In this episode of The Writing Life podcast, NCW Chief Executive Peggy Hughes is joined by author and professional campaigner Sarah P Corbett to discuss craftivism, a form of activism and collective empowerment that is centered on practices of craft. Sarah P Corbett is an activist, author, speaker, and the founder of Craftivist Collective. She is known for developing the 'gentle protest' approach to activism, which is activism that is slow, attractive, kind, strategic and deeply engaging. She is the author of three books on craftivism and her new book, The Craftivist Collective Handbook, which was published on 2 May 2024. Together, Peggy and Sarah discuss her new book, The Craftivism Collective Handbook, which features instructions for twenty craftivism projects, and delves into the methodology on gentle craftivism. They also touch on how craft can provoke people to think about social change, the links between craftivism and wellbeing, and how social media enabled her to build a strong community of craftivists.
Voice No. 20....1/5th the way through our 100 Voices and here we have a very rare and unique Voice sharing insight into something hardly ever discussed or even known about. The delightfully optimistic and life-loving Sarah sharing her journey of having two very rare conditions (one of which linked to a genetic mutation) - HNPP (Hereditary Neuropathy With Pressure Palsies) and Hypermetabolism. These two conditions are unrelated but complicate each other. At 31 Sarah went from being a healthy mum with no health issues, began a weight loss journey which was a healthy choice in response to being overweight. However after a bought of Covid things went drastically wrong. In 6 months Sarah went from a size 18 down to a size 4. Even when Sarah stopped dieting the weight continued to fall, and was dismissed by many health care professionals labelling her as having an eating disorder. Eventually Sarah was diagnosed with hypermetabolism and her body needs 5000 (more than double) her daily requirements just to maintain her weight. As a result Sarah has a permanent Jej tube and is both tube fed and eats normally. In addition to this Sarah developed a foot drop, numbness and multiple neurological symptoms, resembling MS. Sarah was diagnosed with HNPP which for Sarah means she has demyelination of her peripheral nerves and a very severe form leaving her permanently disabled.Despite all this Sarah realised she had two options - to go on a negative spiral or choose a positive spiral. Sarah deliberately seeks joy in every single day and embraces life to the fullest. After facing her mortality several times, Sarah has such a powerfully strong philosophical approach to life "Everyone has two lives. The second one begins when you realise you only have one". Sarah's amazing story of strength includes how she copes as a parent with a disability, how she delivered her own baby and resuscitated him herself, and how she manages not only as a disabled mum but a disabled mum with a disabled child. Her strength and love of life is inspiring and we are honoured to have her share her story with us and be one of the Mortal And Strong charity ambassadors.Mortal and Strong is a campaign shining the spotlight on women facing their own mortality - those affected at a young age by a life changing illness or disease. 100 artworks produced by artists across the country along with a powerful photography series ‘Scars of Gold' inspired by kintsugi. The voices will share their stories through the podcast released bi-weekly. Through the project Mortal And Strong will be featuring and collaborating with up to 20 chosen charities that are linked with the topics discussed in the project - to raise awareness of their work, fundraise for them with our exhibition and signpost people to right places for support. In this first episode of Living with Freedom by Amber S of Living with Freedom ministries we'll kick off this new series with an intro to what you can expect form the show, chatting with Sarah P about when the real Independence Day was (hint, it isn't July 4th!) and why knowing the history of the celebration is relevant in our lives today. We'll also have an inspiring reading to get into the true spirit of the day and what exactly we are celebrating besides fireworks, cookouts, and summertime.
