Sabalenka wins Miami as the Sunshine Swing ends with a downpour for Novak Djokovic as he lost out to 19 year old Jakob Mensik in straight sets. The title was Sabalenka's first since that heartbreaking loss in the final of the Australian Open to Madison Keys and with it she cements her place a the top of the world rankings by opening up a 3000 point lead over No.2 Iga Swiatek. Swiatek went out to WC Alexandra Eala in another early shock loss for the former World No.1 and Joel, Kim and Chris question is it time for her to switch up her coach after not winning a title since Roland Garros last year?Elsewhere Djokovic declared his Miami form to be the best he had played since the Olympics where he won the gold medal, it wasn't enough for him to win the title in Miami but it did prove that the Murray partnership is on an upward trajectory. There is a 2010s themed mailbag that puts Kim and Chris to the test and Joel talks his anguish when Tim Henman used to face off against Andy Murray in a ‘favourite vs favourite' mailbag! They also preview the return to clay as Charleston gets under way and a number of 250s on the ATP Tour before the Monte Carlo Masters begins the clay court season proper next week.Roland-Garros Hospitality with Sports, Travel and Hospitality GroupTo guarantee the best seats in the house with ticket-inclusive official hospitality, visit https://bit.ly/4j6RYBzSOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. This week's spotlight turns to the indoor tracks and roads of the world, as we discuss the continuing recalibration of running performance. Every USA Men's Indoor distance record was broken in the course of a week, with two world records among the performances. One of those world records didn't last the week, as Jakob Ingebrigtsen broke it in France. Then on the roads, Jacob Kiplimo took the half marathon into a new galaxy with a sub-57 performance. The two-hour marathon is now clearly within reach. Gareth and Ross discuss those performances, and inspired to some Discourse, look back at a 2008 paper that analyzed race-horses and greyhounds to make predictions about how fast humans can still run. We check in those predictions to discover how shoe tech has moved some events ahead of the curve. We also shine one last Spotlight on the Janik Sinner three month ban, elaborating on a few matters that arose since our previous emergency Spotlight, and explain why some of the vilification of anti-doping's process may be unwarranted, and in some instances (Tim Henman!) completely detached from reality!Join DiscourseFor more conversation and insight, join our Discourse community where fellow listeners, experts and enthusiasts offer thoughts and opinions on this issue, and many more sports science topics. Sinner will only be out until the French. The Ban working for him to play a Grand Slam. Alexandra and Ougi discuss the controversy with the balls - always different at tournaments because of money and sponsorship. Players are being vocal about the feel of the ball and are calling for one ball to be used at each surface. Alexandra talks about Agassi and Graf winning the Pickle Ball Challenge in Las Vegas and one million dollars.

As we head towards our 100th episode, we've been revisiting some of our favourite performance insights from previous guests. In this one, it's Tim Henman's unique advice on handling pressure. In such a gladiatorial sport as tennis, and as a Brit playing at Wimbledon with the whole country expecting you to win, Tim definitely knows what pressure feels like. Yet if anything, it brought the best out in him and he always looked the calmest man in the arena. Tim shares how he handled these situations, the mental tricks he used and how the rest of us might carry this approach into our daily lives. Hosted on Acast. What does success mean? Is the 'winner and losers' narrative too simplistic?Tim Henman reached six major tennis semi-finals - four at Wimbledon - and was ranked fourth in the world. And yet, in some quarters, there is a view that somehow Tim didn't deliver. If that were true, then almost all of us are failures. “If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.” - Mahatma Gandhi Belief is a state of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in a person or thing. Our belief affects every single aspect of our life and gives us a vision of our future. Therefore, if you believe that you are incapable of doing it, chances are you will not achieve what you so desire. What do you really believe? Are you one of those who think that they are not good enough or that they can only do certain things? If you believe that you cannot overcome the challenges you are facing right now and that you do not deserve a better tomorrow, then your future will be the same sad life you are living right now. If you want to change that, which I urge you to do, listen to what I have to say and think about your future life. You still have the chance to live your dreams, go for it. Highlights: ⚡️ Our mind has great power but a lot of us have given up that power. ⚡️ Mindset is the setting of the mind. It is the lens through which we view the world. ⚡️ We can change our beliefs with our mindset.
Is success about winning - or fulfilling your potential?Someone I see often at Wimbledon is Tim Henman – someone I loved watching in the late 90s through to the early 2000s, and who I have had the pleasure of interviewing several times over the years. Now Tim used to get flack – and sometimes still does – for not winning Wimbledon. He was four-times a semi-finalist, but many people seemed to think that was a failure of sorts. I remember one interview with a Championship footballer in which he said he didn't want to be a 'classic British loser' like Tim Henman, seemingly overlooking the fact that Tim was ranked as high as number four in the world, while this particular footballer wasn't even the fourth best player at his club, which was in England's second division. And so – I think Tim is a really great person to explore what success means. Many people tend to think in binary terms – in terms of winning and losing, but actually isn't it about fulfilling your potential? Tim definitely did that – there wasn't much expected of Tim as a junior, yet he took British tennis to new heights, laying the groundwork for Andy Murray to go on and reach the Wimbledon promised land. **Follow/message me:Instagram https://www.instagram.com/simonmundie/Twitter https://twitter.com/simonmundieAnd for the 'Mundie on Monday' newsletter - featuring three of the best Life Lessons from three years and 200 of these conversations - head to simonmundie.com (where you can also drop me an email)Please do share this episode with anyone who may benefit, and rate and review wherever you get your podcasts.
