Have you ever met someone who just speaks to your soul? Discover the power of an Anam Cara—your soul friend--- Join and support the community: https://www.creationspaths.com/ In this episode of Creation's Paths, Charlie and Brian explore the concept of Anam Cara—a soul friend, a deep spiritual connection that transcends traditional friendship. They discuss how to recognize an Anam Cara, the ways these connections manifest in our lives, and how we can embody this role for others. Drawing from personal experiences with grandparents, mentors, literature, and music, they illustrate how soul friends nurture our inner growth, offer guidance, and support us on a deeper level. The conversation also touches on mentorship, community-building, and the spiritual practice of second-body relationships, inspired by Thich Nhat Hanh's teachings. Finally, they reflect on the role of Mary, Jesus, and saints as spiritual Anam Cara figures and offer a prayer for the strength to be soul friends to others.Thank you for Liking and Subscribing to this podcastThank you for sharing this episode with your loved ones, friends and community--- Thank you for Tips or Donations: https://ko-fi.com/cedorsett https://patreon.com/cedorsett https://cash.app/$CreationsPathsSubstack: https://www.creationspaths.com/ For all of the things we are doing at The Seraphic Grove go to Creation's Paths https://www.creationspaths.com/ For Educational Resource: https://wisdomscry.com --- A Christopagan Manifesto--- Answer to the Call: A Dream of an Oak Church Guided Meditations Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV0C8kiTKv0J2QAAlD1uaIJvQ3Sr9sIqO Christopagan Playlist:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV0C8kiTKv0ISXDQkZBRB7EHrUUJgXlGN The Everything Playlist:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV0C8kiTKv0Ln3eGW-tDk2R68PM6c182OCreation's Paths Podcast: http://www.creationspaths.com/podcast Church of the Oak Podcast: http://churchoftheoak.com/Hallowstead Podcast: http://hallowstead.com/Social Connections: BlueSky https://bsky.app/profile/creationspaths.com Threads https://www.threads.net/@creationspaths Instagram https://www.instagram.com/creationspaths/#Christopagan #CreationSpirituality #ChristianWitch #Paganism #Esoteric #Magic #Druidry #Mysticism #Spirituality #Occult #WitchCraft #Wicca #IrishPaganism #CelticPaganism #Magick #Polytheism #Enchantment #AnamCara #SoulFriendship #SpiritualAwakening #SecondBodyPractice## Chapters:00:00 Introduction to Soul Friends01:06 Meet the Hosts: Charlie and Brian01:16 Understanding Anamkara01:46 The Role of Soul Friends in Our Lives04:01 Personal Stories of Anamkara15:20 Mentorship and Anamkara17:52 Community and Spiritual Practices23:20 Conclusion and Call to Action Get full access to Creation's Paths at www.creationspaths.com/subscribe
In this episode, Charlie and Brian explore health and rejuvenation Chapter 5 of Druidcraft, focusing on the balance between spiritual and medical healing. They discuss the Irish myth of Dian Cécht and his children, examining themes of ego, humility, and the dangers of dismissing holistic approaches. They also contrast Brigid's healing wisdom, emphasizing community, soul-deep restoration, and right relationships with food, environment, and spiritual well-being.The conversation critiques scientism versus science, the importance of integrating traditional and modern medicine, and the need for support networks in healing. They highlight how myths remain relevant, particularly during crises like the pandemic, and explore how healing arts, faith, and medicine can coexist. The discussion sets up future episodes on Nwyfre (vital energy) and Anam Cara (soul friends).Thank you for Liking and Subscribing to this podcastThank you for sharing this episode with your loved ones, friends and community--- Thank you for Tips or Donations: https://ko-fi.com/cedorsett https://patreon.com/cedorsett https://cash.app/$CreationsPathsSubstack: https://www.creationspaths.com/ For all of the things we are doing at The Seraphic Grove go to Creation's Paths https://www.creationspaths.com/ For Educational Resource: https://wisdomscry.com Guided Meditations Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV0C8kiTKv0J2QAAlD1uaIJvQ3Sr9sIqO Christopagan Playlist:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV0C8kiTKv0ISXDQkZBRB7EHrUUJgXlGN The Everything Playlist:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV0C8kiTKv0Ln3eGW-tDk2R68PM6c182OCreation's Paths Podcast: http://www.creationspaths.com/podcast Church of the Oak Podcast: http://churchoftheoak.com/Hallowstead Podcast: http://hallowstead.com/Social Connections: BlueSky https://bsky.app/profile/creationspaths.com Threads https://www.threads.net/@creationspaths Instagram https://www.instagram.com/creationspaths/## Chapters:00:00 Collective Existential Crisis00:25 Introduction to Druidcraft01:19 Meet the Hosts01:28 Exploring Chapter Five of Druidcraft02:03 The Story of Dian Cécht and His Kids04:23 The Role of Science and Magic in Healing07:46 The Importance of Support Systems17:12 Living in Right Relationship19:16 Brigid and Dian Cécht: Different Healing Paths28:25 Final Thoughts and Reflections Get full access to Creation's Paths at www.creationspaths.com/subscribe
