What Inspires Your Motivation? Here are the 5 “P”‘s to Motivation Join Patrick and Steffany on this episode of the Mindset Matters Podcast as they delve deep into the intriguing question of what truly motivates us. Together they embark on an enlightening discussion, unpacking the multifaceted layers that drive motivation. Tapping into their knowledge and experiences, Patrick and Steffany hope to support listeners in going on a journey of self-discovery and introspection. Based on their life lessons and insights gained from their research and many conversations with coaching clients, they explore the concept of motivation through the lens of the 5 P's: People, Purpose, Pursuit, Pressure, and Profit. Each “P” represents an element that contributes to the intricate tapestry of our motivation, and perhaps our lack of motivation. Motivation shows up differently for different people. Knowing what inspires us and motivates us is one way of setting ourselves up for living our best life. PEOPLE: The ‘People' component of motivation serves as a reminder of the importance of cultivating meaningful relationships and nurturing a supportive network. By recognizing the impact that people have on our motivation, we can intentionally seek out those who inspire us, challenge us, and believe in our potential. PURPOSE: As a fundamental driving force behind our motivation. Delving into the exploration of our passions, values, and personal mission or calling, Patrick and Steffany discuss how finding a clear sense of purpose can ignite a powerful desire to achieve our goals. PURSUIT: The relentless pursuit of growth, improvement, and the realization of our potential. By examining the strategies and mindsets that fuel our drive, we come to understand ourselves in a way that cultivates and sustains our motivation throughout our journey. PRESSURE: Recognizing its potential as both a catalyst for motivation for some, and a hindrance for others. Patrick and Steffany dive into the art of managing stress, finding balance, and transforming pressure into a driving force that propels us towards success. PROFIT: Finally, Patrick and Steffany explore the role of Profit in motivation—highlighting the significance of finding fulfillment, both personally and professionally. They examine the importance of aligning our goals with our values, allowing us to experience a profound sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. And to be paid doing what we love to do. Listen in and enjoy this enlightening conversation to gain a deeper understanding of what motivates you and how you can harness that power to live your best life.

The warm summer months attract tourists and locals alike to the beautiful wineries and tasting rooms of popular winegrowing regions. With this predictable increase in consumer traffic in mind, it's a good idea to educate your consumer-facing staff about your sustainable practices so they are prepared to share your brand's values with new and returning patrons while serving up your latest creations. Welcome to Marketing Tip Monday with SIP Certified. We know customers are looking for wines labeled as sustainable. While our longer-form episodes help you learn about the latest science and research for the wine industry, these twice-monthly micro podcasts will help you share your dedication to sustainable winegrowing so you can show your customers that you share their values. Today we bring your tools to teach your team about sustainability. Why talk about sustainability? Training your staff to talk about your brand's value of sustainability is just as important as training them to talk about your wine selection. Consumers today are becoming more interested in companies and products that protect the health of the planet and the people who inhabit it, and are even willing to pay more for a product that has a certification to back up these claims! It's clear that sustainability sells, and plain and simple, you can't sell something you know nothing about. Having staff that is well educated and prepared to answer your customers' questions will also help to uphold your brand's good reputation. Customer service can make or break a winetasting experience. If your customer-facing staff is educated and prepared to engage in conversation with your customers, there is a greater chance of garnering positive reviews, earning return customers, and attracting new ones through word-of-mouth. Let's go over a few good topics for your consumer-facing staff to become familiar with in order to increase their confidence in talking about your brand's sustainability efforts. Get comfortable with the sustainability (SIP) Buzzwords If you've been around for a while, you're probably already familiar with our 6 SIP Buzzwords for Your Consumer-Facing Staff. In case you haven't or if you're new to the world of SIP Certified, here's a recap: The 3 P's People: practices protecting human resources and employee well-being Planet: stewardship of natural resources and the environment Prosperity: a solid business plan with long-term goals, and dedication to ensuring future generations are protected through all business practices Always Evolving SIP Certified standards and members' business practices improve as new science, technology, and research becomes available Sound Business Practices The company employs ethical practices that treat employees and the community with care and respect Continuing Education Company staff strive to stay up to date with the latest laws and regulations, as well as science, technology, and research Integrated Pest Management Using beneficial insects, raptors, and plant-enriching cover crops to mitigate pests and other harmful organisms Wildlife Corridors Providing safe passage for wildlife through vineyards in order to not compromise their natural habitat Print the Infographic below to post in your staff area, or send it directly to your customer-facing staff so they can familiarize themselves with the terms! Talk about your specific sustainability practices When consumers see evidence of sustainable practices such as solar panels, owl boxes, grazing animals, and cover crops, they may ask their tasting room attendant what these are all about. We encourage you to create educational material for your