Confidence seems to be the word of the day coming out of Jeddah, as Mark and Filip talk about a more competitive day's running from Red Bull's Max Verstappen, and a crash from Yuki Tsunoda towards the end of the night. There's also more speculation on the World Champion's future, including some surprising comments from Williams team principal James Vowles. There's also a reaction to a downbeat Lewis Hamilton as he continues to struggle with his new Ferrari, Lando Norris "working on himself", Carlos Sainz needing to find the balance of his new Williams, and the battle of the midfield as Pierre Gasly topped FP1 for Alpine. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Two huge F1 debuts are coming up at the Italian Grand Prix this weekend - with Mercedes protege Kimi Antonelli getting his hands on the team's 2024 car and Franco Colapinto making his race debut following a huge shake-up at Williams. The Race F1 Podcast turns first to Antonelli, with Edd Straw joined by Ben Anderson and Scott Mitchell-Malm to discuss how significant an outing this could be for a driver who seems destined for a 2025 Mercedes F1 graduation - and the potential headache Mercedes has on its hands for 2026 if Toto Wolff picks his interest in signing Max Verstappen back up again next year. But it's Williams that has made a huge decision between the Dutch and Italian GPs as it finally lost patience with Logan Sargeant - axing him from its line-up and giving its academy driver Colapinto a shot alongside Alex Albon for the final nine races of the season. That wildcard choice and how impressive Colapinto was on his F1 weekend debut in FP1 at Silverstone earlier this year, the timing of the decision and what that says about how much Williams wanted things to work out with Sargeant, and how his situation ultimately became untenable are all covered. Ferrari's prospects heading to its home race at Monza, McLaren's constructors' championship favourite status, and whether racing will be better in 2026 despite predicted slower laptimes are among a bonus set of questions from The Race Members' Club that are tackled too. That wildcard choice and how impressive Colapinto was on his F1 weekend debut in FP1 at Silverstone earlier this year, the timing of the decision and what that says about how much Williams wanted things to work out with Sargeant, and how his situation ultimately became untenable are all covered.Ferrari's prospects heading to its home race at Monza, McLaren's constructors' championship favourite status, and whether racing will be better in 2026 despite predicted slower laptimes are among a bonus set of questions from The Race Members' Club that are tackled too.Want extra podcast content? This episode is a double - the 2024 Dutch GP review and the 2024 Italian GP preview. Yes, it's a double header, and we're making space in our publishing calendar. But making space for what or for who? Well you'll know soon. Check out the Inside Line F1 Podcast on Thursday this week...and Thursday next week. We're getting one of our headline guests back on the show. How did McLaren win by 22 seconds in Zandvoort? Can they win again in Monza? Why was Red Bull Racing just so slow in Zandvoort? Will the top-4 teams be even closer at Monza? The 2024 Italian GP will see teams choose their lowest downforce setting. Basically, they will shed ALL the drag they can. As much as love Monza for the history, the Tifosi and the iconic corners, the one thing that we HATE it for are DRS trains. At Zandvoort, we saw overtakes across the entire grid. Let's see how Monza copes on the overtaking front...and even more so with DRS trains. At Zandvoort, Ferrari over-delivered on Sunday. They pulled off a masterstroke of a tyre strategy with Charles Leclerc. LEC undercut George Russell and Oscar Piastri during his single stop. Will Ferrari continue to shine in Monza in front of their beloved Tifosi? Also, who will be the most-popular Ferrari driver at Monza - Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz or Lewis Hamilton. Lewis Hamilton's recovery drive from P14 to P8 at Zandvoort was much-heralded, much as George Russell's drop-off from a podium position to P7. After impressing in the races just before the summer break, what happened to Mercedes at Zandvoort? And can they re-join the battle at the front in Monza? Mercedes' BIG high moment will be when Andrea "Kimi" Antonelli jumps into Russell's car during FP1 to make his Formula 1 debut. Will Mercedes also use this opportunity to confirm Formula 1's worst kept secret about their replacement for Hamilton? Lots in store in this hour-long episode, tune in! We want to first thank our partners at Rec Watches for sponsoring this episode. Rec Watches is a Danish independent watch brand specializing in manufacturing timepieces infused with the DNA of motorsport legends. Rec just released the 98T/4, watch that features original parts of Aryton Senna's 1986 Lotus 98T. There is a 20% pre-order discount for our Track Limits community: https://www.recwatches.com/timepieces/98t-4/ All eyes were fixed on Charles Leclerc this weekend, with hopes high that he might finally shatter the curse that has shadowed his career: winning his home race. From the onset of FP1, it was evident he wouldn't allow anything to stand in his way. Setting benchmarks beyond reach, his confidence going into the race was unparalleled. The Monaco Grand Prix, entrenched in the city's legacy, has remained unchanged for a considerable time despite Formula 1 car regulations evolving to produce larger, longer cars. Negotiating the narrow streets has become increasingly challenging, rendering overtaking nearly impossible. This year proved no exception, with fewer than five on-track passes throughout the entire race, compounded by a red flag on Lap 1 prompting all teams to opt for a single set of tires for the duration. Fans are clamouring for Formula 1 to revitalize the Monaco Grand Prix, proposing various changes such as altering the track layout, introducing a DRS section, reverting to classic Grand Prix regulations with different car specifications, or mandating three pit stops. Numerous compelling ideas aim to inject more excitement into an event that has lacked thrills in recent years. Anticipation initially suggested Max would dominate yet again this year. However, with four different race winners already and a tightly contested championship battle, the season has proven to be far more unpredictable and captivating than anticipated. Welcome back to the Track Limits Podcast! Tune in with Henny, Mikey, and Swish as they unpack all the highlights from the recently concluded Imola Grand Prix. Following his breakthrough victory, Lando Norris and the McLaren team shifted their focus from podium placements to clinching more race wins in the future. However, Red Bull's bid to reassert dominance hit a snag with a challenging FP1, FP2, and FP3, casting doubts on their performance. Nevertheless, Max Verstappen defied the odds by securing pole position, outpacing the formidable McLaren duo. Imola, renowned for its historic circuit, initially offered little excitement during Sunday's race until Lando intensified the pressure on Max in the final 15 laps. As Max grappled with tire degradation, Lando's tires surged, resulting in a nail-biting finish with Max crossing the line merely 0.7 seconds ahead. This close call suggests that Red Bull might not enjoy the commanding season many anticipated. Amidst the strain of a lacklustre team weekend, Max added a 24-hour sim racing event to his schedule, dividing his time between track and hotel room simulations with his racing team. Remarkably, they clinched victory with a Verstappen-esque lead of 32 seconds. With the Monaco Grand Prix looming as a consecutive race weekend, anticipation is high. Welcome back to the Track Limits Podcast! Join Henny, Feven, and Mikey as they delve into the Japanese Grand Prix that just wrapped up. The Japan Grand Prix arrived swiftly this time around, echoing the theme from last year: can the Red Bull team bounce back from a challenging previous race? As qualifying concluded, both Red Bulls found themselves comfortably positioned in P1 and P2, and during the race, they demonstrated dominance. Once again, the pressure mounted for Daniel Ricciardo to perform, but his race ended abruptly after just the first two corners due to a collision with Alex Albon. With his lacklustre performance in the first four races, Ricciardo finds himself under scrutiny, given the talent at Red Bull. Meanwhile, Yuki continues to impress earning another point; this time in his home race. Following a tumultuous previous race for Williams, issues persisted as Logan Sargeant crashed the car in FP1 and Alex Albon retired due to the collision with Daniel on lap one. With no spare chassis available, they enter China with two cars and no backups. Carlos continues to enjoy a stellar run, showcasing his abilities to all the team principals. The lingering question remains: how long can he sustain this performance, especially when the car isn't the strongest on the track? We have launched our MERCH STORE with some exclusive items. Just 16 days post-surgery, Carlos made a triumphant return, asserting his status as the top unemployed driver on the grid. His determined demeanour during qualifying indicated a clear mission. While Max's early race DNF facilitated the opportunity for other drivers, the Ferrari displayed formidable strength all weekend, poised for a potential challenge against Red Bull. McLaren seized the opportunity presented by Red Bull and Mercedes' underwhelming performance, securing podium and P4 finishes. Their progress from the previous year on this track is evident, marking a significant achievement for the team. Conversely, Mercedes faces concerns over reliability issues and the unpredictability of their car's performance. Off the track, Williams garnered attention for assigning Albon Logan's car after his FP1 crash, highlighting their limited production efforts by lacking an extra chassis for the weekend.
