For a while out there it looked as though Charles Leclerc and Ferrari would spoil the day of McLaren-Mercedes. As the wind blew from the west, rather than the east, Leclerc had taken the pole in the closing seconds of Q3. And, from the start, he appeared to be in control: Oscar Piastri sat in his mirrors but Lando Norris fell back in the wake of George Russell's Mercedes. Then, almost inevitably, it went wrong: Charles stopped early for his second set of Hard Pirellis and was thereafter never in the hunt: with floor damage, his Ferrari was over a second-a-lap off the pace. It then became a straight fight between the two McLaren drivers, with Zak Brown allowing them to race to the finish. Piastri, on a two-stop strategy, had the performance advantage - but Norris, on a one-stopper, had the advantage of track position. In this podcast, Peter looks back at the key elements not only of that race to the chequered flag but also of the weekend as a whole - at the amazing pole of Charles Leclerc, the dismal pace of Red Bull and the wretched weekend of Sir Lewis Hamilton. With thanks to Jetcraft, the world's largest buyer and seller of executive jets:https://jetcraft.comTo OEM Exclusive, the passionate suppliers of OEM upgrades for exotic and high-performance vehiclesTo TrackNinja, a lap-timer and data app designed to help users improve their on-track car and driver performance through analysis and an innovative Data Garage.
Zak Brown didn't graduate high school – he was thrown out for fighting - but he loved sport. He watched his first Formula 1 race when he was 10, and became captivated by the cars, sound and speed. An appearance on a teen version of Wheel of Fortune, aged 13, won him some Cartier watches that he would later pawn for $1000, using the money to buy a go-kart and launch his racing career. But when it became clear he wouldn't reach the heights he hoped for, he had a big decision to make. He tells Evan Davis about his path to becoming boss of one of the biggest names in motorsport. Red Bull is furious, the FIA isn't budging, and McLaren just walked away clean yet again. Welcome to the fiercest off-track war in modern Formula 1.Climb the ladder with me on Patreon: https://patreon.com/lawvsTensions in the F1 paddock continue to rise as Red Bull's relentless protests against McLaren continue to fall flat triggering ridicule, political backlash, and a mounting credibility crisis for Christian Horner. With Toto Wolff siding publicly with Zak Brown and the FIA consistently clearing McLaren of any wrongdoing, Red Bull's accusations are beginning to look more like desperation rather than technical policing. As of now, nothing has stuck and yet Red Bull keeps going, spending money, and eroding goodwill with every failed claim. In this video, we break down the growing rivalry between three powerhouses: Red Bull, McLaren, and Mercedes. How McLaren's brake cooling system has shown up the RB21's opposite fortunes with overheating of its tyres and why Wolff's strategic support may have deeper implications. Sailing a ship is effortless when seas are calm and the wind is blowing in the right direction. And in business, it's easier to feel confident and in control when conditions are idyllic, profits are high and growth is steady. But what do you do when a storm hits? How do you turn things around and not only weather the storm, but emerge stronger? Turnarounds are challenging - in fact, within business, 70% of them fail. And the weight of expectation can test even the most experienced leaders and teams. So, what can we learn about the mechanics of managing a successful turnaround from the people who've done it? That's what we're exploring with Zak Brown, CEO at McLaren Racing, and Pauline Biddle, partner in M&A at Deloitte UK, in this episode of The Green Room as we ask: What does it take to turn things around? Tune in to find out: The essential first step all leaders must take when beginning a turnaround. How cultural change affects commercial success – and vice versa. Send us a textIn this interview with @peterwindsor we react to the Australian Grand Prix and discuss why Max Verstappen would have beaten Lando Norris in equal machinery. Why @peterwindsor is disappointed in Oscar Piastri's performance in Australia and what this might mean for the F1 driver's championship 2025. Should Oscar Piastri have been able to capitalise on Lando Norris' mistake in the wet like Verstappen did and how will this affect the dynamic at Mclaren for the rest of the season. @peterwindsor discusses why he would've leveraged team orders like Zak Brown did during the Australian Grand Prix. We discuss the mayhem at Ferrari and why he feels that Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton was disrespectful in the way they spoke to their race engineers. We discuss what Ferrari can do going forward to improve and why F1 teams are doing rookies a disservice. We argue about the extent of McLaren's car dominance and whether they will have more time in hand at the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend.- become a member -https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxyxUe_jRskL8xH7n580Ecw/join- where to find me -Twitter: https://twitter.com/CxmeronCcBusiness Email : cxmeronf1@gmail.com#f1 #formula1 #f1news #f12024 #verstappen #norris #landonorris #hamilton #podcast #mclaren #redbull #ferrari

