What We Cover in this Episode What makes Asheville, NC, worth visiting. The best and worst time of year to visit Asheville, NC. A beautiful outdoorsy lodge deemed the best spot to stay in Asheville. What the Asheville Airbnb scene looks like. A fantastic breakfast destination, known for fresh coffee, homemade donuts, and large servings. The best spot in the area for mountain biking. The most gorgeous waterfall trails in the area. The superior taco spot in Asheville, NC. Some of the most fun shops in Asheville, NC, including one that sells plants, coffee, and used books! Kayaking and tubing options throughout town, and why those are the best ways to arrive at New Belgium Brewery. Which of the many breweries in western North Carolina should not be missed. Where to get excellent burgers and views for dinner. The sense of community in Asheville and why it's calling to city folk from all around. Two ice cream destinations that should be on your itinerary. The two most picturesque spots in town. An overrated brewery, restaurant, and hike, and recommended alternative destinations. Quotables “We [were] ready for something different. We were ready for mountains. We say we were nature starved. And anytime you say that in Chicago, people will mention like one place, you can go like out in the suburbs. It's like, no, no, we want like real nature that is accessible. We wanted to be able to get out for a hike whenever we wanted, not to have a drive to do it and make it a big thing.” Sam “I mean, once you come here, we've gone on so many, you know, either like a camping trip or something, or we're just out for a drive, and we're driving back, and I'm like, this would be our vacation. This is where we would vacation. We would vacation in this area, and we get to… every day like I'm so… I feel so lucky to live here.” Sam “Well, if you like beer, it is definitely a beer city. I don't remember the like, you know, per capita breweries, but I think there's over 50 breweries at least at this point. So… you're always within walking distance. But it's really a small town, but still a city.” Sam “What does my husband say?… He says it's the most you will see of drinking in moderation. It's like, everyone's drinking, but you don't witness a lot of like insanity. People are out at breweries, but it's a real family-oriented event, you know, to like hang out at the brewery or out of the park.” Sam “But I think what a big draw is, is that you can be staying downtown and be hiking in under 20 minutes. And if you want to go real far up the Blue Ridge, you can feel like you're in a different state, and that's 45 minutes away. The accessibility of everything, I think, is really a huge draw for here.” Sam “There's a lot of good food. I think that when, when we first moved, people were like, oh, you're gonna miss the, you know, Chicago food and drink, like, oh my God, it's known for it! And I don't miss it.” Sam “New Belgium is the place to be, I'd say for that post kayak kind of beer and entertainment. … I mean, it's amazing there. They've got this huge lawn. They just reopened it. They were the first to close during COVID, but they've just now reopened it, which to me signifies, like, okay, things are okay. Cause it is where you go to meet up with people, hang out on the lawn. “ Sam “It's community. I mean, all of these, any place by the river, any of these breweries, ends up just being like a fun place to hang out and meet people.” Sam “And I laugh when I say, oh, it's all drinking in moderation because my husband and I are back home by eight, cause we have a toddler. So I'm like, what do we know? Maybe it does get like debaucherous after eight pm. But it's not what the town's known for. It is perfectly fine and acceptable; we had our two-year-old's birthday party at Asheville Brewing. Like that's, that's kind of the vibe here. It's very family-friendly. It is very much open to just meeting and connecting.” Sam “I feel like it's this little pocket. It's not too overrun. There's, like you said, there's alternatives for everything. There's the New Belgium and the Sierra Nevada, which are bigger names, or there's these smaller breweries that you would not have heard of unless you have someone that lives here, that you would not seek out on its own. There's plenty to do, a mix of, do you want to walk around downtown or River Arts District, or do you want to go out and not see anyone and go on a hike? So it's going to be whatever you want to make your trip. You can make it totally downtown and people-friendly, or you can be like, I want a peace out and be by myself and go kayaking where I'm not going to see anyone, and you can do both of those trips.” Sam Links to Places Mentioned