It was supposed to be a bit easier than it was, but LAFC battled back from 2-1 down late to steal a point at home against St. Louis. It's Episode 357, and if not for Saint Denis, LAFC would be in a world of trouble. Twice down in the match, LAFC needed a dime from Ünder to get Denis his first, and then a bomb from Lloris to put Denis in position for his brace. The rest of the attack? If not for solid set pieces and corners by Denis, there wouldn't be much to talk about. The load is heavy, but, for now, Denis remains up to the task. Also on this episode, it's a late and brief return for Filly! Yay! Frankie Amaya makes his debut, LAFC celebrates the kids, and Ante Razov keeps in real in the presser. Enjoy 357!
15 juli 2018. Frankrijk is wereldkampioen.

Clutch contributions from guys all over the pitch, start to finish, solidify that yes, we are, indeed, EXTREMELY BACK. Campos, Olivera, Martinez, Lloris, Bouanga... everyone brought it. I'm just naming players at this point. We have climbed out of our trench and are building momentum at form at just the right moment, which is why we need to focus on the most important parts of the show which are 1) The HaFoSafo LAFC Watchalong Curse is officially broken, and it was 100% Travis' fault, and 2) Vince and Darren both need to watch classic Gene Hackman movies before they speak again next, which is a thing they did far too much of today. It's Episode 318, and the 2024 edition of the Leagues Cup rolls through BMO. LAFC cuts off the broccoli at the stalk, taking out Austin 2-0 en route to a Round of 16 date with the Smurfs!Denis Bouanga caught Austin's back line napping with his 11th-minute goal off a superb long ball from Hugo Lloris, his first assist since 2010. After a couple of great saves by Lloris, second-half sub Kike Olivera put it in the refrigerator with a deflected strike that bounded up and over Stuver for the nail in the coffin. Hugo would record a clean sheet, Murillo would forget he wasn't a forward, and all 12,000 were whipped into a frenzy as Olivier Giroud was shown on the Jumbotron at BMO. LAFC survives and advances in the 2024 Leagues Cup! Enjoy 318!

One question we've been asked a lot recently is whether or not we're planning to attend and cover any Olympic soccer matches this summer in Paris. We will be in Europe for EURO 2024 in Germany after all. Sadly though, we can't do it all. So, we figured we'd deliver the next best thing. In today's episode we're bringing you a recent conversation with French Football Superfans Pascal, Joris, & Lennie - a father, son and daughter trio we met in Qatar during World Cup 2022. And if you're a fan who pays attention to all the micro-events happening around international soccer - for example, things like the World Cup draw - chances are you've seen at least one of them yourselves. That's because Joris (15) and Lennie (11), under the guidance of Pascal of course, have been footy travelers since at least the age of 2, and they have had some incredibly unique and high profile experiences you're going to love hearing about! They also share some local insights for the upcoming Olympics being hosted in Paris. Foot(y)notes: Watch Joris walk out on stage at the Qatar 2022 World Cup Draw with Didier Deschamps. Follow Pascal, Joris, Lennie, and their continual footy travel adventures on their Instagram account (@FootSouvenir). Here's more info on tickets to Olympic footy this summer in Paris. Zidane's final moments as a footballer... and the video that Pascal avoided for 25 years. *RATE & REVIEW* Wherever you're listening, be sure to hit 'Follow' or 'Subscribe', leave us a star-rating, and if you're listening on Apple Podcasts, leave us a proper review to let others know what you think of the show! *VISIT THE FOOTY TRAVELERS FAN SHOP* Head to our new fan shop to cop an exclusive Footy Travelers 'Away' jersey, or score a custom-designed supporters' scarf. LAFC traveled to the Twin Cities to take on Minnesota United and, stop us if you've heard this before, LAFC was held goalless. Again. In fact, it's been 339 minutes of actual live play since out last goal. Cue the Titanic meme, indeed. A mess of a clearance by Murillo off a set piece given under questionable-at-best circumstances fell to the feet of Robin Lod, who, even with his off-foot, doesn't miss from that close, put the Loons up a goal just after the 15' mark. Flash forward to the 88', and a horror show of a back pass from LAFC finds Bongi Hlongwane, which set him 1v1 with Hugo. Kudos to Lloris for even getting a touch on it, but it wasn't enough to keep Minnesota from doubling the lead. In between, and bookending the goals, for that matter, LAFC could barely muster an offensive whimper. Two shots-on-target and 5 offsides aren't going to cut it. LAFC has to find some answers with Nashville set to enter the fray at BMO next Saturday. Also on this episode, Scarf congratulates Filly on his CBS debut while Filly calls Scarf old. We salute all the LA Marathon runners and finishers, including many of our own in the Black and Gold Running Club. Enjoy Episode 292, and we will see you soon at BMO!