staff that is specific to your brand and your practices so they are prepared to give accurate and descriptive explanations. Stay tuned for our upcoming Marketing Tip where we'll give examples of how other SIP Certified brands educate their staff! SIP Certified or sustainability vs Organic One of the most common questions we get when we visit tasting rooms for a training is "what is the difference between SIP Certified and Organic?" Simply put, organic certification addresses farming methods. According to USDA.gov, these include "soil quality, animal raising practices, pest and weed control, and use of additives," as well as the prohibition of "artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors." SIP Certified takes a holistic approach to winegrowing. In addition to addressing soil conservation, habitat preservation, integrated pest management, and water quality, brands that are SIP Certified sustainable extend their practices to other realms of business including social equity, water conservation, and quality, energy conservation and efficiency, pollution and waste, and business management, to name a few. You will find a number of SIP Certified vineyards that are also certified Organic or incorporate organic farming methods. (The complete 2022 SIP Certified Standards can be read here.) The Owl Postcard is a great visual representation for comparing SIP Certified, Organic, and Biodynamics. Visit the shop to order a stack for your tasting room staff to use while answering this common question! All POS materials are included in your SIP Certified membership. Dave Lukas, The Misfit Entrepreneur_Breakthrough Entrepreneurship
This week's Misfit Entrepreneur is Michelle Seiler Tucker. Michelle is the founder of Seiler Tucker Incorporated, a pre-imminent company for fixing, growing, buying, and selling businesses. Over 20 years, Michelle and her team have assisted in the buying and selling of over a thousand businesses. She is also a venture capitalist and two-time #1 best-selling author, speaker, TV, and radio host. Her latest book is called, Exit Rich and it's being hailed by everyone from Steve Forbes to Brian Tracy, Les Brown, Jack Canfield, and many others. Michelle has been featured everywhere from INC to Forbes to Entrepreneur and holds just about every certification possible in the M&A space. It's safe to say she is an expert in how to grow, sell, and buy businesses. And I've asked her to come on the show to go in depth in all those areas. www.SeilerTucker.com Get the book Exit Rich Michelle has always been an entrepreneur going back to when she was a kid. She did work at Xerox and climbed the ranks quickly, but she could not stay and had to pursue her entrepreneurial spirit. She went into franchise space. She had a lot of buyers that would ask to buy existing businesses instead of starting from scratch. She saw an opportunity and began providing these services. Nowadays, her firm specializes in selling, buying, fixing, and growing businesses. She also invests in businesses and helps guide them to maximize their value. What are the characteristics of a great business? It is an actual business and not a job. 80% of businesses will never sell – Steve Forbes. Most business owners don't build the proper infrastructure that allows the business to grow and scale without them. A great business maximizes the 6 P's: People, Processes, Product, Proprietary, Patrons, and Profits. A business is sellable when it has a sustainable, scalable, and predictable structure in place. Go in depth on the 6 P's. What do we need to know? 80% of businesses will never sell. Most business owners don't build their business to be sold and most are emotionally attached to it having created a glorified job for themselves. The business must work for the owner, not the owner for the business. The #1 reason businesses don't sell is because the business is completely dependent on the owner. People: You build people and people build the business. The right people in the right seats. As the who question? Who does what? What are the characteristics of that person? Product: Your product, industry, and service. A business must always innovate and market. You must constantly ask, “I am on the way up or the way out?” A business must have multiple revenue streams. What is your business best at? What business should you be in? Processes: This is where most businesses fail. You have to identify your processes, but most business owners do this wrong. They design their business processes around their own agenda – it needs to be around the customer agenda. Michelle gives a great example of this with medical clinics. Your process must be concrete and tested and wow your customers. Proprietary: This is the highest value P. Business that are under $1 million in EBITA will trade between 1-3x EBITA. If the EBITA is over $1 million, it starts at 5x and up. Proprietary is a number of things. Part of this is branding – the more value your brand has, the more your company is worth. Trademarks are valuable as well. They need to be registered Federally, not just in the state of the business. Trademark your products as well. Patents are important as well. Contracts are another value driver. Data is valuable. Patrons: Your customers. Customer concentration is something that does happen, but a business must be careful not to have the bulk of the revenue highly concentrated in a small number of clients. It is a risk. Diversify your client base and offerings to grow clients. Profits: Most companies are not making a profit. Lack of profits are not the problem, it is a symptom of not having the rest of the 6 P's. How does an entrepreneur plan their exit strategy from day 1? The worst time to sell your business is during a catastrophe or risk event. You want to sell your business at its height. You must have a realistic value of what your business is worth – not what you think it is worth. Follow the GPS exit model: Start with the end in mind. Plan your exit from the beginning. Know the destination before you begin the journey. (what is the goal to exit or sell the business for) Know where you are starting from. (what is the business worth today) Know who your buyers are. Build the company to sell from the beginning. What are the big