in this Episode Where the Locals Stay: Bent Creek Lodge Airbnbs: Sam's Asheville Airbnb The Asheville Airbnb Barrett and I stayed in years ago with Pinball Machines Outdoor Destinations Mentioned in this Episode's “Perfect Day”: Blue Ridge Parkway DuPont State Recreational Forest Ridgeline Trail Hooker Falls Triple Falls Trail High Falls Trail River Arts District Kayaking or Tubing on the French Broad River with French Broad Outfitters Catawba Falls Trail Skinny Dip Falls Trail Get the best deals on outdoor adventure tours in the Asheville area on Viator.com Restaurants & Breweries Mentioned in this Episode: Ivory Road Cafe & Kitchen Taco Billy New Belgium Brewing Wedge Brewing Sierra Nevada Brewery Burial Beer Green Man Brewery Wicked Weed Brewing Hi-Wire Brewing The Funkatorium Smoky Park Supper Club Sunshine Sammies Ultimate Ice Cream Company Shops Mentioned in this Episode: Whist Flora Instagram Photo Spots Mentioned in this Episode: The Biltmore The Omni Grove Park Inn Thanks for Listening! Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Nate: Hi Dr. Cabral, I just completed the intestinal cleanse during my CBO protocol, and despite using up to 5 capsules each time by day 2, and doing the whole cleanse for 5 days as per the instructions and plenty of hydration and exercise, I never had more than one bowel movement a day (which is what I was having before the cleanse). The only change was that stools were darker because of the black powder. This response does not seem normal - what can explain it? Does this means I technically did not cleanse the die-off enough? Should I have continued for more days? Any help is much appreciated! Thank you for all you do! Nate Janie: Hello Dr. Cabral, I’m writing in because I am concerned about my HRV. I started wearing a Fitbit a year ago because I was interested in the cardiovascular tracking technology as I have a family history of strokes & cardiovascular problems. I am a 49 year old women, always remained active throughout my life & never struggled with weight gain or fluctuations. I exercise regularly (I powerwalk around 5 miles a day, my steps are often between 15-20k on my tracker), I eat exceptionally well (tons of veggies in my diet), I drink a little coffee and wine but nothing excessive, I have a good home life with low stress but my HRV is in a range between 14-20 & usually on the lower side. Everything that I read says I am way lower than optimal but I do all of the things that it says to do to optimize? I am concerned bc I have read that this can be a warning sign of strokes. Should I talk to a doctor about screening tests or is there anything you would suggest I do to improve my HRV? MacKenzie: Will the environmental toxicity test show if my saline breast implants are causing me to be sick? If so what do I look for on the test to show me that? Sam: What causes skin tags and are there any natural ways to get rid of them? It seems like I get a couple new ones each year. They are very small but can be annoying. Kelsey: I have gilberts syndrome so it’s hard to tell what my fatigue is coming from. I don’t love the idea of having silicone in my body but have extremely uneven breasts so I am scared to get them removed. Are there any tests to test for silicone? Will the environmental toxicity test show me anything? Kenzie: My OAT showed I am deficient in amino acids. What would you suggest? Saw that amino acids or bcaas can cause cancer Thank you for tuning into today's Cabral HouseCall and be sure to check back tomorrow where we answer more of our community’s questions! - - - Show Notes & Resources: http://StephenCabral.com/1926 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral - - - Dr. Cabral's New Book, The Rain Barrel Effect https://amzn.to/2H0W7Ge - - - Join the Community & Get Your Questions Answered: http://CabralSupportGroup.com - - - Dr. Cabral’s Most Popular At-Home Lab Tests: > Complete Minerals & Metals Test (Test for mineral imbalances & heavy metal toxicity) - - - > Complete Candida, Metabolic & Vitamins Test (Test for 75 biomarkers including yeast & bacterial gut overgrowth, as well as vitamin levels) - - - > Complete Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test (Discover your complete thyroid, adrenal, hormone, vitamin D & insulin levels) - - - > Complete Stress, Sleep & Hormones Test (Run your adrenal & hormone levels) - - - > Complete Food Sensitivity Test (Find out your hidden food sensitivities) - - - > Complete Omega-3 & Inflammation Test (Discover your levels of inflammation related to your omega-6 to omega-3 levels) - - - > View all Functional Medicine lab tests (View all Functional Medicine lab tests you can do right at home for you and your family!)
