With COVID travel restrictions gone, I expect people to revert back to their old ways where January is the biggest travel planning month. I wade into the debate between booking direct with travel providers vs. booking with agents and 3rd-party sites. I see how well my travel tips did during the Southwest cancellation chaos, and then pull out a little more of my conversation with Jeff Cioletti, author of the new book Imbibing for Introverts; this time about how gin is going global with a local twist.Check out this episode's show notes here
Mark Peacock has been a pricing consultant since 2017. Currently, he is the managing director of Price Maker, a company that helps their businesses differentiate themselves from the competition by means of having a smarter pricing. He is also about to release his new book titled “Pricing for Success: The Seven-Step Plan for Winning More Customers at Better Prices” In this episode, Mark talks about what's written in his newest book, “Pricing for Success: The Seven-Step Plan for Winning More Customers at Better Prices”. He shares the fundamental ideas behind the seven steps and gives insightful sample situations in which the seven steps can be applied. Why you have to check out today's podcast: Get a general idea of what's in Mark's new book, Pricing for Success: The Seven-Step Plan for Winning More Customers at Better Prices Learn why it's okay to have multiple pricing models on a single product Find out why it is the best time for you to raise your prices “Take the time to do your pricing strategy properly, and put your prices up because it is the most powerful lever you can use to increase profitable growth.” – Mark Peacock Topics Covered: 01:27 – How Mark got into pricing 02:35 – The reason why Mark wrote his book, “Pricing for Success: The Seven-Step Plan for Winning More Customers at Better Prices” 03:42 – Step 1: Where do you want to go? 06:43 – Step 2: Know what your customers think about you 08:02 – Step 3: Being aware of your competition 11:02 – Step 4: Product 13:13 – Step 5: Pricing 15:45 – Mark Peacock's thoughts on having more than one pricing model for a product 17:17 – Step 6: Proposition 19:21 – Mark Peacock's favorite behavioral economics example 22:47 – Step 7: Profit 24:53 – How Mark would address the issue of credit grabbing among departments in cases of sales improvement 28:59 – Mark's pricing advice 30:09 – Connect with Mark Peacock Key Takeaways: “Pricing, ultimately, is always a subset of business strategy, of your company goals. So, you've got to be clear. You got to know where you want to get to. Otherwise, you'll end up floundering with your pricing.” – Mark Peacock “Product and price are two sides of the same coin. When I buy products for a price, I want to know what I get as a customer and equally as a seller, you need to know everything that's included in your product offering.” – Mark Peacock “Without changing the pricing, you can achieve an effective increase in prices of 4% by changing how you present the prices. And I think this whole question of how we present pricing is just as important as ‘What's the number? What's the strategy?' Because it makes such a difference.” – Mark Peacock “Having a clearly written pricing policy is such an important thing. And I literally say in my book, ‘Write it down'. And it doesn't have to be long, it doesn't have to be complicated.” – Mark Peacock People / Resources Mentioned: Pricing for Success: The Seven-Step Plan for Winning More Customers at Better Prices – https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/pricing-for-success-mark-peacock/1142840523 Selling Value: How to Win More Deals at Higher Prices – https://www.amazon.com/Selling-Value-Deals-Higher-Prices/dp/1737655217 Connect with Mark Peacock: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-peacock-the-pricing-coach/ Email: mark@pricemaker.co.uk Connect with Mark Stiving: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stiving/ Email: mailto:mark@impactpricing.com

Back behind the mic after 3 week of travel in Croatia and Italy. The trip went amazingly well up to the last leg, when United's Newark team couldn't get our bags on our plane. But, I'd stuffed Apple AirTags into our luggage, so we were able to track their movements 'til they got home. That experience and a listener's tweet led to me re-visiting my travel tech stack. We then talk to Jeff Cioletti, author of the new book Imbibing for Introverts, about the art of drinking alone.Check out this episode's show notes here
