In this episode, Dawn welcomes coach and storyteller James Jeff Lee, also known as Rev Up Dude. They dive deep into the concept of elevating consciousness, exploring how our life experiences, relationships, and emotional states shape our overall well-being. James shares insights from Dr. David Hawkins' scale of consciousness, emphasizing the importance of courage as a tipping point for personal growth. The conversation highlights the significance of self-awareness, the power of creation in our lives, and the necessity of healing past traumas to foster healthier relationships. With a focus on the seven love levels, James encourages listeners to approach relationships with clarity and honesty, treating them like job interviews to ensure compatibility and fulfillment. KEY TAKEAWAYS Elevating one's consciousness involves understanding and improving one's emotional and physiological states. It is a journey that can lead to higher levels of happiness and fulfillment, moving from basic survival needs to experiences of love, joy, and peace. Developing self-awareness is crucial for personal growth. It allows individuals to observe their reactions and align their actions with their higher values, fostering a growth mindset that encourages learning and improvement. Everyone is a creator of their reality, influenced by their energy, frequency, and vibration. By consciously choosing to raise their vibration, individuals can manifest better experiences in their lives. Before entering a new relationship, it is essential to heal from past wounds and understand one's needs and desires. Being clear about what one wants in a relationship is vital. Just as in job interviews, individuals should approach dating with honesty and awareness, ensuring that both partners are aligned in their relationship goals and values. BEST MOMENTS 'You can ascend to higher levels where you start to experience things like willingness and acceptance and reason and then love and joy and peace and eventually even enlightenment.' 'We're all just energy vibrating at a certain frequency, giving the appearance of a solid. But our spirit is my belief, our spirit, the thing that makes us us, what's inside this container, is energy vibrating at a certain frequency.' 'Carol Dweck is a Stanford professor, and she coined the term growth mindset. And she says a growth mindset believes that your intelligence is not fixed.' We spoke with Jeff Lee, cofounder and CEO of DIBS Beauty about his approach to building brand awareness, partnering with celebrities, and starting a company during the pandemic. “What makes us so unique, I think, is the way we speak with our customer at DIBS; we like to joke that it's reverse master class. People used to learn about makeup from celebrities, from celebrity makeup artists. . . . We're just about, take the stick, take the brush, take the powder, put it on—you won't mess it up. And if you learn something from your friend over there, even better.” Oh, and he also shared his tips on coaching the Miss Universe pageant. “The pageants themselves are actually highly meritocratic in the sense that they test your skills. And I like to say that we give opportunities to people who can hit a ball or punch each other out or jump around at a high-level precision—no matter your race, creed or your background, your economic background for pageants—we're giving people the opportunity to succeed. We're democratizing access to fame and opportunities.”

With host retail coach Wendy Batten https://wendybatten.com/podcast-intro/ You are in for a very special holiday treat on this episode of the Creative Shop Talk Podcast, my friends! Joining me on this episode are three of my Level Up Mastermind and Retailer's Inner Circle members: Amy Cseh, Amy Hart, and Jeff Lee, all brilliant and longstanding independent retail shop owners who have been in the trenches and experienced ups and downs just like many. (Links to follow along with all of them are below.) The interview, which originally aired exclusively in the Retailer's Inner Circle Facebook group, is FULL of holiday sales tips from these three seasoned shop owners. Here are just a few of the sales tips we dug into: Take advantage of any of the events that are organized by the community or town. Ensure your staff is well trained and knows exactly what you are trying to accomplish. Set specific numbers goals for your staff so they can be engaged and track progress. Know your customer base and anticipate what they are looking for. Don't “panic buy” merchandise just because you have FOMO or think that's what you should be doing. If you are an Inner Circle member, implement the sales strategies in the Sales Accelerator masterclass. (And if you aren't a member, maybe it's time to join the Retailer's Inner Circle!) Don't miss the after Christmas rush! Customers want to shop that week between Christmas and New Year's. Have a plan for projected sales/buying plan for Q1. Sales