Today I'm answering 4 AMAZING questions straight from YOU in the community! 1. MARTHA: How do you naturally check for ovulation? What are the physical signs? *Bleeding is not a sign of ovulation because your follicles (small sac of fluid) still make estrogen as they grow and try to ovulate and eventually that uterine lining will have to shed. OVULATION is when one of your follicles will grow big enough, is stimulated by LH & finally ruptures & releases an egg. SIGNS OF OVULATION: Egg white consistency, stretchy, stays wet & happens BEFORE OVULATION but can occur anytime estrogen levels are high Basal Body Temperature (waking temp) will SPIKE after ovulation (progesterone raises your temp) & stays high until you get your period about 10-14 days later. Before ovulation your average temperature is about 97-97.7 and will increase about .5 degrees after ovulation. Mid luteal blood test to show higher levels of progesterone 2. SAM: What do you mean when you say cycle phases? We have 4 CYCLE PHASES: 1. FOLLICULAR hormones are low but estrogen, testosterone and FSH (A pituitary hormone that stimulates ovarian follicles to grow)are slowly increasing & stimulating your follicles to make estrogen 2. OVULATION the rise in FSH stimulates the hormones to release an egg Estrogen continues to rise to thicken the lining 3. LUTEAL Progesterone rises. Progesterone counterbalances estrogen- yin to yang. Progesterone thins uterine lining & estrogen thickens it. BENEFITS: reduces inflammation, builds muscle, promotes sleep, protects against heart disease, calms nervous system, supports metabolism, thyroid, skin & hair health. 4. MENSTRUATION hormones decline quickly to their lowest levels 1st half of cycle (follicular & ovulation) you have more energy than 2nd half (Luteal and menstruation) 3. CASSIE: Are slow exercises beneficial or do you need to do intense workouts to make an impact? If you’re in the early stages of managing your PCOS or healing your hormonal imbalances, it’s important to keep your workouts to no more than 30 minutes. The time limitation will prevent excess cortisol production and adrenal fatigue. When you get your heart pumping your body burns glucose in your bloodstream for energy. The supply only lasts about 30 minutes. After that your body turns to your adrenal glands which start pumping out the stress hormone cortisol which converts stored fat into usable glucose so you have the energy to continue working out. If you have unresolved hormonal issues like excess estrogen, the estrogen overload programs your body to convert any circulating glucose back into fat. So instead of burning fat you start storing it. This is more likely to happen in the luteal phase when your body naturally pumps out more cortisol. Long, intense exercises pump SUGAR into the bloodstream to BURN for energy. BUT when you have INSULIN RESISTANCE (when cells in your muscles, fat, & liver don't respond well to insulin & CAN’T use glucose from your blood for ENERGY) the influx of sugar in the blood AND the INCREASE of CORTISOL (a stress hormone) released from a high intensity workout gets stored as FAT instead of burned off as ENERGY!! The result? FATIGUE, FAT STORAGE and WEIGHT GAIN. 4. TRACY: What qualifies as an irregular period? A regular period can range anywhere from 21-35 days. Consistent timing each month (within the 21-35 day range) is what signifies a regular period. Menstrual fluid should be mostly liquid without clots. Day 1 is first day of heavy flow. Follicular phase is anywhere from 7-21 days Luteal phase is between 10-16 days SOURCES: In the FLO by Alisa Vitti Period Repair Manual by Lara Briden Free resources & where can we connect more?! They are the daughters of Vanessa Van Helsing and our heroine immediately goes into “Mama Bear”-mode. Hit play and listen in as Brad and Cort discuss Ep 4x07, "Metamorphosis". Join our growing entrepreneur community on Facebook: www.facebook.com/groups/139597470073188/ Got any questions? Ask me on Facebook: www.facebook.com/AleksanderVitkinPage/ Check out my free business training: www.businessmentor.com Aleksander: Hi, it's Aleksander Vitkin and I'm here with Sam, who's a member of the Business Mentor insiders. Now, Sam has been sitting down and getting some work done lately and his business has started to grow to the point where I'm quite happy about his results so I decided to get him on here to share his results, just tell us how he's doing and which results he's achieved and how you can potentially achieve the same results. So hopefully, we'll learn some stuff from Sam, welcome Sam. So Sam, what type of business do you run? Sam: I run an SEO agency, I have a bunch of different clients and I help them get their website higher in the Google results. Aleksander: What did you do before this business? So before you started the business, what were you doing? Sam: I was still an SEO but I was working as a freelancer for a bigger agency just doing the work they wanted. Aleksander: So you went from working for an agency as a freelancer to starting your own agency essentially, is that right? Sam: Yeah that's true. Aleksander: How was it working for the