Charter Communications has announced its acquisition of Cox Communications for $34.5 billion, a significant move that will merge two of the largest internet service providers in the United States. This merger is expected to require approval from the Federal Communications Commission due to Cox's critical operational licenses. The combined entity plans to adopt the Cox Communications name, with Spectrum serving as the consumer-facing brand in areas previously served by Cox. This merger could potentially impact service quality for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that rely on Cox as their provider, especially during the integration phase. In another major development, Proofpoint has revealed its plans to acquire Hornet Security for $1 billion, aiming to enhance its cybersecurity offerings and expand its presence in the cloud security market. Hornet Security specializes in Microsoft 365 solutions and has shown impressive growth, reporting over $160 million in annual recurring revenue. This acquisition may alienate Hornet Security's managed service provider (MSP) partners if there are changes in pricing, support models, or access to services, creating an opportunity for competitors to attract disaffected partners.Arm is rebranding its system-on-a-chip product designs to focus on power savings for artificial intelligence workloads, targeting sectors like automotive and cloud computing. The company reported a significant revenue increase, driven by licensing and royalty revenue. Meanwhile, Box is enhancing its collaboration with Microsoft by introducing an AI agent that integrates with Microsoft 365 Copilot, allowing users to analyze documents and automate tasks more efficiently. These moves reflect the industry's shift towards AI integration and the importance of aligning with existing platforms to deliver value.Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has introduced updates to its Morpheus software and VM Essentials offerings, promising substantial cost savings for businesses in the virtualization market. HPE's new pricing model, based on server sockets rather than cores, aims to provide significant financial advantages, especially as VMware faces scrutiny over its pricing strategies. Additionally, the podcast discusses the challenges posed by shadow AI and the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, emphasizing the need for governance and transparency as organizations increasingly adopt AI tools without formal approval. The episode concludes with a reflection on the implications of AI in education, highlighting the growing use of AI tools by professors and the concerns raised by students regarding the authenticity of their learning experience. In today's episode of Tech Talks Daily, I sit down with Jeff Butler, General Manager of Cask Canada, who shares the story of how he led a tech startup to a standout position in the competitive ServiceNow ecosystem in less than a year. Listen in to learn how Cask Canada grew from startup to standout in the ServiceNow ecosystem by focusing on people, trust, and AI-driven transformation. As we explore Jeff's unique journey from his early days witnessing the birth of Silicon Valley innovation in San Francisco to building a thriving ServiceNow consulting business in Canada, there are lessons here for anyone navigating today's fast-moving tech landscape. Jeff offers a first-hand look at the unexpected realities of launching a consultancy in Canada's evolving digital market. Rather than focusing solely on technology, he highlights the power of building genuine, long-term relationships with clients and team members. Throughout our conversation, it becomes clear that success in tech services today is shaped as much by trust, patience, and authenticity as it is by technical excellence. We also discuss how AI and automation are reshaping ServiceNow-driven digital transformations. Jeff provides valuable insight into how AI is not just enhancing customer service experiences but also beginning to change the way consulting services are delivered. Yet he makes an important point: human oversight remains vital, especially when high-stakes business decisions are involved. Looking ahead, Jeff reflects on the challenges and opportunities that ServiceNow partners face as AI capabilities mature, integration demands grow, and the implementation partner landscape changes. He also shares how building an elite consulting team required a deliberate focus on culture, communication, and finding people who want to build something bigger than themselves.

All non-critical and non-statutorily required work will cease at the General Services Administration's Technology Transformation Services as part of a 50% reduction of the office, according to Director Thomas Shedd. In his prepared remarks for a Thursday afternoon town hall, which were obtained by FedScoop, Shedd said that to deliver technology at GSA in a “more focused and streamlined way,” moving forward TTS will support only work that is required by statute and policy, fits into the Trump administration's definition of critical, and is prioritized by the leadership at GSA “in accordance with the priorities of the administration.” Everything else will be eliminated, per Shedd, who said in his remarks that TTS will be smaller in size – at least 50% smaller. Additionally, any contracts that support the work that falls outside of the established bounds “will be terminated” and any job functions that are deemed non-essential will be cut. The prioritized and remaining TTS programs include Login.gov, FedRAMP, Cloud.gov, statutorily required websites, the Integrated Award Environment, the Office of Regulatory Oversight, the Centers of Excellence, the Presidential Innovation Fellowship Program, the U.S. Digital Corps, operations and other “special projects.” Australian-based software company Atlassian has tapped Matthew Graviss to be its first public sector chief technology officer following his recent departure as the State Department's top data and AI official. Although the role starts a new private sector chapter in Graviss's career, being the first person to establish a newly created position is familiar ground. During his time in the federal government, Graviss was the first-ever chief data officer at both the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. In an interview with FedScoop, Graviss said his role at Atlassian is an extension of that experience in that he'll again be codifying the responsibilities of the job, showing