Click here to send me a text message (include your contact info if you want a reply). To be alone in the world is a terrible thing, unless of course it is by choice. Especially for men, the heart may long for deep connection while all our social posturing creates the opposite--distance. When men discover deep friendship with other men it is a gift to be savoured and, in this instance, shared. Don McLeod, Barry Foster and I have met together for almost twenty-five years, dubbing ourselves, preposterously, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. We have no advice about how others might do this themselves, but by sharing our own story perhaps some wisdom will emerge for those who seek a similar experience. We use the word love for sports teams, friends, partners, food, and even God. What are we talking about? What is love? And how might we grow into more loving people? Here are a few hints and guesses about romance, love of self, love of the other, and the possibility of divine love. Inspiration for this podcast come from John O'Donohue's book Anam Cara, Robert Johnson's books He and She, and St Paul's letter to the Corinthians. Enjoy!

#63 – Have you ever experienced connecting with an Anam Cara, or soul friend in Nature? Join us for a wonderful conversation with writer and speaker Leah Rampy on the invitation to reconnect with the beauty, awe, and wonder of the world in these edge times that we now find ourselves in. In this episode, Leah shares about the Celtic term Anam Cara which means soul friend, and how we can find this type of relationship with plants, trees, rivers, and places. She also offers insights on the power of listening and discernment in leadership, and how the global experience of climate chaos and biodiversity loss provides an opportunity to midwife something new and open to deeper states of connection with Nature. After giving numerous presentations on the dangers of impending climate change, Leah Rampy became convinced that something was missing from the conversations. She then began a decades-long journey to understand what lies beneath our unwillingness to change our interactions with the natural world. Leah Rampy is a writer, speaker, and retreat leader who weaves ecology, spirituality, personal stories, and practices to help people deepen their relationship to the natural world. She is the author of Earth & Soul: Reconnecting amid Climate Chaos and a frequent speaker on spiritual ecology and leadership in these uncertain times. Dr. Peggy Rowe Ward and host Elaine Miller-Karas will explore the meaning of friendships, the joys and sorrows that come from loving relationships, and reflect on their nearly two decades of friendship. Recent research indicates that friends can strengthen our immune system, help us recover from illness more quickly, sharpen our memory, and help us live longer. This knowledge reassures us of the healing and life-extending benefits of friendships, filling us with optimism and a sense of security. Dr. Rowe-Ward, Co-Founder of the Lotus Institute, will share the elements of an innovative offering - a soul mentoring program beginning in September 2024 called Anam Cara. Anam is Gaelic for soul, and Cara means friend, so Anam Cara signifies a soul friend. An Anam Cara was a person to whom you could reveal the hidden depths of your life. This friendship embodied recognition and belonging, transcending all conventions and categories. In Buddhist teachings, the Buddha was once asked about the importance of friends on our path. He responded that we benefit from friends who can support and celebrate with us. Ananda, a beloved senior student of the Buddha, knew that having good and encouraging friends was crucial for the path. He even wondered whether having good friends was half the path. “No, Ananda,” the Buddha told him, “Having good friends isn't half the Holy Life. Having good friends is the whole of the Holy Life.” This profound statement underscores the transformative power of good friends in our lives, inspiring us to seek and cherish such relationships. The Bible's Proverbs also emphasize the value of friendship: A true friend shows love, no matter what; gives heartfelt advice, bringing joy to the heart; rebukes when necessary, but the correction is done with love; enlivens, influences, and sharpens; and forgives, not holding grudges. True friends are loyal and help in times of need. Join us for a lively, heartfelt dialogue as Elaine and Peggy share their friendship journeys.

