This week on the show we talk about the runfest at the IPL, which saw Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, Prabhsimran Singh and Shubman Gill post individual scores of 98+ within a span of five days. Throw in impressive performances from players like Glenn Maxwell and Rinku Singh and the question becomes: Is bat dominating ball too much? The Rajasthan Royals would argue otherwise, as their epic collapse against RCB reflected their collapse in this tournament as the playoff picture starts to take shape - with the Gujarat Titans now confirmed as a top 2 side.In the second half of the show, we're back in New Zealand to discuss David White's decision to step down as CEO. On the field, it's been an incredibly successful decade, particularly for the Black Caps, but is NZ Cricket set up well for future success? Or does the road ahead look challenging?Speaking of challenging, the reported contract offer from the Mumbai Indians to Jofra Archer suggests that international cricket's future is under threat perhaps even sooner than many predicted. Throw in the ICC revenue model for the next World Test Championship cycle and you start to wonder how long before cricket's employment model is completely flipped on its head.We round out the show by discussing Rory Burns' hair, and Daryl Mitchell's lack of it. Fortunately, though, what Mitchell lacks in the hair department he makes up for with runs - his hundred for Lancashire a notable performance from the County Championship, where Steve Smith is struggling, Michael Neser is on fire and it looks as though Ben Foakes has not done enough to retain his spot in England's Test side. We'll be back next week as the IPL playoffs and the English international summer take shape, including the build-up to the World Test Championship Final and the Ashes. On this episode of the show, Binksy, Baldy and Stu look back at an action-packed week at the IPL, which saw plenty of runs, some very fast bowling and, unfortunately, too many injuries. We also discuss the Black Caps v Sri Lanka series, the conclusion of the Plunket Shield and New Zealand's upcoming tour to Pakistan. The IPL has started with a bang - Virat Kohli sixes, Mark Wood rockets, Jos Buttler catches and incredible crowds - but a serious injury to Kane Williamson looks likely to rule him out of the ODI World Cup later in 2023. We discuss the implications for the Black Caps, whether Hardik Pandya should be seriously considered as India's white-ball captain, if Kyle Mayers has springs inside his bat and whether the Punjab Kings can maintain their impressive start to the tournament. In the second segment of the show we discuss the white-ball series between New Zealand and Sri Lanka, which has so far been dominated by a largely second-string Black Caps' side. We talk about Rachin Ravindra's composure, tally up the gains from our skyrocketing Will Young stock and discuss the squads for the upcoming T20 and ODI tour to Pakistan. To round out the show, we touch on the strong finish to the NZ domestic season for Central Districts, a win for NZ A against the Aussies and wonder if Rory Burns running down the wicket is a sign of things to come in the County Championship. We'll be back again soon to discuss more news from the IPL and the Black Caps' tour to Pakistan. Well, we say dismal—Dan was feeling pretty optimistic until an hour alongside Glenn's downbeat company reminded him of England's many, many, problems.  Indeed, it took all of one ball in this Ashes to shatter English aspirations, as the tourists' plans were left looking more exposed than Rory Burns' leg stump. Why did England bat first? Why was Broad left out? Why can nobody convert a 50 into a big score? Were—as Glenn half-jokingly suggests—England painfully attempting to play 4D chess? Matt Henry, Neil Wagner and Ajaz Patel have bowled New Zealand to the brink of a stunning test series win over England. The trio combined for eight wickets in a remarkable spell on day three of the second test, with Trent Boult adding one for good measure as England finished the day a miserable 122-9, leading by just 37 runs as victory looms for the Black Caps. While a test series victory – which would be their first in England this century – was always possible, plausible even, the dominance this Black Caps team produced on day three, especially without some frontline stars, was extraordinary.Yes, this is a under-strength English side, but New Zealand are missing Kane Williamson, BJ Watling, Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Kyle Jamieson and Tim Southee - a rather significant 292 tests of experience. You could barely notice they were missing based on the performance of their replacements on day three, with three wickets apiece to Henry and Wagner being complemented by two from Patel as a simple path emerged to a test win in England – just their sixth in history. To make it more remarkable, this was a day that could have ended poorly for New Zealand, after a middle-order collapse.Resuming at 229-3, New Zealand had eased to 292-3, before losing their last seven wickets for 96 runs to go into the second innings with a lead of 85.Having struggled at the start of his innings, Ross Taylor looked more like his old self to begin day three, bringing up his second 50 in his last 15 test innings with some more assured, yet still aggressive strokeplay. He offered a chance on 68 before departing on 80, caught behind flashing outside off, and that sparked a tumble of wickets.Henry Nicholls (21) gloved one down legside to the keeper, while Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell missed their final opportunity to put their hand up for the World Test Championship final.Mitchell departed for six, pulling a long-hop straight to short midwicket, and while Blundell made 34, he was dropped third ball and has put in a mixed display behind the stumps, making the selection of Watling, if fit, an easy choice for the selectors next week.Patel, however, strengthened his case for selection, following up his two first-innings wickets with a pleasant 20 at No 10 that showed the tail would not necessarily be dramatically lengthened by his inclusion. He and Boult added 27 for the last wicket which gave the bowlers a better buffer – one that became increasingly daunting for England as the Kiwi bowlers tore them to shreds.Henry did the most damage, removing Rory Burns second ball to an excellent Tom Latham catch at second slip, before Mitchell showed safe hands to pocket the wicket of Dom Sibley at third slip.Zak Crawley followed, trapped lbw, and England were in dire straits at 30-3.Just as thoughts turned to how Henry could be crammed in to a jam-packed bowling equation for next week's final against India – in place of Wagner, perhaps? – Wagner showed just how difficult the next few days will be for the New Zealand selectors.Brought on in the 14th over, by the end of the 18th Wagner had two scalps to remind everyone of his value, trapping Ollie Pope lbw with his familiar inswinger, before having Dan Lawrence caught behind. And then, as if there weren't enough (welcome) selection headaches for Gary Stead and Williamson, the impressive Patel got in the action, bowling James Bracey before removing England's last hope, skipper Joe Root, caught behind.A quick 44-run stand between Olly Stone and Mark Wood ensured New Zealand will have to bat again, but with just one England wicket remaining, and a fourth-innings target unlikely to surpass 50, a special victory awaits for the Black Caps.text by Niall Anderson, NZ Herald

Jonathan Agnew presents from Old Trafford where England are on the verge of a series win over West Indies following the third day of the deciding Test. Stuart Broad’s six wickets across two innings have not only brought Joe Root’s side close to victory but also left the bowler just one away from 500 career Test wickets. His four in four overs had the tourists 197 all out, 172 behind. England later declared on 226-2 with Rory Burns hitting 90 and Dom Sibley and Root scoring 56 and 68 respectively to set Jason Holder’s side a target of 399. But thanks to Broad's efforts with the ball, the tourists finished on 10-2 in their second innings at the close. Aggers, Michael Vaughan and Carlos Brathwaite discuss the action while Simon Mann gets the thoughts of Burns and Roston Chase. There’s also an interview with Surrey chief Executive Rchard Gould and a Surrey fan as the Oval held the first sporting event in England with a crowd since lockdown began.

A day after being rolled for 67 England's batsmen remembered what this test cricket caper is all about, showing a backbone that was nowhere to be found in the first innings of the third Ashes test in Leeds. The home side learnt from its day two horror show, putting up a determined display with the bat that has kept the faintest hopes of what would be its most remarkable test victory alive.Needing 359 to win, England went to stumps at 156-3, crushing the dreams of Australian supporters who had turned up to Headingley on day three expecting to witness Tim Paine's men hold the urn aloft on English soil for the first time in 18 years. But the champagne is still on ice after a dogged performance, led by under-fire captain Joe Root and, one of many scrapping for their test futures, Joe Denly. After bowling Australia out for 246 – held up by Marnus Labuschagne's excellent 80, his third half century in a row since replacing Steve Smith in the side – the challenge in front of England was a daunting one. It has already exceeded many people's expectations by dragging the match into a fourth day – after all, who would have thought the Poms would still be standing after 72 overs in its second innings, having lasted just 27.5 overs in its first? You would have been even braver to suggest England would be just three wickets down at the close after it slumped to 15-2 shortly after lunch. Rory Burns (7) edged Josh Hazlewood to the safe hands of David Warner at first slip, giving the Aussie opener his fifth catch in that position for the match, and Jason Roy's series from hell continued as he failed to make it to double figures for the fifth time in six attempts. He got himself horribly tangled up trying to defend a Pat Cummins peach that angled in, seamed away and rocked his off stump on eight. But Root and Denly were intent on restoring some of the pride that was washed away by England's worst batting performance in an Ashes test since 1948 and set about defying the Aussie bowlers. Root was back to somewhere near his best, hardly offering a chance as he scored predominantly off the back foot and defended or left anything in a dangerous area alone to finish the day unbeaten on 75.Denly has reached double figures in each dig this series without getting past 30 but finally made a meaningful contribution despite some early jitters. He was cracked on the helmet by Cummins and played and missed several times when attempting loose cover drives that on another day may well have grazed his outside edge. But the 33-year-old rode his luck and showed plenty of grit – as well as oodles of class when punching down the ground or pulling to the mid-wicket boundary – before the short ball brought him undone on 50.His and Root's 126-run, third-wicket partnership was broken when Denly gloved a Hazlewood bouncer to Tim Paine, giving Australia the breakthrough it had been desperately searching for all afternoon. The wicket was the result of sustained pressure from Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon up the other end. They strangled the English batsmen will perfect line and length bowling, conceding just a handful of runs in 10 overs before Denly fell.Ben Stokes came in and was a different man to the one who was out slashing irresponsibly in the first innings, playing with a straight bat and defending almost everything that came down as he clawed his way to two from 50 balls.England can pat itself on the bat for surviving the day and will enter day four needing 203 more runs for victory. It's a highly unlikely proposition – Australia is still the heavy favourite to win – and if the hosts want to square the series up at 1-1 they will have to make history.Their highest ever fourth-innings run chase in England is the 315-4 they pulled off against the Aussies on this very ground back in 2001 when Mark Butcher scored a heroic 173 not out, while England's highest ever successful run chase in tests is its 322-7, also against Australia, in 1928.The odds still point t...
