Edge remains a top Detroit need Scott Bischoff and Russell Brown returned to the Detroit Lions Podcast after a week away and went straight back into draft talk. The focus: edge defenders for the 2026 NFL Draft. They have hit offensive tackles two weeks ago and plan to zigzag position groups in the coming weeks. Edge help stays high on the Detroit Lions list. The hosts have grumbled about it since the trade deadline and do not expect that to stop. There is no promise the Lions attack the position at pick 17. They could wait and address it later. But the top of the class offers real juice, and the conversation centered on one name. Ruben Bane scouting report: power, fit, and limits Ruben Bane, the edge out of Miami, landed as the favorite fit between the two hosts. If he is on the board at 17, they are sprinting to the podium. They doubt he lasts that long. The tape points to a down defensive end in a four three who can set the edge versus the run and live in the backfield. The style is attack. He gets up the field, hunts the ball, and harasses quarterbacks. Length shows up on the sheet. The hosts do not see shorter arms as a problem for Bane. He plays with power. He is good with his hands. He wins by shortening the path, leaning with his inside shoulder, and reducing the surface an offensive tackle can touch. Foot quickness and pop in his lower half help him close. He is strong enough to park a block, then rip free and finish. There is a knock to note. Ankle mobility and bend are not elite. At full speed he can run past the spot, then has to gear down to finish a tackle. Flattening to tight angles is not always there. Even so, the overall disruption and physicality fit what Detroit wants at defensive end. Pick 17 realities The hosts framed Bane as a top target for Detroit, but they expect him to be gone before pick 17. If he makes it to that slot, something strange likely pushed him down. In that unlikely case, the card should be easy. If he is off the board, the Lions may pivot and take edge later, depending on how the first round falls. What's next on the board Expect more position swings each week. Tight ends may be next. One early note slipped in: Oscar Delp from Georgia sits as a possible No. 2 tight end on their personal board. Georgia's 41-21 win over Mississippi State might've been the most complete performance of the season. Gunner Stockton looked calm, confident, and in total control, tossing three touchdowns and leading an offense that piled up more than 300 rushing yards. Topics include: The line has swung wildly at FanDuel in the first 24 hours--Jay Greeson gives an explanation here that you may not have considered. Tennessee's offense has been the talk of the matchup. Quarterback Joey Aguilar averages 9.1 yards per attempt and hasn't thrown an interception in 59 tries vs. Syracuse and East Tennessee State, and wide receiver Chris Brazzell III has been one of the league's best receivers so far. The Vols' three-headed rushing attack of Star Thomas, DeSean Bishop and Peyton Lewis has gotten a ton of work. But Tennessee hasn't faced a defense with the type of NFL talent Georgia has. This will be a battle of who can hold the football longer. The Vols ran 100 plays vs. ETSU, while Georgia has out-snapped opponents 152-103 in two games. Georgia quarterback Gunnar Stockton was more mobile than expected in Week 1. But the offense has averaged a pedestrian six yards a play in two weeks, though the Bulldogs' tendency under coach Kirby Smart has been to play vanilla offense against overmatched opponents like the Bulldogs have seen in Marshall and Austin Peay. Georgia was without starting offensive linemen Earnest Greene III and Juan Gaston last week, and each is questionable for this game as of Monday. Georgia's not utilized talents like tight end Oscar Delp and receiver Noah Thomas early, but each could have a much bigger role this week. The Vols will need to watch talented receiver Zachariah Branch at all times, as he has game-breaking speed. The Bulldogs are led by quarterback Carson Beck, who's perhaps the preseason Heisman Trophy favorite. - Florida transfer Trevor Etienne adds a dynamic presence to the running back room. Georgia's receiving room of Dillon Bell, Dominic Lovett, Rara Thomas, Michael Jackson III, London Humphres, Colbie Young, Arian Smith and Anthony Evans lead one of the country's deepest receiving rooms. Oscar Delp and Lawson Luckie have the unenviable task of replacing Brock Bowers. Four of Georgia's offensive linemen--Earnest Greene III, Dylan Fairchild, Tate Ratledge and Xavier Truss have all gotten some preseason all-American publicity. Veteran linebacker Smael Mondon is a preseason All-American candidate and Jalon Walker seems poised for a bigger role. The Bulldogs have a pair of All-American candidates in cornerback Daylen Everette and Maliki Starts, but the Bulldogs have players like Ellis Robinson IV and Julian Humphrey who'll need to take big roles also. Georgia's special teams tandem of punter Brett Thorson and kicker Peyton Woodring is a good one. The Bulldogs have a tough schedule but still, Georgia's talent should make it an outstanding bet to reach the College Football Playoff.
