This week's episode is with the brilliant cello-piano ensemble, Cheng² Duo, with siblings Bryan and Silvie Cheng. They have performed to great acclaim worldwide and have released to date four fantastic albums, the most recent Portrait which was nominated for a JUNO award. Portrait features music by composers from diverse Asian heritages, and in this podcast, Bryan and Silvie reflect on some important personal experiences related to this. We are featuring some of the music from Portrait and some of their other projects in this episode, with their insights on championing living composers such as Paul Wiancko and Dinuk Wijeratne and reaching new audiences. I asked them about their Carnegie Hall debut when Bryan had just started high school, and some of their individual experiences with concert preparation, touring, and finding a life-balance. Some of what you'll hear about are Bryan's reflections on his memorable childhood lessons with Yuli Turovsky, the incredible opportunity he's had to play the Bonjour Strad, and his experiences with international competitions. Silvie shared her reflections on her mentors and her life as a performer and educator in New York. Bryan and Silvie grew up in Ottawa, Canada where I live and it's wonderful to see their careers expanding both individually and as a world-renowned chamber ensemble. Bryan spoke to us from his home in Berlin, and Silvie from her home in New York. Can you buy this independent podcaster a coffee? https://ko-fi.com/leahroseman Thanks! Nature behaves as has been. We assume that, while the going is good,it would always be so. Not so. There is a saying in Tamil that there is none who has prospered continuously for ten years, nor one who has suffered for ten years. Life ,which includes Nature,is a Cycle. Every thing occurs in a Cycle. So are droughts,Astronomical phenomenon and Natural calamities. Few seconds of Earthquakes or Volcanic eruption inflict damage for thousands of years . Man ,in his arrogance, not realising that he can not even be identified as Cosmic speck in the universe, believes ,with his pet toy,Science,he can prevent calamities and Nature. There is something we do not know. Hinduism understands this limitation and devised its religious systems. There are mantras to cure diseases,to bring rainfall. Conversely there are mantras to induce diseases and to prevent natural calamities, like flood, costing lives. I am furnishing mantras to prevent calamities ,limit damages from rain, flood. Tantric system. Basma, ashes are to be taken from the burning ghat. Two bricks are needed. Place one brick on the ground. Draw four vertical lines on it. Then place the other brick on it,after chanting the following mantra, 108 Times, in the image.. Krishna Krishna Mahabaaho Thvan nam Gokulam Prabho, Dhraathumarhasi Devaana Kubhithaath Bhakthavatsala. -Govardhana Uttaranam,Narayaneeyam. Chant for 108 times. 3.For those who know Tamil, following Hymn may be chanted 108 times. It is by Sundarar port by Nayanar, sung at Thirupungur Temple, Tamil Nadu to stop rains. Mantra to prevent Natural calamities. Chant the manta in the image 108 times. Mantras are provided as images in Ramanisblog. We have often spoken about the relevance of Web3 and decentralization in our podcast. Still, it is essential to talk about pioneers in the Web2 space fighting for free internet and data privacy. They are the advocates working with governments for data regulations that protect internet users. One of such organizations is Mozilla. In this episode of Voices of the Data Economy, we talked with Udbhav Tiwari, Public Policy Advisor at Mozilla. During this discussion, he explains the role of Mozilla in the free internet ecosystem, data regulations discrepancies in the Asia Pacific and particularly India, and more. Voices of the Data Economy is supported by Ocean Protocol Foundation. Ocean is kickstarting a Data Economy by breaking down data silos and equalizing access to data for all. This episode was hosted by Diksha Dutta and audio engineering by Aneesh Arora. Here is a list of the selected time stamps on the different topics discussed during the podcast: (2:20-7:25) - Mozilla's role in the internet ecosystem (7:25-13:20) - Data regulations in the Asia Pacific with a focus on India (13:20-28:35) - What is non-personal data, and how are the regulations?
