Berry.Dallas nurse, Amber Vinson, free of ebola. Now, keep in mind, this means nothing at all. The CDC is saying that 900,000 people will die of ebola. We have an epidemic, according to the CDC and the news media. Officially, we have gone from 3 ebola patients to 1 ebola patient. And, just released, 43 potential ebola patients now ebola free.It seems to be things are fairly under control. Unfortunately, that can’t be the case because that’s not what the CDC says. According to the CDC, it’s a death sentence. What’s funny is that they don’t say whether it’s an airborne virus or not. What they say is, we can’t confirm that it’s not. So, naturally, that’s just designed to strike fear into the hearts of man. It’s so not an issue and it’s just frustrating to me that we keep on having to have this discussion. This is designed to do nothing more than to create fear and panic in you. And we’re not going to do that. If no one else will do it, then we will be the voice of reason.Us and Shepard Smith. -----If you would like to discuss anything with John about the show, email him at Jason@TheLiveShow.TVYou can also use the hashtag #TheLiveShowFollow Jason on Twitter: www.Twitter.com/TheLiveShowTVFollow Us on Facebook: www.Facebook.com/TheLiveShowTV-----If you are really enjoying the show and would like to support what we're doing at The Live Show, please consider donating to our cause. Further, an autopsy report suggested that there was a “significant altercation at the car.”The alleged account of Ferguson officer Darren Wilson, who fatally shot Brown, was also included in Tuesday night’s explosive reports. If you remember several weeks ago, I talked about the rioters destroying their own town, burning down their own convenience stores. Well, there’s new evidence out today that proves that Michael Brown had THC in his system. His urine and his blood showed THC in his system, which would explain a lot because one of the things that I’ve never understood about the the shooting and what happened was what would cause a kid if he sees the cops, what would possess him to run to the cop, punch him in the face while he’s in his vehicle, reach in, try to grab his gun and then ultimately get shot. And then what would possess him after being shot to then turn around and continue to confront the officer.Well, now we find out. There’s a reasonable explanation for it.It’s because he was hopped up on THC.On Wednesday, protesters went into the police station to demand justice saying “if we don’t get justice here, we’ll get it on the streets.” I think that somebody needs to explain what justice means because apparently justice to the protesters is convicting a man of murder with absolutely no substantiating evidence whatsoever. Apparently, justice to these individuals is ignoring all of the facts and looking only at the individual’s race. And making your determination as to their guilt or innocence based on the color of their skin. Now, in my mind, that’s racism. But it turns out that they in fact are storming police stations now threatening that if they don’t get justice, which i’m assuming is a conviction of Officer Wilson where he goes to prison regardless of the evidence of the crime, that that’s the only thing that will suffice in terms of justice. That that in their mind is justice. And I say, what kind of world are we living in?Again, the protesters that are out there, this has nothing to do about justice for Michael Brown. It’s important that you understand that. None of this has to do with justice for Michael Brown. What they may have is they may have complaints about the Ferguson Police Department and those complaints may be justified. But this is not the case that you use to justify and to let out your anger because this case has absolutely nothing to do with justice. What I’m saying is, there may be merit to the argument. But they’re pinning, they’re hitching their wagon to a lost cause. Michael Brown died because he was a criminal who apparently was on drugs and who had just got done robbing a convenience store. Then he attacked in officer and was shot dead. If you’re a protester, this is not who you’ll want to be hitching your wagon to. This is not the one you want to make your stand on.There is police corruption all throughout the United States. Go find that. Go find the real corruption. Go find the real Black kid who was gunned down for no good reason. I just saw an article, police raided the wrong house and a 7 year old kid was murdered by the police after they raided the wrong house, shot dead in their bed. This happens every day. Go protest that. Don’t protest this. This makes you look bad. Canada's parliament attacked, soldier fatally shot nearbyhttp://www.reuters.com/article/2014/10/22/us-canada-attacks-shooting-idUSKCN0IB1PY20141022Canadian officials identify shooter in brazen attack on Parliament complexhttp://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/10/22/soldier-shot-at-war-memorial-near-canadian-parliament/There was a mass shooting at Canada’s parliament and before this shooting occurred, there was a shooting at a memorial where two soldiers shot, one was wounded and one was killed. Currently, the top rate of 39.6 percent is paid on income above $406,750 for individuals and $457,600 for couples. These 'economists' are wrong on so many levels.I explain why and how in every single one of their points because this is the type of study that liberals and progressives will use to arm themselves. And you've got to be prepared and understand what the facts are about economics because these two researchers do not understand economics. I don't care if they call themselves economists. They have not a clue what they're talking about. Make sure you watch or listen to Jason's complete analysis.Support the show.
