John Anderson joins energy analyst Aidan Morrison and journalist Chris Uhlmann for a forensic examination of Australia's energy crisis. Together, they expose the broken promises behind the renewable transition, the CSIRO modelling built on figures no operating wind farm has achieved, and the legislative blunder that turned the New England Renewable Energy Zone into a multi-billion dollar infrastructure disaster. Drawing on international comparisons, primary documents, and on-the-ground testimony, the panel reveals how Australians were sold a false economic promise — and what the true cost to the nation's bills, industry, and security will be.Aidan Morrison is a leading researcher into Energy Systems and currently the Director of Energy Research at the Centre for Independent Studies. In 2023 he exposed how the famous CSIRO report “GenCost” excluded vast costs required to integrate and firm renewables by treating them as “sunk” costs. In 2024 he was amongst the strongest voices calling for nuclear energy in Australia and was a leading critic of the ‘Integrated System Plan' (or ISP): Australia's blue-print for a transition to an energy system dominated by wind and solar. Chris Uhlmann is a Walkley Award winning Australian journalist and news commentator. His career in the media spans over 35 years in radio, print and television. His latest documentary is The Real Cost of Net Zero: The shocking truth of the renewable energy push.

1. "Fueling America: 250 Years of Energy Innovation"Tom Hall introduces the Institute for Energy Research's special project celebrating America's 250th anniversary by highlighting the nation's leadership in energy innovation. Key points include:The U.S. has historically led in energy innovation (Drake well, Henry Ford, Wright brothers, first LNG terminal)Energy innovation has been a driver of progress, democracy, freedom, and prosperityThe project focuses on prominent figures and innovators in the energy sector throughout American history2. Property Rights and American Energy ExceptionalismA critical distinction is made about why the U.S. is uniquely positioned as an energy producer:American property owners own subsurface mineral rights, unlike most countries where governments own themThis uniquely American system of property rights, combined with the rule of law and common law system, has been fundamental to energy progressThis explains why the U.S. leads in shale production while other countries (Bulgaria, England, Germany) don't3. Iran Crisis and Geopolitical StrategyExtensive discussion of the current conflict with Iran, including:A 47-year struggle with a radical regime that finances terrorism through oil revenuesThe blockade strategy as a way to starve the government of revenue without ground warThe importance of preventing Iran from controlling the Strait of HormuzThe need for regime change (civilian government replacing the mullahs) for lasting successHow U.S. energy strength (shale revolution, LNG exports) enables this policy4. Global Energy Market RealignmentThe conversation explores how the geopolitical situation is reshaping global energy:OPEC is effectively dead as a controlling forceThe U.S. is now the "swing producer"Expected shifts in oil trade flows and relationshipsUAE's withdrawal from OPEC signals the organization's declinePotential strategic alliance between Saudi Arabia and Israel5. Trump Administration's Energy Policy ImpactDiscussion of how Trump's policies are reshaping energy regulation:Repeal of Chevron deference and the EPA's 2009 endangerment findingThese repeals dismantle the legal foundations of Obama and Biden energy restrictionsTrump is described as "American energy unleashed"Broader policy shifts including border control and NATO burden-sharing6. Venezuela's Energy RecoveryAnalysis of Venezuela's potential return as an oil producer:Venezuela previously produced 3+ million barrels per day before Maduro/ChavezExxonMobil is now exploring re-entry into the marketRecovery would supply Gulf refineries with heavy crudeThis would increase U.S. exports and reshape oil marketsBenefits would extend to Venezuelan people through economic improvement7. California's Energy CrisisDiscussion of California's self-inflicted energy problems:The state has transitioned from a major oil producer to being dependent on Middle East importsOne-party rule has created policies that drove out oil companies (Chevron, Valero)Climate policies have merely exported emissions rather than reducing them globallyTrump suspended the Jones Act to help alleviate the crisisThe state serves as a cautionary tale of poor energy policy8. Broader Geopolitical RealignmentThemes about shifting international relationships:The U.S. is becoming more naturally aligned with countries like India than FranceEuropean countries are moving toward authoritarian socialism and proving unreliable alliesThe Trump administration is reshuffling long-standing international arrangements (NATO, embassy moves, etc.)Focus on Western Hemisphere security (the "Don Roe doctrine")This podcast presents a comprehensive view of how energy policy, geopolitics, and innovation intersect to shape global affairs.Follow David on his Substack https://blackmon.substack.com/

