Farmer sentiment dipped again in August as the Purdue University-CME Group Ag Economy Barometer Index fell 10 points to 125. Producers were markedly less optimistic about the future in August as the Index of Future Expectations dropped 16 points to 123. This was the lowest reading for the future index since last September. Purdue ag economists James Mintert and Michael Langemeier share insights into the results of the August 2025 survey, conducted from August 11-15, in this episode of the Purdue Commercial AgCast. Sentiment differed widely among producers depending on whether their farm is primarily a crop operation or a livestock operation. Responses from crop producers this month were much less optimistic than those from livestock producers, which indicates the disparity in profitability between crop and livestock enterprises. Beef cattle operations in particular are experiencing record profitability as the smallest cattle inventory since 1951 has pushed cattle prices to record levels. This stands in sharp contrast to returns for crop production which have weakened in 2025. The Ag Economy Barometer sentiment index is calculated each month from 400 U.S. agricultural producers' responses to a telephone survey. Further details on the full report is available at https://purdue.edu/agbarometer. Farmer sentiment continues to weaken, as the Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer declined again in July. The barometer fell 11 points to 135 from June, a reading that resulted from U.S. farmers' weaker perceptions of both current conditions and future expectations. Purdue ag economists James Mintert and Michael Langemeier share insights into the results of the July 2025 survey, conducted from July 7-11, in this episode of the Purdue Commercial AgCast. Weak crop prices, a squeeze on farm margins, and a notable difference in sentiment between crop and livestock producers are key factors to the weakened sentiment. From elation to concern to outright hyperbolic right wing smear, reaction to Zohran Mamdani's win in the New York City Democratic mayoral primary is all over the spectrum. Naturally, progressives are elated and believe the result portends a progressive-led blue wave for 2026 and beyond; establishment Democrats seem a little angst-riddled, fearful an ascendent democratic socialist (eek! That word!!!) could be a point of attack from the right, and of course, the right and their President, who are all too keenly aware their base is unaware the differences between "Marxist communism" and "democratic socialism."So what is there to make of it, and does any of it translate to an effect on 2026 midterms, for Georgia Democrats or even here in Atlanta's mayoral race? Yet to be seen, but it doesn't stop me from discussing. One Georgia lawmaker, friend of the show, Rep. Ruwa Romman, actually campaigned for Mamdani. ------As Mario Guevara's arrest and detention draws first amendment advocates' ire, the charges that even led to his arrest have been dropped, but ICE has indicated no reversal of course on their part in seeking to deport the reporter. Meanwhile, overcrowding at the south Georgia immigration detention facility Geuvara remains in is overcrowded, leading to inmates sleeping on the floor and resorting to 3 A.M. showers to find the time to even have one, along with rationing of food. I find it all worth mentioning because hearts and minds are softening and changing, even in ruby red MAGA hotspots like Whitfield County and its largest city, Dalton, Georgia. Patricia Murphy at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution spent a lot of time there gauging Dalton's citizens on where their minds are now that ICE is raiding workplaces and wreaking havoc on economies like that in Dalton. Even a staunch Republican state lawmaker is showing signs of having empathy for the immigrant population his community - and thus his own businesses' bottom lines - plight.

The barometer rose 10 points to 158, the highest since May 2021, driven by optimism about future and current farm conditions. The Farm Financial Performance Index also saw an increase, while the Farm Capital Investment Index declined slightly. Other key points include a surprising jump in the Short-Term Farmland Value Expectation Index, shifting attitudes toward ag exports, and concerns about labor impacts due to U.S. immigration policies. Will the November 1 trip to Nebraska be the barometer game for the Trojans?

