THANKS TO ANDREW FOR MAKING THE INTRO SONG. (soundcloud.com / andoryukesuta)@andoryukesuta In the year 3000, the salvage spaceship Mother III happens upon the derelict transport Demeter. Captain Van Helsing and his crew board the abandoned ship. They explore the bridge and find the corpse of the Demeter's Captain tied to a chair and clutching a crucifix. Despite the misgivings of the crew, particularly intern Mina Murry and vice-captain Aurora, the Captain claims salvage rights and decides to tow the ship back to Earth. As the crew prepares to return, Mother III suddenly uncouples from the Demeter, leaving them stranded with no means of communication. Later, cargo specialist "187" and deckhand "Humvee" discover a cargo bay full of coffins. 187 speculates that the coffins could contain smuggled goods and opens one, only to find sand. Humvee heads back to the bridge while 187 stays to open the other coffins; he's soon mysteriously attacked. The crew rushes to 187's aid, only to find that he's now a vampire. Under orders from his "master", 187 vows to kill the entire crew. Aurora, fleeing 187, runs into the "master", a vampire named Count Orlock. Aurora makes her way to a recreation room, where she reports her encounter with Orlock and reveals his intentions to return to Earth. Upon questioning, she's unable to explain how she escaped Orlock unharmed. Thinking that Aurora could be lying, the Captain ties her up, and Humvee guards her. Soon, 187 gains entrance and attacks Humvee, who manages to stake him in the heart with a pool cue. Aurora, still tied up, confesses that she's an undercover android cop investigating salvage activities. This is why Orlock didn't bite her, as he sensed that she had no actual blood flow. The Captain and Humvee feel betrayed but untie her, thinking that they can use her as a weapon against Orlock, due to her immunity against vampirism. Searching the ship's database, the Captain and the Professor, who uses a wheelchair, discover that the legendary vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing was one of the Captain's ancestors. The Professor believes that Orlock will seek revenge against the Captain. The Captain learns how vampires can be stopped and decides to steer the Demeter on a course towards a binary star system. Orlock soon confronts the Captain and Aurora. Aurora leaves to rally reinforcements, leaving the Captain to fight Orlock alone. Orlock eventually gains the upper hand and turns the Captain into a vampire. Aurora and Humvee return, only to be attacked by the Captain. Aurora stakes him with another cue stick, but Mina (now a vampire herself) attacks, allowing Orlock to escape. Humvee dispatches Mina. The Professor, despairing of his chances of survival, finds Orlock, who promises to free him from his disability in return for aiding Orlock's return to Earth. When Aurora and Humvee return to the bridge, they find the Professor passed out. Aurora stabs him with a cross, revealing that he was a vampire. A furious Orlock tries to enter the bridge, but Humvee and Aurora close the door on him, cutting off his arm in the process. As the Demeter draws closer towards one of the binary stars, Humvee and Aurora confess to each other that neither knows how to pilot the ship. Knowing they are about to die, they take comfort in the fact that Orlock's plan to return to Earth has been foiled. Aurora reveals that she was originally a sexbot before being upgraded to be a cop, meaning she can give Humvee some solace before the end. Humvee accepts the offer and they spend their remaining time having sex.
Abraham Van Helsing visits England for some relaxation but the all-girls refining school at nearby Ralls reports some troubling events. One of their young students was carnally assaulted in the night and she is already showing signs of labour. While the doctor and nurse's assume there must be some mistake or deception, Van Helsing believes there may be something darker at work. He must prepare them to face an ancient evil that even he has never battled before.