McLaren F1's massive Oscar Piastri deal could backfire spectacularlyClimb the ladder with me on Patreon: https://patreon.com/lawvsMcLaren just stunned the Formula 1 community by dropping a major announcement about Oscar Piastri's future, securing the Australian driver until potentially 2028 with a jaw-dropping pay rise that matches teammate Lando Norris. But is this groundbreaking deal a strategic masterstroke or a ticking time bomb? With Red Bull's Christian Horner openly praising Piastri, many are questioning if McLaren's Zak Brown acted hastily, sparking fresh intrigue around Formula 1's driver market dynamics. Could equal salaries and the "team-first" approach actually cause internal friction, especially if Norris starts feeling undervalued or uncertain about his future role within the team?Meanwhile, cryptic hints from Norris himself about Ferrari indicate that even McLaren's golden boy might already be eyeing his next big career move. As the stakes rise, rival teams and drivers will undoubtedly watch closely, waiting for any cracks to show. Are McLaren's equal driver policies destined for greatness or a recipe for chaos? Watch now to find out what this means for Oscar Piastri, Lando Norris, and the future of McLaren in Formula 1.McLaren STUNS F1 as Piastri equals Norrishttps://youtu.be/NqaVDEVIUdE

Quiere ganar siempre, a cualquier precio. He estado allí. This week we have a special interview with newly minted F1 World Champion team boss, Zak Brown. Zak has been McLaren's CEO since 2018, but it's taken him several attempts to get the right team structure and management team to bring a first Constructors' World Championship since the heady days of 1998. Zak has developed into a strong leader and here he shares some of his management techniques. He used to run sports marketing businesses and was recognised as one of the best sponsorship brokers in the sport for a decade, but an F1 team has many more departments, all of which have to be high-performing. So what was the secret to finally getting McLaren in shape to deliver the title? Does he regret not being more ruthless at certain races in 2024, which might have given Lando Norris a better shot at winning the drivers' title? Why does he feel the FIA must make serious changes to the refereeing of the sport in the stewards' room? And do McLaren start the 2025 season as Championship favourites? In the studio to analyse with James are Autosport's Editor-in-Chief Rebecca Clancy and Chief Motorsport Writer Ben Hunt. Send your comments or questions to: @jamesallenonf1 on X/Twitter or jamesallenonf1@autosport.com. Producer: Dre Harrison A Motorsport Studios production for Autosport

Dale Earnhardt Jr. sets out to learn more about the world of open wheel motorsports as he sits down with the CEO of McLaren Racing Zak Brown. Big news brought the open wheel executive to town as McLaren joined Hendrick Motorsports in announcing that Kyle Larson will return to the Indianapolis 500 in 2025 for another attempt at the Memorial Day double. Zak explains how the partnership with Rick Hendrick came together through an adoration for his race team, which he views as a North American equivalent of McLaren. He also credits Larson's versatility with being reminiscent of yesteryear's drivers like A.J. Foyt and Mario Andretti. As McLaren continues to flourish open wheel racing, Zak says his sights are set on becoming a top-outfit in the sports car ranks, competing in both WEC and IMSA in the future.Zak's background in racing can be traced to the 1981 Long Beach Grand Prix, which he attended with his parents and brother. A successful appearance on Wheel of Fortune when he was 13 and advice from Mario himself led to a door opening in go-kart racing, which Zak entered and never looked back. After finding a knack for securing sponsorship, Zak realized he was better fit on the marketing end of the sport and started his own company, Just Marketing, Inc., which quickly rose to being one of the top businesses in racing. Zak would sell the company and find himself at a professional crossroads before being faced with the ultimate career decision: be in line to one day run Formula One or help direct McLaren Racing. Thanks to his love of competition, Zak took the position at the legendary race team and helped it return to its former glory at the forefront of the racing world.Dale and Zak share one strong common thread, through Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s 1980s Nova, which currently resides in the JR Motorsports garage. Zak was a longtime owner of the vehicle before Dale Jr. was able to acquire it through auction, and he shares an incredible story of how he was able to confirm its authenticity.
