Superman (2025) - SPOILER REVIEW | DCU Connections & Easter Eggs Explained!

Superman has now been out in theaters for a few days and I've had the opportunity to now see it a good couple of times. This was my most anticipated movie of the year and I'm glad to say that it lived up to the hype. While it may be his most flawed movie, James Gunn still delivers a sincere, funny, action-packed and TRUE Superman movie. He still hasn't missed. I'm unbelievably hyped for the future of the DCU and the next few movies and shows, the next one being Peacemaker - Season 2 which drops August 21. This is going to be my FULL, no holds barred SPOILER review for James Gunn's Superman. If you haven't yet seen the movie, go see it! Please don't contribute to yet another DC cinematic universe with a lot of potential being tossed to the way side. Sit back, grab some popcorn, relax and enjoy as I go through all the spoiler details of the film and talk the big DCU connections or set ups.

    Superman (2025) - MOVIE REVIEW (Spoiler-Free)

The time is finally here. My most anticipated movie of the year - James Gunn's SUPERMAN - is finally arriving in theaters this weekend. I had the incredible opportunity to see this movie at an early Fan First Screening yesterday, which is how I'm getting this review out about the time it is debuting worldwide, in a select few countries today. This is the official, theatrical launch of James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU, that I really hope will actually have the chance to thrive. I love DC Comics, and I've loved Superman since I was a small child. I was introduced to the character through the Justice League cartoons and the original 1978 Richard Donner film. I dressed up as Superman and tried to do the curl and all of that. It has been a LONG wait to finally have another Superman movie on the big screen, and - boy, oh boy - has it been a tumultuous one.I was a huge fan of Henry Cavill's Superman and am one of the people who love Man of Steel. Zack Snyder's Justice League is one of my favorite comic book movies of all-time too, but the toxicity around the excitement and hate for this new movie has been rough. It's the 'sports-ation' of movie fandoms that has really frustrated me over the last few years, and it's showcased no more clearly than how people talked about this movie up until release (and probably after release too). That being said, because the character means so much to me and because James Gunn's film really resonate with me on an emotional level, I've always known he was going to deliver a worthy film that starts the Big Blue again. You'd know that about me if you've listened to any of my reviews of James Gunn's films and shows, which are all glowing, and listened to my breakdowns of the trailers. The trailers certified for me that it seemed like Gunn was finally taking the character back to its much needed hopeful and optimistic, yet slightly retro, roots. So, does James Gunn's Superman deliver on its promises; is it the truest version of Superman we've had in a long time? Find out in this SPOILER-FREE review!Superman:Written and Directed by: James GunnSuperman created by: Jerry Siegel & Joe ShusterProduced by: James Gunn, Peter SafranExecutive Producers: Nikolas Korda, Chantel Nong Vo, Lars P. It was a BIG week in trailers! The first looks at Lord & Miller's adaptation of Project Hail Mary, Edgar Wright's The Running Man adaptation AND Christopher Nolan's onscreen take on The Odyssey dropped. The first two of those released online earlier this week, while the teaser for The Odyssey was played in front of showings of Jurassic World Rebirth. Although, I'm sure if you looked online you'd pretty easily be able to find a recorded version of that trailer somewhere; welcome to the internet! Since I wanted to talk about all three of these trailers, being that they are all some of my most anticipated upcoming movies and are all coming from some of my favorite filmmakers, I decided to react to all three of them in one podcast episode. Jurassic World Rebirth - MOVIE REVIEW

Here we go again! The seventh film in the Jurassic franchise - Jurassic World Rebirth - is now in theaters worldwide. This is the first time since The Lost World that David Koepp has returned to write the screenplay for, but this time it's not an adaptation of a Michael Crichton novel. I had hope since that original announcement and the hiring of Gareth Edwards as the director certainly had me yearning to finally see a good Jurassic film in theaters again. For context, the original Jurassic Park is easily one of my favorite movies ever made; I think it is, in every measurable way, a perfect summer blockbuster. That being said, I don't think any of the Jurassic Park/World sequels have ever been fully satisfying. There are a lot of fans of The Lost World. I am not one of them. There are some staunch defenders of Jurassic Park III, and I am certainly not one of those either. I can have some guilty pleasure fun with the first Jurassic World, but the two films that followed were dull and disappointing. I was one of the few who was able to build up some legitimate hype for Rebirth, because I like the cast and creative team. Is it, by far, the best Jurassic sequel... even if that doesn't mean much? Ironheart - Series REVIEW (SPOILERS) | Disney+

