Das größte Marinemanöver des Jahres gilt auch als Machtdemonstration an den Westen angesichts der schweren Spannungen im Zuge des russischen Angriffskrieges gegen die Ukraine. Russland sieht vor allem die Nato, deren Mitglieder die Ukraine militärisch unterstützen, als Bedrohung.

Die russische Kriegsmarine hält in der Ostsee nach Angaben des Verteidigungsministeriums ein Manöver mit mehr als 30 Schiffen und etwa 6.000 Soldaten ab. Bei der Übung "Ozeanschild 2023" gehe es um die Überprüfung der Bereitschaft der Flotte, Russlands nationale Interessen in der wichtigen Region zu schützen. Neben den Kriegsschiffen seien auch weiter Versorgungseinheiten und Flugzeuge im Einsatz. Wie lange das Manöver dauert, sagte das Ministerium nicht. Russland hatte mit Blick etwa auf die Aufnahme Finnlands in die Nato angekündigt, seine Präsenz im Ostseeraum zu verstärken.

Am Jahrestag des Beginns der russischen Invasion in der Ukraine werden China, Russland und Südafrika ein Marinemanöver abhalten. Warren Louw is a South African freelance illustrator and character designer whose work has graced many print publications including ImagineFX magazine, UDON's Darkstalkers graphic novel and DC's Power Girl comic.Both Ian and Warren were kind enough to share their origin stories which should serve as great inspiration to young creators everywhere.
