What does it mean to be a man? Where do we get ideas about what that means? In this episode, I was joined by retired muay Thai champion and mental health advocate Richie hardcore to explore this idea amongst some other topics such as mental health and addiction. Richie is also an educator and public speaker who works in family and sexual violence prevention, and fitness. He also spent 6 years working in drug harm prevention. Richie stated that he was a sensitive kid that liked reading books but fighting at school made him cool. Being masculine also made him feel strong and cool but he said that he was fortunate enough to be steered away from that path and didn't turn to gangs and violence like his friends. He credited a lot of this to his passion for martial arts and the sober culture of the straight-edge hardcore scene. Richie shares his life story then we dive deep into ideas surrounding masculinity from both a sociological and spiritual perspective. Finally, Richie tells us about his battle with depression and suicidal ideation and how he pulled himself out of that dark place. I really enjoyed this conversation. Richie does some fantastic work, please check him out. https://www.richiehardcore.com/podcast https://www.facebook.com/richie.hardcore https://www.instagram.com/richiehardcore/?fbclid=IwAR2RQyyoQsg7S96MDvqhmBmE0aDmgQzgOMctup7CY7xhK5t788RXyOMyZFc

Muay Thai is a martial art and combat sport that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques, and being plant-based has been a gamechanger for Cass Warbeck. Cass Warbeck started training martial arts at the age of 11 and is a black belt in Goju Ryu karate and black level in Kurama Yama kickboxing. After reading The China Study by T. Colin Campbell in 2013, she went plant-based and never looked back. A plant-based diet fueled her throughout her amateur Muay Thai fighting career and in March 2019 she fought for and won the World Kickboxing Association (WKA) North American Bantamweight Muay Thai Title. Cass has always loved inspiring and educating others to achieve better personal health through physical movement and nutrition. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Health and Fitness Physiology from the University of Calgary and worked as a Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) certified personal trainer before applying to medical school. Currently Cass is a 3rd year medical student at the University of Alberta wants to improve the nutrition education provided to medical students in Canada. She looks forward to utilizing the power of lifestyle medicine and plant-based nutrition in her future medical practice. Cass has been featured in the book, Legends of Change, and the magazine Canadian Vegan. She is a long term volunteer for the organization Nutritionfacts.org and is the host of The Plant Fueled Podcast. "I read this book and it opened my eyes to how food and diet can actually affect long term health, and not just your immediate body composition or how you look or how toned you are. It can actually affect long-term health and your longevity and all these different things. I just couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe I hadn't learned this before. I was taking a nutrition course. I just had never made the connection. What I eat today could influence whether I would get breast cancer in the future. It was just kinda downhill from there. I just started reading all I could about nutrition and plant-based diets." - Cass Warbeck Listen Now Key Takeaways Muay Thai: what's it like to fight someone Confidence as a female fighter Her plant-based diet change Food affecting long term health and longevity Cutting weight for fights There's a lot more to health than exercise ___ Links Microsoft Word - Cass Warbeck Podcast Bio.docx Instagram: @plant_fueled Podcast: The Plant Fueled Podcast Listen to Cass interviewing me on her podcast Listen to my interview with T Colin Campbell, author of The China Study Listen to my interview with Dr. Michael Greger fo Nutritionfacts.org Sign up for my weekly newsletter! ___ Try Inside Tracker Blood Test for Athletes For 25% off, get the Inside Tracker Discount code! Charles is true renaissance man and the epitome of a Modern Cowboy... I was so inspired talking with Charles & hearing his amazing story I know you will be too. Charles Bisset grew up off grid in the Valhalla mountains of British Columbia, Canada for the first 17 years of his life. His father was raised on a dude ranch which inspired him to raise his family off grid. Both of his parents were opera teachers and his mother homeschooled both Charles and his sister. He started thai boxing when he was 11 years old because he wanted to get into involved in sports and the boxing gym was the only thing available in that area. He had his first fight when he was 15 years old in a nightclub and by the time he was 16 he was the number 4th amateur in canada. At 17 he decided to move away and pursue his dream of being a professional cowboy on big ranches. He cowboyed in four different provences in Canada, including the famous half a million acre Douglas Lake Ranch Cattle Company and then moved to Califorina to continue cowboying at Fort Baker Ranch. He fulfilled his dream of being a cowboy for 6 years and decided to continue fighting and pursue acting. Chris Romulo is a retired Muay Thai champion, author, and coach who speaks at schools and corporations about the importance of getting back up when life puts you down. Through his C.H.A.M.P.S. System, Chris will ignite in your audience the drive to succeed. Chris grew up in a broken home in Queens, NY watching his absentee father waste his life on a gambling addiction. Since a young boy, Chris knew he wanted more but the streets of Queens kept pulling him down. It wasn't until a near-death street fight that Chris re-evaluated his life and then joined a Muay Thai gym, spending the next 20 years training, fighting, and coaching others. He fought in New York City, Las Vegas, represented America in Bangkok, and eventually went on to become the first ever North American Super Middleweight champion. During his fight career Chris developed methods, both mental and physical, to help him overcome the challenges of the ring. In 2012, when Hurricane Sandy demolished his business and home, those methods were once again put to the test as Chris had to stand back up from the biggest knock down of his life. After getting his life and business back in order, he decided to share with others his C.H.A.M.P.S. System so that others could uncover the champions within them. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/buckthesystemlive/support