All six episodes of Ironheart, the latest Marvel Television series, are now streaming on Disney+. This show has been LONG DELAYED from its initially planned 2023 release (I believe), and it finished initial shooting almost three years ago. The craziest part of all this is that Ryan Coogler is one of the EPs on the series. He introduced the character into the MCU in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. I started off being pretty excited for this show because of the initial pitch and because I was a fan of the initial Bendis comics that introduced this character in the 2010s. But, my excitement completely waned over the delays and lack of marketing, which clearly showed Marvel's lack of enthusiasm for the show. Marvel (and their TV side especially) having their mixed track record during The Multiverse Saga did not help matters. So, is Ironheart the epic win that Marvel TV needs? I have been on record that 2025 has been an immensely underwhelming year for movies thus far... filled with a ton of disappointing movies and very mediocre theatrical experiences as well. We are now HALFWAY through 2025 and despite the large bag of disappointing and not very good movies released so far this year, we have had some pretty good to great movies that I want to celebrate as we cross the halfway point of the year. So, today I am going to be giving you guys the list of my top ten favorite movies of 2025 so far! She's back! After the smash success that was the first M3GAN that released in January of 2023, M3GAN has returned for her second adventure from Blumhouse. I enjoyed the first M3GAN way more than I should have at the time, despite it being a relatively tame, paint by numbers killer robot movie. I appreciated the attempt to at least tie it into the idea of heavy technological reliance when parenting; it was more than I expected from a mid-tier Blumhouse movie. Admittedly, that description makes up almost the entirety of the studio's output but nevertheless. The sequel, from the trailers, looked bigger and badder in just about every way. This is the latest collaboration between Kosinski and Jerry Bruckheimer, who last produced Top Gun: Maverick together. This has been one of my most anticipated movies for YEARS now, because Top Gun: Maverick is easily my favorite movie of the decade so far, making it therefore the best new release I've covered. I've also been a casual fan of Kosinski's previous work, the strongest film of his being Only the Brave prior to Maverick. How to Train Your Dragon (2025) - MOVIE REVIEW

Well, well. It took a while but another major studio is now in the business of remaking animated classics. How to Train Your Dragon has meant a lot to me since I was a kid. The first film is near perfect, the second is an amazing follow up, and the third is a flawed but incredibly satisfying and deeply emotional farewell to Hiccup & Toothless. I've been lucky that Disney hasn't really been going after my childhood favorites, with the exception of The Lion King, to remake but now Universal and DreamWorks has dipped into my well of favorites. What piqued my curiosity very early on in the process of this film's development was that Dean DeBlois, director of all three of the animated films, was returning to tackle the live-action film, which was certainly a surprise. That being said, I have loved almost all the casting for this film and the trailers have certainly given me the nostalgic feels... but if you've listened to any of the episodes where I've discussed this film, you'll probably know that there has been one lingering question in my head: why? Why remake one of the only films that truly spawned a new franchise of the current generation. It seemed far too son, even for the nostalgic effect to be felt to its maximum. But of course, I went in hopeful and optimistic that Dean DeBlois could recapture the magic of the animated entries. Was he able to? From the World of John Wick: Ballerina - MOVIE REVIEW

