On today's episode we explore the Taurus-Scorpio axis in astrology and ground it into the context of seasonal cycles, creativity, the houses in the birth chart, and personal lived experiences. I am delighted to have Bronwyn Simons Astrology back for our ongoing conversation of the Lunar Currents series! Learn about the interplay between "roots" (Taurus) and "blooms" (Scorpio), and how these are not separate entities but parts of a continuous process of fertility and growth related to creative practices, personal journeys, and the cyclical nature of life. We both give examples of the alchemical experience of integrating these seemingly opposing forces and how this also relates to the houses in the birth chart.Bronwyn and I also discuss the challenges of harmonizing seemingly opposing forces, particularly in relation to health, spirituality, daily life, family, and creative pursuits — and why every full moon plays a big role in the alchemical process. This episode explores themes that we will personalize and go deeper with in our upcoming workshop: Stars and Roses: Astrology and Creativity for MaytideWORKSHOP LINKFriday, May 2, 1 -2:30 Pacific Time and by replay. You can join us by registering here: https://astrologygoddess.mykajabi.com/offers/gLqLsZoL/checkoutOr, the workshop is FREE for all our beloved paid subscribers on Substack. This month we are treated to this tour de force by Robert Cole who is Head of the Family Team at Broadway House Chambers, Leeds and regularly sits as an arbitrator and ENE/pFDR adjudicator across the country, and Peter Smith from Quantis Forensic Accountants about how to analyse business accounts.  We immediately launch into a discussion about what should cause you concern in business accounts, and the well known issue that businesses always seem to be failing when people are getting divorced.  Therefore, how professionals need to have four to five years accounts to be able to look at trends.  Peter suggests we should take an overview of:Has revenue, sales or turnover gone down?Have gross profit margins gone down? And Have costs gone up?These factors will provide a good indicator of any causes for concern. Robert adds to that you should have look at what fixed assets there are, and whether the valuation has been updated.  If you consider these points, you will have good insight into whether you need to ask for a valuer from the Court.  Peter and Robert give us some tips for questionnaires, including: Asking for a copy of up-to-date profit & loss accounts, management accounts and balance sheets as most decent size businesses with accounting software will have that immediately available;Summaries from the VAT portal; And always checking viewing the Companies Article of Association;  We discuss when valuations from the business's own accountants are reliable. Before moving on to consider what type of valuations should be used for each business.  Robert advises us that to be successful in a Daniels v Walker application that you first need to have tried to clarify matters with the expert, but even where you are not going to pursue a Daniels v Walker application but just want to make submissions about the reliability of the conclusions then questions are important to tease out vulnerabilities in the report.  Peter also points out that there is a distinction between wanting to challenge the expert's judgment – which can be done without a separate expert – and where an expert has made a mistake for example an error in the factual basis. We discuss when should a quasi-partnership apply, and Robert advises us to use the checklist from Re: Bird Precision Bellows [1986] 2 WLR 158:close working relationship between the shareholders (usually pre-existing the incorporation);restriction on the transfer of shares to a third party;the shareholders continue to be actively involved in the day-to-day running of the company (not necessarily employed but consulted about day-to-day and strategic decisions) During the discussion, we refer to the following cases:  V v V (Financial Remedy) [2005] 2 FLR 697J v J [2014] EWHC 3654   HTTPS://WWW.JUDICIARY.UK/WP-CONTENT/UPLOADS/2014/11/J-V-J-JUDGMENT.PDFMartin v Martin [2018] EWCA Civ 2866 – risk and liquidity https://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWCA/Civ/2018/2866.html Versteegh v Versteegh [2018] EWCA Civ 1050 – on the lack of reliability in valuationshttps://www.bailii.org/cgi-bin/format.cgi?doc=/ew/cases/EWCA/Civ/2018/1050.html&query=(versteegh) Ebrahimi v Westbourne Galleries Ltd [1973] AC 360 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ebrahimi_v_Westbourne_Galleries_Ltd G v G (Financial Provision: Equal Division) [2002] 2 FLR 1143 - Where shareholders act in concert and would be unlikely to sell separately then discount less applicable Clarke v Clarke [2022] EWHC 2698 – on whether a minority discount should applyhttps://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/Fam/2022/2698.html Technical factsheet from ACCA – for minority interests discountshttps://www.accaglobal.com/content/dam/ACCA_Global/Technical/fact/technical-factsheet-167.pdf  WM v HM [2017] EWFC 25 (09 May 2017) https://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWFC/HCJ/2017/25.html

