Ian and Emma Ho Explore "Strange New Worlds" At 12 years old, Ian and Emma Ho are my youngest guests ever on this show! These twins appeared in the first season of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," with Ian as The First Servant in "Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach" and Emma as Oriana in "All Those Who Wander." Joined by their dad for their first interview together, we learn about what got this pair interested in acting and how they entered the world of Show Biz, their earliest roles, having fun swearing on-screen (much to the chagrin of Mom and Dad), some of their voiceover work including PJ Masks as Carly and Cartoka, and their time on the sci-fi hit "The Expanse." From there, we move on to Trek to discuss their memories from on set and what it's like to perform on Star Trek as a kid! We discuss makeup, what a shoot day on SNW was like for them, hanging out with the other actors on set, some of the incredible special effects and stunts they saw firsthand, and much more! Plus, Anson Mount's thoughts on how to handle bullies, how the parents feel about some of the mature themes in these episodes, and some very sage advice from these young actors, who you will surely see a lot more of as they continue to grow and book more gigs! NOTE: Due to some connectivity issues, the video is rough for the first third and gets better for the second half, but it's rarely perfect. Welcome to Summer! Don't go out and get hot in the sun, stay in and get sweaty with the Yancy Street Podcast! (was that too much?) ;) This week does start with another tribute to another lost legend in the comics industry, Tim Sale (0:04:46). His legacy covers decades of comics and some of the eras' most significant material, to say the least. This tribute includes statements from his fellow creators, honoring his long-lived career. As for the rest of the news (0:14:47), the general topics include Spy Kids, Madame Web, and Comic Con 2022! The previous week's comic book Picks (0:22:24) include Immortal X-Men #3 as Pick of the Week, plus a number of fun others! This week's comic book Pulls (0:29:58) have a bunch of #1's and one-shots, again; all a ton to look forward to reading! Starting the other media, I cover the Obi-Wan Kenobi Finale (38:52), or episode 6, by going through the various characters and where they all end up: Reva, the Twins, Vader V Kenobi, That Ending, and, of course, What Comes Next! Then it's on to Ms Marvel episode 3 (47:53), titled Destined. I cover the events of the episode including all the big reveals, how they connect to the comics, and what that might mean for not just the rest of the show, but the future the Marvels movie! Finally, I do a Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Catch-Up (1:03:08), covering episodes 6-8, titled Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach, The Serene Squall, and The Elysian Kingdom, respectively. All three episodes have something in common-- Classic Trek themes that made the show a success to begin with, and keep fans like me coming back! This being the last week of June, expect the June Yancy Street Podcast to come out whithin the next week: The Patsy Podcast! AKA the Patsy Walker/Hellcat Story! Unless you're Christopher Cantwell (her current, IMO excellent writer), there's probably something in it you didn't know about her character, because she's one of Marvel's oldest! In addition, I'll be posting about the September Marvel and DC comic book solicitations....which might end up being a blog post, in which case it will be linked here when posted: (future link!) Other than that, you'll find me next back with regular weekly episode 70 this coming Monday, July 4th! In the meantime, Hydrate, Hippies, and enjoy your nerdy passions as Summer starts to peak. "Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach" has the Enterprise intervening in a world that is outside of Federation territory. While the ship and crew have no jurisdiction here, will Pike follow his heart and violate General Order One to save a child, a civilization, and his love's soul? Yvette and Matthew talk about the Prime Directive, our continued love for Doctor M'Benga, Potential Borg Origins, suggest a floating city should have railings, and try to figure out why cadet Uhura was given live fire phaser orders during a training day.