mistakes entrepreneurs make in the sales process? Not hiring the right professionals to help you or trying to sell the business on your own. Get an experienced M&A advisor. Get the proper disclosures signed. Be careful selling to customers or employees. Go back to the 6 P's to maximize value. Make sure contracts, employee contracts/non-competes all buttoned up. Beware telling your employees and clients you are in a process. Don't negotiate outside of your M&A advisor. Anything else we should know? Don't ever divulge your customer list. Make sure you have a non-compete if a competitor is buying you. It's not what you know that gets you into trouble, its what you don't know. Many deals fall apart because of taxes. You have to pay taxes – don't not sell your business because of taxes. There are ways you can defer capital gains. Best Quote: 80% of businesses will never sell. The #1 reason businesses don't sell is because the business is completely dependent on the owner. Michelle's Misfit 3: Build your exit from the beginning. Use the 6 P's. People, Processes, Product, Proprietary, Patrons, and Profits It is hard to read the label from the inside of the bottle. You need an outsider's perspective. Get a mentor who has been down the road you want to travel. Do your best to have a balanced life of God, family, and work. Keep a 30-day journal and document things. 3 buckets. Bucket A are the things only you can do. Bucket B are the things that you are good at but should be delegated. Bucket C are the things you can outsource entirely. Show Sponsors Goldmining Inc. Growing Your Firm | Strategies for Accountants, CPA's, Bookkeepers , and Tax Professionals
Today, the founder and CEO of Jetpack Workflow, David Cristello is reflecting on a quote from Marcus Lemonis, host of the reality TV show The Profit. In the show, Marcus would go into small businesses and assess the three P's: People, Process, and Product. He'd determine where the biggest issues were and help the owners make corrections. Typically, the people (staff) were great, and when they weren't, it was obvious they needed to go. If this were the case, he'd advise the owners to get rid of them quickly so the rest of your team can perform at a higher level. From there, he would assess how to get their products (which were also usually great) out of the door. This led him to a philosophy that resonates with David and many firm owners: “Look at processes before you look at the people.” Oftentimes, confusion and lack of growth within your staff isn't a result of the people, but a byproduct of a bad process. It leads your staff to a lot of wasted time trying to figure out what needs to be done, on top of all of the other work they are trying to complete. Eventually, burnout is the result.

Chemist turned sales coach, Wesleyne Greer has a clear idea of what contributed to her sales success: people, process, and profit... and in that order. Wesleyne explains that her work in a lab just wasn't getting her the face-to-face interaction she craved. She turned to sales as a profession because it fulfilled her constant curiosity and played to her listening skills and problem-solving strengths. Once she entered a sales role, Wesleyne quickly realized that this profession was the job she had always dreamed of. Wesleyne's passion and drive resulted in a rapid ascent from individual contributor to international sales manager. However, when she reached this new stage on the sales ladder, she was surprised by a striking deficit in available resources. While she had received plenty of guidance in her entry role, there just weren't the same support systems in place at the managerial level. This experience inspired Weslyne to start her own business that focuses on helping sales managers transform into empowered leaders, who can effectively guide their teams to consistent success. Tune into this week's episode of Sales Lead Dog to learn more about Wesleyne's perspective on how sales managers can establish a balance between authority and individualized support for each and every team member. How should a sales manager approach top performers? How do you balance pressure from your boss with adding lasting value to your sales team? What integral role does your CRM play in your team's success? Wesleyne and host Chris Smith will explore these questions in-depth during this week's episode, “The Three P's: People, Process, and Profit.” Quotes: “It's all about the three P's: People, Process and Profit. In that order.” “I say it's all about the three P's and its people, process and profit. And I put profit at the end, and people at the beginning because essentially without the right people in place, you're not going to be profitable and building a process without having the right people in place, you won't ensure that you have profit.” (4:48-5:12) “I tell people that when I got into sales, I finally figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up.” (6:31-6:37) “I always always tell sales managers and sales leaders it's about solid sales skills….You can teach them your products, your services, you can teach them the technology. But what you can't teach somebody is really solid sales skills.” (9:49-10:06) “You build your sales process not based on what the corporate office wants it to be or what your boss wants it to be. You make your sales process off of what's working in the field. And the way you figure out what's working in the field is you talk to the top performers.” (15:48-16:03) “When I ask a sales leader, ‘Who is your salesperson or who are your top salespeople?', they always give me the one who's hitting quota. But to me, it's more about consistency. Sometimes people can have a really great year, and then they can be duds for the next two years. So a definition of success is consistency.” (20:50-21:14) “You have to do a postmortem because it's ok to lose a deal, but it's not ok to lose a deal the same way twice.” (28:10-28:18) Links Website: https://www.transformedsales.com/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/wesleynegreer/ Linkedin Business: https://www.linkedin.com/company/transformedsales Empellor CRM Website chris.smith@empellorcrm.com Empellor CRM LinkedIn Podcast production and show notes provided by FIRESIDE Marketing
