While Ange Postecoglou never left the Grapple fold, and will have the full might of our opinions in his corner should any kind of unthinkable action be taken on his English Premier League coaching career. The NRL trials gave us all we needed to know about the thinking of the majority of NRL coaches- with Madge Magguire, Kristian Woolf, Todd Payten, Craig Fitzgibbon, Jason Ryles- among others- very much showing their hands ahead of the season proper. We'll run the rule over the various choices and raise eyebrows accordingly, while pondering the decision of major free to air broadcasters to NOT send commentary teams to Las Vegas. While at it, our heroes have a pitch to Peter V'Landys around the scheduling of the NRL All Stars fixtures, after they apparently played out last weekend. And just in case you forgot, Super Rugby is BACK, and the QLD Reds have signed a schoolboy with a bugger of a name to pronounce, but we should all know it, on account of his 120kg, 17 year old frame. KEZIE Apps has come a long way since beginning her rugby league career with the Bega Roosters after wanting to follow in the footsteps of her older brothers Deon and Ryan. But after playing her junior footy with now Melbourne Storm star Dale Finucane, she was forced to stop playing at the age of 12, due to there being no competition for her - which saw Apps start playing hockey. After numerous years away from the sport she loved, she returned to the field in 2014 when she joined the Helensburgh Tiger Lillies. This year proved to be a breakout year for the South Coast product, as she made both her NSW Blues and Jillaroos debut - as well as being named Illawarra Women's Player of the Year and the NSWRL Women's Player of the Year. LISTEN TO JASON NIGHTINGALE TALK WITH D'ARCY AND GORAN ABOVESt George Illawarra winger Jason Nightingale has announced he will retire at the end of the season.The former Kiwi international will hang up the boots after an illustrious 12-year career that has included 265 NRL games to date, 33 tests for New Zealand, the 2012 NRL All Stars as well as the Dragons' 2011 World Club Challenge win.The 31-year-old is also the last remaining player from the Dragons' 2010 grand final victory over the Sydney Roosters – where he scored two second half tries.Nightingale's longevity at the Dragons and in the NRL will also see him challenge for equal billing as the most-capped Dragon, Steeler or St George Illawarra player ever in the coming weeks, alongside fellow club legend Ben Hornby (273 games).The local Renown United junior was just 15 when he first donned the Dragons jumper, playing in the Harold Matthews and SG Ball competitions in 2002-04. The man affectionately known as 'Gypsy' made his NRL debut in Round 8, 2007 against the Penrith Panthers at Jubilee Oval, Kogarah.Scoring a try in the 28-16 win, Nightingale has since added a further 109 tries to his NRL career tally to sit equal-sixth for most tries in the history of the Dragons, Steelers and St George Illawarra."It's a very proud and solemn day for me to be announcing the end of the career," said Nightingale."I am extremely grateful for everything that the Dragons and the game has done for myself, and what I've been able to achieve."There are so many people to thank for what's been a special journey. From Renown United through to the junior reps to now, through the highs and lows and great successes I've had, I'm just so thankful for this incredible journey."Nightingale has remarkably won every single accolade awarded at the Dragons' end-of-year presentation.Winning the prestigious Dragons Medal for player of the year in 2011, Nightingale also won the Immortals Trophy (2011), the Geoff Selby Memorial Trophy (2010, 2016), the Community Involvement Award (2012) and the Red V Members Player of the Year (2011, 2013).Nightingale also won the Mark Coyne Trophy for career development in 2014, which has been reflected in his establishment of the Elite Athlete Business School."There have been so many great seasons personally," he said."To be recognised for so many different reasons that are celebrated at the Dragons, they all still sit on my mantelpiece very nicely."The 2010 grand final win was the highlight for me and my family. There are so many fond memories from that day and the season as a whole. Although now is great time to reflect, there are still plenty of memories to be made this season yet."However I'm also look forward to more family time with my second child on the way. My wife Bianka has sacrificed a lot for my career. She's been selfless by supporting me throughout my career, while also building one of her own."It'll be good to rearrange my priorities now and put her career first as well as continue to build the Elite Athlete Business School and help fulfil its potential alongside my business partner and the EABS family."Dragons CEO Peter Doust congratulated the one-club player on his stellar career."Jason has always represented himself, his family and the Dragons with distinction and has always been committed to supporting the club's visions both off and on the field," said Doust."He is an outstanding role model who typifies the club's values and we have been privileged that he has remained loyal to the Dragons for so long.