Content warning: We discuss school shootings, gun violence and child death a LOT in this episode, but specific time stamps are as follows: Conversation about the Uvalde massacre from 4:30 to 6:26 The coronavirus death toll: 8:42 to 9:01 but also Liz is very mean about the British to 10:04 Back to school shootings, and also Kenobi, from 25:41 to 31:38 Anika and Liz don their finest catsuits to plan a jail break and discuss episodes 6 ("Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach") and 7 ("The Serene Squall") of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Is it possible we are being punked? Is everyone else getting a different, better version of Strange New Worlds? If you're going to rip off Le Guin, at least try and do a good job Everyone who called Discovery "grimdark" and "nihilistic" owes it an apology It left the sexism behind, but otherwise Strange New Worlds is very much the heir to Enterprise We are very concerned for M'Benga and Rukia, and also very mad about fandom's racism towards them Following last episode's strong anti-child-eating stance, we're going to take another radical position: maybe we shouldn't let children die? Anika will not stand by and let Liz criticise the Star Wars prequels SNW is like season 3 of Voyager: competent but not in any way groundbreaking or remarkable "The Serene Squall" owes something to How Much For Just The Planet? Except that was … good We've seen Our Flag Means Death, we have standards when it comes to comedy pirates Honestly, we would feel better about the trans/non-binary representation here if the writers were not cis and the writing was not so heteronormative (It's so heteronormative!) Anika has a controversial opinion: let's decanonise TOS Hey, remember when this series had two Black regulars? Where'd they go? Maybe they're in the same place as that emotional continuity we were promised?
This week, we're discussing the latest episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach.
Space pirates are no match for Pike's hair on this week's Transporter Room 3. We review “Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach” and “The Serene Squall,” with lots of spoilers. We also talk a bit of news (the 25th anniversary of DS9's “Call to Arms” Season 5 finale!) and beam down a famous Red Shirt from Riker's imperfect future. So put down your Starfleet-approved industrial hair gel and listen now to TR3!
Mike still has COVID, but he's recovering - in the meantime, he's fully taking advantage of his isolation to catch up on some great TV! We accidentally go down an Off Topic rabbit hole at the beginning of the episode to discuss what he's watching, including The Morning Show and For All Mankind. We dive a bit deeper into the latter, and discuss how shows such as For All Mankind and The Expanse are great at bringing to life how dangerous space can be. We then get into this week's SNW episode, "Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach," which we both thoroughly enjoyed. We dive deeper into this episode's use of metaphor for our society today, the hopes and fallacies of humanity at large, and our thoughts on the reality of Gene Roddenberry's vision.

Hot damn, we have a lot of amazing shows to talk about this week, with Coral, Adam, Russ and Nathan. We just right into our favorite with our Stranger Things Season 4 Recap and how we are all waiting on bated breath for the last 2 episodes to drop in July. Lucky for us, there are so many crazy good shows to watch like, the return of The Orville. Personally I like the new look of the show and we find it weird having to compare it to good Star Trek, but we eventually get to Orville Episode 1 “Electric Sheep” & Episode 2 “Shadow Realms.” This week we also talk about Star Trek Strange New Worlds Episode 5 “Spock Amoke” & Episode 6 “Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach” and if that wasn't enough sci-fi, we get to dissect Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 3 & 4 and figure out why some of us love it when some are losing patience with the show. Those of us who watched Ms. Marvel, generally agree, this show is fun. Check out Ms. Marvel episode 1, “Generation Why” on Disney Plus. A rarity for our podcast, we are finally getting into Amazon's crazy anti superhero show, “The Boys” season 3 Episode 1-3. I felt bad because I was unable to get through Episode 4 and Russ and Adam were frustrated trying their best now to spoil that episode. Phew, that was a lot of shows. I hope you are all watching these fun shows with us! –Nathan Email

“Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach” When Captain Pike returns to Majalis, a planet where he once took part in a rescue mission, he meets a woman whom he may have been hitting on a decade earlier. While it may be crazy and unlikely that they are meeting again, Pike has arrived just in time to save her and a young boy from attack. Coincidence? Perhaps. But the situation is far more complicated than it seems and Pike finds himself faced with a troubling reality that he cannot stop when it turns out that the boy is destined to be sacrificed for the good of Majalan society. Meanwhile, the world's medical technology holds the promise of saving M'Benga's daughter. In this episode of Saddle Up! hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing discuss “Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach,” the sixth episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' inaugural season. We explore the important messages in the story about our own complacency in society, the exploitation of children, and the importance of strong father figures. We also discuss the structural flaws in the story, but focus on how the writers transcend these to deliver important and timely commentary. Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach. Brandi and Suzanne are back to talk about this emotionally heavy episode. There's laughing and crying. And some more crying. There's also talk of a pompadour of steel, a Kirk jump/tackle, and be on the look out for a damp Ethan. Seriously if this episode of SNW didn't make you emotional, do you even have a heart?

[Strange New Worlds news and review starts at 16:05] Tony and Laurie start with an update from Paramount studio chief Brian Robbins on the next Star Trek movie, enhanced by Simon Pegg’s “I don’t f-ing know” comment (and enthusiasm for filming the movie) at FedCon in Germany. Then they discuss Marina Sirtis’ report on the great send-off the TNG cast is getting in Picard season 3 (vs. how things went in Star Trek: Nemesis), Prodigy executive producer Aaron Waltke’s explanations about the USS Dauntless, and the imminent return to production of Discovery. They recommend the latest episode of The Shuttle Pod podcast, talk about the 20-pound Enterprise in the room made by TOMY, then cover the latest news on Strange New Worlds, including a guest appearance by Jesse James Keitel, more info on Kirk’s presence in season 2, and the future appearance of Dr. Roger Korby. Then they jump into their review of SNW episode 6, “Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach.” They wrap up with a look at Wrath of Khan ice cream (and other related festivities), and a surprise Star Trek connection between TOS matte artist Albert Whitlock and the great Mel Brooks.