will slow down after the holidays are over and you don't want to be caught off guard. There is a new masterclass that just released into the Inner Circle this week all about Open to Buy Inventory Management that all members have access to. Pay attention to your return rate per square foot. If something isn't selling fast enough, you may need to make a decision to downsize the display or get rid of the line completely. Plan your events & weekly emails ahead of time so you aren't missing personal things during the holiday season. It doesn't feel good to let personal things slide for the “sake of the store.” Do everything you can in advance, including personal things. (By the time this podcast airs, Jeff's house will have been fully decorated for Christmas for 2+ weeks!) Amy C.'s advice: “Bless and release!” You've trained your staff and they are good at their jobs. Schedule your days off and enjoy your time outside of your shop. YOU are the only one who is going to notice what doesn't get done. Know what your “no's” are and stick to them. If something is causing you stress, give it to a team member or simply don't do it. If you are interested in joining the Level Up Mastermind, we are opening 3 seats and would love to hear from you. Now that you've “met” three of the retailers who are part of the Level Up Mastermind, you may have a better feel for who we are. Here is the link with more information. 20 year-old Kristie Gunderson Lee was a young wife, and new mom living in Pompano Beach, Florida in 1994. She was a friendly and popular hairdresser who was not known to have enemies, but on March 31st of that year, she died a violent death in her apartment. She was bludgeoned and strangled to death. Initially, it seemed like a burglary gone wrong, but police ruled that out and instead investigated the murder as a crime of passion. As in most cases involving a crime of passion, detectives looked closely at Kristie's husband Jeff Lee, but learned early on that he was at work when the murder happened and had an air tight alibi. Police quickly turned their suspicion to Kristie's in-laws, Kay and Joe Petralia, who had discovered Kristie's body and called 911. Their timeline of events didn't match up with witness statements in the case, and as police looked closer, they found that Kristie & Kay had been at odds with each other over the raising of Kristie & Jeff's son Zachary. They had heated arguments, and at least once, got into a physical altercation. Police asked the Petralias to take polygraphs, and they both refused. Eventually, the Petralias became the prime suspects in their daughter in law's murder, and even their son Jeff came to believe that they were responsible for Kristie's murder. But to date, no charges have ever been filed in relation to Kristie's murder. Kristie's good friend Emily, who runs a Facebook page about Kristie's case, and has been advocating for her friend for 30 years, discusses Kristie's case in this episode. Ep 99 - Should you take the BIG job? - June 26 Joseph and Clay discussed the topic of whether or not to take on big service jobs, including dealing with hoarders and underpricing. They also talked about the potential rewards and risks involved in taking on such jobs. Clay and Joseph discussed their weekend activities and then talked about their favorite moments from a recent interview with Dan Antonelli, with Joseph highlighting the importance of listening to one's body and taking steps to maintain good health. They also discussed the topic of service calls versus long, big jobs. Clay and Joseph discussed whether service calls or bigger jobs are more profitable for residential service businesses. They concluded that taking smaller service calls can lead to a more diversified risk and a stronger clientele base, while bigger projects come with more risks and challenges.Joseph and Clay discussed the risks and challenges of taking on large projects, including the potential for not making money and dealing with difficult clients. They also shared a story about a smaller contractor who faced an emergency call for a submerged panel with mud in it, and the challenges he faced in restoring power to the affected trailers and campgrounds.Joseph and Clay discussed how contractors should approach situations where they may be outside of their comfort zone or resources to complete a job. They emphasized the importance of showing gratitude, evaluating if the job is physically possible, and setting up a two-call close approach to ensure the job is within their margins. Joseph and Clay discussed various topics including acknowledging the ability to help customers, simplifying tasks, scheduling a meeting to learn about leveraging sponsorships for their podcast, and Jeff Lee becoming one of the chosen 10 for fall winter. With host retail coach Wendy Batten https://wendybatten.com/157/ I'm so excited to introduce you to Jeff Lee! One thing Jeff will share with us is