Aidan Morrison and Derek Bush join John for a frank conversation about Australia's cumbersome renewable energy transition, and the real costs being borne by the communities expected to host it. They make the case that rural Australians are being overrun by a policy conceived in cities and imposed on regional areas, exposing the considerable gap between the government's 2030 targets and what the national grid can realistically deliver. This is a timely warning that Australia's energy policy is being driven by political ambition rather than engineering reality, and that the consequences will be felt by every Australian as power bills continue to rise.Aidan Morrison is a leading researcher into Energy Systems and currently the Director of Energy Research at the Centre for Independent Studies. In 2023 he exposed how the famous CSIRO report “GenCost” excluded vast costs required to integrate and firm renewables by treating them as “sunk” costs. Why do everyday people buy or trade crypto? And how do states regulate or even use it themselves? Host Al Lim speaks with Wesam Hassan and Antulio Rosales about the practices and politics of crypto in Turkey and Latin America. In places facing acute and overlapping crises, such as Argentina and Turkey, high inflation and currency instability have driven widespread crypto adoption as people seek ways to hedge against inflation, speculate, preserve savings, or move money outside traditional financial systems. States also experiment with crypto in their own ways, including using it in transactions involving commodities, such as Venezuelan oil, or in projects like El Salvador's Bitcoin Beach. From geopolitical dynamics in the wake of Nicolás Maduro's extraction to questions of religious permissibility amid everyday practices of luck, this episode explores the diverse ways and contradictions through which states and people engage crypto. Episode 2 Guests: Antulio Rosales is a political economy scholar and Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Science at York University in Toronto, Canada. His research centers around the political economy of development, natural resource extraction, and democracy in Latin America, with special interest in the expansion of cryptocurrencies and their impact on energy infrastructures, the environment and development. Antulio's current project is concerned with the political and social conditions that lead to expansions and restrictions of cryptocurrency markets in both the Global North and the Global South. His research has appeared in the Review of International Political Economy, Current History, Development and Change, New Political Economy, Energy Research and Social Science, Political Geography, among other journals. Wesam Hassan is an anthropologist and trained medical doctor whose research lies at the intersection of medical and economic anthropology. Currently, she is a Fellow in Anthropology at the London School of Economics and Political Science and a postdoctoral affiliate at the University of Oxford. She researches uncertainty, temporality, speculation, and risk in contexts of economic and health crises and technological affordances. Wesam completed her DPhil at the University of Oxford, with long-term ethnographic work on gambling, cryptocurrency trading, and moral economies in Turkey's urban centers amid economic collapse. Her earlier research at the American University in Cairo examined biomedical uncertainty and the governance of HIV-positive subjectivities in Egypt. Her scholarship, published in peer-reviewed journals, investigates how speculative infrastructures mediate survival strategies in precarious futures shaped by ecological, political, and economic crises. Her work has critically examined the moral and material economies of gambling, cryptocurrency and gambling, digital speculation, and healthcare infrastructures, tracing how risk, uncertainty, and future imaginaries are negotiated in contexts of socio-economic crisis. Before returning to academia, she worked for over a decade in public health and humanitarian aid with UN agencies and the third sector. Series Host: Al Lim is a PhD candidate in Anthropology and Environmental Studies at Yale University, where his research examines the social ecology of crypto in Thailand. He has published in Urban Geography, Environment and Planning E: Nature and Space, and The Journal of the Siam Society, and holds an MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a BA (summa cum laude) from Yale-NUS College. He also brings several years of professional experience in the crypto and AI sectors, including venture capital and ecosystem development.