agency? How did you like it? What were you getting out of it? What was it like? Sam: Well, on the one hand it was low stress they gave me a certain amount of work at the beginning of the week and as long as I did it by the end of the week and everything was fine. So, everything was remote so I could travel a little bit, it wasn't too bad to be honest with you, as far as jobs go. But the pay was pretty bad, it was like a little bit above minimum wage in the UK just because I took a pay cut in order to have it remote and it wasn't really a long term thing it was very much a temporary kind of a job. Aleksander: What is your business like now? Like, what are you getting out of your business? And what is it like running your business right now? Sam: What it's like running my business now is much more stress but much more reward. So the work I've got going on, there's you know, I'm doing a lot more than I was as a freelancer but because I own it everything I'm working on and building is something that I'm doing for me. So there's very much more of a sense of I guess pride and satisfaction from the work but yeah, no it's a lot higher stress. Aleksander: What's the trade off? So there is higher stress and okay, you're responsible for your own business and you're getting all the rewards what is that like? Sam: Pretty awesome, because you know, you're working on lead generation and you're working on sales and the more retainers I sell to people the higher my income goes, right? So it's not like you know, however much work I do I make the average UK wage or anything it's you know, if I sell another retainer then my income goes up by that retainer. It's very rewarding in that sense. Aleksander: How many clients are you working with right now? That pay retainers, essentially. Sam: Sure, so I currently have eleven clients. It's very difficult to manage but I've figured out how to do it I've hired an assistant and everything and yeah no everything is yeah, it's a lot of stress but a lot of rewards, like I say. One of the major benefits of having your source of income being completely online is that you can choose to travel and live wherever you want. You can't just like travel around because it takes away a lot of focus from your business but I, in January I'm moving to Taiwan just because yeah I have friends there and I want to learn the language but yeah so that's my plan at the moment. I'm just gonna be heading out to Barcelona and a couple of other places in Europe.

Hello good people and welcome back! This week we welcome a new mixed nerd/newb to the show, Liz! And we let her pick the movie.... and she went with the latest Chris Pratt/J Law movie Passengers. This weeks questions! 1. All Play – The movie features an android barman that whips up drinks and conversation, what sort of job based android would you like in real life? 2. Stacey – Chris Pratt’s character enjoyed dining out at many different restaurants and spending up large in the bar – yet couldn’t figure out how to get a decent breakfast during his year alone, why? 3. Stacey – Do you feel like humans have too greater of a faith in technology 4. Stacey – Given the way things are heading on Earth, how many years are we away from needing this type of life preserving service? 5. Sam – Which character would you get to represent you in court? 6. Sam –Andy Garcia appears at the end and doesn’t say a word, what’s your favourite inexplicable/off beat/unusual movie cameo of all time? 7. Sam – Do you think these two ruined the ship for the others when they woke up? 8. Liz – In the movie, Aurora's character falls in love with Jim. Some critics argued this was because of Stockholm Syndrome. Which celebrity do you think you'd never fall in love with no matter how long you were stuck on a spaceship with them and why? 9. Liz – You are one of the passengers on the ship.. What's the most likely reason you're leaving Earth? 10. Liz – Jim plays a DDR type game and basketball to keep entertained on board the ship. What games could keep you entertained for ninety years? 11. Stacey – Re-cast your least preferred lead character. 12. Stacey – It doesn’t take humans very long to start going crazy in solitary confinement – what’s the longest you have ever been or could survive completely alone? 13. Stacey – How would you incorporate Nicholas Cage into this movie? 14. Sam – Did you think that the name “Aurora” was bit of a weird name for a character? 15. Sam – Would either of you girls have forgiven Chris Pratt? 16. Sam – What type of pizza is this movie? 17. Liz – If you were Jim and decided to wake someone up, how would you pick that person? 18. Liz – In the movie the Martian, Mark pretty much only eats potatoes for a year. In Passengers, Jim was served up an unappetising cube for breakfast every day. Which would you rather? 