When it comes to designing and building the new Williams and Mercedes Formula 1 cars for the looming 2024 season, there is precision and, most importantly, there is a plan. There has to be because all 10 teams are facing their first winter shutdown - a new ruling by the sport's governing body, the FIA. But things don't always go to plan - and the teams face a race against the clock to finish key bits of the car build before the Christmas holidays. Holly Samos and journalist Sarah Holt are going behind the scenes at two of the biggest names in F1, to the heart of their mammoth operationsOne of the first hurdles for the teams to clear are the FIA crash tests. This series of tests is designed to ensure the safety of the sport, and crucially the drivers. However, for the teams they present one of their biggest challenges in the car build. At the Mercedes factory in Brackley they are waiting anxiously for news from the sport's crash-testing facility at Cranfield University. For the all-important drivers and team principals - the faces of Formula 1 - the winter is a chance to step back from the spotlight. For Williams star Alex Albon this is a time to reconnect with family while Lewis Hamilton has some thinking to do on his Christmas break in the U.S.There are also holiday plans on the horizon for team principals Toto Wolff and James Vowles but the responsibility for the workforce back at base is never far from their minds. At Williams, Vowles knows his factory at Grove is preparing to dig deep - but what will he find when his workforce gets back to work in the new year?F1: Back at Base is an IMG Production for the BBC Narrated by Joseph Fiennes Co-hosts & Executive Producers are Holly Samos and Sarah Holt The Producers are Alasdair Cresswell, Joe Aldridge and Jack Winstanley. The Williams and Mercedes Formula 1 teams have given us unprecedented access to their top-secret facilities as they work over the winter preparing their cars for the 2024 season. At Mercedes, the team's superstar driver Lewis Hamilton is going into a restricted area to see how that crucial work is coming along. We follow in his footsteps as F1 experts Holly Samos and Sarah Holt get a VIP tour of one of the most important tools when it comes to designing and building the most complex race cars in the world. From his position at the very top, Mercedes team principal and CEO Toto Wolff is reflecting on how the team lost ground when major new technical regulations on car design came in for the 2022 season. At Williams, new team principal James Vowles is welcoming his first major hire - as they plot a return to the front of the grid for the nine-time World Champions. The duo are part of a crack team back at base who have been getting to grips with the 2024 car since last March. At both teams, the drivers also have their wish-list for the new cars. Alex Albon knows what avenue he wants Williams to go down and there is one person Hamilton has on speed dial when it comes to car design. The cars that will be driven by Albon, Hamilton & co during the 2024 season are being built by 1000s of people. It's time for them to get to work - as the race to the 2024 season picks up pace.F1: Back at Base is an IMG Production for the BBC Narrated by Joseph Fiennes Co-hosts & Executive Producers are Holly Samos and Sarah Holt The Producers are Alasdair Cresswell, Joe Aldridge and Jack Winstanley. Few people know more about ultra-high-performance engine building than this week's guest, Terry Radbourne of Bourne HPP. In this episode, we're going to be discussing topics like creating engines for LMP1 and Mercedes' F1 team, truly getting the absolute most out of Honda's K series motor, as well as the odd controversial opinion that's sure to get the comment section fired up.Use “BOURNEHPP100” to get $100 OFF our HPA Engine Building package:https://hpcdmy.co/enginepackagebTerry brings an intriguing mix of expertise and insider knowledge — straight out of school, he found himself working for Advanced Engine Research and quickly became involved in some seriously high-end race engine design and building work. After a few years spent honing his craft — including a stint creating engines for the Mercedes Formula 1 team, Terry went on to found his own company, Bourne High Performance Powertrains, or Bourne HPP for short.Bourne HPP specialises in designing and building seriously aggressive motors — most commonly of the Honda K-series variety in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms. This allows us to dive very deep into the intricacies of four-cylinder engine building, and time is spent discussing intake port design, cylinder sleeves, compression ratio, and a whole lot more.We also get stuck into the K-series motor itself, and Terry spends time talking us through exactly why he thinks this is one of the best engines ever produced and how to get the most out of it. As Bourne HPP is something of a one-stop-shop that does everything from engine rebuilds, to NA and turbocharged crate engine packages, to dyno tuning with the use of Syvecs and Lyfe Racing ECUs, Terry has an absolute oversupply of knowledge that he's (mostly) willing to share. If you want to get smarter, this episode with Terry Radbourne of Bourne HPP is not to be missed. As mentioned in the podcast, you can listen to our episode featuring Syvec's Ryan Griffiths here: https://hpcdmy.co/SyvecsFollow Bourne HPP here:IG: @bourne_hppFB: Bourne HPPWWW: bournehpp.comDon't forget, you can use “BOURNEHPP100” to get $100 OFF our HPA Engine Building package:https://hpcdmy.co/enginepackageb

