It's time for The Truth! There's been a lot of noise around Kylian Mbappé this season, after his dream move to Real Madrid - mooted for so many years - was finally completed in the summer. But things haven't completely gone to plan for the man that many see as the best player in the world. Playing through the middle because Vinicius Jr. plays off his preferred left hand flank, it hasn't been the smoothest of transitions into Los Blancos for the France Captain, but recently things have taken a turn for the better. However, questions remain. Can Vini Jr. and Mbappé strike up an understanding that would surely take the world by storm? Will the Frenchman finally accept playing through the middle, after previously stating he didn't like it there? Were the early struggles just teething problems? And how do you get the 'Big Three' of Vini, Mbappé & Jude Bellingham into the same lineup and playing to all their strengths? The Truth is somewhere in the middle... And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?

Spain bounced back from their Serbian stalemate in the best possible fashion on Sunday night. Matt Clark (@MattClark_08) and Paco Polit (@pacopolitENG) unite to discuss the international break at length.Luis de la Fuente's side produced a superb all-round performance to beat Switzerland 4-1 in Geneva, despite playing for over an hour with ten men.Spain raced out of the blocks, with Joselu quickly reminding everyone that he can still provide the answer as Spain's number 9. Lamine Yamal produced yet another goal contribution, leading Paco to make a bold prediction for his season's total output, while comparing him to a certain former Barça player...Fabián continued his fine form with Spain's second inside the first quarter of an hour. Robin Le Normand's dismissal (harsh, but we are biased) changed the picture, and the hosts pulled one back before the break.Spain suffered in the second half, finishing with their lowest possession ever recorded. But they were clinical when they did have the ball: Ferran Torres showed his shark-like killer instincts in the pouring rain as he produced an assist and a goal to seal the victory. We also discuss the Segunda weekend, including Paco's trip to Elda on Sunday night. It's been 9 months since we last did a podcast and a lot has happened! A 15th UCL title, a 36th LaLiga title, and a recent UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta. Toni Kroos, Joselu, and Nacho have said farewell to the club and Kylian Mbappé has FINALLY arrived. A new season is upon us, both for Real Madrid and for the Y Nada Mas podcast. We're back and what a time to come back. In this episode, we discuss Real Madrid's draw with Mallorca. A disappointing start considering all eyes were on Real Madrid since it was Kylian Mbappé's debut. However, it's much to early to draw any conclusions from this game or begin calling for anyone's head. The team will need to find a formation that works, figure out who will fill the giant gap in midfield left by the legendary Toni Kroos, and continue to build chemistry with our newest marquee signing. With a little fine tuning, Real Madrid will no doubt continue to be the favorite to defend their LaLiga title as well as compete in all competitions. Spain triumphed over the hosts to reach the final four of Euro 2024, where they will face France in a heavyweight semi-final.Matt Clark (@MattClark_08) and Ben Sully (@SullyBen) reflect on the dramatic 120 minutes of action in Stuttgart, before looking ahead to the French clash.Joselu said in the build-up they wanted to retire Toni Kroos, but it was actually Pedri who was forced to leave the field early, courtesy of a bad challenge from Kroos himself. In an ill-tempered first half, Robin Le Normand saw himself suspended for the semis against the country of his birth.Dani Olmo broke the deadlock early in the second half, thanks to yet another assist from the prodigious Lamine Yamal. Luis de la Fuente took both wingers off, a gamble that almost backfired when Florian Wirtz equalised late in the game.Extra time ticked by and it looked like penalties awaited, but up stepped Olmo to cross for fellow sub Mikel Merino to head home, reminiscent of Carles Puyol's momentous testazo in Durban in 2010.Despite the dramatic chaos of the moment, Merino had the presence of mind to replicate a celebration performed by his father in the same stadium 33 years ago. A precious moment for him and all Spanish fans. We include the fabulous commentary from Antonio Muelas Aberasturi from Radio Nacional de España.In Part Two we look ahead to the semis, talking Kylian Mbappé and the other strong LaLiga links in the French team, and Didier Deschamps' blasé attitude to his critics. We applaud the powerful political statements made by many of the French players, in contrast to Unai Simon's recent dead-batting of similar questions. Can't wait for the semis?
Spain eventually cruised past Georgia to book their place in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024. They were given a scare, but won their first knockout match in 90 minutes since the Euro 2012 final.Matt Clark (@MattClark_08) and Paco Polit (@pacopolitENG) reflect on this big win and look ahead to a mouthwatering clash with the hosts Germany. There is praise for Rodri, Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams and Robin Le Normand and of course consolation for Giorgi Mamardashvili. Ahead of the clash with Germany, Paco is nervous after Joselu's comments in the press conference, but believes Spain can end the 'curse of the hosts'.Keep across all of our coverage at lllonline.substack.com. Morata or Joselu, quite the dilemma to have. Throw in no Ramos and a few other old timers, this is a VERY young Spain side. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Hello Rank Squad! Champions League Takeaway is back to take a look at the second legs of the UCL semi-finals, where we saw Real Madrid beat Bayern Munich 2-1 and Borussia Dortmund win 1-0 in Paris to set up a clash of Yellow and White in London next month! We start with Wednesday's action, with Real Madrid's late, late show yet again to beat out Bayern and send the Bernabeu wild. Dean waxes lyrical about the never-say-die spirit of both the fanbase and this team, whilst Jack pours out some love for Joselu and questions some weird substitutions from Thomas Tuchel that seemed to put his team on the back foot in the closing stages. Then in Part Two, we take a look at Tuesday – where Borussia Dortmund booked their place in the final with a backs-to-the-wall 1-0 win over PSG in Paris. Dean questions whether PSG will ever win this competition, given the roster of stars that have rotated through the French capital and failed, and Jack is impressed with the way that Borussia Dortmund earned their luck, and also a little bit disappointed with how Luis Enrique managed the game from a PSG perspective in the closing stages. We finish with a little discussion about Kylian Mbappé and how his impending departure might have affected the club as a whole this season, as well as what the future might look like without him in Paris. It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