It's bonus episode time. In today's Special Features episode Felicia is once again joined by Perry Jackson (listen to our previous episode on 24 Hour Party People), and we chat about what Albert Brooks' work both as a director and comedy means to us both. How his style of comedy has translated through the decades and remains fresh as ever. We also discuss the concept of an unlikeable protagonist, and how the film relies on Brooks' charm to convince the audience to follow along with his story. Along with the character Robert Cole's career in film as an editor and how that ties into his compulsive nature to control the narrative of his life, and the lives of others. Oh, and we also have a lot of fun, because who doesn't have fun talking about quaaludes? I give a taste of each of the houses and how they may connect with the phases- this is all just the tip of the iceberg! Working with the moon is working with our inner landscape. Working with the Harvest Cycle is working with the movement of the sun through our birth chart throughout the solar year. The lunar cycle is like a mini-year. Both wax and wane, grow and release light and life. Listen and learn about what is possible when we weave these two cycles together. What if the grips of winter were the gifts of winter? What if our human rhythms were more like the rhythms of the seasons? In today's episode I am joined by filmmaker and nature practice teacher Natasha Deganello Giraudie. She is a dear friend and colleague and someone I've had the pleasure of connecting with through being guided by the moon, seasons, and nature. Natasha has worked with the New Moon Calendar Journal for the past six years as an integral part of her work and personal practice. We talk about her creative process in bringing Opening to the Medicine of Winter to life and what is possible when we develop a deep trust of our intuition. Natasha mentions a book called “The Book of Houses” by Robert Cole, Paul Williams which is an amazing tool for connecting us with our own personal harvest cycles. In our conversation we explore the theme of how to become more receptive and available to the gifts we know are there for us during the cold dark months of winter. I love all the insights Natasha shares about our well being, the earth's well being and the well being of future generations… especially in the way it relates to anchoring into rhythms and going against the grain of the discordant environments that rupture this rhythm. I have the pleasure and honor of being a part of Opening to the Wisdom of Winter and sharing my winter, new moon, and eclipse stories. Don't miss the chance to explore these beautiful themes in community in Opening to the Medicine of Winter with a diverse group of women from a variety of perspectives and backgrounds to help us experience the more of the nourishing, soulful side of the cold season. In this episode, Emmy Liederman is joined by multilingual journalist and author Fernanda Santos. Santos was the first Brazilian to work as a staff writer at The New York Times, where covered the American Southwest. She is now a full-time professor at Arizona State University and a contributing columnist at The Washington Post. Fernanda's book, “The Fire Line: The Story of the Granite Mountain Hotshot,” honors the men who died together in one of the deadliest days in American firefighting. Her connection to these victims and their relentless sense of unity is also the subject of her Ted Talk. In this episode, she talked about how she maintains trust with her sources, best practices for pitching the right stories and how she continues to learn alongside her students every day. Santos also discussed her journey to rediscovering joy after the sudden death of her husband Mike Saucier, who was also a journalist and author. We also paid tribute to TCNJ journalism professor Robert Cole through a segment with alum Brian Hershberg, who thanks Cole for giving him the confidence he needed to build a successful career. Important Links:Fernanda's TED Talk, website, and Twitter

Since the coronavirus pandemic crippled the U.S. lodging industry beginning in mid-March, tens of thousands of hotels have struggled to keep their lights on and attract business. However, a new group of hoteliers this week hopes to disrupt third-party booking channels with a blackout campaign to protest the commissions charged by online travel agencies during the COVID-19 crisis. Reform Lodging is asking its nearly 2,000 members to shut off their branded room inventory from Expedia Group and Booking Holdings on Friday and Saturday in what it calls a “symbolic” act of defiance. In this episode of Lodging Leaders podcast, we report on the “Lights Out, OTA!” campaign and explore the financial implications of OTA commissions and franchiser's reservation fees on owners of branded hotels. We feature Sagar Shah of Philadelphia, co-founder and president of Reform Lodging and managing principal at Yatra Capital Group; Parth Patel, president of VIPA Hospitality in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and a member of Reform Lodging; and Robert Cole of Dallas, Texas, a senior research analyst in lodging and leisure for Phocuswright. We also include sound bites from second-quarter earnings calls with CEOs of Expedia Group and Booking Holdings.
