Whilst studying at University in 2012, Co-Founders Lucy Ross and Jamie Bartlett found the university's optical clinic which became an integral source of inspiration for the development for their first spectacle frames. Thanks to the kind support of technical officer Gavin Hill and head lecturer Glyn Walsh, they were gently introduced to the technical and practical aspects of optical frames. Fortunately for them, the on-site optical clinic became a hunting-ground for the mechanical workings of spectacles. During many “pestering sessions” the optical staff and lecturers were kind enough to demonstrate the handling and dispensing of glasses frames. It was a curious endeavour which provided a first-hand understanding of both the design and optical elements of eyewear.Having studied Product Design together, they both had experience in 3D modelling, prototyping and manufacturing processes. After graduating, they swiftly built a small workshop at the bottom of Lucy's garden where they continued to practice and hone their skills. Since then they've invested in numerous machines, tools and components which has allowed them to design and make their own spectacles and sunglasses frames on-site. Banton Framework frames aren't just any old import that came from somewhere else, they come straight from their own hands in Glasgow. In this episode of the MenswearStyle Podcast we sit down and speak to Jamie Bartlett, Co-Founder of Banton Frameworks. Our host Peter Brooker speaks to Jamie about the brand's beginnings during university. The co-founders would break into the university during the summer so they could keep making frames to sell. This then helped them make enough money to buy their own first machine which would enable them to set up their own workshop. They also discuss UK manufacturing, bespoke frames, polarized lenses, popular shapes and biodegradable acetate. When Oliver Bolton ordered 250,000 cans of his new drinks brand without any external market validation what so ever, he probably found himself in a little bit of a rut. Fast forward to today, he has not only made a success of that first business but evolved to create various drinks brands that you may have come across. The particular brand I’m familiar with and enjoy is ‘What A Melon’ which is a brand of watermelon water.  In this conversation, Olly tells us how the idea for ‘What A Melon’ was born, his experience winning the Richard Brandson backed Virgin VOOM crowdfunded campaign which raising £77,000 and what life is now like as a drinks brand owner stocked in most food and drink retailers in the UK. I spoke to Olly at their London HQ surrounded by as much melon merchandise as you could imagine. The walls were melon, the drinks were melon, the carpets were melon there was even a melon bike in the room. “I’ve spent my life always wanting to have my own business” Welcome to another episode of life design diaries where Lucy and I share simplified knowledge to help you live a fulfilling life on your own terms. Andy Jefferies from Dock & Bay tells us his story  of how he struggled to find his business idea, how he eventually found it, and the rapid journey that has now lead him on. This journey includes quitting his corporate career, going travelling and eventually arriving at Dragons Den, which for our American listeners is similar to shark tank. Dock and Bay’s first product was the original quick-dry beach towels and with a polished pitch and beautiful brand, they not only secured Deborah Meaden as a new business partner but the grabbed the attention of the public watching and sold over 6000 units in 48 hours. Camille is a graduate of LA’s iO West Improv school (where alumni include Amy Poehler & Tina Fey), The Gaiety School of Acting, has an honours degree from UCD and completed Play On (a Playwriting programme with Dublin Theatre Festival). Camille is part of a Long-form improv group called Tiny and is also developing her comedy writing for stage and screen.

Imposter Syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon, fraud syndrome or the impostor experience) is a psychosomatic pattern in which people doubt their accomplishments and have a persistent, often internalized fear of being exposed as a "fraud". Analysis paralysis or paralysis by analysis is the state of over-analyzing (or over-thinking) a situation so that a decision or action is never taken, in effect paralyzing the outcome. Both of these are experienced by us (and most people) most days. We dig into the definition of these and discuss some of the methods and rationalisation techniques we have used to overcome them, leading to positive outcomes.
