Rebecca Huntley, Rick Morton, Julia Zemiro and Sarah Kanowski bring you stories of human failure, misadventure and outright fiasco in a live storytelling event recorded at Adelaide Writers Week.A few weeks ago, some former guests of Conversations, and our two presenters gathered at the Adelaide Town Hall. The event was a live storytelling hour, with the theme 'Mistakes were made', in front of a rapt audience of 800 forgiving souls.Writer and social researcher Rebecca Huntley shared her dramatic foray as a first-time driver.Journalist Rick Morton recounted a story about a run-in between his brother's drug- and alcohol-fuelled friends, with a cameo from the rom-com 'Bridget Jones' Baby'.TV presenter and actor Julia Zemiro told her own tale of mortification in a professional setting, and her experience of "esprit de l'escalier" — thinking of the perfect response once you have already left the building. Our own Sarah Kanowski spoke of the time when a few very big risks were taken, that one time in the Amazon Basin. This episode of Conversations touches on mistakes, fiascos, accidents, insults, life stories, epic personal stories, ayahuasca, The Amazon, ice, drug addiction, Bridget Jones, and more.

For 15 seasons and 181 episodes, Julia Zemiro and Brian Nankervis have been the dual hosts of 'Rockwiz', bringing their wit, charm and performance energy to Australia's legendary music quiz show. In this episode Tony chats to them about what makes a good MC, and they share tips and yarns from several decades of hosting big events. In the second half, Tony's 12 year old son Jack joins the conversation. He's a big fan of Julia and Brian (and Rockwiz), and fancies himself as a bit of an MC himself. He prepared some questions for his heroes, and it's a lovely and funny end to the episode. There's some extra Jack questions that will be in the bonus Patreon feed, and on the Speakola newsletter. If you've watched any Australian telly over the past 20 years, then you're well acquainted with Julia Zemiro. She's charmed us as the host of RocKwiz, visited famous people's childhood's in Home Delivery, and been a theatresports champion. She's Roz in the TV series Fisk, and she brought a local connection to Eurovision when hosted the Australian telecast. Above all she loves music, and it was high time I invited Julia to Take 5. I always love chatting with her, but I didn't expect some of the revelations she let drop in this conversation. About the road she took to get here, and what she's thinking about doing next. Why do cast members of Everything Everywhere All At Once cry every time they accept awards for the film? It's called healing, baby. On Todays episodes I have one of my favourite personalities 'Julia Zemiro.' 'Julia' is a French-born Australian television presenter, radio host, actress, singer, writer and comedian. She is best known as the host of the music quiz and live performance show 'RocKwiz' which now has a new home on Foxtel! 'RocKwiz' airs Friday's at 7.30pm on 'FOXTEL' and 'On Demand.' If you have never seen it before make sure you check it out. Julia a phenomenally entertaining and joy to watch. Plus if you love music - you will adore this show. We will discuss her influences and find out who particularly she looked up to in her early days. I will ask about how 'RocKwiz' got rebooted for 'Foxtel?' Julia explains how the role came about and how her relationship with co host Brian Nancurvus has evolved. Plus we will some exclusives on the new series of 'RocKwiz' including some tie bits regarding the guests like 'Ben Lee,' 'Tina Arena' and 'Jimmy Barnes.'See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

David Sean Gleeson, (born 3 June 1968) is the lead singer of Australian hard rock group The Screaming Jets. He was born in Newcastle, New South Wales . . Gleeson formed his first rock band, Aspect, in 1985, with school pal, Grant Walmsley. In January 1989 Gleeson on lead vocals and Walmsley on guitar, were joined by Brad Heaney on drums, Richard Lara on guitar and Paul Woseen on bass guitar, to form The Screaming Jets as a hard rock band in Newcastle. Within twelve months they had performed more than 280 live shows, they established a reputation for being one of the best young live bands in Australia, winning the praises and support slots of The Angels, The Choirboys and The Radiators. By late 1989, The Screaming Jets had won youth radio station Triple J's National Band Competition. They signed a recording deal with the leading independent label rooArt. The Screaming Jets moved from their hometown Newcastle to Sydney's notorious Kings Cross district in early 1990, and recorded their debut album All For One in mostly midnight to dawn sessions at a local studio, after playing live shows seven nights a week. In 2006, Gleeson appeared as the vocal coach for actress Kate Fischer in the televised celebrity singing competition It Takes Two. He returned to the show in 2007 and partnered with TV presenter, Julia Zemiro. In early 2011 Gleeson was offered a radio show with the Triple M network. By mid-year he was hosting two shows, Access All Areas and Rock of Ages, interviewing artists including Jimmy Barnes and Don McLean, and giving an inside view of the music industry. Late that year Gleeson recorded an album, Take It to the Streets (31 August 2012), with his childhood idols, The Angels, as their new lead singer, and they completed a national tour. On 19 June 2016 at the Governor Hindmarsh - Adelaide, Dave Gleeson was inducted into The South Australian Music Hall Of Fame, alongside The Angels. On 31 January 2022 he returned to Australian rock radio station Triple M filling the 7-10pm nightly slot with his new show Triple M nights with Dave Gleeson broadcasting across Australia from Triple M Adelaide studio.