Peristyle Podcast - USC Trojan Football Discussion

Play Episode Listen Later May 27, 2025 81:53

In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about the 2025 USC football schedule and how the early November trip to Lincoln could be the determining factor for the Trojans having a successful campaign. After finishing the regular season 6-6 in 2024 with no true Big Ten road victories, USC will try to take a huge step forward and be a real factor in the conference title race this season. To do so, the Trojans will need to grind out some tough victories on the road and we are circling that November 1 date against the Cornhuskers as the barometer game for USC. Looking at the way too early top-25 polls USC will face a few ranked teams on the road including Notre Dame, Oregon and Illinois and face off against Michigan at home. The post-spring SP+ rankings have Notre Dame at No. 6, Oregon at No. 7, Michigan at No. 10, Illinois at No. 19 then Iowa at No. 28 and Nebraska at No. 34 (with USC at No. 30). No other program on the Trojans schedule is in the SP+ top-50. Most sportsbooks currently have USC's over/under win total at 7.5, but barely surpassing that with an 8-4 record likely wouldn't be enough for Trojan fans to feel the season was a success. If we assume the pair of top-10 road games are losses, it doesn't leave much room for error for the Trojans to get to that 9-win mark. To have any chance of success USC will need to win its tough home games, so let's assume the Trojans go 2-1 with Michigan, Iowa and at Illinois. That leaves the November 1 game against Nebraska as the lynchpin to a successful season. The Huskers, like the Trojans, did a lot of work in the off-season to try and improve and some even feel Nebraska could make a run at the College Football Playoffs. USC got the better of Nebraska last season in the Coliseum, so Matt Rhule and company will be trying to return the favor when the Trojans come to town. In our opinion, both programs will desperately need that victory to take the next step towards conference respectability. CLICK HERE for 30% OFF an annual VIP membership to USCFootball.com!  Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! Wellness + Wisdom | Episode 699 Wellness + Wisdom Podcast Host and Wellness Force Media CEO, Josh Trent, shares how to use your beliefs as a barometer to determine your success in 2025. Is there a topic that you'd like us to cover in the next AMA episode? Record your message HERE. Listen To Episode 699 As Josh Trent Answers Your Questions [03:00] Beliefs Are Your Barometer What if I told you that our beliefs, not our skills, not our communication, not our relationships, not how much money we have... What if I told you that our beliefs are the number one factor that determines all types of success in 2025? Would you believe me? Well, the belief set that you're listening to me through is going to inform what's possible and what's not possible. Most people are prisoners of their own mindset and here's why. There have been many, many studies around animals, specifically rats, even horses, that when they are jailed in a cell, or when a horse is tied to a fence, or when even human beings are brought up with a certain structure of slavery that when they become liberated and their environment shows them that they can walk out of the jail cell at any time, they don't. Elephants do this too. Have you ever seen elephants at the circus? This massive two-ton animal and there's a circus conductor with a little whip, and this little whip is so fearful that the elephant trained since birth will not go against the conductor in the circus. The same thing happens with horses. Horses get tied to objects from when they're very young, And then when they're this massive beast that could literally break a fence with their legs, just the fact that the horse's mouth, the horse's head is tied to a fence post, keeps the horse still. We're no different. We are not that different than animals because I believe that we are half beast and half spirit. So in 2025, things are accelerating like never before. Look at AI and technology and information and social media. And the speed of technology, if you look at Moore's law, doubles every year and gets 50% cheaper every year. Now, it's not gonna slow down. Technology's not gonna slow down. Evolution is running at a much smaller pace. Evolution goes slow, yet consciousness is accelerating. So we have 3 forces at play here when it comes to your being affected so deeply by your beliefs. Your beliefs are your barometer. So if your beliefs are not aligned to your purpose in 2025, it is going to be metaphysically, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and financially impossible for you to be the person that you know you're capable of. But here's the great thing. You hold the keys to unlock your own jail cell. You hold the keys and the will to be with me on this podcast and to actually deep into the 5 sides of yourself. Physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and financial. These are the 5 sides that we nourish or we starve with our unconscious or conscious beliefs. This is why I'm saying your beliefs are your barometer in 2025. And so in the next 10 minutes, we're going to go into the tactical, practical ways you can be and what you can do so that you can have exactly the life that you want. Let's dig in... [10:05] The Power of Thoughts So if your beliefs are your barometer, what are the unconscious beliefs or even conscious that you journaled about and just choose