Dr. de Baar's main scientific interest is the control of nuclear fusion plasmas, with a focus on control of Magnetohydrodynamics modes (for plasma stability) and current density profile (for performance optimization). In his research program, all elements of the control loops are considered, including actuator and sensor design, and advanced control oriented modelling. He also has a keen interest in the operations and the remote maintainability of nuclear fusion reactors.Dr. de Baar's research largely focuses on understanding and controlling the turbulent plasma in a fusion reactor or tokamak: hot, charged and magnetised gas. Fusion could be a clean, safe, large-scale energy source, but the big challenge to realizing commercially attractive fusion energy is protecting the wall of the fusion reactor against the hot fusion exhaust. In the research program Dr. de Baar is carrying out with DIFFER, the aim is to start managing the heat load inside the plasma, and bring the energy to the wall in a controlled way. As a physicist, Dr. de Baar has a strong interest in control engineering, as the two fields make it possible to combine very different viewpoints.Dr. de Baar received his Ph.D. is physics from TU/e and also holds an MSc in experimental physics from the University of Utrecht. #MarcoDeBaar #EindhovenUniversityOfTechnology #PlasmaFusion #FusionResearch #DutchInstituteForFundamentalEnergyResearch #EUROfusion #DIFFER #JointEuropeanTorus #InternationalThermonuclearExperimentalReactor #Magnetohydrodynamics #PlasmaStability #ControlEngineering #Tokamak #ControlTheory #FusionEnergy #Nuclear #ITER #Thermonuclear #ExperimentalPhysics #Energy #PlasmaPhysics #NuclearFusion #Tritium #Deuterium #InertialConfinementFusion #MagneticConfinementFusion #SustainedPlasmaBurns #FuelCycle #ElectricityGeneration #BurningPlasma #TritiumBreeding #BreedingBlankets #EdgePlasma #ProgressPotentialAndPossibilities #Science #Engineering #Technology #STEMSupport the show
As we roll into the midterms, the Democrats are already rolling out "Affordability" as a key battle cry. Well, the facts show that the average blue state pays an estimated 37% more for electricity than the average red state. This podcast went out on the Energy Impacts Podcast with David Blackmon and the Energy News Beat Podcast with Stu Turley. Tom Pyle, the CEO of the Institute for Energy Research, lays out the article linked below, and it is very clear. Energy Policies account for the greatest increases in energy costs. The main topics discussed in this podcast are:1. Electricity and energy prices in the United States, particularly the higher costs in "blue" (Democratic-leaning) states compared to "red" (Republican-leaning) states. The transcript discusses a report by the Institute for Energy Research called "Blue States High Rates" that analyzes this trend.2. The impact of renewable energy policies and mandates, such as renewable portfolio standards, on electricity prices. The transcript argues that these policies, combined with the forced closure of traditional baseload power sources like coal and nuclear, have driven up costs in certain states.3. The challenges faced by states like California and New York in maintaining reliable and affordable energy supplies due to their aggressive climate and renewable energy policies. The transcript discusses issues like the closure of refineries, reliance on imported energy, and the difficulties in building new natural gas pipelines.4. The role of the federal government, particularly the Trump administration, in energy policy decisions and their impact on electricity prices. This includes topics like the EPA's endangerment finding and the potential benefits of rescinding it.5. The broader political and ideological divide between "red" and "blue" states on energy and climate policy, and how this translates into differences in electricity affordability for consumers.Check out the Substack article https://blackmon.substack.com/01:25 Intro to the main topic of Blue State and High Rates02:23 Tom Pyle, breaks down the report07:16 Wind and solar in Texas08:43 Graphic on costs in blue vs. red states14:25 transmission lines and costs17:24 California and its Energy Crisis21:02 Energy Policy defines electricity rates26:54 Jones Act and LNG Tankers37:33 Carbon Taxes and Net Zero#energynewsbeat #netzero #democrats Connect with Tom on his LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/thomasjpyle/Check out the IER Institute for Energy Research https://www.instituteforenergyresearch.org/the-grid/blue-states-high-rates/

