Join Christian Jones and Regan Bell with their guest, Tanner Stewart, as they chat about his love for John Grisham novels, specifically A Time To Kill. Tanner is a news anchor and reporter for WEAR Channel 3 News in Pensacola, Florida. Today, he shares why he gets himself lost in John Grisham novels when out of the newsroom. There's a lot to take away from this episode, so make sure to tune in and enjoy the show!   Hooked In Tanner discovered A Time To Kill when he was 16. Although he was not an avid reader, he became fond of the book. For Tanner, the John Grisham novel appealed to him because of the same Southern culture he grew up with. The book reflected much of Tanner's identity that he could not put it down. It felt as if he was at home. He spent so much time reading the first chapter, and the scene laid out in full detail was his favorite. Having read it twice, Tanner remembers how he envisioned himself becoming a lawyer because of the influence brought by Grisham's novel. The book also became his escape at the time he faced trouble within the family. His parents divorced, and he was separated from his brother, who went to college. A Time To Kill immersed Tanner into a world where he forgot his problems at the moment.   About Tanner Stewart: Tanner Stewart is a reporter and weekend morning anchor at WEAR Channel 3 News. Before moving to Florida, Tanner worked at WXXV News 25 in Gulfport, Mississippi as the evening news anchor. One of his first memories of working in television news came in 2017, covering Hurricane Nate on the Mississippi Coast.   Born in Memphis and raised in the Smoky Mountains, Tanner is proud to call Pensacola his home outside the Volunteer State. Tanner is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor's degree in Multimedia Journalism and a minor in Political Science.   When not in the newsroom, Tanner enjoys reading, training for his first marathon, and exploring new places along the Emerald Coast!   Outline of the Episode: [03:01] From Tennessee to Mississippi, and finally to Pensacola, Florida [05:03] Attraction to media – news, movies, broadcasting, and cameras [06:09] A typical day of a news anchor, as told by Tanner [08:13] When Tanner came as a reporter a few weeks earlier before COVID [11:12] Tanner's discovery of the book at 16 [14:32] Started with A Time To Kill and progressed to other John Grisham novels [15:41] The problem with film adaptations based on books [21:27] Differences between a book and a movie in terms of visualization [23:42] How technology has affected people's reading habits [28:00] Tanner's issues with A Time To Kill's movie adaptation [33:05] A bad experience of Tanner where the book played a role in it [34:47] Tanner's critique about books to mini-series instead of film adaptations [39:39] Less interest in crime dramas due to existing ones that are formulaic   Resources: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGE3YQr9SlShtM9cLLORcTg Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TannerTV Get Raw, Unedited Episodes, from FANtastic People, Access To Our Discord Channel and Submit Questions for Upcoming Guests: https://fantasticpeoplepod.supercast.tech/ Connect with Tanner! [spp-player] Show Notes for Episode #162 October 18.2017 of Roadtreking - The RV Podcast: WHAT MIKE AND JENNIFER ARE UP TO THIS WEEK [spp-timestamp time="1:45"] Mike and Jennifer Wendland We're still down on the beautiful Emerald Coast of Florida's panhandle and because we've heard from a number of you who would like to meet us, we're going to try something – a meet and greet afternoon next Sunday, October 22. We're going to meet on Navarre Beach, at the entrance of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Now because of the recent Hurricane Nate, the national seashore drive is closed just west of Navarre Beach. But the meet spot we picked is just to the left, or east of the bridge leading from Highway 98 and the mainland to Navarre Beach. Jennifer and I will be there from 2PM on and whoever shows up, shows up. Bring some beach chairs and refreshments and we'll hang out for the afternoon on one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. Just look for our 2017 Roadtrek CS Adventurous XL 4X4 and come by and say hello. If there are any updates it, we'll post a notice on our Roadtreking Facebook Group and Our Roadtreking Facebook Page so check there for the latest. We're excited to see fuel prices dropping once again…especially east of the Mississippi. A new survey from AAA says that the national gas price average has dropped two cents on the week to $2.47, states east of the Mississippi are paying as much as eight cents less at the start of this week. While gas prices are more expensive than a year ago, the past five weeks of sustained weekly declines indicate that demand may be leveling out alongside refineries and pipelines returning to pre-hurricane operations. In September, Hurricane Harvey drove gas prices to the highest price of the year – $2.67. That was a 32-cent increase inside of 12 days. Now nearly seven weeks post hurricane, gas prices have shown steady decline dropping a total of 20 cents since September 11, 2017 We're really excited about the phenomenal growth of our YouTube RV Lifestyle Channel. We are now getting almost 1 million video views EACH month. We continue to put two videos up each week, as well as regular live reports, and we thank you for subscribing to the channel. In North Carolina a couple of weeks ago, we met the Emby family, who shared with us how they pack and organize for RV trips using Ikea bags. Thanks Embry family! We will definitely pick up some of those Ikea bags. And for all of you listening today, be sure to send me your tips and suggestions for the RV lifestyle. NATE dropping in excess of 20 inches of rain! Major storm or not this is the reason for these early evacuations and Warnings due to State of Emergency. Major Hurricane projections are officially on the table. NEW Models showing NATE possibly "Shooting the Gap" Giving more chances for Major Hurricane at Landfall STATE Of Emergency Declared in Louisiana and Florida, If not already Mississippi and Alabama will follow. In this video I explain why I believe Nate has the potential for the Cat 4 or 5 status. Models were beginning to show a landfall near Cancun Mexico delaying the strength of Nate keeping it a low grade Hurricane but models now beginning to shift east. If this happens we will have nothing to stop Nate from growing fast. The National Hurricane Center has been doing segments on "Rapid growth" basically warning people that this is indeed possible Rapid intensification has been a word used over and over in the past 24 hours. DO NOT TAKE THIS STORM LIGHTLY! CAT 4 or CAT 5 is Absolutely possible but even a Cat 1,2,3 would cause major flooding to the exposed coasts of Louisiana all the way through the Pan handle of Florida. Ill be back shortly Will a detailed Update. 2 Good Hurricane Tracking sites.