In this episode, we dive deep into the incredible impact that a simple 5-minute routine can have on your business. We explore the often-underestimated power of routines and how they can be the key to your success. Here are the key takeaways: 1. The Morning Routine: We emphasize the importance of starting your day with a clear focus on your three most critical tasks. This brief exercise sets the tone for your day, ensuring you tackle the most important business goals. 2. The End-of-Day Wrap: Before you finish your workday, we recommend taking 5-10 minutes to review your morning goals. Did you accomplish what you set out to do? This reflection helps you stay on track, learn from your day, and prepare for tomorrow. 3. External Accountability: We discuss the benefits of making your routine public. Sharing your intentions and end-of-day reports with colleagues, coaches, or accountability partners enhances your focus, accountability, and follow-through. 4. Continuous Improvement: Even as you achieve success, the routine should remain a consistent part of your life. It keeps you forward-focused, engaged, energized, and enjoying every moment to the fullest. Missing a day is okay; just get back on track the next day. 5. Leadership and Team Performance: As a leader, your routine sets the standard for your team. It's essential to demonstrate consistency and commitment, as your team's performance often mirrors your own. 6. The Paradox of Freedom: Routine and freedom go hand in hand. To enjoy true freedom, you need a sustainable routine that keeps you focused and productive. 7. Setting the Bar: Your team's performance is closely tied to their perception of you. Consistency and congruency in your routine send a clear message and inspire your team to excel. 8. The Importance of Culture: Building a culture of excellence starts with you. Challenge your team to adopt your culture and standards, just as Toto Wolff does with the Mercedes Formula 1 team.   P.S. Toto Wolff is CEO and Team Principal of the Mercedes Formula 1 motor racing team. He has led the team to an unprecedented seven consecutive drivers' championships – six with Lewis Hamilton - and eight consecutive constructors' championships. He is the most successful manager in Formula 1 history, and arguably one of the most successful managers in any sport. Toto was born Torger Wolff in Vienna. When he was eight his father was diagnosed with a brain tumour and died when Toto was 15. Toto found himself looking after his mother and sister from a young age which he believes contributed to the strength of character he developed as an adult. Toto's original ambition in motorsport was to be a driver, and he started competing in his late teens. Following the deaths of drivers Ayrton Senna and then Roland Ratzenberger, his sponsor withdrew support, which forced him to give up his dream. He turned his attention to business and made a fortune as an entrepreneur. In 2009 he bought a stake in the Williams Formula 1 team and four years later bought a 30% stake in the Mercedes team. Toto is married to the former racing driver Susie Stoddart and they divide their time between the UK and Monaco. Their six-year-old son Jack is already showing an interest in karting. I can't believe the shock at Team New Zealand's departure for Barcelona. It's not our team. It's Grant Dalton's. Oracle was never America's team. It was Larry Ellison's. That's why they ended out defending it in Bermuda, a British territory. Prada is not Italy's side it's Patrizio Bertelli's. And Ineos Team UK is not the British team. It's Sir Jim Ratcliffe's team. How long have critics complained that it's a rich man's sport? That's because it is. Take Jim Ratcliffe. The man's worth 18 billion dollars. He has a global brand that needs promoting and considering it's based on petrol and chemicals it's a hard one to promote. So, he owns a Tour De France team, he sponsors the Mercedes Formula 1 team and football teams in France and Switzerland. He even sponsors the All Blacks. You'll see Ineos on the ABs shorts for the next 6 years. This is the guy who when he learnt that Land Rover would no longer build the Defender decided to build his own, the INEOs Grenadier. He's loaded and he'll stop at nothing. And here's little old Team New Zealand. Who managed to bring a nation and a handful of corporate sponsors with them to fund the challenges and defences and what a glorious ride. But for the next event, Team New Zealand needs every cent it can get. The boat design is no longer a surprise and the billionaires are frustrated and they'll spend anything. Dalton has been honest about this all along. The government and Council's offer was inflated by including urban infrastructure but at the end of the day there was just not enough cash to fund a very expensive sport. And there was never going to be because the government knows that a large part of the population resents the fact that it's a rich man's sport and has no desire to see taxpayer money thrown at it at all. It's short sighted and petty but it is what it is. All we needed to do was find our own crazy rich person to throw cash at the thing. I would much rather win than lose horrifically at home.

First things first, get well soon wishes to Lewis Hamilton. We always wanted to see George Russell in a Mercedes Formula 1 car but not in the manner in which it has happened for the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix. In this Pits to Podium (https://bit.ly/pitstopodium) segment, Soumil and Kunal discuss what to actually expect in a RUS vs. BOT battle this weekend. Could George Russell actually score a win on his Mercedes debut? Let's remember, Max Verstappen did so when he received a mid-season promotion from Toro Rosso to Red Bull Racing. Either way, could RUS go from being points-less in his career till date to scoring a podium? Will the simpler track layout help RUS settle down faster in the Mercedes setup? How will the super-fast low-drag nature of the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix impact the podium predictions and the fight for P3 in the Constructors' Championship? Renault and Racing Point have fared well in the low-drag configuration as have Alpha Tauri - let's see if Ferrari and Mclaren are in the mix, too. And of course, Pietro Fittipaldi gets lucky with his break with Haas - we discuss the story to his replacing Romain Grosjean AND a welcome to Formula 1 for Jack Aitken as well. Tune in! What if I told you that the industry average is 15-50 bugs per 1000 lines of code? You may not care if you’re creating a Word doc. What if you are in charge of launching the latest SpaceX rocket? What if you are Lewis Hamilton driving for Mercedes Formula 1 and a software glitchcauses you to lose a 3 second lead at the Australian Grand Prix? What if you are a general in charge of military forces using tools that include the same software I can buy on Amazon or Ali Baba? With so much of our world now driven by software, everything is on the line: money, property, lives. Perfection is never going to be an option, but it is fair to say that we need to be as close to perfect as possible No small feat… and no pressure on folks like today’s guest Katie Moussouris joins Matt Stephenson on the InSecurity podcast to talk about bugs and bug bounties and the impact they can have on security and privacy. Katie is an industry legend perhaps best known for creating Microsoft’s first Bug Bountyprogram in 2013.