The global LNG market has been tight since 2022, with prices remaining around USD 10/MMbtu (about EUR 30/MWh). However, with the one-year countdown to the complete phase-out of Russian gas starting next month, and a new wave of LNG capacity from the US and Qatar expected to come online from next year - could prices drop as low as USD 7/MMbtu? In this episode, Richard sits down with LNG analysts and geopolitical experts to discuss how Asia could see a strong demand rebound in the next few years, why Germany's declining industrial gas consumption puts downward pressure on long-term demand into Europe. But there is a note of caution as structural challenges in the US LNG construction industry are likely to cause supply delays. What if Flight MH370 wasn't just lost, but simply became hidden from view? In this episode with controversial youtuber Ashton Forbes, we take the mystery seriously: not as magic, but as a challenge to what we think we know about plasma, quantum mechanics, and fusion. The question isn't about belief, but about possibility: if teleportation happened, what physical mechanisms could explain it? We're at the edge of reason for this one, where mystery bashes up again rationality.PATREON https://www.patreon.com/c/demystifysciPARADIGM DRIFThttps://demystifysci.com/paradigm-drift-showOUR HOMEBREWED MUSICCheck out our band's new album:https://secretaryofnature.bandcamp.com/album/everything-is-so-good-hereVinyl pre-orders available now: https://buy.stripe.com/14A5kC3Od5d21Ms7zPdEs09Ashton's YT Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@UCHmFQzkpaJBSDD1PPFhPPSg 00:00 Go! Join John and leading energy researcher Aidan Morrison as they outline why nuclear power should be at the centre of Australia's energy strategy. Aidan argues that modern nuclear technology is safe, and superior to renewables in terms of its reliability and cost. The discussion illuminates the misinformation which has characterised Australia's energy debate, calling for a shake-up in energy governance in order to ensure that policies are based on engineering and economic realities rather than distorted political narratives. Aidan also debunks the popular belief that Australia's vast land and abundant sunshine make it uniquely suited for a wind and solar-powered grid, pointing out that these energy sources require massive infrastructure investments to be reliable. He suggests that ideological opposition and entrenched interests have prevented a rational discussion on nuclear power, despite its potential to provide affordable, clean, and secure energy. Aidan Morrison is a leading researcher into Energy Systems and currently the Director of Energy Research at the Centre for Independent Studies. Following the conclusion of a recent Senate Inquiry into Australia's energy planning and regulation, Aidan reached the conclusion that the ISP is “worse than useless” and declared that trust in Australia energy establishment is now so badly broken that a series of resignations will be required to restore the credibility and respect that regulatory organisations required to administer the energy system.

The state will soon start competitive bidding on approximately 420 acres of forested land near Gaylord, Michigan, to clear space for a solar farm while generating revenue and advancing the state's long-term green energy targets, Notably, one study published by Harvard researchers found that clearing forests to replace with solar panel developments may actually lead to an overall increase in greenhouse gas emissions, and a paper published by Chinese researchers also reached similar conclusions. There are also oil and gas wellheads in other areas of the woods that remain forested, according to MLive. “This is pretty amazing. Michigan is not like California, it's not like the sun is always shining there,” Dan Kish, a senior research fellow at the Institute for Energy Research, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “This is the theater of the absurd, and it's all driven by tax credits and giveaways from the federal and state government, and by mandates that the governor there has implemented.” Source: dailycaller.com The Stunning Statistical Fraud Behind The Global Warming Scare Global Warming: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration may have a boring name, but it has a very important job: It measures U.S. temperatures. Unfortunately, it seems to be a captive of the global warming religion. Its data are fraudulent What do we mean by fraudulent? How about this: NOAA has made repeated "adjustments" to its data, for the presumed scientific reason of making the data sets more accurate. Nothing wrong with that. Except, all their changes point to one thing — lowering previously measured temperatures to show cooler weather in the past, and raising more recent temperatures to show warming in the recent present. This creates a data illusion of ever-rising temperatures to match the increase in CO2 in the Earth's atmosphere since the mid-1800s, which global warming advocates say is a cause-and-effect relationship. The more CO2, the more warming. But the actual measured temperature record shows something different: There have been hot years and hot decades since the turn of the last century, and colder years and colder decades. But the overall measured temperature shows no clear trend over the last century, at least not one that suggests runaway warming. That is, until the NOAA's statisticians "adjust" the data. Using complex statistical models, they change the data to reflect not reality, but their underlying theories of global warming. That's clear from a simple fact of statistics: Data generate random errors,