Molly Gutt has one of the most unique athletic backgrounds that we've ever had on the show. Cheerleading and gymnastics as a teenager gave way to aerobic kickboxing in her 20's. From there, she was eager to test herself against other fighters and moved to Muay Thai - a combat sport that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. A short time later, Molly proved herself as one of the best around. She is two-time national amateur Muay Thai Champion at 112 lbs. and 119 lbs. During her Muay Thai training Molly was introduced to running. At first it was simply a way to gain aerobic fitness. After yet another injury, Molly began to full in love with endurance sport. Running is a far cry from the explosive sports that populate Molly's past. Yet, she has found a deep affection for the sport and now looks to continue striving for PR's and greater distances. Born in Communist Poland…. Tom and his family escaped to the US when he was 11 in the early 90’s. Tom ran a record store with two older friends. Became a DJ and played at colleges, bars, radio stations, clubs and raves. Three degrees. Two associates and one bachelor. Marketing – Business to business & Sound engineer. Straight out of college I moved to New York and got an internship at Unique Recording Studios. Eventually he moved on to Assistant Engineer and then Engineer before all the studios started shutting down. Had 3 hits in the top 10 on the local polish radio… one was #1 for almost a year. After working in sales for all of these corporations I realized that they were the ones making residual income from my hard work and I always started from zero each month. Used his SEO skills to talk to local business and landed my initial clients. Before he knew he had an agency with workers and made more than he ever did in his corporate jobs. One of the blog networks that he used for SEO became too popular and Google shut it down. That left him with 1,500+ blog posts and a team of writers with nothing to do. He told them to start writing books and left them alone. That became profitable and he went on to write 5,000+ books and making $250,000+ Lesson learned for his SEO biz… do not use private blog networks! He created better systems and tighter constraints for what he would pursue but it turned out ok. He later got a team together and made a documentary about the realities of building/running businesses when on the road. Over the last few years he got into podcasting. One of his SEO clients is a Muay Thai Champion and he went on to create an online course and market it. He took his new marketing skills to help others build online courses and market them. Not being stuck with the people who aren’t moving you forward… you want to be with the people who are on the same mission as you” “We’re all victims of happenstance. We react to what happens in our life. instead of saying, “let me take control, let me know that my mind and my mindset is going to be the most powerful tool I can use when things are going great and maybe when things maybe aren’t going so great” Another episode of The Positivity Effect goes live next Tuesday - Stay Tuned !!!

Muay Thai Champion Ognjen Topic talks about what it takes to achieve the personal transformation into excellence as an athlete.
Nate Delong competed at the 2014 World Muay Thai Federation Championship on Team USA and took Gold Metal for the Pro AM (Pro/Amateur) Heavy Weight Division. Like many of us, Nate has a full time job. He is a producer at SapientNitro, an advertising agency based in Boston, MA. In this podcast, you will learn about how Nate was able to balance work and his passion to compete on the international stage. Nate was introduced to me by Matt Lindley. Matt is my hero and a wonderful guest who appeared on a previous episode of the feisworld podcast. If you have listened to some of my previous episodes, it is no secret that I'm a dedicated martial arts practitioner as well. The desire to interview someone like Nate is obvious. But why should you care, or how does this interview benefit you in anyway? Ironically enough, much of the learning as a martial artist can apply to regular office job. Not the fight (of course) but strategies that help you improve your interpersonal skills, reading and understanding your clients, managers, peers, even at interviews - what/how can you learn about the person you are speaking to in a split second and respond effectively. As a fellow martial arts practitioner, I compiled a list of questions I wanted to ask Nate. Whether you are seriously pursuing a career in martial arts or not, I hope you find these questions somewhat intriguing: How did Nate prepare himself for the World Championship in Thailand? In just 3 months, how did he peek his performance and condition himself to be in the best competition shape? What type of fighter is Nate, and what is his competition philosophy? How does Nate study his opponents prior and during the competitions? How did he overcome fear, pressure, other mental and physical challenges during practice and then on stage? What are the counterintuitive learnings that significantly improved Nate's ability to win? How did Nate cut down 14 lbs 24 hours before his the first tournament weigh-in? (Not recommended for individuals without consulting healthcare professionals.) What are some of the interesting discoveries on the international stage? What is Nate like in everyday life? Where did he grow up? What's Nate's advice for people who want to compete in martial arts? What's next for Nate? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/feisworld/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/feisworld/support
