What does it take to triple a nonprofit's operating budget, raise $3.3 million for a capital campaign, complete a $10 million dollar facility renovation, AND expand to three campuses, all in just six years? Hope Pavich, Executive Director of Care for Friends, joins me to share how she did exactly that. In this episode, you'll hear how Hope's team identified service gaps to build an innovative grocery delivery program for unhoused youth that now reaches 30 of Chicago's 50 wards, and why funders jumped to support it. Plus, how an unexpected construction delay funneled into a long-term partnership with the Church of the Atonement, and why focusing on shared values over speed can create sustainable, scalable growth.Hope is no stranger to strategic growth and mission aligned innovation. She also shares her process for crafting clear, funder-friendly storytelling, along with real-world examples on collaboration and leading through uncertainty.Resources & LinksLearn more about Care for Friends, their programs, and how to donate.Check out The Big Leap: Conquer Your Hidden Fear and Take Life to the Next Level. This show is brought to you by GivingTuesday! How can we shift our thinking in order to break a pattern? And how can we take positive action to make transformative changes in our lives? That's the focus of Scott Miller's new book, “Master Mentors Vol. 2.” It examines key insights from 30 of the world's most transformational leadership thinkers – including Seth Godin, Susan Cain, General Stanley McChrystal and more – and provides simple steps to implement the same insights in your own life. In today's episode, Scott joins me to talk about the most valuable lessons he's learned from his own mentor, the concept of transformational insight, the subtle nuances between self-worth, self-esteem and self-confidence, why vulnerability is a key element of leadership, and more. “I think the power of transformation has the power for you to see yourself differently. It has the power for you to challenge your paradigm, your mindset, your belief system, to say, gosh, I always thought about gratitude in this way, but now I'm gonna think about gratitude in this way. Or I thought about what's next for me or my business model. They're personal and professional. I think it's really intended to help kind of shake you to say you've been in this pattern of thinking this line of behavior and just shaking a little bit to say, is that serving you well? Is that serving those around you?” – Scott (06:03) Top 3 Takeaways A mentor can be anyone. “I don't think you have to know or be in an intimate relationship, professional relationship with your mentor at all,” Scott says. It doesn't matter that you can't meet with them for one-on-one guidance; a mentor is anyone who helps you understand how to improve your life, and in the age of podcasts and YouTube, you can get that wisdom in a variety of ways. Try to assume positive intent. Everybody makes mistakes, and sometimes even the most well-intended words come out wrong. A person's words say more about them than they do about you. Self-worth is inherent and unchanging. “Self-esteem and your self-confidence ebbs and flows based on your sense of self and the kind of relationships you're in and the things that you do that you value or don't value,” Scott says. “But your self-worth cannot be changed and no one else can change it.” In This Episode (01:13) Why you don't need to meet your mentor to benefit from their wisdom (05:21) Scott's definition of a transformational insight (07:14) The practical applications of insights, and using them to transform your life (11:30) Bobby Herrera's life-changing bus ride (22:50) Self-worth vs self-esteem vs self-confidence (31:51) “Your future truth should be your present.” (36:03) BJ Fogg and the power of tiny pattern-breaking habits Resources & Links Billy Samoa https://billysamoa.com/ https://www.facebook.com/BillySamoaSaleebey/ https://twitter.com/BillySamoa https://www.instagram.com/billybelieve/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCjQ9RSxYqDS4_VxBHNyQJw https://www.linkedin.com/in/billysamoa/ https://billysamoa.com/podcast-archive/ https://billysamoa.com/video-carousel/ https://billysamoa.com/blog-with-sidebar/ Scott Miller https://www.scottjeffreymiller.com/ https://www.facebook.com/scottmillerj1 https://twitter.com/scottmillerj1 https://www.instagram.com/scottjeffreymiller/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/scottmillerj1/ Mentioned https://tinyhabits.com/book/ https://bobby-herrera.com/ https://www.franklincovey.com/speakers-bureau/sean-covey/ This is an encore episode and was originally published on August 26, 2022 Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode of “Mindful Mystics,” Chuckie G, Karen, and Cheryl dive into spirit guides and angels — how they show up, how to listen, and why surrendering control can open the door to real guidance. From life-saving “wait” moments to quantum-mystical frameworks, we share stories, practices, and simple daily ways to connect. Brought to you by Paranormal Underground Radio Episode Date: 9.25.2025 Hosts: Karen Frazier, Chuckie G, and Cheryl Knight-Wilson Check out our hosts online at: Paranormal Underground magazine: https://paranormalunderground.net/ Author and psychic medium Karen Frazier: https://www.authorkarenfrazier.com/#/ Paranormal Investigator and psychic medium Chuckie G: https://chuckieg.net/ Show Highlights: [01:44] What Are Spirit Guides (to Chuck)? Guides as completed souls showing up as ancestors, angels, or animal spirits — nudging through intuition, dreams, and “inner knowing.” [03:05] Different Guides for Different Needs Chuck explains how distinct guides step in for knowledge, comfort, and even during card readings (hello, jump cards). [04:10] Karen's Take: Life as Ongoing Guidance From the George Collective to channeling at 3:33 a.m., Karen views books, classes, and this podcast as “through me, not from me.” [05:48] How Guidance Feels Karen's rule of thumb: light, calm, and “right” = guidance; heavy, tense, and forced = mind overriding intuition. [09:27] Cheryl's Journey from Control to Connection Ignoring obvious nudges, then recognizing direct guide interventions over the last 5–10 years — voices, OBEs, and life-saving moments. [13:00] The “Wait” That Saves Both Chuck and Cheryl recount hearing a clear inner “wait” at intersections — averting serious accidents. [15:31] Why Are Some People ‘Not Saved'? Possibilities: timing, not listening, or outcomes serving a greater good; Karen briefly touches on timeline hopping. [17:45] Angel Wings & a 360 on a Rain-Slick Bridge Karen's pre-event reassurance (“You'll be OK”), a highway spin, a safe landing — and replacing bald tires after. [24:16] A Framework: The Field & Entanglement Karen references Lynne McTaggart's The Field, describing reality as vibrating energy and guidance as information flowing through Source/quantum entanglement. [27:33] Openness Matters Why skeptical, closed energy muddies readings—and how openness sharpens clarity and flow. [30:10] Say What You Get (Even If It's Weird) Karen's early lesson: Deliver the exact phrasing that comes through—the “porn-stache” validation story. [32:18] Practical How-Tos: Meet Your Guides Meditation, asking plainly, journaling impressions, and staying open to “non-movie” signs (songs, numbers, random comments). [35:57] Why Dream Work Works Your defenses are down—dreams are a prime channel. Cheryl's “ask before sleep” experiment delivers names and a hello. [39:44] Guided Meditations Karen points to free meditations on her site (including guide/Reiki guide journeys and an activation from the George Collective). [40:38] The Big Reminder: Allow, Don't Control Let the experience happen; reflect later. Guidance lands when we stop forcing outcomes. Resources Mentioned: The Field: The Quest for the Secret Force of the Universe by Lynne McTaggart (guidance as information in an energetic “field”). Guided meditations from Karen (guide/angel journeys, sound healing, activations). Try-It-Now Practices: Before sleep: Ask your guides to visit and share a name; journal upon waking. Mini-meditation (5 minutes): Follow your breath, invite your guide, and notice the first name/image/feeling — don't judge, just record. Daytime openness: Watch for “light” feelings, meaningful lyrics, repeating numbers, sudden delays, or a stranger's perfect comment.