It can be difficult to find courage to talk about endometriosis and the effects of the disease on fertility. In this episode, Julie shares: her personal story of how circumstances beyond her control have shown her what her life's path is meant to be and how she has embraced walking it; dealing with the loss of something she may never have; the importance of finding the right people to support you; and how turning to creativity and making beauty in hardship was the catalyst for her business, Anam Cara Clay Goods. Julie Freeman-Mullins is a Tennessee girl at heart, having lived most of her life in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. She has been blessed to journey through life with her husband and best friend, Josh. They have been married since 2012 and have 2 fur babies: Saydi, a yellow lab/pyrenees mix, and Pearl, their sweet cat baby. Julie has had a varied career, mostly in nonprofit work with a concentration in hospitality where she worked as a professional chef for over 15 years. Moving to central Virginia in 2018 was a big change for her, but also a change that has brought new and amazing opportunities into her life. Most days you can find Julie working as the Volunteer Recruitment and Communications Coordinator with Innisfree Village, an amazing community of folks that has been like a second home for her. And in her spare time, she is also the proud owner of a small business, Anam Cara Clay Goods, where she creates handmade polymer clay jewelry. Her distinct jewelry design gives her the opportunity to share her passion for art while also creating beautiful things for the world to enjoy. It is also a means by which she can give back in meaningful ways, most specifically with raising awareness about the effects of endometriosis and how we can make a positive impact for the millions of women worldwide being affected by this disease. Anam Cara Clay Goods is about more than just the products Julie creates, but the intentional ways she can encourage and empower women to explore their own creativity, to feel good about themselves in their hearts, minds, and bodies, and to believe that-- just like a pair of earrings, we are all better together. Keyboard virtuoso Oliver Wakeman visited us on UAWIL #156 to talk about the John Wetton (Asia, King Crimson, UK) box set as it was being released. We had a wonderful time chatting with Oliver as we are big fans of John Wetton and John had been a mentor and friend to Oliver as they toured together in the early 2000s. We had so much fun that we asked him to come back to promote one of his own projects once he was ready. As Oliver has just released Anam Cara, a solo album 20 years in the making, he was gracious enough to join us again to discuss this beautiful new album. But before you dismiss this as an over the top keyboard showcase, understand that's not this album at all. Oliver talks about how he writes songs in different styles or buckets - Celtic songs, acoustic songs, keyboard prog songs, love songs - and comes up with a theme for each of his solo albums. This album is a Celtic album and though you'll hear some amazing work on the keys from Oliver, you'll also hear a great deal of acoustic melody from guitarist Oliver Day (Fragile). Singer Hayley Griffiths (Riverdance) lends her lovely and powerful voice to give these songs the heart and soul they deserve. With Tory Donockley (Nightwish) and Scott Higham (Pendragon) rounding out the talent that helped bring Oliver's music to light, you have an album rich in texture of which you will discover many layers upon repeated listens. We talk about what Oliver loves about music, how songs can change peoples lives in unexpected ways and when you might be able to see him play live in the future. Oliver Wakeman Talks to Phil Aston - The Now Spinning Magazine Podcast This is the second time I have interviewed Oliver, last time we talked about John Wetton and his time with YES. In this interview we talk about his new Celtic Prog tinged album 'Anam Cara'. We go through each track and it is amazing to hear the stories behind each song and how the album came together. This will certainly be in my top albums of 2024. All the songs and lyrics are composed by Oliver and the band he has pulled together to record this a just stunning. A special mention needs to go to Hayley Griffiths who has such a wonderful voice and here interpretation of Oliver Wakemans lyrics is amazing. The album also features Oliver Day: David Mark Pearce, Troy Donockley, Robert McClung, Mick Allport, Steve Amadeo & Scott Higham. Phil Aston | Now Spinning Magazine

Dr. Yin Paradies is a loving tearer downerer of teetering assumptions, a recalibrator of compasses, an Aboriginal-Asian-Anglo Australian conducting deep research on racism, anti-racism, Indigenous knowledges and decolonisation. Despite inhabiting a comfortable burrow in academia as the Chair of Race Relations at Deakin University, he's also an anarchist, an animist, a trickster, a disruptor and a sage voice on so many topics that Reskillience is interested in. This is one of those convos that creeps up on you, that builds in energy and quietly blows shit apart. We discuss the aliveness of everything, the possibility in passivity, the nature of prayer, the perils of intentional communities and how Yin and his kin at Anam Cara are doing things differently. We talk about karma yoga, eldering, sociocracy and little bits of carrot floating in the soup of consciousness. "Anam Cara" by Gilmer Galibard (GAL 002) is inspired by the Gaelic term "soul friend." The title track of this beautiful 3-track EP explores the complexities of friendships and marks the second release of the label named after the UK-based artist. It emphasizes mutual respect, effort, trust, honesty, and the necessary work to maintain healthy and nourishing relationships. "Anam Cara" is a contemplative downtempo piece that also incorporates elements of the deep, hypnotic techno that we adore so much. At its core is an intriguing modular exploration that gradually unfolds throughout its seven-minute duration. Various intimate murmurs and bubbling elements complement this exploration. The recurring percussive sounds create a sense of beating hearts and evoke the multidimensional emotions associated with friendships. Deep friendships are often characterized by unspoken understanding, connections formed through sharing experiences or thoughts. “Anam Cara” beautifully resembles that entanglement in sound. The things that connect the different layers are sometimes not obvious, spoken in a language without form, that cannot be named but are always with meaning. Much like soul friends themselves. “Anam Cara”(GIL002) is set for release on August 28. write up by Theresa Bäumel https://soundcloud.com/theresa-appletree https://soundcloud.com/gilmergalibard https://www.instagram.com/gilmergalibard/ www.itsdelayed.com www.instagram.com/_____delayed/ www.facebook.com/itsdelayed

Kate Guthrie is brilliant. A Pastor, Chaplain, Spiritual Director and just overall wonderful person, Kate wrote a prophetic dissertation in 2014 that is even more relevant today. While some of the terms may need updating, her observations about how our souls are shaped by digital media are prescient. Kate's grasp of modern spiritual formation is beyond necessary and wildly helpful. I connected with Kate looking for a Spiritual Director, but she was so gracious enough to send me her dissertation too. And I was immediately hooked. I tore through her writing in one plane ride because what she was talking about was so pertinent to the world as I see it. I couldn't wait to talk to Kate, so I invited her on the podcast and wanted to share it with everyone. You can learn more Kate's Spiritual Direction practice at Anam Cara. Futurepast's Alternative Earth series welcomes a talented Belgian producer, Kato De Vidts, for her second full EP on the label. The four-tracker EP, 'Human Becomings,' features tracks originally made for last year's Horst Arts & Music Festival performance. Kato's aim for this performance was to create a collective serenity through music, a unified experience where the audience would be encouraged to shed light on their own vulnerable presence and emotion. The release's closing track, 'Anam Cara,' is a wonderful cinematic escapade rich in dramatic string pads and driven by two hypnotic sequences that perfectly complement each other. 'Human Becomings' EP is coming out on February 16 via Berlin-based Futurepast. @katodevidts Kato de Vidts on instagram: https://www.instagram.com/katodevidts/ www.itsdelayed.com www.instagram.com/_itsdelayed_ www.facebook.com/itsdelayed

Confidentiality is deeply important in the spiritual direction and supervision space, but what do we need to consider when thinking about how to guard the holy ground of our directee's souls? What imagination might be necessary when we talk about confidentiality with ourselves and with others? What does that process look like, and how might it be engaged in creativity and hope? Join Maria and Tara as they talk with our guest Jeremy Frye about the ins, outs, and practicalities of confidentiality in the spiritual direction and supervision relationship. Jeremy Frye is a spiritual director, retreat leader, and Director of Sacred Community for Anam Cara Ministries. One of his deepest joys is companioning people on their journey toward living into and out of their belovedness. His vocational pilgrimage began with serving for 20 years in full-time pastoral ministry in the local church, which has given him a profound understanding of and compassion for those whose personal spirituality and professional contexts converge (sometimes easily and sometimes causing great distress). He is deeply acquainted with grief and loss as well as the good but difficult work of the disordering and reordering of one's faith. Jeremy has completed a certificate in Soul Care from the Soul Care Institute, through Fuller Seminary, a 2-year apprenticeship in spiritual direction through Anam Cara, and is currently enrolled in the Companioning Center's program for Supervision Training. Jeremy lives with his wife, two children, one dog, six chickens, and whoever else needs a place to rest their head at An Téarmann (Gaelic for the refuge), their little urban homestead in East Nashville, Tennessee. He is taking both local and at-a-distance directees and supervisees. He can be reached via email at:jeremy@anamcara.com.
