Widespread acceptance that PropTech is an integral part of the real estate landscape today has helped accelerate the adoption of new tech solutions and paved the way for real estate stakeholders to act more nimbly than before, says Sarah Liu, partner on the Real Estate Technology Investment team at venture capital firm Fifth Wall.“Instead of having to wait sometimes maybe more than a year in order to get a decision, we are seeing folks able to test and pilot technology with a speed to deployment of sometimes just a matter of weeks,” Liu told the REIT Report.Liu noted that four or five years ago, the annual amount invested into PropTech was around $4 billion; by last year that number had risen to about $30 billion.Turning to areas where Fifth Wall is collaborating with REITs in PropTech adoption, Liu pointed to investments in electric vehicle charging and property management, including maintenance and renovation. She noted that there are more opportunities for collaboration that haven't yet been tapped, or are still at the early stages, such as sensor tech and improved building management systems.

What happens when you have a group of like-minded people with similar backgrounds and experiences working in your business? You'll end up with all the same solutions to all your problems, and very little space for innovation. However, take a closer look at the likes of Uber, Netflix and Airbnb, and you'l see that diversity was the crucial ingredient for disruption - in fact, none of their founders were originally from the industries they disrupted in the first place. This is what our next guest on The Make It Happen Show, Sarah Liu, calls "The Outsider Advantage". When you have a diverse lineup of talent in your business, that diversity will flow into all the areas of your business, resulting in fresh and innovative ideas that you might have never thought of yourself. Sarah is the Founder of The Dream Collective, a global leadership consultancy for diversity and inclusion. In this interview, she will open up your mind to the power of diversity, no matter where you are in your business journey. This is a must-listen episode, let's dive into it. Sarah Liu is the founder and MD of global diversity and inclusion consultancy agency, The Dream Collective. She began her entrepreneurial journey at the age of 24 when she founded The Dream Collective. What began as a mere passion project, quickly became Australia’s most influential network of high-calibre young women. Through this networking platform, The Dream Collective has been responsible for empowering and equipping thousands of professional women into leadership roles through leadership training and mentoring opportunities. Sarah discusses how execs can break down invisible d&i barriers and how the Dream Collective can assist organisations to foster ambition among up and coming female talent. The business pivoted a number of times, as they started off mainly as an events group. They would invite senior executives and speakers to come and speak about various topics. Sarah says of the next step in the business development: 'That was okay, we had good attendance and growth, but it got to a point where I felt that wasn’t having the biggest impact. People were only being inspired once every two or three months, and they needed support every day, we realised having the bottom up approach was not having the greatest impact, so that’s when the business pivoted'. 'We also had to start to look at ways to monetise it and scale it properly. We ended up with a business-to-business model where companies nominate their top talent to go into our program and go through our training course. The conversation around female empowerment is a lot more mature and sophisticated, and people are understanding it’s time to put action behind it'.

Do women politicians inspire others? Does women's representation in politics lead to higher female political engagement? Well, it depends on the context. In countries where women have thrived in politics and in social status, then yes, it can have a positive impact. But in countries where women's social status lags behind political advancement, then women representatives do not inspire women's political engagement! Sarah is an amazing woman of God. Not only is her story powerful, but she is extremely humble and kind. In this episode, Sarah answers some common questions that you may have about the Christian persecution in China. Some of the questions Sarah answers are, Why are people hostile to Christians in China?, How do non-Christians (not in power) in China view the persecution of Christians?, How many people are coming to the Lord through the persecution of Christians?, and What was your reaction of coming to America?. Sarah’s Story This is a short documentary on Sarah Liu’s story and the persecution in China. Sarah’s Trail of Blood by Voice of the Martyrs. If you can’t see this video in your RSS reader or email, then click here. 3 ways Sarah recommends to support the persecuted Church Pray for the persecuted Christians around the world. Many people undermine prayer because they just don’t do it. We say that we believe in the power of prayer, but it is easy to forget to actually pray. I’m guilty myself, but Sarah encouraged us in the episode to pray for the persecuted Christians around the world. We as Christian leaders need to understand that prayer is the most effective thing to do for the persecuted Church. Use your God given gifts to help. I love the different parts of the body of Christ (1 Cor. 12) because we all have unique relationships, skills, resources, and gifts that allow us to help serve others, especially persecuted Christians in suppressed countries. God has given you a unique opportunity to serve the Church, so use your gifts for his Glory. Bring awareness to your church. Now that you know about the persecution that goes on in many countries, including China, you can share this with your circle of influence to spread awareness of the injustice. Voice of the Martyrs has many excellent resources to share with the people in your church. Many times bringing to light issues of social injustice starts with a passionate spokesperson. Scriptures Mentioned “Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”” (Matthew 16:24–28, ESV) “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” (James 1:2–4, ESV) Subscribe to the Podcast Subscribe in iTunes Link to Stitcher Share What You Like If you enjoyed the show, please rate it on iTunes and write a brief review.