This week's Theme Park News: - Halloween Horror Nights at both Universal Studios Florida and Hollywood will feature an all-female house called Universal Monsters: Eternal Bloodlines this year. It will feature The Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula's Daughter - Countess Marya, She-Wolf of London, and the mummified Egyptian princess Anck-Su-Namun, as well as a new foe - Saskia Van Helsing, the daughter of Dracula-killer Abraham Van Helsing. - We also saw two more scare zones announced for Orlando with Duality of Fear and Demon Queens. Duality of Fear will offer fans a choice, with universal saying "As soon as you enter the gates of Halloween Horror Nights, you must choose a path: follow SINIST3R, the manifestation of visceral horror. Or follow SURR3AL, the incarnation of unearthly terror." Demon Queens sits in the same universe as Duality of Fear: "Get caught in an otherworldly hellscape ripped from the darkest corners of your mind. Four merciless queens loyal to SURR3AL rule, surrounded by hordes of fanatical followers." - Revenue dropped more than 10% at Universal's theme parks during the second quarter of 2024, compared with the same period last year. Its theme parks brought in a measly $1.975 billion in revenue for the three months to June 30, 2024. That's down just over 10% from the same period in 2023, when the parks brought in $2.209 billion. - - Disneyland and it's labor unions have reached attentive agreement this week. The Master Services Council with represents the four unions said that the deal includes "a three-year contract that contains significant wage increases for all cast members, seniority increases and additional premiums as well as the retention of premiums". - Disneyland is also re-opening it's Haunted Manion ride on Monday, after being closed since the start of the year. It is returning as it's Haunted Manion Holiday variety July 28th. - Deadpool has started appearing for a limited time at Avengers Campus Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris and Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort this week. This is obviously to promote the new Deadpool and Wolverine movie. - Our first change from the merge of Six Flags and Cedar Fair happened this week, with Six Flags Entertainment Corporation eliminating a guest surcharge fee on in-park food, beverage, and retail purchases at the legacy Six Flags theme parks. Cedar Fair did not charge these fees.

After making The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, Stephen Sommers wanted to make a small movie; no monsters, no action, no visual effects, just something simple, but then he started thinking about all the Universal monster movies he loved as a child, and came up with a collective story of three monsters, connected by one man - Van Helsing - but not the Abraham Van Helsing you knew....Gabriel Van Helsing would be serving alongside Dracula with the Knights of the Holy Order before having to kill him. He would ask for his memories to be removed to purge himself of his sins, and end up walking the Earth for 400 years with no memories and end up at the Vatican. Hugh Jackman, fresh from playing Wolverine in X-Men, would be Van Helsing, and when Universal realised what they had, thoughts of a franchise appeared in front of them...It would be Universal's Dark Universe, before Universal's Dark Universe....I would love to hear your thoughts on Van Helsing (2004) !CONTACT.... Van Helsing is a 2004 action horror film written and directed by Stephen Sommers. It stars Hugh Jackman as monster hunter Van Helsing and Kate Beckinsale as Anna Valerious. Van Helsing is both an homage and tribute to the Universal Horror Monster films from the 1930s and 1940s (also produced by Universal Pictures which were in turn partially based on novels by Bram Stoker and Mary Shelley), of which Sommers is a fan. Escuchar audio
Listen, I'm not normally one for the whole style of epilogue that comes up at the end of this book, but I really think it shines here! Not every book earns just how that end changes the context of the original final scene, but given the absolute MESS the gang went through, I think they deserve a little comfortable time. And no, I wouldn't call that a spoiler, you don't know how they got to that epilogue! This is a really REALLY long episode, but I couldn't help myself, felt silly to break the book up into one more week of waiting, in the moment! Hope everything came together alright! In this, our pentultimate dive into Dracula, we find that there's no shortage of good old fashioned american gusto. Yep, our good friend Quincy Morris has returned to the story, and in stereotypical fashion, rather than listening to the expert on the matter of vampiric weaknesses, he just straight up SHOOTS AT DRACULA! Fun fact, in an early draft of the book, Quincy was supposed to show up with a WHOLE MACHINE GUN in the final act! Not kidding, you can look it up! What a wild twist that would have been, huh? Anyway, renfield is going through it too, so stick around to hear about that! Want to read along with us? We were all waiting on bated breath for this one, I think. When is the mask on this terror going to come off, how are things going