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, which will probably take the cake as the longest movie title of the year, has FINALLY hit theaters. If you couldn't tell from the title, this is the LONG delayed John Wick spin-off starring Ana de Armas, which actually takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 and John Wick: Chapter 4. It has, by the way, now been over two years since John Wick: Chapter 4 came out. Time flies, but that also means that my excitement for this film has just been waning and waning since it was announced. This expansion of the John Wick universe is probably one of the most baffling things I've seen from Hollywood recently. As interesting as the world of John Wick is, I still wholeheartedly believe that Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski's action directing is the draw of those movies. Add on top of my skepticism of turning everything into a cinematic universe all the news of this movie not really working and needing multiple rounds of reshoots, I went in skeptical. So, is Ballerina a worthy addition to the franchise? Just a few months after Cobra Kai ended, the Karate Kid “universe” is back with a new movie. Karate Kid: Legends hit theaters today and I had a chance to see the film! While I love the original Karate Kid, I don't think there has been a single good Karate Kid sequel and I have the unpopular opinion that The Next Karate Kid is probably the most enjoyable movie in this franchise outside of that original, but maybe on a ‘so bad it's good' level than being legitimately great. But of course, I love Cobra Kai. My reviews of some of the season of Cobra Kai are some of my most popular episodes I've ever published, but I did get quite a lot of flack for my disappointments with the final season. I always found it so odd how quickly after Cobra Kai we were already seeing Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso again, epically because of how perfect that final scene between him and Johnny was. I've been a fan of Guy Ritchie's ever since I first blossomed as young film fan; I think he consistently makes fun movies, although they're rarely great, and we're certainly long past his era of truly awful movies at this point. Here we are! Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt for his final(?) adventure with his IMF crew. Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise's latest team up - Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning - has now arrived in theaters, and is, of course, the second part of the Dead Reckoning saga of this franchise. As I've said before, Mission: Impossible is probably my favorite movie franchise of all-time. That answer has likely come about due to a number of my other favorite franchises diluting themselves over the last number of years, but Tom Cruise just knows how to deliver a kick-ass time at the movies. He's done so again, and again, and again, so consistently over the last decade, even outside the Mission franchise. That being said, Dead Reckoning was an interesting specimen. I loved it on first watch but that movie did not do very well at the box office, which was extra surprising considering it was riding the tremendous wave of Top Gun: Maverick's success the year prior. On successive rewatches, I myself have grown to have a number of issues with that movie but still find it to be an incredibly satisfying action movie. It's certainly still better than most other action movies you've seen in theaters since that film, largely because of Tom Cruise's endless dedication to risk his life... for our entertainment of all things. As you all probably know, this is my most anticipated movie of the year because I love Superman and, of course, I love, LOVE James Gunn's films. He tells stories that really resonate with me and I want nothing more than Gunn to work his magic on this character, who's so undervalued in today's pop culture environment, but that I still love so dearly. So, how was the full trailer? And what were some hidden details, maybe hints towards the larger plot that you may have missed? Find out in this initial reaction to the trailer!

The second MCU film of the year - Thunderbolts* - has now arrived theaters globally. To be perfectly frank, I was never super excited about this movie prior to the marketing. I was excited by the initial announcement of a Thunderbolts film and Jake Schreier's involvement as director but was quite thrown off by the initial cast announcement. While the Thunderbolts were never really Marvel Comics team that I gravitated towards, I did like a lot of the usual characters included... and seemingly almost none of them were going to be a part of the movie squad. This choice continued a very awkward trend of the MCU trying to distance itself from the very media that allowed it to exist in the first place. I have to say though, props to the marketing team. By the time I was stepping into the theater, I was PUMPED to finally be seeing Thunderbolts*. The trailers have been fantastic, with a few awesome parodies, and even the product tie-ins have been creative (not that tie-ins are exactly a good indication of quality). Did the movie live up to the marketing, or was it as bland as I initially feared?Thunderbolts*Directed by: Jake SchreierStory by: Eric PearsonScreenplay by: Eric Pearson, Joanna CaloProduced by: Kevin FeigeExecutive Producers: Louis D'Esposito, Brian Chapek, Jason TamezMusic by: Son LuxDirector of Photography: Andrew Droz PalermoEdited by: Angela M. I, myself, saw the first film a good few years ago and also happened to quite enjoy it. It's not the best of its genre and nowhere near some of director Gavin O'Connor's finest work, but it's a solid action thriller but done with a great twist. Sinners - MOVIE REVIEW

