How To Prepare For A No-Deal Brexit There is a lot of media coverage around a No-Deal Brexit. The UK is scheduled to leave the EU on 29 March 2019. If a formal withdrawal treaty has not been signed by this point, all EU rules and regulations will instantly cease to apply to the UK. But what does this mean to businesses across the UK? Does the recent spate of closures, in particular, the motor industry and headquarter moves does it spell the end for growth in the UK. Interestingly figures suggest that the UK will grow more over the next five years than many of its current European partners. So what would be the impact of a No Deal Brexit? Currently, it means there will be no remaining agreements between Britain and the EU on how to manage customs, trade, travel or citizens rights. A no-deal Brexit also means that the transition period from March 2019 to December 2020, would be off the table. Without a bilateral trade deal with the EU, Britain would be subject to World Trade Organization (WTO) rules. UK exports would face the same customs checks and tariffs as other countries outside of the EU. On this programme, we explore the possible consequences of No Deal Brexit and the impact of trade limitations for the UK and EU especially Germany and France which would carry costly implications for the car and agricultural industries. Who is Linda Bazant Linda is a Barrister with a Law and Politics degree and is a member of Gray’s Inn and BACFI. She is also joint founder of Business Connections Live TV. Linda provides Brexit readiness assessments and Data Protection (GDPR) guidance and advice to business. She also offers UK representation for controllers as well as Data Protection Officer Trainer & Speaker services.

ow to Minimise Stress and Increase Productivity On this show, we look at How to Minimise Stress and Increase Productivity. We are all busy. Caught up on the seemingly endless treadmill of emails, work pressures, information overload, constant distractions and the feeling of ‘there’s never enough time’! As a result, we never take the opportunity to consider if there is a different approach we could take that would help us be calmer, more productive and effective. In this show. How to Minimise Stress Without Losing Your Oomph! Sarah Alexander will talk about how to minimise stress and increase productivity and calm confidence from the perspective of understanding our psychology and the functioning of our brain. Who is Sarah Alexander Sarah has been a business adviser, coach, trainer and speaker for 17 years. Typically, Sarah works with Surrey business owners and senior directors of growing and established businesses who are concerned about the pressure or challenge that they, or their team, are under. All of this impacts productivity, staff morale and ultimately, the business bottom line. Formerly, Sarah was a dressage rider running a small equestrian centre for twelve years. During this time, Sarah turned around the failing business and generated a consistently profitable ‘high-end’ concern that thrived through economic recession when other similar businesses were failing. Before selling that business in 2001, she learnt first-hand the tools of visualisation, mindfulness, sports psychology, NLP and other development techniques to achieve her own best performance and inspire that in others. Since then, Sarah has combined these techniques with the latest neuroscience and worked successfully with people on the international stage including entrepreneurs, actors, sports professionals and a winner of the prestigious PGA Golf Championships. She has also taught leadership development programmes for Shell and other multinationals in the UK, Europe and the Far East. Sarah has written many articles for magazines and national newspapers including The Financial Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Daily Mail, The Daily Express and Huffington Post. She has also spoken regularly on the radio. She is the author of Spiritual Intelligence in Leadership and Spiritual Intelligence in Business.

How to Take your Business to Organisational Excellence Even well-established businesses can fail when it comes to Organisational Excellence. They don’t plan to fail, but they often fail to plan. On this edition of Business Connections Live Steve Hyland talks to Linda Bazant about what businesses need to do to make sure that they are compliant for GDPR when it comes into force on 25th May 2018. GDPR what does this mean GDPR tightens up the current Data Protection Act. Due to the exponential growth of the internet and the fact that we are now using data online, in Apps, on mobile phones, tablets, social media and online behavioural advertising data management is vital. (third parties): That your third parties are also GDPR compliant. GDPR will be the new Health & Safety! Responsibility for data protection must be from board level down and all staff must be fully trained and GDPR aware in their daily work routines. GDPR Benefits to the individual GDPR gives Individuals back control over their personal data and how it may be collected and used. They will be made aware of their new rights post May 2018 and any business that is not compliant and commits serious data breaches risks fines of up to to £17 million or 4% of your gross annual turnover, whichever is the greater. Cyber Security and Data Protection On this edition of Business Connections Live Steve Hyland asks Dan May, Commercial Director at the Surrey-based IT firm, ramsac about Cyber Security and Data Protection and how to use IT to ensure that their organisation is efficient, secure and resilient. As organisations have become increasingly dependent on their digital assets, so have criminals become increasingly adept at exploiting weaknesses in IT security. Not a week goes by without cybercrime or data loss making the news headlines, and with the new GDPR regs just around the corner, there’s even more reason than ever before for business owners to be sure that they are taking all reasonable steps to ensure that their vital digital assets are secure, that their ‘human firewall’ (ie. Their employees!) are properly trained, and that there are bulletproof measures in place to provide a resilient fall back position when a cybercrime happens. Dan May is the Commercial Director at the Surrey-based IT firm, ramsac. Dan works with businesses, schools and charities to help them manage their IT needs, supporting and managing IT on a day to day basis as well as making strategic decisions about how to use IT to ensure that their organisation is efficient, secure and resilient. On this edition of Business Connections Live, Dan will explain: The FBI believes there are two types of businesses in the world, those that have been affected by a cybercrime and those that don’t know that they have! Protecting digital data is not just an IT department problem – the human firewall is often the biggest weakness in a business’ front-line defence. Organisations need to invest in the appropriate technical solutions, but staff training and internal processes are just as important in protecting critical data. GDPR preparedness is not just about looking at your marketing processes – data loss through cyber theft could leave organisations vulnerable to significant fines or loss of reputation. Cloud computing does not mean that you’ve necessarily ticked the box for data security or back up – you still need to ensure that you have resilience, a clear idea of where your data resides and how you can recover it if anything goes wrong. Learn the business fundamentals of how your business can achieve: Business leaders should be able to sleep well at night, knowing that their critical data is secure, that their staff know how to keep it safe, and that if there was ever a problem, there is a clear and well-documented process for how to roll back. With some upfront thought and action, organisations can ensure that they are not only GDPR ready, but that they have good protection from fraud, theft or malicious attack. Thinking About The Customer Perspective On this edition of Business Connections Live Steve Hyland asks David Williams the founder and leader of Shuttle why you should be Thinking About The Customer Perspective. Do you know your customers? Who are they? Why do they buy from you? And what’s it like to buy from you? Some of the best new start-ups today are investing heavily in learning about the first-customer persona long before starting on any product development. This is the strategy that helps them win business from established big corporates. Knowing your ideal customer persona is one thing, but what’s it like to buy from you? So it begs the question, do companies try and buy their own products? Do they understand what it’s like to be their own customer? In the way a chef tries her own food before serving, so a bank should try and open an account with itself. David Williams is the founder and leader of Shuttle, a new technology company helping banks to work with new customers. On this edition of Business Connections Live, David will explain: That understanding customer persona is central to success in any business That buying your product from your customers perspective will teach you more about your business than any consultant could ever tell you Every business has two versions of a customer journey; the ‘expected’ journey and the ‘actual’ journey. Learn the business fundamentals on how your business can achieve: Bring products to market much more quickly and effectively when you understand your customers are and what matters to THEM. Happier customers because you’ll help them, their way. You’ll save time, money and energy.