to resolve with Lucy, when's Van Helsing going to show up, the tension was ratcheting rapidly! Just because we've reached a small resolution on those, dear listener, don't think the thrills and chills are quite over with, no no! This book's still got a whole 'nother act behind it, and there's a few details from the section early on with the paprika and shaving mirrors that comes back (and what comes back may surprise you!) Personally, I'm surprised nobody has really put in the funds for a more aggressively accurate to the book adaptation, honestly. I hear good things about Bram Stoker's Dracula from the 90's, but I must admit, I have trouble picturing Keanu Reeves as our blorbo Johnathan. It's not a lack of acting chops, guy pulls off Neo AND Ted, more a shortage of my imagination, I expect some wet cat energy, real cheekbones and flop hair type vibes! Want to read along with us? If you can believe it, this episode was originally at least an hour longer! I put in a lot of leg work on this one, splicing sentences, cutting distractions and side-tangents, and most of all, refining the crackle for the Seward sections of the book. I really like how this one came together, even if I had to ditch the 20-plus minute long diversion into the history of hypnotism, and how it arose from studies on mesmerism, animal magnetism, and generalized occultist whatnot. To be fair, it's probably for the best, given the depth of my research being a long wikipedia hole, but still! Anyway, if you really want the digressions, discussions, and most of the chat interaction back, I can't cut things out of the youtube VODcast, so there's always a way to find me wandering off topic. This book has a lot of ancillary "huh, I didn't know that!" or "Actually, at the time this was written, it could mean XYZ!" that came with it, and I think it's an interesting line between what's worth making the feed, and what isn't! As we work our way further into this much-beloved vampire tale, we find that there's a reason an overly-devoted minion of a monster is occasionally called a Renfield! That's right, we're spending more time with everyone's favorite counting-obsessed cuckoo, and boy will you hate what he's up to with those flies! Outside of our time with Doctor Seward, there's plenty else happening, for that matter. Where's all Lucy's blood going? What's up with her mom? will that american guy show up again? I love finding all these little details that get left out of adaptations, they're so fun to think about how and why they're not there. Funny how these episodes are coming out right after the end of Dracula Daily, huh? What a ride that was, watching the internet learn stuff I had learned a few weeks ago! Want to read along with us? The story of Dracula is an epic. It is with that in mind, the Storytelling Breakdown team is bringing you the biggest episode we've ever produced. Our four hosts stepped into the roles of Dracula and three of the hunters pursuing the vampire for this Halloween episode. The game is an ongoing tabletop cat and mouse dynamic. Stephen played Count Dracula, evading the hunters at every opportunity, while leaving destruction in his wake. Caleb played Lord Godalming or Arthur Holmwood, whose resources were used to their fullest potential taking the fight to the vampire's deadliest lairs. Jacob Ganser is back on the podcast, this time taking on the role of Dr. John Seward, attempting to crack the psychology of the dreaded undead before he can make more cracks in the psyches of the hunters. Ben played Dr. Abraham Van Helsing, Dracula's feared nemesis, providing the hunters with the knowledge and tools necessary to stand resolute against evil. Last, Larissa played Mina Harker, whose quest to destroy Dracula is also a quest to regain her agency, from the count, the game design, and the original source material provided by Bram Stoker. Will the intrepid hunters succeed in destroying Dracula before his machinations corrupt all of Europe? There is only one way to find out. Interview with the Vampire (2022) and Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) are the subjects of this episode's Spotlight. Our audio play is based on “Dracula”, a novel by Bram Stoker and published in 1897. It has no single protagonist, but opens with solicitor Jonathan Harker taking a business trip to stay at the castle of a Transylvanian nobleman, Count Dracula. Harker escapes the castle after discovering that Dracula is a vampire, and the Count moves to England and plagues the seaside town of Whitby in North Yorkshire. A small group, led by Abraham Van Helsing, hunt Dracula and, in the end, kill him. Stoker produced over a hundred pages of notes for the novel, drawing extensively from Transylvanian folklore and history. There is widespread disagreement on who the character of Dracula was based on, although Stoker's notes mention that he found the name Dracula in Whitby's public library while holidaying there, picking it because he thought it meant “devil” in Romanian.
If someone gifts you the diary of Dr. Abraham Van Helsing, be prepared to fight the forces of evil. We're streaming this on Paramount + (via Amazon). So grab a virgin, if you know any, for a fun incantation.