Sarah gets so vulnerable and transparent in this episode and opens up about mental health and gives advice from experience. It is one you won't want to miss! Sleep plays such a role in mental health and well being and it is something that cannot be ignored. If you're tired learn to rest not quit - Banksy Today was a cry in the car day. I've been surrounded by littles far too much, Finn pooped his pants at a friends (I'm not mad at all that just happens) but it was still shitty
Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Introducing Artists of Impact, published by Fernando MG on March 25, 2023 on The Effective Altruism Forum. TL;DR Announcing a new EA-Aligned org to promote effective giving by leveraging the social influence and resources of professional and celebrity artists. Intro Hello EA Forum! My name is Fernando. I'm a professional ballet dancer who's excited to announce the launch of our new organization, Artists of Impact! We promote effective giving by leveraging the social influence and resources of professional and celebrity artists. Modeled largely off of High Impact Athletes, we help professional artists understand the power of effective giving and the importance of thinking critically about using their platform and resources to have a greater social impact. We connect them with EA-aligned organizations that they resonate with, support their high-impact donation and advocacy efforts, and leverage their platforms to inspire their fans to do the same! The arts community in general does a great job of advocating for different causes. However, these tend to reflect a more personal approach to philanthropy, which often prioritizes proximity and familiarity over impartiality and cost-effectiveness. As such, we hope to insert ourselves into that equation, leverage the motivations that we already see prevalent throughout the artistic community, and point them towards higher-impact opportunities. We're currently working on formalizing our organizational strategy, but we wanted to make this announcement ASAP so that the community is aware of what we're trying to do and can reach out if they have any ideas or people they think we should hear and connect with! We're excited to share more information about our theory of change, pilot projects, budget, etc. in a future post and we hope that you'll be excited to keep up with us as we continue to grow and learn as an organization! How you can help! Funders We're currently bootstrapping operations and actively seeking funders to help provide a 6-12 month runway to test out the assumptions underlying our Theory of Change and continue building up our social presence. Collaborators We're also seeking collaborators to join our project on a volunteer basis, so if you're excited by our mission and want to help us realize our organizational objectives, reach out! Connections If you know any professional/celebrity artists, we'd love to connect with them! Warm intros have been our most effective outreach method! Get in touch! Follow Us on Social Media and Spread the Word Instagram: @artistsofimpact Twitter: @ArtistsofImpact LinkedIn: @ArtistsofImpact More Info If you'd like to learn more about our project or have any feedback on how to make the project more impactful, comment down below or reach out to me at fernando@artistsofimpact.org Special thanks to Marcus D., Devon F., Sarah P., Neil F., Jeffray B., and too many others to name for all their help in bringing this project to life. As 2022 comes to a close, Ken Fong and Ken Kemp review a powerful new podcast series produced by their mutual friend, Dr. Brad Onishi (Straight White American Jesus) called Charismatic Revival Fury. Written by Institute for Islamic, Christian and Jewish Studies (ICJS), Dr. Matthew D. Taylor, the series reveals a little-known or understood movement that became a major influence in promoting the "Big Lie" (that the 2020 Presidential Election was stolen) called The New Apostolic Reformation. Founded by C. Peter Wagner and Pastor John Wimber in the 1980s and 90s at Ken Fong's alma mater, Fuller Theological Seminary, the movement emerged as prophetic support for the 45th President. It crowns Donald Trump as the biblical King Cyrus, with prophecies of his return to power for a second term, in spite of the legitimate victory of Joe Biden. While the January 6 Committee, the media, and social commentators have poured over evidence that led to the January 6 Insurrection, few have called out the inescapable religious element. It was pervasive in leading up to the event and then right there in plain view: The Jericho Marches prior the assault on the Capitol; Seven Mountain Dominionism; players like Paula White and Lance Wallnau worship leader Shaun Feucht; politicians like Sarah Palin, Mike Pence, Mike Pompeo, Michelle Bachman; Michael Flynn, Steve Bannon, Roger Stone, and Doug Mastriano; all heavily influenced by a massive under-the-radar movement that perverts Christianity into a raw pursuit of political power. And it demonizes anyone who dares challenge the assumptions of "Apostolic Authority." Ken Fong shares some very personal related moments that shaped his life and ministry then - and to this day.Charismatic Revival Fury: The New Apostolic ReformationOn The Media - The Divided DialBecome a Patron: www patreon.com/beachedwhitemaleSupport the show

