Today will our second installment talking about pricing and “is profit evil?” I did that for a reason. This is a question that has come up several times. It came up for me in my business. It has come up with guests that I have interviewed on the show. And, it is has come up from people who are working in my industry who have since gone out of business. The fact that they went out of business is a hint as to how important this issue is. By being generous or being nice, rather than pricing their products or services correctly, they are now out of business and not sharing their gifts with the rest of the world. This is not a sustainable way of doing business. We need to be concerned with sustainability, business sustainability. If we use entrepreneurship to support our farming or rural lifestyle and the business fails, then we lose the lifestyle. So, it is important that we price our goods or services in a way that will sustain our business. Otherwise, all of the positive impact we could have had with our agricultural enterprise will no longer exist.
Today we will be talking about pricing and “is profit evil?” I did that for a reason. This is a question that has come up several times. It came up for me in my business. It has come up with guests that I have interviewed on the show. And, it is has come up from people who are working in my industry who have since gone out of business. The fact that they went out of business is a hint as to how important this issue is. By being generous or being nice, rather than pricing their products or services correctly, they are now out of business and not sharing their gifts with the rest of the world. This is not a sustainable way of doing business. We need to be concerned with sustainability, business sustainability. If we use entrepreneurship to support our farming or rural lifestyle and the business fails, then we lose the lifestyle. So, it is important that we price our goods or services in a way that will sustain our business. Otherwise, all of the positive impact we could have had with our agricultural enterprise will no longer exist.

Brigham Young University professor of strategy David Bryce studied give-away strategies across 26 different product markets. On this episode of Talking with the Experts, host Rose Davidson welcomes special guest Joeri Billast, a fractional CMO and web three marketing strategist. Joeri starts by discussing the early adoption of NFTs (non-fungible tokens) in marketing strategies, emphasizing that it can help businesses stand out in the crowded market. NFTs offer a unique and uncopyable way to sell products and services, allowing creators to earn commissions on future resales. Furthermore, NFTs provide a secure method for granting access to events or exclusive content, making them ideal for membership cards, loyalty programs, and certificates to create a sense of pride among customers. Joeri explains that web three is already a reality and can be accessed through specific websites called Depths. Web three includes NFTs, digital collectibles like digital art, membership cards, or access passes minted on the blockchain. What makes NFTs special is that they cannot be copied, guaranteeing their uniqueness and authenticity. Joeri highlights the aspects of authenticity, security, and decentralization that NFTs bring. To enter the web three world, Joeri advises acquiring a digital wallet containing cryptocurrency or minimal funds. Transactions within web three often require gas fees. To incentivise people to adopt digital wallets, Joeri offers a free NFT, obtainable by visiting a website and connecting a wallet or creating an account with an email address. Having a wallet grants access to additional resources, such as survey results. Throughout the episode, Joeri emphasizes the need for education about web three and encourages listeners to familiarize themselves with NFTs by obtaining a wallet. Joeri also mentions real-world examples of companies like Starbucks in the United States and others in Belgium already leveraging NFTs in their marketing without explicitly mentioning them.