Have you ever been completely enthralled by the plot of a story? Wrapped up in the dynamic character development and captivated by a scintillating twist? Well this is not what we are talking about now. No, we are talking about Abraham Van Helsing's penchant for somehow managing to completely avoid the plot while also making snide commentary from the sidelines. Well not this time, thanks to some fancy DMing by our very own Logan aka Kaos' puppet master, we have finally trapped him and wrapped him up in engaging plot lines and inescapable exposition. Join us as we see what he does. In/Outro by Daniel Furniss
Alright, onto a seasonally appropriate classic, Dracula! This book just kept surprising me, I'll be honest, you really think you know a book from a few modern adaptations but there's so much more to unpack here! This episode really dives deep into the little details of the internet's favorite blorbo, Johnathan Harker, and the great time he had getting that delicious recipe for paprika hendl. I won't lie, I do very much want to make myself some paprika hendl after that description. Also a highlight: little unorthodox culinary advice from Renfield! We'll see if I manage to catch up to where Dracula Daily is at with the posted episodes, I got ahead of it pretty quickly in the live recording anyway! Want to read along with us? Dracula by Bram Stoker audiobook. The classic vampire story by Bram Stoker revolves around a struggle between good and evil, tradition and modernity, and lust versus chastity. The author didn't invent vampires, but his novel has so captured the public's imagination that he is rightly considered their popularizer. Listen and you will meet not only the Count himself, but heroes Jonathan Harker and Abraham Van Helsing, plus an array of madmen, psychiatrists, and fair maidens who cross paths with the fanged menace.

The Hound of the Baskervilles was a film adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's 1902 Sherlock Holmes novel of the same name. The inspiration for choosing to review and watch this film was my sister buying me the complete works of Sherlock Holmes for Christmas. The movie stars the excellent Peter Cushing, best known as Baron Frankenstein, Grand Moff Tarkin, and Abraham Van Helsing. Christopher Lee is best known for playing Count Dracula, Count Dooku, Francisco Scaramanga, and Saruman the White. The dependable theatre actor André Morell, the often villainous Francis de Wolff, and Italian actress Marla Landi. The film's plot begins with Doctor Richard Mortimer asking Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson's help in investigating the death of his friend Sir Charles Baskerville. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/collin-sugg/message
It's time once again for Spook Retorts! Sam kicks off this year with the 1987 ensemble monster movie The Monster Squad. We start in Transylvania where Abraham Van Helsing is attempting to banish Dracula and his menagerie of armadillos using a glowing amulet and a teen girl. Van Helsing fails spectacularly, for reasons that are entirely opaque, and Dracula decides to lay low for one hundred years. That's just enough time for a group of snarky and unfortunately homophobic kids to form a monster club in small town America. These kids are somehow very selective for membership in their monster club, even though it seems to require only the barest minimum of basic monster knowledge to join. One of the kids comes into possession of Van Helsing's journal which immediately makes them a target for Dracula, who is assembling a coterie of monster, which is, bafflingly, not the titular monster squad. After encountering the mummy, hearing about a werewolf, and befriending Frankenstein's monster, the children decide to form the Monster Squad to take on Dracula using the instructions in Van Helsing's journal and, worryingly, a fair bit of sexual blackmail. So join Sam and Danielle the premiere of this year's Spook Retorts that will having you rooting for the monsters to defeat the real evil: Human children.