how he's made hard decisions about product lines, branding, etc…including truly listening to what his customers want. Jeff will also share how he's turned his shop into a local destination shop. Notes: Today I'm chatting with Christie Carter-Tokairin, a fabulous retailer seeing such great success throughout her 10 years in business at her beautiful shop, Revived Vintage. Christie has been an active and invested member of The Retailer's Inner Circle since it began. I'm so proud to have her share some of her wisdom and some of her success secrets as she navigates her 10th year as a small shop owner of a successful creative retail business. We discuss throughout the episode some of the biggest issues facing so many independent shop owners: (1) building and nurturing community with customers and in your real community, (2) working full time with your husband, (3) navigating mental health and being true to what matters, (4) how to have boundaries around your business (Christie doesn't bring her laptop home at night), and so much more. “I used to think that if I was working on my business every minute of every day, it would grow faster, better, stronger. And I did that when it first opened, and I found that that was actually not true at all.” - Christie Carter-Tokairin Pay particular attention to our conversation about taking care of ourselves, letting things go, and being open and honest about our mental health. She also shares my passion for being community minded in your town. Being a good active member of your own town has such an incredible ROI on your mind and pocketbook. “There is no gold metal for hustling.” - Wendy Batten She exemplifies a shop owner doing it her way, making decisions based on life first, then around her beautiful business. It's very inspiring. So, let's go and listen in on our chat about life and business as a small shop owner! https://wendybatten.com/podcast-intro/ About Christie Christie Carter-Tokairin is the owner of Revived Vintage in beautiful Qualicum Beach, BC. This week, Jeff and Harrison are joined by Jeff Lee from The Jeffrey Lee Agency of Farmers Insurance. We discuss some of the trends and highlights in the insurance industry, what Farmers offers, and how Mainers can save money on their insurance.
Growing up in communities of color, Jeff Lee and Courtney Shields were both early to understanding the importance of diversity and inclusion in beauty. When they met virtually through peers during the pandemic, they instantly connected over a shared desire to create a multicultural collection of beauty products catering to all. Their mutual passions for making all women feel seen and beautiful birthed DIBS Beauty, short for Desert Island Beauty Status, in September 2021. The co-founders secured $2.6 million in an initial funding round from Tula's co-founders, as well as major stakeholders at finance company L Catterton, which also invested in Tula, and influencers. DIBS Beauty's less intimidating and more inclusive approach to beauty also made it one of the fastest-growing brands in 2022, according to research firm Spate. Thanks in part to the virality of the brand's hero product, Status Stick, average monthly searches for the brand grew to 2,470 in 2022. "The mission of DIBS Beauty is desert island beauty status. It's the makeup you would take with you to a desert island," Lee said on the latest episode of The Glossy Beauty Podcast. In January, the company reported 700% year-over-year sales growth. With expansion top of mind for the co-founders, creating new, innovative products and expanding to new distribution channels are the biggest priorities this year.

Earned: Strategies and Success Stories From the Best in Beauty + Fashion
In Ep. 56 of Earned, we sit down with Jeff Lee, co-founder and CEO of DIBS (“Desert Island Beauty Status”), the beauty brand created in partnership with star influencer Courtney Shields. We start by unpacking Jeff's many noteworthy accomplishments, including earning his MBA at Stanford and his law degree at Yale, coaching several successful Miss Universe pageant contestants, visiting every Equinox gym across the world, and serving as COO for former MLB shortstop Alex Rodriguez's A-Rod Corp investment firm—all before launching DIBS Beauty. Jeff reveals how he manages and prioritizes his time to allow him to invest in his varied pursuits, before explaining why he decided to transition from attorney to brand operator. We dive into his time at A-Rod Corp, and hear how he got the job (despite not knowing who A-Rod was), as well as the team-building learnings he took away with him. Jeff then shares why he thinks following your passion is the “worst career advice,” and why you should instead pursue your “superpower.” Next, we discuss how DIBS Beauty came to be, and the key factors contributing to the brand's rapid growth, before closing the show by learning Jeff's guiding principles that help him navigate challenging times.
