Power of X-Men: The Greatest Comic Book Podcast in All of the Multiverse!
We sit down with X-Men Artist Ian Churchill to discuss his legendary stint on Poptopia/Uncanny X-Men, what it was like to work at the X-office during the Morrison and his work on Cable #20 which kicks off Age of Apocalypse!
Ian Churchill is currently a pitcher in the Toronto Blue Jays Organization. He was a former teammates at Santa Barbara City College, who went on to play at the University of Arizona and University of San Diego before being drafted in the 10th round in 2022. Sponsors ProSpec Gloves - Code P2P20 for 20% off! Huega House - Code P2P15 for 15% off! Southpaw Apparel - for my fellow lefties out there!
Jori Negin-Shecter (@JNeginShecter) and Zach Worden (@Worden_Zach) are joined by Toronto Blue Jays pitching prospect Ian Churchill to discuss his start to Spring Training, winning the Northwest League championship with the Vancouver Canadians, his goals for the upcoming season and much more.
In the penultimate episode of the 2023 season, host Tyler Zickel (Vancouver Canadians) chats with fellow broadcasters Chris Valentine (Dunedin Blue Jays) and Gareth Kwok (New Hampshire Fisher Cats) to wrap up the minor league regular campaign. The Nest crew talk about the top bats, arms, and moments this year in the Blue Jays minor league system, including names like Jace Bohrofen, Alan Roden, Josh Kasevich, Mason Fluharty, Adrian Hernandez, Adam Macko, Lazaro Estrada, Kendry Rojas, Ian Churchill, Michael Tirconi, Miguel Hiraldo, and CJ van Eyk. Host Tyler Zickel (Canadians) is joined by the wonderfully mustachioed rookie Chris Valentine (Dunedin Blue Jays) and the reliable veteran Bob Lipman (Fisher Cats) to talk about the state of the Blue Jays minor leagues. Chris nominates Ryan McCarty as the D-Jays' hitter of the month and updates us on Rafael Ohashi's return to form, Alex Amalfi's new curveball, Irv Carter's phenomenal changeup, and tells us that Brandon Barriera is throwing bullpens and is feeling good. Tyler's first-half champion Vancouver Canadians love Ian Churchill both on and off the field, Gabby Martinez needs to work on his two-strike approach, Dasan Brown's bat has warmed up with the weather, and Adam Macko (the return for Teoscar Hernández) had his best start since joining the Toronto organization. Finally, Bob makes his 2023 Around The Nest debut by recapping a heartbreaking 14-inning Fisher Cats loss on a balkoff and he tells us to ignore T.J. Brock's ERA because he has been lights out. We end the show with Bob telling us about Orelvis Martinez's amazing turnaround including improvements to his plate discipline and situational awareness. Learn more about your ad choices. This week Kyle, Matthew and Natalie welcome film critic and podcaster William Bibbiani ("Canceled Too Soon") as he talks about his love of the Step Up franchise. He takes the gang through all five insane films and explains why Step Up is the Fast and the Furious of dance movies. He also talks about the pernicious art of hat theft, why you should always bet on Moose, and the need for a very Step Up wedding. But seriously, these movies are insane. Tim's eldest daughter Lexi loves Supergirl. Supergirl has a popular TV show. It only seemed natural to combine these two things and do a Supergirl TV show episode with Lexi! We dive into the show in general, its characters and memorable episodes, and we specifically talk about the season finale "Better Angels" as a Watching Assignment. We also discuss Superman/Batman #19 by Jeph Loeb and Ian Churchill, and Supergirl #s 9-15 by Joe Kelly and Ian Churchill. This week's episode is brought to you by children with good memories. During the recent (and massively successful) FanCon Comic Convention in Cape Town, we managed to chat to a raft of local and international writers and artists. In this episode, we chat to Ian Churchill and Warren Louw! With over 20 years in the comics business, Ian has worked on a massive number of titles, including the X-Men, Hulk, Supergirl, Teen Titans and the Eisner Award nominated Marineman that Ian created. Warren Louw is a South African freelance illustrator and character designer whose work has graced many print publications including ImagineFX magazine, UDON's Darkstalkers graphic novel and DC's Power Girl comic. Both Ian and Warren were kind enough to share their origin stories which should serve as great inspiration to young creators everywhere.