Alexa's guest today has had a career in the corporate sector lasting 25 years, Mark Peacock is the founder and managing director of Price Maker, a company which helps businesses improve their pricing. If your prices are going up or have a new service to offer and want to know how you should be pricing yourself, Mark is the expert to ask. KEY TAKEAWAYS The standard 7 step methodology that Mark uses with clients is looking at your goals, who your customers are, who your competitors are, your product offering, your price, how you sell it, and what that means for your profitability. People are afraid to raise their prices for a number of reasons, they don't want to upset their customers, they don't know how their competitors will react, and they don't want to scare off potential new business in the future. Start your pricing as high as you dare, you can always go down if you're not attracting any business. Set your own price that works for you before you look at what the competitors are doing. If you're new to singing teaching, remember that your customers aren't just paying for your qualification you've only had for a few months, they're paying for your whole experience. That includes everything you've done in the past, for example performing on stage. Don't just stick to one price or hourly rate, offer your customers choice between different packages. Give them a price for 10 hours and the price for 1, with the 10 hours being better value per hour. Give your customer the highest priced thing first, if you give them the lowest first then they become anchored at that price point. BEST MOMENTS‘The myth I want to dispel is that increasing your prices is a scary thing' ‘Be mindful of your competitors but don't get hung up about them' ‘Ask yourself how much your best customer is willing to pay' EPISODE RESOURCES BAST Training Guest Website: pricemaker.co.uk Social Media: Linked In: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-peacock-the-pricing-coach/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/ThePricingCoach Email Contact: mark@pricemaker.co.uk Relevant Links & Mentions: BAST Blog - Putting a Price on It - The Art of Setting Your Fees: https://www.basttraining.com/putting-a-price-on-it-the-art-of-setting-your-fees/ Pricing Scorecard Quiz: https://mark-kgztnm2l.scoreapp.com/ ABOUT THE GUESTI'm passionate about helping businesses improve their pricing. Mark Peacock is a custom furniture and fine woodworker in North Wales. He builds beautiful furniture and creates an experience for his customers. Mark has a great Youtube channel that shows the building of the work and his direction on the channel is different than most content creators: he's not telling you how to do it. I love the fact that you watch what he's doing and that's it. That means his audience isn't the DIY crowd; it's his customers who ask him to do videos about their commissions a lot of the time. This is a conversation with my friend and fellow podcast host Mark Peacock. Mark is based in Chicago and has been publishing his popular Travel Commons Podcast since 2005. Mark and I both have two obsessions, travel and craft beer, and I have been listening to his show since the very early days. Whilst Mark's podcast is more about the travel than the craft beer, he is deeply knowledgeable about the US craft beer scene in particular, and like me, he is always planning his next exciting craft beer trip. Listen in for a deep dive discussion about how we each plan our Taproom Travel, with lots of anecdotes about some of the more memorable experiences we have had along the way. Mark Peacock is the host of the TravelCommons podcast, one of the longest running travel radio shows on the internet. Mark has been a frequent business traveler for more than 30 years. He travels all over the world for high-tech companies and management consultancies. Mark Peacock’s first TravelCommons podcast was recorded in May 2005 in the bathroom of the Wardman Park Marriott in Washington, DC. Originally, TravelCommons was going to be travel blog, but Mark turned out producing the “Voice of the Traveler” podcast. Ask Mark frequently says, “it is more about the journey than the destination.” Mark has lived all over the United States, and is currently living in Chicago for the third time with his wife and two kids. In this episode of The Millennial Travel Podcast I discuss with Mark Peacock: How Mark started a travel podcast and hosts one of the oldest travel podcasts on the internet. How Mark started TravelCommons podcast in a hotel bathroom in 2005 and what has kept him going. How does Mark get any work done while traveling? Does travel spark creativity? How technology interrupts our ability to chat with the people around us while traveling. Wendy Hayhurst, CEO of the New South Wales Federation of Housing Associations. Debby Blakey, CEO of superannuation fund HESTA. Jamie Muchall, business development manager at Horizon Housing. Produced by Ellie Cooper.