Director Ryan Coogler is back to deliver us more goods on the big screen with his latest original film, of course with Michael B. Jordan, Sinners. The trailers for this film have been absolutely fascinating and the hints over the years of Coogler's next project being an original and a horror film were extremely exciting to me. That's because I don't think he's made a single movie below the 'great' level. I enjoy his two Black Panther films immensely and about equally. The two more impressive outings in his career so far though have been his debut feature Fruitvale Station, a heartbreaking true story, and one of the greatest sports films of all-time: Creed, a legacy sequel that managed to top anything that had come before... and the original Rocky won Best Picture! Coogler is one of the best working directors, as I've clearly established, and him managing to make a high-budget, genre-blender and still managing to maintain the rights is just such a boss move, while the very easy next step for him would have been to continue immediately with what would've been a surefire hit in Black Panther III. Anyhow, is this movie as good as the rave reviews so far have indicated? Hey everybody, welcome back to MOVIE Morning where, today, I'll be reviewing The Amateur. This is the latest studio action thriller, but this time from 20th Century Studios, starring Academy Award Winner Rami Malek. It has a pretty stacked cast that also includes Laurence Fishburne, Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane!), Caitriona Balfe, Holt McCallany and Jon Bernthal, the Punisher himself. I only heard of this film about a month back and immediately put it on my watchlist. I love mid-budget action thrillers like this, and I like them the best when they're about the unlikely action heroes and not the invincible John Wick's of the world. Although, of course, who doesn't love John Wick? I also liked that it looked to have more of a serious edge than these films typically have nowadays. So, what did I think of The Amateur? Christopher Landon - director of Happy Death Day and Freaky - is back with his latest film, Drop. I was a HUGE fan of both of those crowd-pleasing, horror-comedies (one of the most underutilized genres in Hollywood today) but I didn't quite love the premise or trailer for Drop. I don't know if that's because I was expecting kind of his usual shtick of a fun sci-fi spin on a slasher. Even Heart Eyes, which he wrote alongside one of his Freaky co-writer Michael Kennedy, was a slasher combined with another genre, rom-coms. And, to great success I might add. I just thought the premise required such a crazy leap of suspension of disbelief that I just couldn't get into the idea. Did the film win me over? Ayer is, of course, most famous for the Suicide Squad debacle that occurred back in 2016. The Beekeeper, as most Jason Statham films, definitely garnered a solid box office return which is why the two were quick to pair up again but I seemed to be in the minority because I didn't like it very much. The first MCU movie of the year - Captain America: Brave New World - is now out in theaters. Honestly, I've been shockingly not excited for this movie. As much as I love Sam Wilson and I did enjoy Falcon and Winter Soldier more than most people, the behind the scenes drama on this movie and the creative team announced just kept killing my excitement as we got closer to release. I've liked the tone of the trailers but all we heard from behind the curtains weren't spelling good news for this movie at all. Of course though, I went in really wanting this movie to be good; the only reason this podcast even came to be in the first place is because of my love for the MCU and Steve Rogers has always been my favorite character in the franchise. The movie has now released worldwide. Does Captain America: Brave New World continue a winning streak for Marvel after Deadpool & Wolverine... or are we going to have to wait for Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four (two MCU movies I AM excited about) to get the good stuff? Find out in this NON-SPOILER review!Captain America: Brave New World:Directed by: Julius OnahScreenplay by: Rob Edwards & Malcolm Spellman & Dalan Musson and Julius Onah & Peter GlanzStory by: Rob Edwards and Malcolm Spellman & Dalan MussonBased on the character Captain America created by: Jack Kirby and Joe SimonProduced by: Kevin Feige and Nate MooreExecutive Producers: Louis D'Esposito and Charles NewirthMusic by: Laura KarpmanCinematography by: Kramer MorgenthauEditing by: Madeleine Gavin, Matthew SchmidtCasting by: Sarah FinnProduction Design by: Ramsey AveryCostume Design by: Alexis Forte, Gersha PhillipsCast: Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Carl Lumbly, Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson and Harrison FordSynopsis: After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. Cobra Kai - Season 6: Part 3 REVIEW (SPOILERS)

