Marc Cox joins the show to give his assessment of the School Board Elections that took place across Missouri yesterday. Cox shares what he believes to be the best part of the elections, even if the results weren't all that he hoped for.
Over the last two years, parents of public school kids across America woke up and had the time to pull back the curtain and actually see what was going on in their kids' classrooms. Many of these parents knew something was 'off'. The more they dug into these issues, the uglier things were. Sleeping parents finally decided to get involved, took action, demanded accountability from their local schools and their boards and have now stepped up to bring conservative, common-sense values back to public education. Daryn and Randy interview Jessica Clark, a no nonsense conservative school-board candidate in the Rockwood School District in Eureka Missouri bring the heat. For the last year, we have been surrounded by debates on Critical Race Theory spurred by the Right's organized, widespread campaign to stifle anti-racist education. For all of this debate, though, we hardly ever get to hear from the teachers, administrators, and students who are the subjects of these vicious attacks, and who are risking it all in defense of educational integrity and truth-telling. On today's episode, Kimberlé presents a conversation from the African American Policy Forum's Under the Blacklight series, where an incredible line up of brave educators, students, advocates and activists gathered to share their stories from the frontlines. Moderated by Sumi Cho, the roundtable conversation shines a spotlight on the experiences of educators who have been victimized by the draconian legislative campaigns to prevent K-12 teachings about the realities of race and gender based oppression in the United States, past and present. On this episode, Paul is joined by Dr Art McCoy, a spiritual and religious leader and educator who has been working in the education sector since he was 18, making him the youngest certified mathematics teacher in Missouri and has gone on to be the youngest in all his roles until he became the youngest, and first black Superintendent of Schools there. He now works in mental health and diversity within his community and is here to talk about unity and the true you. KEY TAKEAWAYS I help people unlock the aspects of their potential that's within them to then express it to the world. There are no coincidences in life, there's only one big difference between illness and wellness: When we remove the ‘I' from illness and replace it with ‘we' we remove illness and replace it with wellness. Internal unity is D.R.I.V.E. – Drive, Relationships (Rapport), Insight, Volition, Engagement. External unity is what love looks like in public. That's the ‘U' in unity. That helps communities become vibrant. We all are given problems in life, and they can sometimes be our greatest gifts because they build our character and forge who we are. And, if we can master that, we can flourish.