LAFC heads back to the friendly confines of BMO Stadium for a matchup against Peter Vermes-led Sporting Kansas City, the only club to beat LAFC twice at home in the regular season in our club's first 6 years. What we hoped would be a high-scoring match for the Black and GOld quickly turned into a battle of keepers. Former MLS Pool keeper and longtime SKC player Tim Melia was outstanding, making huge save after huge save over the course of 90 minutes to keep LAFC off the board. Our best chance likely came in the 84th minute, as David Martinez shook his man, raced up the left side, and... fired his shot high and deep into the 3252 instead of passing it to Denis Bouanga for an absolute sitter and potential game-winning goal. Ugh. Sporting had their opportunities, but nothing really troubling for Hugo Lloris, as he is able to make all 6 necessary stops en route to his first clean sheet. Also on this episode, we chat briefly about the re-signing of Bouanga, ponder our squad's depth, and Scarf gets a little too excited about a Dio sighting in Los Angeles. This is Defenders of the Banc, and we hope you enjoy Episode 291!
Season 7 is upon us, and our first match of the new year sees us staring down a familiar foe, the Seattle Sounders. Hugo Lloris is Black and Gold, Eduard Atuesta is BACK in Black and Gold, and Carlos Vela still isn't in Black and Gold. But one thing remains the same: LAFC does NOT lose season openers! The match began with another banger of a tifo by The 3252, proceeded by Giorgio Chiellini himself as the match's Honorary Falconer. Jordan Morris wasted no time in welcoming Hugo to MLS, as Lloris needed to make a huge save just minutes into the match. For most of the next hour, LAFC was on the front foot, and goals from Timothy (Himothy?) Tillman and Mati Bogusz on either side of the halftime whistle saw the home side off to a 2-0 lead. Things got interesting after a Seattle penalty kick saw the away side pull within one, but the Sounders never really mustered much more of a threat. LAFC wins the season opener, 2-1! Also on this episode, here's hoping Scarf's theory on Carlos Vela is better than his score prediction, Filly keeps receipts on MLS pundits, and the boys sport retro kits for the first time in several seasons. It feels so good to be back, so please enjoy Episode 289 of Defenders of the Banc!
LAFC wasted no time showing us what they're capable of this season, and shit did it feel good to have a win to celebrate again. No shortage of happy foots from Darren, Vince, callers, and the live chat on our first after party of the season: Atuesta looking like he never left, Lloris looking YOUNG AND SPRY, Bogusz and Tillman dailing in a pair of bangers, SEGURA GETTING MINUTES??? The list goes on. And yes, of course we talk about Ilie's corn rows. And what seems like some kind of massive hair bleach spill in the team locker room. Oh, and the scab refs! You're not gonna believe this, but... they suck! A lot!Join our Patreon and help us keep making this show.Merch available now at HappyFootSadFootPod.com.Twitter: @HaFoSaFoYouTube: @happyfootsadfoot Instagram: @happyfootsadfootTikTok: @happyfootsadfootFacebook: @happyfootsadfootpod Hosted on Acast. What a Sunday of Premier League football. Aaron Paul is joined by former Southampton defender Francis Benali, Aston Villa defender and Scotland captain Rachel Corsie and Luke Edwards of The Daily Telegraph to go through some huge results at both ends of the table. Newcastle moved into the Champions League places after winning at Tottenham. Hear from Eddie Howe as the panel discuss how several players look reborn under the Newcastle boss. Could Callum Wilson be making a late charge to be on the plane to Qatar? Arsenal dropped points for only the second time this season as Southampton held Mikel Arteta's side at St Mary's. Does that ease the pressure on Ralph Hasenhuttl? At the bottom end of the table, Aston Villa ran rampant with a 4-0 win over Brentford. Three goals in 15minutes was a huge statement after the sacking of Steven Gerrard this week. Brentford meanwhile, were 'shambolic' according to their striker Ivan Toney. The pressure continues to build on Jesse Marsch as Leeds lost 2-3 to Fulham at Elland Road. We ask if the Leeds boss could be the next victim of 'sacking season'. But, one man who looks to have eased the pressure on himself is Brendan Rodgers, winning by four goals at Molineux. However, what next for Wolves? One member of the panel predicts there is no way back for them. TOPICS 1'00 Eddie Howe interview 5'00 Was it a foul?