Well, here we are. The final five episodes of Cobra Kai have finally arrived. Needless to say - if you've seen my reviews - I have been endlessly frustrated with Cobra Kai - Season 6 so far. In every way, the last ten episodes have been a bridge too far for me, even for a show as silly as Cobra Kai. More importantly, most of the show's plot lines (if not, all) were wrapped up by the end of season 5. All that's left is a bunch of dumb karate and stupid teenage melodrama. All that being said, I've still been hopeful for the final few episodes of the show because of how much I enjoyed so much of this show and how much they've made me love these characters. And of course, seeing the wrap up of a 40-year arc between Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso is going to be emotional. Did the final few episodes deliver and is it a worthy end to an unforgettable chapter in the Karate Kid saga? Well, let's discuss it in full detail!

Super Bowl weekend has now come and gone, and for all of us non-sports watchers, it's TYPICALLY a weekend of an abundance of trailer/teaser drops for movies. Anyone who was online yesterday very quickly learned that it was going to be a largely quiet year on the trailer front.Don't even get me started on the whole Superman Puppy Bowl debacle. But, the one new major trailer we did get was the new trailer for Marvel Studios' upcoming May release: Thunderbolts*. this is now the film's third trailer but I actually hadn't covered either of the previous trailers, for whatever reason.Because of this (and how much this trailer blew me away), I decided I'd give you my (hopefully) quick reaction to this Big Game Trailer. Enjoy!

I'm over a month late... but it's finally time to count down my top 10 favorite films of 2024, with quite a few honorable mentions. This is by far the most new release films I've ever watched in one year, and it's largely due to me attending college in the U.K. and having way more access to many more films, particularly awards films. I spent an extra month trying to make my coverage of 2024 films more robust and watching some of the other 2024 movies that people are really excited about. Yet, I've still missed quite a few big ones but I felt it was time to finally throw in the towel and do this list. So, continue on to the episode to find out MY top 10 favorite movies of 2024!

Love Hurts (2025) - MOVIE REVIEW

OSCAR-winning actor Ke Huy Quan, originally of Temple of Doom and Goonies fame, has made an epic Hollywood comeback over the last few years. Now, he's leading his very own movies. Love Hurts is the latest production under 87 North, the same people behind the original John Wick, Violent Night and Nobody. It's also being directed by a stuntman and Quan himself, during his near 4-decade absence from the silver screen, worked sometimes as a stuntman. I'm just so happy for him and most of my excitement for this one comes from seeing him be put fully into the spotlight. Is Love Hurts a must-see action film in theater? Jurassic World Rebirth | Trailer REACTION

The dinosaurs are back! The first trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth - the seventh installment of the Jurassic franchise - has finally hit theaters .This movie had a FAST road to production, with Jurassic World Dominion only coming out three years ago and this movie only being announced about 18 months ago. For context, the time gap between Fallen Kingdom and Dominion was FOUR years. The first Jurassic Park is a top 15 movie of all-time for me... but this franchise has basically now disappointed me five straight times. I don't think Lost World is horrible and I have some fun with the first Jurassic World but the pairing of David Koepp and Gareth Edwards has always given me some hope for this entry. I've liked all of Edwards' movies but haven't quite loved ay of them, but he's certainly the kind of director who can inject some worthy visuals back into this franchise and bring the thrills. The question has been: are the characters and story going to live up to the visuals though? Those areas have been my issue with all of his films so far, but with Koepp on board, I've had some hope. Also, because this movie shot large chunks in Thailand, I'm immediately going to be pumped to see it. Does the trailer give the impression that this is going to be the best movie in the franchise since the original? Find out in this initial reaction!
