After Sean's conversation with Amory, he and his younger brother, Shane, talk to each other for the first time in two decades. Shane is open to hearing his brother out, until Sean denies a painful memory from their childhood. Their father, who has always defended Sean, starts sending aggressive voice messages to Sophia and Shane. Meanwhile, Amory has even more questions for Sophia just as Shane is coming to his own conclusion that she did not commit the murder. But shortly thereafter, Amory receives a report of an interview Sophia did with detectives in 2010 that tells yet another story of the day of Marlyne's murder. Amory is left shaken and wondering if she actually has been talking to a murderer all this time. *** Consider becoming a "BEYOND" member today: This show is made at WBUR, a public radio station, which means we cannot make shows like this without public support. After profiling lawyer Shane Correia years ago for her podcast, part of his story stuck with host Amory Sivertson. He grew up under the cloud that his sister Sophia had been arrested for murdering her mother-in-law. And it was his brother Sean who said he witnessed Sophia commit the crime. But something about the story bothered Sivertson. Did the six-month pregnant 23-year-old really beat Marlyne Johnson with fireplace tongs just to steal some money? Why does the blood evidence only point to Sean, who was given a deal to testify against his sister? But her own investigation takes several turns, and Sivertson wonders if she'll ever know who's telling the truth. In “Beyond All Repair” from WBUR, Sivertson offers up a classic murder mystery with an enthralling cast of characters. She brings a vibrant narrative style and leaves no stone unturned in her quest to find out who killed Marlyne . The prosecution in Sophia's trial claims greed was her motive for killing Marlyne. Shortly after Sophia and Brad Johnson started dating, Sophia began stealing money from her employer. Sophia explains how the theft started and quickly spiraled out of control. By the time of the murder, Sophia was tens of thousands of dollars in debt, with a baby on the way. Was she desperate enough to commit murder? If you have questions about the case, the people at the center of this story, or anything else about this series, we want to hear them. Sean Correia's credibility is called into question as Sophia Johnson and Shane Correia tell reporter Amory Sivertson about his role in their upbringing. Amory learns how these three siblings ended up in Washington state after being raised in New York, and how Sophia became estranged from Shane and their mother, with whom she'd been incredibly close. Sophia finds a new family in the Johnsons — Brad, her husband, and Marlyne and Richard Johnson, Brad's parents. At the time of the murder, Sophia is newly wedded to Brad and six months pregnant. Marlyne is supposed to go over to Sophia's house for lunch that day. She doesn't show, leading Sophia and Brad to check on her, and, ultimately, to her lifeless, nearly unrecognizable body. Sophia denies murdering Marlyne, but suspects Sean's involvement. As you listen, you will gain insight on how to see your own dreams come to fulfillment. You will greatly enjoy “The Conversion of Marlyne Barrett.” A-list actress, Marlyne Barrett's life had a very rocky start. She was sexually abused at the age of two. Shortly thereafter, when her parents immigrated from Haiti to the U.S., she was sent to Quebec, Canada to live with relatives. She remembers a constant feeling of a dark presence seeking to rob her of her purity. Confused, depressed and filled with rage, she eventually tried to commit suicide, albeit unsuccessfully. The only comfort Marlyne had was going to the Catholic Church every week with her grandmother. Here she would cry out to God and feel His comfort. Still life was hard, and she often felt the dark presence leading her astray. One day in her teens, on a Greyhound bus trip home, Marlyne finally cried out: “If you are real, Jesus, I need you now!” Immediately, she had a vision of Jesus outside the bus in the trees. From that moment on, Marlyne was determined to find God. In due course, she ended up at a Catch the Fire church in Montreal. When she told the pastor that she had been acting from a young age, long before she was a Christian, he immediately said, “OK, here is your first acting assignment as a Christian: Do a monologue from the Book of Esther.” After that, however, she completely dropped all involvement in the entertainment industry for years, until she heard the Lord clearly speak to her that HE was sending her to HOLLYWOOD! She tested the Word with her pastor and then applied to go to school. She went on to study at great schools and through a lot of hard work and the grace of God, she became an A-list actress! Marlyne has great insight how to make an impact and to how to see all your dreams come to true!

+++ Thème musical du Blitz : Shake what you got © Éric Demers https://soundcloud.com/lujareth/shake-what-you-got Merci Éric! Actress Marlyne Barrett from Chicago Med shares about her faith and career and how God is working in both.
We are continually thinking about what we can do to get paid more, who we should talk to to get that promotion, what project we should start to get noticed by the right people. For this week’s guest, breaking out of that one-track mindset was the best decision she could have made. Marlyne Pierce is a product and profitability strategist, the founder and host of the Modern Mogul website and podcast, a mother, and a certified yoga instructor. She has been fueled by a ferocious drive to succeed since she was young, and that drive has led her to share her experiences with the world through her podcast. Marlyne combines yogi values with business practices, looks at every problem with a new set of eyes, and refuses to be labeled by anyone. Marlyne immigrated to the United States from Jamaica when she was a teenager. After working her way through high school and college (she graduated Summa Cum Laude, of course), Marlyne began to work in the corporate world, where she quickly learned that there were many lessons that school didn’t teach her. After years of fighting to get ahead, she eventually burned out and went to California to become a yoga instructor. She learned that to succeed; she needed to remember not to sacrifice who she was. Join us for an honest conversation about ambition, learning from experience, and standing up for yourself and your values. Marlyne will share her journey from a burned-out corporate strategist to a balanced, happy woman well on her way to becoming a modern mogul. Marlyne will also recommend: 2 apps to help you organize your life 4 people to follow to learn more about female empowerment, self-development, and business 1 book to read to give you the courage to change your perspective and reach your potential Join us at www.girlskill.com/66 P.
