Welcome to the daily304 – your window into Wonderful, Almost Heaven, West Virginia. Today is Wednesday, Oct. 25 The federal government taps West Virginia communities to host a regional hydrogen hub. Bluefield seeks youth entrepreneurs for a popup shop on Small Business Saturday. And now you can book tee times online at WV state parks…on today's daily304. #1 – From THE INTELLIGENCER – After more than two years of anticipation, President Joe Biden is set to announce that parts of West Virginia, southeast Ohio, and Pennsylvania will play host to a regional hydrogen hub. Officials said the Appalachian Hydrogen Hub will be one of the largest of the seven proposed hubs, using natural gas to produce hydrogen in a process called blue hydrogen. The project represents a more than $925 million investment. There will be no single location for the Appalachian Hydrogen Hub. Instead, the hub will consist of linked assets – or production nodes — connected between West Virginia, southeast Ohio, and parts of Pennsylvania spread across hundreds of miles. West Virginia locations include Belle, Follansbee, North Point Pleasant, Washington (near Parkersburg) and Fairmont. The Appalachian Hydrogen Hub will create an estimated 18,000 construction jobs and 3,000 permanent jobs. The hub will partner with the Appalachian Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub, which includes more than 40 partnering companies in the natural gas, energy, and manufacturing sectors; West Virginia University and Marshall University; local transit authorities; and the federal National Energy Technology Laboratory. Read more: https://www.theintelligencer.net/news/top-headlines/2023/10/follansbee-hopedale-chosen-as-nodes-for-appalachian-hydrogen-hub/ #2 – From THE DAILY TELEGRAPH – Bluefield officials are hoping to engage area youth in entrepreneurship. As part of that effort the Bluefield Economic Development Authority has announced plans for the Youth and Small Business Saturday Pop Up Shop, an event that will be held this year in conjunction with Small Business Saturday in Bluefield on Saturday, November 25. BEDA Executive Director Jim Spencer said officials are currently gauging the interest of youth and young adults who would like to participate in the youth pop up shop this year. “The goal is to build the next generation of entrepreneurs,” Spencer said. “We've done pretty well with entrepreneurship activities in Bluefield with the food truck and all. So why not work with the younger generation?” Any parent or adult who would like for their child to participate in the Youth and Small Business Saturday Pop Up Shop is asked to contact Spencer by email at jspencer@bluewv.org. No, you haven't entered the Twilight Zone. Yes, I'm the host of Panic with Friends, but in today's special episode, I'm the guest. My producer Knut Jensen has turned the tables and put me in the hot seat. With so many questions about how and why I started Wallstrip, I felt it was time to lay it all out. And hopefully this answers a lot of those questions. We cover the good, the bad, and the funny times building my first internet company – and how those lessons carried over when I started Stocktwits – lessons like finding the right mentor and having domain experience around an idea, and the three key ingredients: product, team and timing. It's a different spin on Panic with Friends where we're going back and telling these types of stories with our best founders, so you'll be seeing more episodes like this in the future. Mike Last developed a system for club's to manage their charitable requests as well as generate leads. It's a system all clubs should look into to save time and be more productive. You'll learn all about it on this episode. About Mike: Mike grew up playing golf in upstate NY. Graduate of Georgia Tech (BEE). He worked as Electrical Engineer for 12 years 1986-1998. Mike founded Last Minute Tee Times (LMTT) in 1998 to help golf courses sell more tee times. LMTT grew to serve 560 golf courses, 610,000 active golfer members, and hundreds of thousands of tee time reservations yearly. Created the nation's largest active community of golfers, and LastMinuteGolfer online community members enjoyed an extensive customer loyalty program. LMTT was purchased by Comcast in October 2008 and it is now promoted as GolfNow. Since 2008, Mike has invested time and money in developing technology to help non-profits raise money. He recognized a sizable opportunity to help non-profits (and equally important) help experience providers (like golf courses and resorts) convert slow periods into meaningful promotion and revenue. Geronimo Solutions bridges the gap between business owners and non-profits. Visit https://www.onespareteetime.com/ to learn more.
Chip is enjoying his 1st Father’s Day as a Dad of two. Chip, Cern, Joe and Dana all took the day off on Friday to go hit golf. Paradise Valley in Fairfield was the course of choice and everyone loved it. Chip booked the tee times with GolfNow app and they saved a ton of money. If you golf it would be worth your while to check that app out. Golf was a blast as usual. Chip jumped off a moving golf cart, whiplashed his head and nearly concussed himself. Cern hit a nasty slice and cracked someone’s tile roof, but only hit a few balls in the drink. Joe and Dana hit pretty well and handily beat the Chip and Cern cart. Cern has some more practice to get on with because he has a legit tourney to prepare for. If you have any good golf courses in NorCal shoot Chip and Cern an email at chipandcernshow@gmail.com.