Dracula - Bram Stoker - Book 1, Part 3 Title: Dracula Overview: Dracula is a novel by Bram Stoker, published in 1897. As an epistolary novel, the narrative is related through letters, diary entries, and newspaper articles. It has no single protagonist but opens with solicitor Jonathan Harker taking a business trip to stay at the castle of a Transylvanian noble, Count Dracula. Harker escapes the castle after discovering that Dracula is a vampire, and the Count moves to England and plagues the seaside town of Whitby. A small group, led by Abraham Van Helsing, hunt Dracula and, in the end, kill him. Dracula was mostly written in the 1890s. Stoker produced over a hundred pages of notes for the novel, drawing extensively from Transylvanian folklore and history. Some scholars have suggested that the character of Dracula was inspired by historical figures like the Wallachian prince Vlad the Impaler or the countess Elizabeth Báthory, but there is widespread disagreement. Stoker's notes mention neither figure. He found the name Dracula in Whitby's public library while holidaying there, picking it because he thought it meant devil in Romanian. Following its publication, Dracula was positively received by reviewers who pointed to its effective use of horror. In contrast, reviewers who wrote negatively of the novel regarded it as excessively frightening. Comparisons to other works of Gothic fiction were common, including its structural similarity to Wilkie Collins' The Woman in White (1859). In the past century, Dracula has been situated as a piece of Gothic fiction. Modern scholars explore the novel within its historical context—the Victorian era—and discuss its depiction of gender roles, sexuality, and race. Dracula is one of the most famous pieces of English literature. Many of the book's characters have entered popular culture as archetypal versions of their characters; for example, Count Dracula as the quintessential vampire, and Abraham Van Helsing as an iconic vampire hunter. This is a good show. It also helps that I love vampire shows. I actually had a script for this episode here it is. Hey guys and welcome to episode 12 of Watcha gonna watch. The lucky show we're reviewing today is... van Helsing. so first we have our rating and I give van Helsing a 9.9/10. because... And now we have the description. In this reimagining of the classic Dracula story, the world is dominated by vampires, requiring humans to work together to survive. The series centers on Vanessa Helsing, daughter of famed vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing, who wakes up after a five-year coma to discover a vampire-controlled world. She soon learns that she possesses a unique blood composition that makes her immune to vampires and able to turn the creatures into humans. That power puts humanity's last hope to return the world to how it once was before the vampires took over in Vanessa's hands. So that is the description and if you like vampires then this is the show for you. Anyway, that wraps up today's episode of watch gonna Witch. This movie has all the fixin's of something we may like, Hugh Jackman, director of the Mummy, and interesting characters, like Abraham Van Helsing and Dracula. Then this movie shits the bed. Remember us, Listener?? This week on Big Town, Jesse and Josh share stories from their shameful pasts as narcissistic school students. This leads to improvised scenes about a saxophone battle, an ingenious college student who just wants to sleep in class, and a boy who had an unfortunate growth spurt over the summer. Then, in an extended narrative improv, it is once again Dracula’s year to throw the famous Monster Mash, but hosting such an event comes with a host of problems, including old loves, monster bullies, and world-famous vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing! Welcome to Dark Discussions podcast. Your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that's fantastic. The year was 1897 and author Bram Stoker had his latest novel, Dracula, published for reader consumption. Though not a sensational hit when first released, it was still a tale worth reading for anyone who enjoyed mainstream novels of the time. Of course years later it is part of the literary canon for anyone who reads classic literature. It has crossed over to be not only joyous pulp but a novel spoken in the same breath as A Tale of Two Cities or Moby Dick. Dark Discussions welcomes once again, Inanna Arthen, author of the novels Mortal Touch and The Longer the Fall and owner of the publishing company By Light Unseen Media. She returns to talk about the most important vampire novel of all time. Though everyone knows such characters as Count Dracula and Abraham Van Helsing, other characters are discussed. Renfield, Dr. Seward, and Lucy Westerna among others are brought into the spotlight. Plus important plot points that have never been filmed are discussed. Though vampires are the main focus, the novel goes above and beyond being just a horror novel. The book brings was a forerunner to steampunk. It included important topics including the dramatic changes in technology during the Victorian Era, a subtext about parental nurturing, sexuality, xenophobia, among others; all while telling a delightful edge-of-the-seat thriller. So take a break from Dracula on screen and learn more about the source of one of the greatest villains of fiction. Director Michael Neel also appears to discuss his feature film Drive-in Horror Show and his upcoming horror animated film, Infinite Santa. As always we welcome your comments: darkdiscussions@aol.com (written email or attached mp3 files) WWW.DARKDISCUSSIONS.COM
