We discuss Apple's Vision Pro updates, including UI improvements and Apple Intelligence features, debating its commercial viability. We review iOS 18.4 and macOS betas, enhanced DJ integration in Apple Music, and Marty's experience with the iPhone 16e C1 modem. Lighter topics include Apple Car interest rates, T-Mobile's MLB.tv offer, and Apple Music Classical updates. We wrap up by highlighting Apple TV+'s new series “The Studio” and promoting the upcoming Macstock conference in July. The updates promise sharper interfaces and smoother spatial experiences, but we can't help but speculate about those elusive Apple Intelligence features lurking on the horizon. While some are dazzled by the enhancements, others remain unconvinced—sparking a spirited debate over whether Vision Pro can justify its hefty price tag and overcome lukewarm reviews. The question lingers: Can Vision Pro truly redefine spatial computing? Shifting focus, we explore the newest iOS 18.4 and macOS betas, where priority notifications and ambient music control take center stage. Jill tests out the new sketch features, delivering a candid review of their usability and what she hopes to see polished by the final release. Meanwhile, the Apple Music app steps up its game with improved DJ integration, aiming to stake its claim as a heavyweight in the music scene. Marty then takes us on a real-world test drive with the iPhone 16e and its shiny new C1 modem during a conference in Orlando. The connectivity results? Surprising and impressive. We dissect his findings, comparing them to other devices and contemplating what these performance gains mean for Apple's hardware evolution. With WWDC looming on the horizon, we can't help but speculate about the big reveals and potential breakthroughs that could reshape user experiences. Switching gears to lighter fare, we chat about the Apple Car's savings account interest rates and how they stack up against competitors. Nostalgia kicks in when we reminisce about T-Mobile's annual MLB.tv offer, a testament to loyalty perks that keep customers hooked year after year. As we wrap up, we delve into Apple's entertainment ecosystem with updates on Apple Music Classical and the latest Apple TV+ comedy series, “The Studio.” We celebrate Apple's relentless push for innovation across content and subscription services while encouraging listeners to join us at the upcoming Macstock conference this July—a must-attend event for Apple enthusiasts. It's a jam-packed discussion filled with fresh insights, hot takes, and plenty of excitement for what Apple has planned next. Joined by regulars Guy Serle, Chuck Joiner, Jeff Gamet, and Marty Jencius, we interchange thoughts and opinions on the significant advancements and features introduced in Apple's latest hardware. We kick off by discussing iOS 18 and the release candidates for both iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, noting the upcoming launch despite having installed the beta versions. Marty shares insights from his early experience with the beta, describing some subtle changes he's noticed, while others like Jeff voice their skepticism about the beta program, encouraging users to approach beta software cautiously, particularly on primary devices. The conversation transitions into the newly announced iPhone 16 models, with both Guy and Chuck contemplating their upgrade options. Interesting features discussed include the new action button and advanced camera controls that come with the new models, as well as the impressive performance boost from the new A18 chip. As we dive deeper into the iPhone 16 specifications, we explore the pros and cons of the Pro and Pro Max versions, particularly around the stunning new camera technology including improved sensor sizes and capabilities. Our group debates the practicalities and whether enhanced features justify the upgrades, especially contemplating if it's worth moving from existing models like the iPhone 12 or 13. The discussion then shifts to the Apple Watch, where we touch on the Series 10's new design, performance enhancements, and exciting battery improvements. The group reflects on whether Apple should have refreshed the Ultra and SE models or if this is a sign that they're taking a more focused marketing approach. The new Apple Watch's features prompt discussions around personal lifestyle needs and preferences, and how the market has evolved since the Watch's inception. Moving on to other product updates, we discuss the refreshed AirPods 4, talking about the introduction of USB-C and the potential of the new hearing aid functions in the AirPods Pro 2. There's a shared sense of curiosity about how these features could disrupt the hearing aid market. Additionally, the episode highlights some important news surrounding Goldman Sachs' collaboration with Apple regarding the Apple Card, with concerns surrounding their financial viability. The lengthy discussion about Apple Mail also sheds light on its perceived limitations and how even with new features in iOS 18, it might not sway users from better third-party email clients. Finally,Dave now has a Vision Pro and gives his first impressions after 4 days of use. its exciting software updates, generating a tease of curiosity among the group about how this device may shape future interactions and integrations with existing Apple ecosystems. Overall, the episode is filled with insightful conversations and thoughtful reflections on how Apple's recent announcements may influence our tech lives going forward. Schreibt uns! Make sure you click the link in the show notes to learn more about NServiceBus. Show Notes Welcome to The Modern .NET Show! Formerly known as The .NET Core Podcast, we are the go-to podcast for all .NET developers worldwide and I am your host Jamie "GaProgMan" Taylor. In this episode, I spoke with Mark J Price, a software developer and educator with over 20 years of experience. We talked about .NET 8, Blazor, server-side rendering, and more. We also explore the compiler changes in .NET 8 and how they can improve performance and efficiency. Mark also discusses his upcoming trilogy of .NET 8 books, which cater to developers of all levels, from beginners to professionals: What I find when I'm learning something new is even if something has some documentation and it might have a kind of introductory tutorial, they are not always kept up to date and they're not always easy to follow because what tends to happen is the experts who build the platform are then told, oh, just write a tutorial for it. Now they're the experts, but they're not experts at education and so they're not always that great at actually explaining how to get started with something. So that's where my books come in, I feel. I'm an expert at education and I'm an expert because I'm actually not a quick learner. I'm not the quickest, I'm not the brightest, but I do notice the things that trip people up. And so when I first learnt GRPC, I had some misconceptions, I struggled with certain areas, but I notice all of that and I can write it down and so I can write a chapter that I think really helps people get started. —Mark J Price With a focus on providing accurate and up-to-date educational resources, Mark's dedication to the community and continuous improvement shines through in this engaging and informative conversation. Hauleth (Łukasz Jan Niemier) takes us deeper into the Elixir and Erlang loggers. He recently closed a 3.5 year old bug on the ElixirLang Github project by unifying the Elixir logger with the logger that Erlang got in OTP 21. We touch on the history, why it took so long, what we should think of the new logging levels, and what the original goals were that he set out to achieve. We also get an introduction to the new logging filters and handlers along with some peeks into future Erlang logging features that may still be yet to come in Elixir!
