Portland’s Lloyd Center is scheduled to close Aug. 8 after more than 65 years in business. The current owner, Urban Renaissance Group, plans to demolish the mall to make way for housing, businesses and a new music venue. Groups such as Save Lloyd Center Mall and the Save Lloyd Ice Coalition are holding out hope that a city hearing in June could prevent the mall’s closure, but it seems likely that the Lloyd Center is in its final days. After its last anchor stores shuttered in 2021, the mall’s low rents and large usable space attracted a wide array of community groups and independent retailers. In its last incarnation, the mall became a hub for the kind of quirky community that Portland prides itself on. We’ll listen back to three conversations that capture that recent era: Jason Leivian is the owner of Floating World Comics. We spoke with him in 2022, shortly after he relocated his store from Old Town to the Lloyd Center. In 2023, we talked about a production of Samuel Beckett’s “Happy Days” that was staged in a former Victoria’s Secret store in the Lloyd Center. It was put on by the Northwest Classical Theatre Collaborative, which aims to bring theater to nontraditional spaces. We were joined by director Patrick Walsh, the collaborative’s executive artistic director, and Portland actress Diane Kondrat, who starred as “Winnie” in the play. Finally, Krista Catwood joined us last summer to talk about the Food Court 5000. That’s a 1980s-themed mall walk that Catwood leads every Sunday morning in the Lloyd Center.
Dawn's got the latest on Ryan Lochte's now viral video. Food Court has a couple stories about nappuccinos and the best way to make a grilled cheese. Dawn is excited about a new monster LEGO kit celebrating the world of Lord of the Rings. Are Meghan and Harry planning to move back to the UK? There's a new Olivia Newton-John book and it's telling some scandalous secrets. Food Court has a story about a smart spoon. They review menu options and calories, noting the 750-calorie chocolate cookie, 580-calorie cold brew mocha freeze, 840-calorie chicken bake, 850-calorie hot dog and soda, and a rotisserie chicken salad listed up to 840 calories, concluding the best options may be water or diet soda and advising people to eat before visiting. They also discuss Costco bidets (washlets), including features like heated seats and a built-in blow dryer. The Lloyd Center mall is about to go through some big changes this year, with demolition already partially underway. But the Food Court 5000 retro mall walking group is still hoping the building will be saved. They gather every weekend to strut the endless hallways of the mall with neon leggings and big hair — but their future is uncertain without the Lloyd Center. Today on City Cast Portland, host Claudia Meza is talking with Krista Catwood, local performance artist and founder and host of the Food Court 5000. She's here to share why she wants to save the Lloyd Center and how to get in on the next mall walk. Discussed in Today's Episode: Food Court 5000 Eastside Kettlebell Class SaveLloyd In this episode, we incorrectly attribute the incoming music venue at the Lloyd Center to Live Nation. The venue will be run by entertainment companies Monqui Presents and AEG Presents. We regret this error. City Cast Portland is looking for an Audience Development Manager. We're taking our taste buds on a weekend adventure around Walt Disney World — from resort bites and zero-proof sips to full-on feasts and sweet endings. We kicked things off Thursday at Disney's Port Orleans Riverside, grabbing a bite before heading to Disney Springs for an evening of food and fun. Summer House on the Lake's zero-proof cocktails, like the Pineapple Kick and Sparkling Rosé Lemonade, are perfect examples of how non-alcoholic doesn't have to mean boring, although this trip the pizza did not quite hit the mark. From there, we couldn't resist a stop at Gideon's Bakehouse, where we tried seasonal sweets like the Bride of Frankenstein Cookie, the Banana Bread Chocolate Chip Cookie, and the PB & Jelly Cake.Friday's lineup was a true flavor rollercoaster. Between lemon pepper chicken tenders at Magic Kingdom and a trip off-property for Benihana's, our taste buds covered just about every texture and temperature possible. Saturday brought one of our favorite types of Disney days — eat, explore, repeat. From Karamel Küche's Caramel Gingerbread Cookie Sandwich to the hearty rolls at Ale & Compass, smoky brisket from The Polite Pig, and Indian-inspired flavors at EET by Maneet Chauhan, the variety was endless. Sunday wrapped things up on the sweetest note possible — cookies from Summer House, a relaxed meal at The Boathouse, and a festive finale at Scat Cat's Café with Ghoulish Beignets and an Agave Garden mocktail that proved Disney's zero-proof game is getting strong. From sugar highs to savory standouts, this weekend reminded us why Disney dining never gets old — there's always something new to taste, try, and talk about on Main Street Magic.

We're heading down to the bayou for a live, on-site dining review of Riverside Mill Food Court at Disney's Port Orleans – Riverside Resort. This charming quick-service spot is one of our favorite places to slow down, grab a hearty meal, and soak in that peaceful Southern charm — and this time, we brought Stitch along for the adventure! We recorded right from the resort while waiting for our room to be ready, surrounded by the sounds of the Sassagoula River and the steady buzz of resort life. It was the perfect setting for an impromptu food review. We started with the Shrimp and Grits, a classic that hits all the right notes. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, the ham added a smoky punch, and the chardonnay gravy sauce tied everything together beautifully.Next up were the Jerk Barbecue Chicken Strips with Pineapple Salsa, one of several new specialty chicken strip flavors now showing up across Disney property. They were tossed fresh in sauce, topped with pineapple, and served over fries — crispy, tangy, and a little spicy. And of course, we couldn't wrap things up without dessert. The new Hand-Dipped Mickey Premium Bar, coated in white chocolate and topped with salted caramel pearls. If you're staying at Port Orleans Riverside or just stopping by for a bite, Riverside Mill Food Court delivers comfort, flavor, and that unmistakable Disney charm. Join us as we share our favorite bites by the bayou — one delicious dish at a time.

Some ghost stories feel like fragments — brief glimpses of the afterlife that vanish before you can make sense of them. But what happens when the dead not only show themselves, but intervene to protect the living? One caller recalls sitting in a mall food court when a mysterious woman in a white graduation gown appeared — smiling, waving, radiant. She seemed so real that even family members acknowledged her. But the moment a grandmother turned to look, the woman was gone. Was it the spirit of a lost aunt, trying to connect from beyond? Years later, the encounters grew darker. A cold, phantom hand pressed against the back of the caller's neck — through layers of scarf and coat — when no one nearby could have touched them. Then came the most chilling moment: driving to the library with their sister, when she suddenly begged them to pull over. She insisted their deceased grandmother was speaking to her, warning them of danger. Seconds later, sirens filled the air as they watched a horrific accident unfold at the very intersection they had been heading toward. The haunting didn't end there. The car they drove once belonged to their grandmother — and the sister admitted she sometimes heard her voice while riding inside. Was the vehicle itself carrying her presence, or was it something far more personal, a bond of protection between grandmother and grandchildren? From food court apparitions to life-saving spectral warnings, this story shows that some spirits don't just linger — they guide, they guard, and sometimes, they save. #LadyInWhite #HauntedCar #TrueGhostStory #ParanormalWarning #GrandmasGhost #RealHaunting #FoodCourtGhost #GhostlyPremonition #SpiritsProtecting #RealGhostStoriesOnline Love real ghost stories?