Bon vendredi! S6E8: “Hospitable Leadership” with Katelyn HargraveWednesday, July 20, 2022PreacHer PodcastPreacHer: Katelyn HargraveSummary: As a woman called to ministry, Katelyn felt repeatedly pushed out, excluded, and heard the message that she did not belong in ministry. She resonates with this man in Mark's Gospel who boldly heals in Christ's name while the insiders try to invalidate his ministry. But the hospitality of Jesus is surprising, inclusive, and reciprocal. About the healer and about Katelyn, Jesus says “they belong, they're doing my work.” To be a Jesus follower is to let go of power and ego and control, and to embrace the subversive leadership and hospitality of Jesus.Resources + Social Media Handles:Katelyn on FBKatelyn on IG here and hereKatelyn's WebsiteAll of Jen Hale Christy's LinksWhat to do next:Join our monthly letter listJoin our Patreon CommunityShare this episode! In this episode I was able to sit down with Sarah and discuss her journey into recovery during the pandemic. Sarah's sobriety started just before the world was rocked with the pandemic in early March of 2020.Sarah had flirted with the idea of sobriety in the past, but had never truly taken the hard step into a recovery process. After a strong night of drinking and waking up tired of her own shit, it was time. After telling her then fiancé that she was going to get sober, she launched herself into the social media sober community and into the journey of getting sober and has been sober ever since. We had the opportunity to discuss what it was like getting sober during a pandemic, growing up in a small town, the madness of alcohol and the effects that is has on not only our anxiety and depression but the effects that is has on prescription medication, and how broadly it numbs our creative outlets.Be sure to follow Sarah and her recovery journey on IG: shestayssober

In this our first episode of our fourth season we had the pleasure of speaking with Sarah Pierre of 3 Parks Wine Shop! In our conversation we talked about: Rosé Growlers Confidence and Standing Tall US Wine Culture Rosé Wine Club So much more! Sarah's Bio Sarah Pierre is the Owner/Managing Partner of 3 Parks Wine Shop in Atlanta, established in 2013. Sarah received a Bachelors of Science from Georgia State University in 2004, but decided shortly after graduation to continue working in restaurants and pursue a career in Hospitality. Sarah grew up being passionate about food and the culinary world surrounding it. Prior to opening 3 Parks Wine, Sarah spent most of her career working and managing in notable restaurants in Atlanta and New York City including, but not limited to Twist Restaurant & Lounge, Houston's Restaurant, Maialino, & Bacchanalia. Her passion for hospitality and her love for food and wine led to the success of 3 Parks Wine Shop. She opened the store with hopes of creating a comfortable, welcoming, and quaint space to purchase wine. A place for wine lovers, and those eager to learn. Her background in restaurant management and hospitality resulted in a wine shop where people spent time, hang out, listen to music, kick back and enjoy wine. It's a nice spin on the average wine retail store. A fun place to be...where everybody knows your name. When Sarah is not in the shop tasting and teaching wines, or just having fun with her customers, she is learning french, dining at all the restaurants, working out, spending time with friends and family, or planning her next big trip. But usually, she's planning a trip. Whether traveling domestic or internationally, Sarah is in her comfort zone. To maintain Sarah's knowledge in the food and wine industry, each year she includes a trip to a wine region spending time with winemakers and local farmers. She is also curating international wine trips where she will be traveling with a group of wine lovers to her her favorite regions. Her goal is to eventually take 2-3 group trips a year! She is also gearing up to take her French Wine Scholar Exam. Sarah has received coverage in print and broadcast including CNN, Thrillist, Eater Atlanta, Mailchimp, Atlanta Journal Constitution, and many more. 3 Parks also recieved top 10 Wine Shops in the US and #1 the South East in 2017! Keep an eye out for “Sarah P's Social Suppers” and her thoughtfully curated 2019 Trip to France! The Last Five Sips: If money were no object, what bottle of wine would you splurge on and why?
