Had a great conversation with Dave on the Podcast about his colt starting program & his dedication to the art of starting horses, as well as his 2022 American Rope Horse Futurity Association Limited Reserve Champion win! David Sharp was born and raised in Log Cabin, Louisiana and now resides in Brock, Texas, where he runs a training program for young horses. The majority of his program is starting two-year-olds that will go on to be rope horses. However, he also raises head horses that he competes with and shows for himself and his clients. His training program focuses on building a solid foundation with extensive groundwork, lots of outside miles, and giving the colts small tasks to do along the way to prepare them for their future. Sixth generation Coloradan, Duke Beardsley has been drawing and painting the American west for as long as he can remember. Raised both in Denver, and on a 1000 acre cattle ranch in eastern Colorado, Duke's "duel/dual" upbringing is the foundation for his unique blend of traditional western iconography and contemporary art sensibilities. An unapologetic fan of all "things cowboy" Duke spends much time on horseback, joining his many friends and family on some of the West's greatest ranches. Duke rides with crews to participate, observe and document todays working cowboys and cowgirls in their element.

Charles is true renaissance man and the epitome of a Modern Cowboy... I was so inspired talking with Charles & hearing his amazing story I know you will be too. Charles Bisset grew up off grid in the Valhalla mountains of British Columbia, Canada for the first 17 years of his life. His father was raised on a dude ranch which inspired him to raise his family off grid. Both of his parents were opera teachers and his mother homeschooled both Charles and his sister. He started thai boxing when he was 11 years old because he wanted to get into involved in sports and the boxing gym was the only thing available in that area. He had his first fight when he was 15 years old in a nightclub and by the time he was 16 he was the number 4th amateur in canada. At 17 he decided to move away and pursue his dream of being a professional cowboy on big ranches. He cowboyed in four different provences in Canada, including the famous half a million acre Douglas Lake Ranch Cattle Company and then moved to Califorina to continue cowboying at Fort Baker Ranch. He fulfilled his dream of being a cowboy for 6 years and decided to continue fighting and pursue acting. Since then hes gone on to win the CMTA National Title, NAMTF North American Title, Thilands Suwit Sadium Title, WKA World Title, United States WBC title, 2x IKKC International Champion, Titans of Muay Thai Champion and WBL World Champion. Charles has also appeared in 10 national commercials, a few indie films and appeared along side Chris Kristofferson. Had an amazing time on the Podcast with Keith discussing his New Book, the PBR, bull riders, cowboys & history. Keith has the respect, admiration & trust of many inside & outside the bullring world including Ty Murry, Shorty Gorham, Justin McBride, Cody Lambert & J.B. Mauney to name just a few. All I can say is you are going to love this book, Keith's a brilliant writer who captivates the reader with his unrelenting research, truth and story telling. They ride horses, rope calves, buck broncs, ride and fight bulls and they even wrestle steers. They are black cowboys, and the spirit of their pursuits intersected with America's struggle for racial equality, human rights and social justice. “I think your notion of the skills it takes, the horsemanship … you're countering the notion that enslaved people had no skills,” said Lonnie Bunch III, Secretary of the Smithsonian Institute and Founding Director of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, “and, see, that's an important part of the story.” Beginning at the turn of the 20th century, Black Cowboys of Rodeo is a collection of 100 years-worth of cowboy stories set against the backdrop of segregation, the Civil Rights Movement and eventually the integration of a racially divided country; and told by the unsung heroes whose accomplishments and rightful place in history have been disregarded and all but forgotten. This collection is not a final document. Or a definitive story. It is a work in progress. For many readers, Black Cowboys of Rodeo, which at its core are traditional cowboy stories, is an introduction to a whole new universe of possibilities and an unvarnished, firsthand look at a seldom documented segment of the African American experience. “In the ‘50s and ‘60s, there was a drive among black folks … to excel and overcome all sorts of barriers in order to achieve what they wanted to achieve,” said Rev. James Lawson, leading nonviolence advocate during the Civil Rights Movement. “I'm not surprised at all that a sizable number of black cowboys, who've been misrepresented and not represented in our history books and films, were among those who did that.” Resources: http://keithryancartwright.com/ https://twitter.com/ProfessorKRC?fbclid=IwAR15ug6zYhhOfZ-HjE7ylJOTKJj9_sEjmA7BGulvlPlQFg2ZeqSmu2uUVjs (twitter.com/ProfessorKRC) https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2241209/?fbclid=IwAR3goz7IG5hftc_oReV2WiAWnD-IEcPDGZwlEl5A-3-d13PBjtFL0MeqnRo (imdb.com/name/nm2241209) Show Sponsors: @moderncowboypodcast @moderncowboyperformance www.moderncowboy.global https://nrsworld.com/collections/modern-cowboy (Modern Cowboy) @nrsworld @twistedx Show Music: “Cowboy” By: Kolt Barber https://www.koltbarber.com/ (https://www.koltbarber.com/) “The Ropin Pen” By: Trent Willmon https://trentwillmon.com/ (https://trentwillmon.com/) MC Podcast Production & Editing: Tyler Hillenbrand @tyhbrand