that one thing. This is where people get really, really set off and they become overwhelmed because they try to change 3 things or 5 or 10 things. Don't do that. Change one thing and commit to it wholeheartedly with humility, with vulnerability, by sharing it in tribe, in community, or with another person. And then ask that person, can you support me in my commitment? Can you support me in my accountability to resetting my barometer? So that may have felt a little jarring, but I promise you if you do it, it'll feel less and less challenging to do each time. This was both a spiritual and scientific mental practice. But let's talk a little bit more about the science. There are thousands of studies showing that neuroplasticity in the brain is not only real, it's neurological. So it's plastic that is getting shifted by the habitual thought patterns that we allow ourselves think. Here's a great example. Your brain is wired to think thoughts and then repeat those thoughts as a habitual loop. That's why grooves that get run into the earth from rain or from water or from streams Become even more carved out your is no different the thoughts that you think could essentially be water and the tapestry of your brain Is the earth that you allow yourself to think thoughts that are negative? To think thoughts that are harmful to self or others, the more those are going to get grooved in. But here's the paradox. The more that you consciously seek out the evidence that you're safe, that you're supported, that you have all the resources coming to you, you have all the network, all the community, all the money, all the love from self, and others, the more you are actually tricking or training to seek out the neuroplastic pathways where that abundance can actually come in. So here's the mindset shift that we must do in 2025. It is not positive thinking. It is not good vibes only. Positive thinking does not work. It's about alignment. See, the alignment of our beliefs actually allow us to have the neurology match the person that know we can become. It's about the neurology. So when it comes to a mindset shift, we first and foremost have to approach the beliefs and the neurology behind the fact of why that belief is there in the first place. Now, there are many episodes that we'll link in the show notes today, JoshTrent.com/699. And this is a place where you can go to start deepening your journey in the mental portion of the Wellness Pentagon. But I'll tell you that anytime we have a mental journey, it is also going to be a spiritual journey as well. Here's why. The body cannot live without the mind and vice versa. We are a soul inhabiting the body. So as we go into this audit of our beliefs, write down your core beliefs about money, write down your core beliefs about relationships, health, and success. Are they empowering or are they limiting? Turn off every limiting belief. Get them down on paper, write them down right here, and know that repetition is what rewires your brain. It's in this conscious repetition and the flushing out of our unconscious beliefs that are harmful to self or others we actually become free. I mean, I just got a chill in my whole body right now saying that. Feel into this. It is in the repetition of writing down, of practicing the awareness of the beliefs that are keeping that actually yields us liberation. If we're the amalgamation of the 5 people that we spend the most time with. Audit your people this year. Audit your people. Do I enjoy hanging out with my 5 closest contacts, my family, and my friends? Liberation is not always easy because a lot of these relationships that we formed, they actually created this network or this spider web to keep us stuck, but we don't even know that we don't know it... [19:00] Make 2025 Your Year There is never a perfect time for you to start. And actually the only perfect time for you to start is now. It's when you're becoming aligned. It's the alignment of the beliefs that shape the fabric and really the lens of your barometer. This is so key. This is so big. If I can just share with you 1 more thing, your beliefs shape your reality. Align them and 2025 won't just be another year. It'll be your year. This is your year. This is your life. This is the place where everything can change. Do you feel it? Do you feel it in your heart? Do you feel it in your soul? This is where everything changes because you say so. So write me, podcast@wellnessandwisdom.com. Tell me your dreams, tell me your alignment, tell me the beliefs that are blocking the barometer that you're committed to letting go of. I'll share with you my beliefs. There's a story, there's a belief that it's become conscious, it was unconscious. And the belief in me said, how are you going to crack a million in 2025? How are you gonna hold the community? How are you gonna hold your family? How are you gonna hold your business? And you know what my belief is now? That I'm gathering evidence, that I'm being vulnerable with my men's groups that I'm even sharing with you right now, you know exactly how I'm fortifying the new belief. I'm fortifying the new belief by sharing it with you. I'm fortifying the new belief by sharing, by holding up the lantern. Because when I shine a lantern, I shine a lantern on my stuff and I shine it on yours too. That's what a true leader is. Leaders hold lanterns. So write in the comments below, what belief is holding you back? What belief are you committed to letting go of in 2025? And this is the key, how are you going to practice it?