19. Liz – What would be the best thing about being stuck on the Avalon for the rest of your life? 20. All Play – How do you think Jim and Aurora are getting on 5 years after we left them? Find us on... SAM: He was rude to his mother more than once – and said “You’re not my father” to his step-father. LUKE: Jesus was the model working man. SAM: Doing what? He was impoverished, never held a job that we know of. Ran around with the wrong crowd and kept company with sinners and criminals! SAM: with the simple exception of priests, Pharisees, pigeon sellers, the wealthy, the religious, the Roman government, and anyone who suggested that they might know how to live a pious life! SAM: He was a man who called himself the Son of Humanity! LUKE: In his majesty we see God at work SAM: In his humility we see God in person! LUKE: That’s why he was worshipped and adored! SAM: That’s why he was tortured and crucified! LUKE: Jesus isn’t here now SAM: He rose on the third day. LUKE: So we have to wait until he comes again. SAM: But he sent his example to guide us. LUKE: He will bring the Kingdom of God with him. SAM: We have to celebrate his love and acceptance! LUKE: We have to save souls and tell people where they are sinning! SAM: We need to look at our own lives and find the path to good and grace. LUKE: We need to be religious leaders! SAM: We need to be faithful followers! LUKE: We need to stand up and be counted! SAM: Humbly! LUKE: Onward – Christian soldiers! SAM: Onward – Peaceful servants! LUKE: We are a mighty army! SAM: We are the Body of Christ! LUKE: It is of supreme importance -- SAM: That we get our image of Jesus – ALL: RIGHT
As the Director of Audience Engagement at Peppercom, Sam works with companies to better listen to, empathize with, understand, and serve their customers and other key audiences through communications and storytelling. There are three major components to Sam’s job: Client consulting Design thinking (and how it applies to communication) Writing, speaking, and being on industry board (-> this one is probably my favorite!) [iframe style="border: none" src="//html5-player.libsyn.com/embed/episode/id/3479372/height/100/width/480/theme/standard/direction/no/autoplay/no/autonext/no/thumbnail/yes/preload/no/no_addthis/no/" height="50" width="1000" scrolling="no" allowfullscreen webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen oallowfullscreen msallowfullscreen] Sam was introduced to me by Josh Green, remember Josh from Episode #2 back in November 2014? Sam and Josh co-authored the book Spreadable Media: creating value and meaning in a networked culture. When you hear the word "media", you may already be thinking about the other word "viral". But viral indicates or hints at that people don’t even have to try to pass that content around. That’s not how culture works, that’s just how virus works. One of the many interesting POVs from this book confirms: "The act of sharing, critiquing, passing along are profoundly creative. It also gives people a great deal of pleasure and drive people’s engagement." - Sam Ford So the first question I had to ask Sam: What was the process like for Sam to combine his knowledge and experience from academia, consulting, journalism (in pop culture) to do what he does today? Furthermore, how does Sam navigate his career path to become the Director of Audience Engagement? Whether you are already in marketing, advertising, consulting, or running your own business, working in other industries, Sam’s words of wisdom speak to all walks of life. It was a tremendous learning experience for me. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did. If you can't t finish this interview in one seating, make sure that you come back to the second half when Sam reveals his prediction and analysis for what’s next for the social sphere beyond Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Quora, etc. This is popular question clients would ask. We also dove into the idea of collective intelligence, crowdsourcing, which can be very powerful but also terrifying at the same time. "Everything is a tradeoff" Sam says, "and that tradeoff fascinates me." Last but not least, Sam and his family live in Kentucky. Sam offers some great advice that left me feeling very intrigued. If you’d like Sam to further elaborate on topics mentioned in this episode, please drop me a note via this blog post, or Facebook, Twitter. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/feisworld/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/feisworld/support

He is also introducing a new EPA Indoor Air Quality label for the housing industry linked to ENERGY STAR Qualified Homes and an advanced technology new home program called Climate Choice for elite builders. Sam: So Liz, are you going to go to the doctor, or do I have to take you myself? Liz: Yes, yes, I'm planning on going. You don't have to force me; believe me, I feel terrible. Sam: Well, you look terrible. Liz: Oh thanks! That makes me feel better. Sam: You know what I mean. Look, you've had a temperature for two days, you have a sore throat, and you have no energy. If I were you, I would go immediately. Liz: Yes, I suppose you're right. It's just that.... Sam: What? Liz: I hate hospitals, and clinics, and needles, and pills.... Sam: So do I. I don't even like smell of hospitals, but what choice do you have? If you delay seeing a doctor, you might end up with an infection. And you know what that means. Liz: Yes, antibiotics.
