Life is full of moments when someone or something doesn’t go as planned. Disappointment sets in, and we battle anger, depression, denial, or even doubt. We often give up on the idea of peace in moments like this. However, Jesus offers us peace even amidst a life overflowing with disappointment. In this message, Pastor Scott Savage concludes our “Missing Peace” series by discussing how we overcome disappointment and experience God’s peace in the middle of the place we never planned to be.

Holi Festival of India

Festival Modeon ..Celebration
Childhood is a time of innocence and freedom. It's a time when you can explore the world without any worries. Unfortunately, as adults, we often forget to be children at heart. We're too busy with our responsibilities and obligations that we forget to enjoy life. Our next poem in the Poetry That Inspires Series is a beautiful reminder this holi to get back in touch with the power of smiles, hugs, and having fun. Happy Holi! Regards, Simerjeet Singh and TeamSJS I Resign from Adulthood To Who it May Concern: I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult. I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8-year-old again. I want to go to McDonald's and think that it's a four-star restaurant. I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make ripples with rocks. I want to think M&Ms are better than money because you can eat them. I want to play dodge ball at recess and paint with watercolors in art. I want to lie under a big oak tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer's day. I want to return to a time when life was simple. When all you knew were colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes, but that didn't bother you, because you didn't know what you didn't know and you didn't care. All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset. I want to think the world is fair. That everyone is honest and good. I want to believe that anything is possible. Somewhere in our youth, we matured and learned too much. There are nuclear weapons, war, prejudice, and abused children. Lies, unhappy marriages, illness, pain, and death. A world where companies poison our water and our soil, and children kill. What happened to the time when we thought that everyone would live forever, because we didn't grasp the concept of death? When the worst thing in the world was if someone took the jump rope from you or picked you last for kickball. I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited by the little things again. I want to return to the days when children played hide-n-seek outside instead of being glued to a television, when video games were as harmless as Pac-Man...instead of spine-ripping, blood-splattering mind numbers like Mortal Combat, and TV still had some shows on that weren't about sex, killing, and lies. I remember being naive and thinking everyone was happy because I was. Afternoons were spent climbing trees and fences and riding my bike. I never worried about time, bills, or where I was going to find the money to fix my car. I used to wonder what I was going to do or be when I grew up, not worry about what I'll do if this doesn't work out. I want to live simple again. I don't want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness, and loss of loved ones. I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind word truth, justice, peace, dreams, the imagination, mankind, and making angels in the snow. So.... here's my checkbook and my car-keys, my credit card bills and my 401K statements. I am officially resigning from adulthood. And if you want to discuss this further, you'll have to catch me first, cause... "Tag! You're it." episode 119 Happy Holi 2022! All About The Festival of Colours with Rai Mukhopadhyay Introduction Happy Holi 2022, everyone! Do you know what Holi is? I've wanted to know more about this colorful (literally!) celebration for years now. And this year, I finally learned!! For all of us in the Northern Hemisphere, we're approaching spring and what a welcome spring it will be. To kick off the springtime celebrations, we have Rai, a resident of West Bengal in India, to tell us all about the North Indian holiday of Holi (that's H-O-L-I), otherwise known as the Festival of Colors.. Actually, it's known as many things, and we'll be hearing allll about that today. Rai details all the fun she had spraying colors on her friends - and possibly lobbing the occasional water balloon at passerbys (not Rai, of course) - on Holi. As the National Spelling Bee Champion in all of India in 2019, Rai is a hugely knowledgeable guest, and she teaches me so, SO much about the religious and cultural aspects of Holi, including several stories of Vishnu and Krisha, and the breadth of ways these stories are interpreted and celebrated across Northern India. Finally, we talk about Malpuas, a pancake-like treat with soft middles and crispy edges and notes of fennel, then covered with a saffron-soaked syrup. All in all, this is a fun, festive, fascinating episode and I'm just so grateful to Rai for sharing with us and to you for being here! Highlights A typical Holi from morning to night The religious, cultural, and seasonal aspects of Holi 4 names: The Festival of Triumph of Good Over Evil, the Festival of Love, the Festival of Spring Three Hindu stories that underly Holi - Lord Vishnu, Krishna Rai's state of West Bengal The breadth of beliefs across Hinduism about the historicity of Hindu scriptures and the idols and temples in the home Why some states in India burn bonfires the night before Holi Fluffy, crispy malpuas - the techniques to create the perfect middle and edges Creating a sweet sugary syrup Listen Now Also listen on: APPLE GOOGLE SPOTIFY EMAIL How To Contact Rai Instagram: @browniesandwhims This Episode's Storied Recipe Recipe Shared by Rai Mukhopadhyay Fluffy, Crispy Malpua Recipe These light fluffy Malpua are lightly flavored with fennel and fried in oil until the edges are crispy and golden. Wish you all a Happy Holi! When we visualize clothes, most of us see the vibrant colors present in our closet ..types of colors that we all choose to identify with. So where do you think these colors come from? Today, the colors that we see in most consumer products—cosmetics, clothes, paints, food, dyes and more—are derived from petrochemicals, which are created through the manipulation of fossil fuels. These release harmful gases long after they have dried, causing respiratory problems and pollution. Synthetic dyes pollute water, poison aquatic life and pose a major health hazard to humans. To put that into perspective, for a population of 7 billion present on our planet today, consider a minimum of 3 clothes per person..that makes it 21billion clothes with synthetic colors. All in all, synthetic colors that leach out into our waters are like slow poison to all the stakeholders connected to water..in short everyone! The need for textile fibre is growing and the possibility to increase the production of virgin cotton is limited. This is because the production of cotton is limited by seasonal weather conditions and by the land area available for fibre cultivation. The land area is needed to cultivate food for the increasing population, and therefore, increasing cotton cultivation is not feasible. The cultivation of cotton also has a high environmental impact, which needs to be considered by looking for alternative and more environmentally friendly fibre sources for the textile industry. Interestingly since 2016, European Union (EU) legislation has forbidden the landfill disposal of organic materials, including textile wastes. Additionally, the member states of EU will be required to set up a separate collection for discarded textiles by 2025. This has created the need to recycle textile waste. Dyeing alone contributes to approximately 20% of global industrial water pollution. This is leading brands and their suppliers to be more open to rethinking how they do things, which is striking in an industry that hasn't changed much in decades. Considering all the above facts, today we bring to you vibrant examples of Colorfix , Spira & CradleToCradle. We truly hope you enjoy listening to this special segment on color pigments.