value and solving customer problems. Regardless of whether his role is in or out of the government, Graviss said “the delivery of better goods and services to citizens is contingent upon … an ecosystem of government employees, service providers, and solution providers.” The Daily Scoop Podcast is available every Monday-Friday afternoon. The Trump-Vance transition team and the Biden administration signed a memorandum of understanding last week formally kicking off the process to hand over executive power — though the Trump team has decided not to accept some of the government's available resources, including tech and information security provided by the General Services Administration. The transition team will reportedly run as a “self-sufficient organization” with existing security and information protections already built-in, utilizing private funding, according to the press release from the Trump transition team. That includes not using technology or buildings provided by the General Services Administration as part of the transition resources the agency is authorized and appropriated to provide. The Trump team said it “already has existing security and information protections built in, which means we will not require additional government and bureaucratic oversight.” The Department of Justice's Office of the Inspector General called out the agency's lack of an updated public strategy for artificial intelligence and underscored the need to be proactive in a report on its management and performance challenges last week. The comments came as part of the OIG's determination that maintaining cybersecurity and keeping up with emerging technologies, such as AI, were among the top challenges for the DOJ. For AI specifically, the report underscored how long ago the department's public AI strategy was released. The OIG's office said in the report: “While the Department has made efforts to adapt to the change in the technological landscape, such as hiring the Department's first Chief Science and Technology Advisor and Chief AI Officer, the most recent publicly issued strategy on AI from the Department—which outlines an AI adoption and coordination strategy with DOJ component responsibilities—is from 2020.” The Daily Scoop Podcast is available every Monday-Friday afternoon. When you grow your audience to build your business, you need to manage your leads. It isn't enough to get people to subscribe to your podcast. You need to get them to your email list. GROW YOUR SHOW BY GROWING YOUR LIST When I was first starting out, I hired Cindy as my coach. She was helping me build the infrastructure that would help me grow my business. Cindy is a visibility coach. She helps people get noticed. Just what I needed to grow my audience and business. One day on a call, Cindy suggested I participate in a giveaway to grow my email list. A giveaway is a marketing tactic where a group of experts join together to help each other grow. One expert is the host of the giveaway. This person builds the back end and manages the giveaway. A number of other experts each contribute a free gift. They all then promote the giveaway to their lists. The email recipients opt in for the giveaway, which grows the list of the giveaway host. Then the email recipients decide which gifts they would like, and they opt in for those gifts. This grows the list of the contributor. The better the gift, the better chance an expert has to grow their list. YOUR LIST OR YOUR PODCAST But I wanted to grow my podcast audience, not my list. On the call that day, I told Cindy the same thing. She told me growing the list would grow the audience. Each time you release a new episode, you can email your list and remind them to listen. That was the day I understood the power of the process. If you invite people to your podcast when you are on stage, they may come listen to your show. If they don't come back or subscribe, you have no way to contact them again. But if you invite them to your email list with your lead magnet when you are on stage, you have their name and email address until they unsubscribe. Now you can reach them each time you release a new episode. When I started building my email list, my podcast audience started to grow. Soon, I started to realize I needed to organize the contacts on my email list. That's where a powerful CRM tool comes into play. MANAGE YOUR LEADS ON YOUR LIST There are a variety of CRM tools, or customer relation management tools, available to manage your list. These tools help you manage your interactions with customers, build customer relationships, and grow your business. Many people are surprised when I suggest people on stage don't send people to the podcast. Instead, send them to your email list. When you get people on your email list, you need to keep them organized and manage your leads. This allows you to send relevant information to each segment of your audience while reminding the entire list to listen to the podcast. So, how do you choose a CRM to manage your leads? MANAGE YOUR LEADS WITH RAMESH DEWANGAN I've invited Ramesh Dewangan to join us and help us develop a plan. Ramesh is the Founder and CEO of Quantum Vision Consulting. He brings over 30 years of global experience in software development, product management, and marketing to help entrepreneurs and small businesses achieve rapid growth by implementing innovative business practices and systems. In this episode, we're talking about keeping the spark alive in an M&A deal and strategies for avoiding burnout.Key points discussed in this episode:Deal fatigue is common in M&A transactions due to the numerous decisions and interdependencies involved.Advisors can help buyers and sellers avoid deal fatigue by setting expectations, managing timelines, and providing guidance.Patience is crucial, especially for buyers, as the M&A process can take up to a year to complete.Regular status updates and clear communication among all stakeholders help maintain motivation and engagement.Sellers may feel overwhelmed by the due diligence process, but should focus on responding effectively and keeping the business running.Unscrupulous buyers may attempt to "retrade" the deal at the last minute, which sellers can defend against with the help of advisors.Funding sources and approvals should be secured early in the process to avoid delays and frustration.Buyers who are too slow in decision-making risk losing opportunities to other interested parties.Maintaining a positive attitude and leaning on a strong support network can help both buyers and sellers navigate the M&A process.RELATED EPISODES:Episode 195: Win/Win vs. Win/Lose Dynamics in M&A Negotiations. Cyberattacks against K-12 schools have soared, tripling between 2018 and 2021 and continuing to climb. With many school districts balancing legacy technology, budget restrictions, and limited staff, fighting off cyber threats can be a daunting challenge. This week, Sean speaks with BJ Welsh, Director of Tech Services for the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District. CFBISD comprises 25,000 students and 4,000 staff across dozens of schools and service centers throughout North Texas. They discuss lessons learned about incident response from an attempted breach of CFBISD's Active Directory.LINKS: CISA Cyber Hygiene Services