Life can get pretty heavy sometimes, can't it? One thing after another starts piling up—bad things, good things, and everything in between. It can feel like you're juggling a million different things, and your mind is just running on overdrive. Eventually, something's got to give, and things start to drop. When that happens, your mental health can take a hit, and your quality of life can suffer. That's why it's so important not to take life too seriously. Don't be too hard on yourself. Sure, situations can get overwhelming, but remember to take things with a grain of salt. Keep pushing forward and try to stay optimistic. Life has its ups and downs, but keeping a light-hearted attitude can make a world of difference. It helps you bounce back quicker and keeps you grounded. So, laugh at the little things, don't sweat the small stuff, and remember that it's all part of the journey. We love you all so much!

Joining us today on the podcast is Lead Pastor of National Community Church located on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., as well as New York Times bestselling author of 24 books, Mark Batterson. In today's conversation we will unpack Mark's newest book entitled, “A Million Little Miracles: Rediscover the God who is Bigger than Big, Closer than Close, and Gooder than Good” to help remind you of the millions of miracles God performs everyday and inspire you to live with a clearer sense of identity and purpose. Mark puts it this way, “Think you've never experienced a miracle? With all due respect, you have never not. In fact, you are one!”There never has been—and there never will be—anyone else like you. That isn't a testament to you. It's a testament to the God who created you. Your fingerprint, eyeprint, and voiceprint are unlike anyone else's. Simply put, you matter to God. However, most of us take everyday miracles for granted, including the one that stares back at us in the mirror. It's time to take them for gratitude. Why is that so important? Because whatever you don't turn into praise turns into pride. The miracle of life becomes mundane. We get so wrapped up in our own little world, we end up worshipping a god who looks like us, acts like us, and thinks like us. It's no wonder we've lost our wonder. But there is a way to recapture holy curiosity! In today's conversation as well as littered throughout the book, A Million Little Miracles, Mark reveals three miraculous truths that awaken us to carpe wonder for the Creator and His creation: 1. God Is Bigger Than We Think—we can rest in His wisdom and strength 2. God Is Closer Than We Realize—we never have to do life alone 3. God Is Better Than We Imagine—we can reclaim our childlike wonder My friends, a million little miracles are waiting to be discovered, including the miracle called you. Are you an accidental business owner? Has your business grown faster than you expected? With growth comes mindset challenges, like self-sabotage and imposter syndrome, that can limit both success and impact. In this episode we cover concepts and tools to help you shift your mindset and set inspiring goals and navigate common barriers we all experience on our growth journey including: Growth Mindset Future Self Visioning Breaking Through Upper Limits The RESET Framework Resources mentioned in the episode:
When was the last time you felt grateful just to breathe? Or to hear your favorite song? We are often there – hustling, wanting more, chasing the next big achievement, and thinking, "I'll be happy when..." But that mindset actually keeps us stuck in a cycle of dissatisfaction. I know what I'm talking about because I used to be that person. I always wanted more, always felt like something was missing. But then I started to shift my focus to what I already had. I mean, we have so much we take for granted – fingers that can type, eyes that can see, the technology to connect with loved ones miles away. The simple things we never stop to appreciate. Don't get me wrong – it's not that our goals don't matter. They do. But we get so used to the good stuff we already have that we forget to even notice it. That's why we end up feeling numb, restless, and always reaching for something else. In fact, we're usually overcomplicating things. The truth is simple: if all you're looking at is what's lacking, you're going to miss the magic of what's right in front of you. In this episode, I talk about why gratitude isn't just a nice idea, but the key to a fulfilled life. It isn't out of reach – it's within you. So, if you're tired of feeling like enough is never enough, join me and start seeing life in a whole new way. Tune in now! Key Takeaways: Intro (00:00) Unlock Your Greatness in London (00:28) Importance of surrounding yourself with positive energy (03:35) Don't take technology for granted (05:44) Persistence + Patience = Success (09:24) Focus on what works, not just what's lacking (12:21) Learn to enjoy your own company (17:15) The power of in-person events for deep transformation (20:14) Additional Resources:
