Let's rapid fire this intro and you'll see what I mean. Fedora Linux 40 is out, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is out, Nextcloud has a new release of Nextcloud Hub and the release notes feel like they never end, the Flathub has released a new design refresh making it even better to use Flatpaks, and we recently had an awesome interview on the Destination Linux podcast that I gotta tell you about and all of this in one episode. I mean there's so much just in the Ubuntu topic that I didn't have time to cover the flavours, I'll tell you about those next week. Yea, this is going to be one of those episodes. Then, we'll switch gears and talk about some exciting upcoming features in Linux Mint 22. Fedora Linux might be getting a whole new look – we'll discuss a proposal to switch the default desktop environment. Flathub is making some changes to make it easier to indentify whether or not a Flatpak is official. Plus there is a new campaign for video game preservation that targets companies effectively breaking their games after an arbitary amount of time. Been a Linux user for a little bit now and I get lots of tips and tricks from you guys. I wanted to share a trick I recently started using to learn commands/tools/stuff. There are so many commands and functions that I would feel overwhelmed learning about them. I came across the apropos command using the -s 1 “” when using that options you will see tons of output and their definitions. This is where your anxiety starts. BUT if you pipe that into the shuf command followed by -n 1 it will output one random command with the brief definition. The full command would be apropos -s 1 “” | shuf -n 1 I then put this in my bashrc start up so when I log into the system it will output one of those random commands. I will then take that one output and make it my mission to know everything I can about it by the end of the day. (if its something I already know, I will run the command until I see something new) Hope someone finds this helpful. Keep marching!"

LINBIT SDS is a software-defined storage, that perfectly fits with Red Hat's OpenShift. It provides persistent volumes, exposed through the CSI interface. You can use it to build out of internal storage devices the persistent volumes for your cloud-native container workload. While it was initially designed for the on-prem data center, it is also a fit for multi-cloud and edge deployments. It is a good fit for IO demanding workloads, like OLTP and OLAP databases, message queuing, and AI.

In this episode of Conversations in the Cloud, Philipp Reisner, CEO of Linbit joins us to discuss Linbit and the work they are doing with open-source software for provisioning, replicating, and managing block storage on Linux systems. Philipp talks about Linstor, a management tool for storage volumes that was launched by Linbit in 2018. Linstor provides persistent Linux block storage for Kubernetes and OpenShift environments. Philipp also explains why Linbit thinks Intel® Rack Scale Design (Intel® RSD) fundamentally changes the way data centers are built, managed, and expanded over time. To learn more about Linbit and the work they are doing with Intel, visit www.linbit.com or follow them on Twitter at https://twitter.com/linbit.
