The 119th Congress faces a pivotal moment in shaping America's technological future. With advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity threats on the rise, and digital trade playing a crucial role in the economy, lawmakers must decide whether to embrace policies that foster innovation or burden industries with heavy-handed regulations. In this episode of American Potential, host David From speaks with James Czerniawski, Senior Policy Analyst at Americans for Prosperity, about the critical tech policies Congress should prioritize. They discuss why a light-touch regulatory approach is essential for AI to reach its full potential, how digital privacy laws should be structured to prevent a patchwork of conflicting state regulations, and why cybersecurity must remain a top priority to safeguard national security. With China aggressively investing in AI and emerging markets rapidly evolving, America cannot afford to fall behind. This conversation highlights why unleashing innovation through free-market principles—not bureaucratic red tape—will keep the U.S. at the forefront of technological leadership. Will Congress rise to the challenge? Tune in to find out.

James and Thomas explore how the misuse of emergency powers not only hinders AI development but also creates risks for U.S. innovation in the global race against countries like China. They discuss the potential economic impact of overregulation and the need for Congress, rather than the executive branch, to take the lead on responsible AI governance. Tune in to hear how this critical issue could affect the future of technology, the economy, and America's global leadership.

In this episode of American Potential, host Jeff Crank sits down with James Czerniawski to delve into the controversial and often misunderstood realm of U.S. government surveillance. They explore the implications of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), specifically Section 702, which allows the U.S. government to collect and analyze communications from non-U.S. persons outside the country without a warrant. This practice, however, often results in the collection of American citizens' data, raising significant privacy concerns. James Czerniawski breaks down the history and evolution of FISA, illustrating how the quest for national security has sometimes encroached upon personal privacy. The conversation sheds light on how these surveillance practices impact everyday Americans and what reforms are necessary to protect individual freedoms while maintaining security. HOUSE REPUBLICANS HAVE STOPPED FISA RENEWAL And right now I'm fine with that. As far as I know, and I looked, not a single person was fired for abusing the FISA system to spy illegally on Americans. NOT ONE. But this is not quite what it seems. This vote would have required a warrant to spy on American citizens that doesn't currently exist. I'm talking about this twice today, once with James Czerniawski, Senior Tech and Innovation Policy Analyst at Americans for Prosperity who writes on privacy concerns at 1pm.

New York City is the first to declare social media a health hazard. The point of that can be to draw awareness to something and motivate people to do more to protect young people. Another possible point of that is to set things up for more government regulations. Americans For prosperity's James Czerniawski discusses the City's declaration and warns against government trying to do too much under the guise of protecting young people.

Senior Policy Analyst in Technology and Innovation at Americans for Prosperity, James Czerniawski, talks to John Reid about the latest AI news.
This week on TechtalkRadio, Justin and Shawn are out, and host Andy Taylor speaks with James Czerniawski, who holds the position of Senior Tech and Innovation Policy Analyst at Americans for Prosperity and serves as a commentator for Young-Voices. James has written extensively on various topics such as Section 230, antitrust, commercial drones, and Spencer Cox - The Governor of Utah's recent bill proposing time limits and a digital curfew for minors. In the interview, James shares his insights on this legislation and its potential for adoption in other states. Andy recently stumbled upon a treasure trove of old TechtalkRadio Show Interviews from the time when the show was known as Techtalk with Mike and Andy in the Coachella Valley at Palm Springs. Among these archived interviews are some real gems, and Andy is excited to share a few of them with the audience. The first interview he wants to shareis with Ben Sawyer, who visited the show in 1999 to discuss his book "MP3 Power", which he co-wrote with Dave Greely and Justin Frankel, The Creator of Winamp. The book delved into the increasing use of MP3 technology and the benefits of audio compression. During the interview, the hosts also talked about Justin's creation of Winamp and Shoutcast for streaming audio content. Justin's inspiration for creating Shoutcast was his love for the KROQ Loveline Radio Show and his desire to hear it beyond the confines of LA radio. The follow-up book, "Online Broadcasting Power", even gave a nod to TechtalkRadio, as fellow host Bill Grace would stream the show across the country, making it the first in the Coachella Valley to do so. In addition, Andy shares an interview with Michael Giacchino, a prolific music composer known for his work on popular TV shows such as LOST, numerous blockbuster movies, and several beloved video games. During the interview, Michael gives insights into his creative process and even shares anecdotes about meeting legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg. James Czerniawski joins me to discuss two recent Supreme Court cases, Gonzalez v. Google and Twitter v. Tamana, which have implications for free speech on the internet and Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Section 230 is a law that protects websites from liability for third-party content. Chenowski, a policy analyst, explains that repealing or reforming Section 230 could significantly impact speech online and limit access to new and diverse voices. The Gonzalez v. Google case involves a family suing Google over a terrorist attack in which an ISIS recruitment video was seen on the platform. The family argues that Google should be liable for recommending the video and aiding a terrorist organization. On this episode of the CyberBites Podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with James Czerniawski of the Libertas Institute. The Libertas Institute is based in Lehi, UT and is a 501(c)3 who's mission "is to change hearts, minds, and laws to build a freer society by creating and implementing innovative policy reforms and exceptional educational resources." James is a Policy Analyst specializing on Technology and Innovation. The conversation starts out by framing the challenges and problems we as individuals and our government's face as it relates to technology, privacy and security. From there James talks about the Privacy Proposal that the Libertas Institute is working to get passed in the Utah State Legislature. This was a really fun conversation and super thankful for James taking time out of his week to chat. I want to thank Lindsay Marie for making the introduction and helping to set this conversation up. James was born in New Jersey and raised in New York. Prior to joining Libertas, he was a Program Coordinator for the American Institute for Economic Research. He earned his master's degree in economics from George Mason University where he was a Mercatus MA Fellow. He graduated from the State University of New York – Purchase with a bachelor's in economics and American history. He is a travel enthusiast, a professional gamer, a cellist, an actor, a book worm, and a strong supporter for the ideas of liberty. You can find James on Twitter: @JamesCz19 As a special note: this was the first time recording on a Rodecaster Pro. Man did this thing surpass my expectations. The sound is great, the ability to control and adjust things during the recording as fantastic, and you have to love the built in sound board.