Learn more about your ad choices. A Huntington Beach, CA native, Sean "Borky" Borkenhagen, is a former professional Supercross and motocross athlete now working full-time with Kawasaki Motor Corporation in Tech Services. Borky is a longtime friend (we grew up riding and racing together), and this conversation was a lot of fun being able to walk down memory lane and hear his journey. We dive into his Huntington Beach, CA roots, his amateur career, winning a Loretta Lynn's championship in the 250 B class circa 2006, earning factory support from American Honda Motor Co., suffering an almost career ending injury shortly thereafter, landing a ride with the Red Bull/TLD/Honda race team, and so much more. Borky maybe one of thee, if not thee kindest soul to ever race Supercross and motocross at the levels he did. And, while he admits he didn't achieve certain goals in his professional racing career, he was able to walk away from racing on his own terms and find a career he loves with the Kawasaki Motor Corporation. The time between getting a financial request and sending the information can be critical.1. It shows that you're organized and prepared. When a company is considering acquiring another business, one of the first things they're going to want to see is that business's financials. Having your financials in order shows that you're organized and that you know what's going on with your money. This can give the acquirer confidence that they're not buying a lemon. 2. It makes due diligence easier.Another reason why it's important to have your financials in order when you're being acquired is that it makes due diligence easier. Due diligence is the process of investigating a potential acquisition target to make sure that it's a good fit for the buyer. If the acquirer can't get a clear picture of your financials, it could scuttle the deal. 3. It can help you get a better price. If you're able to show potential acquirers that your business is in good financial health, you may be able to negotiate a higher price for your business. This is because buyers are often willing to pay more for a business that they perceive as being low-risk. 4. It can make the acquisition process smoother.Having your financials in order can also make the actual acquisition process smoother. This is because there will be less paperwork and red tape to deal with if everything is already in order. This can save everyone involved a lot of time and headaches. 5. It gives you peace of mind. Finally, one of the best reasons to have your financials in order before being acquired is that it can give you peace of mind. Knowing that everything is in its proper place can help you relax and enjoy the ride, secure in the knowledge that you're prepared for whatever comes next 6. It shows you're running a good business that doesn't require a lot of financial clean up or manufactured earnings
Considering a sale is a very personal decision for a business owner. You've spent your life and energy building a business and now you've decided to consider a merger or acquisition. We get it - we've helped hundreds of firms sell and we're sharing what we've learned and what it takes to start a process. 1. What is the current market value of your firm? You'll need to know how much your firm is worth before you can start shopping it around. There are several ways to value a tech-enabled services firm, so you'll want to speak with a financial advisor or business appraiser to get an accurate estimate. 2. What are the potential buyers interested in?When you're selling a tech-enabled services firm, it's important to understand what potential buyers are looking for. Are they interested in the technology itself, the customer base, or the team? Knowing what buyers are interested in will help you package and sell your firm in the most appealing way possible. 3. How much debt does your firm have?If your firm has a lot of debt, it may be difficult to find a buyer who is willing to take on that liability. You may need to restructure your debt or negotiate with creditors in order to make your firm more attractive to potential buyers. 4. What are the terms of your current contracts? If you have any long-term contracts in place, potential buyers will want to know about them. They'll want to know how much revenue the contracts generate and whether there are any early termination clauses that could allow the buyer to get out of the contract if they're not happy with it. 5. What is the expected growth trajectory of your firm?Buyers will want to know whether your firm is growing quickly or slowly, and whether that growth is sustainable. They'll also want to see evidence that your team has a plan in place to continue growing the business. 6. What are the margins like for your products and services?Your potential buyers will want to know how profitable your products and services are. They'll also want to know whether there's room to increase prices or cut costs in order to improve margins. 7. What is your customer churn rate?Your potential buyers will want to know how often customers cancel their subscriptions or stop using your products and services. A high customer churn rate could indicate that there's something wrong with your product or that customers are unhappy with your service levels. 8. Do you have any patents or other intellectual property? If you have any patents or other forms of intellectual property, potential buyers will want to know about them. They'll want to know what rights they would have to use that IP if they were to purchase your firm. 9. What do you want to do post transaction?Sell-in vs Sell out. We have a podcast on this topic, listen here: https://www.revenuerocket.com/podcast/selling-in-vs-selling-out/