It was an honor to have Greg Putnam on the Podcast, Navy Seal and cofounder of "Little Belt Cattle Company". I really enjoyed our conversation Greg & his partner have a lot of exciting things happening in there venture as first generation cattle ranchers... Little Belt Cattle Company is a family owned and operated American brand founded by combat veterans. We care about raising high quality beef that doesn't destroy the land we love in the process. Our products are born, bred, grazed, processed and eaten right here in the US of A- and we are damned proud of that. If you want imitation fake meat with a kale smoothie on the side- look elsewhere. If you care about providing your family with the highest quality beef or if you catch yourself longing for that western way of life, Little Belt Cattle Company is the brand for you. If you are like us, your grill stays hot no matter the season or weather, your house constantly smells like smoked meat, and your newsfeed is full of food porn. If you have ever heard from your significant other “So you are really staying up all night to make a brisket?”, know you are not alone. We are named for the Little Belt Mountains, a small range that frames the northern border of our ranch that embodies our values in its likeness. Hard people settled here long ago, and we honor them by pouring our own blood, sweat, triumph, and tribulation into this land. Building a start up cattle company in 2020 isn't for the faint of heart. You can be sure when you buy Little Belt beef or wear the L-B brand you are representing the American dream and proving that it's still alive and well. We exist to fuel your adventures, family dinners, BBQs, good times, health and dreams in a way that is both good for you and good for your environment. We are Little Belt Cattle Company, a proud American Brand. Awesome time on the Podcast with Wyatt Hicks long time listener of the show & 100% Modern Cowboy... He is the owner of Next Caliber Livestock in Minnesota an extremely cold and seemingly unlikely place to find Cowboys. Wyatt can definitely do it all from horse trainer, breeder, rodeo pickup man, mounted shooter, cattle ranching, open pasture roping, sub zero weather ranch riding Cowboy he is the man for the job. I was thrilled to have Hunter Reaume on the Podcast... Hunter made headlines recently in the Shootout Round at RFD-TV's 2021 The AMERICAN RODEO on March 7th, as $1.1 Million Dollars slipped through his hands due to an unfortunate set of circumstances. Hunter handled the situation with grace, integrity & humility. He told his Father after his run, "God has a bigger plan" and I agree. Hunter is an exemplary role model not only for Rodeo but for society as a whole. Had a great time on the Podcast with Garan, very impressed with the level of maturity this young man... Garan Buller is from central Oregon just outside of Prineville. He trains barrel horses and futurity horses as my part time job and lifestyle and also plans large charity barrel races his my families non profit. He is a full time student in a theology and business program through Grand Canyon University. Horses have been a center piece in his life from a young age and he got more into barrel racing and training through high school. Horses were the thing that pushed me to keep going throughout all of my medical problems growing up, and states "I would Literally try to get back on the horse." This was a gift and passion he believes God gave him. Garan loves helping people and folds Gods love into everything he does whether its training horses, raising money for his Families emergency medical fund for rural families, making Tik Tok videos or starting a small western clothing company. Randy Bloomer is one very cool Modern Cowboy. An entrepreneur he founded & built the "Bloomer Trailers" empire, survived a plane crash and hunted dangerous game in Africa. Really enjoyed talking with Randy a very down to earth and humble man. We started Bloomer Trailers in 1998 in the middle of chemical alley on the LaMarque/Texas City line. By hiring the best and most experienced key people in the industry it allowed us to hit the ground running and start on the path of achieving the goals that have been our benchmark. Our goals were to build every trailer with the best components money could buy and build the components that we could do better than what was available. The key word we used was every component. By 2000 we had hit our stride and already had introduced many new components the horse trailer industry had never done. We have never stopped challenging ourselves to find a better or safer way to protect our customers and their livestock. That is where our slogan of the “blinders are off” came from. When we named our newest model The Evolution it was to remind ourselves that we have yet to build the perfect trailer, so keep working on ideas. In 2002 Bloomer Trailers started building a state of the art production facility in Central Texas to serve as a convenient location for dealers, customers and our vendors. Upon completion in 2003 Bloomer moved over forty employees and their families to Central Texas to continue the craftsmanship that was expected and desired by the Bloomer Trailers customers. We feel to describe Bloomer Trailers is by photo collections through the years… and we would like to say to our customers, dealers and employees… you are the best! The Bloomer Lifestyle! In 2003 Bloomer Trailers built a state of the art production facility in Salado, Texas to serve as a convenient location for dealers, customers and their vendors. Upon completion Bloomer moved over forty employees and their families to Central Texas to continue the craftsmanship that was expected and desired by the Bloomer Trailers customers.
