Farmer sentiment improved in April as producers expressed more optimism about current and future conditions on their farms. Purdue ag economists James Mintert and Michael Langemeier share their insight into the results of the April 2025 Ag Economy Barometer survey, conducted from April 14-21, in this episode of the Purdue Commercial AgCast. The Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer rose 8 points to a reading of 148, up from 140 in March. Key topics include the surprising economic optimism among livestock producers, farm capital investment trends, and ongoing trade policy impacts. The conversation also covers survey respondents' expectations for farm input costs, interest rates, and the potential long-term effects of tariffs on U.S. agriculture. The Ag Economy Barometer sentiment index is calculated each month from 400 U.S. agricultural producers' responses to a telephone survey. Hosts: Taylor Morgan and Erin Rider Special election races in Wisconsin and Florida were supposed to be an early barometer of President Trump's second term -- an indicator as to how the American people are feeling about the direction of the country under Trump. In the end though... it was a mixed bag of results. Republicans won their two congressional races in Florida -- albeit by smaller margins than Trump won in those districts -- and the Democratic-backed candidate for Wisconsin Supreme Court won. The Inside Sources hosts go into detail on the results and give their political analysis.
Weaker expectations for the future led to a decline in farmer sentiment in March as the Purdue University-CME Group Ag Economy Barometer index fell 12 points to a reading of 140, down from 152 a month earlier. Purdue ag economists James Mintert and Michael Langemeier share their insight into the results of the March 2025 Ag Economy Barometer survey, conducted from March 10-14, in this episode of the Purdue Commercial AgCast. The episode covers impacts of trade policies, tariff uncertainties, and their effects on corn and soybean prices. The discussion also touches on farm capital investment, farmland value expectations, anticipated government compensation, and producer sentiments towards inflation and interest rates for 2025. The UK economy showed further signs of strain last week, with job postings hitting a four-year low in January. Wages continued to rise, reaching a record average of £40,846, adding to the Bank of England's (“BoE”) inflationary concerns. Retailers warned of price increases due to higher national insurance and minimum wage hikes, particularly in the food sector. Meanwhile, a Reuters poll suggested the BoE could cut rates to 3.75% this year, with housing prices expected to rise as borrowing costs fall. The net-zero economy remained a bright spot, growing three times faster than the overall economy and contributing £83 billion in Gross Value Added (“GVA”). However, higher energy bills and taxation concerns are weighing on businesses, with two-thirds of hospitality firms set to cut jobs. Despite economic pressures, Lloyd's business barometer showed optimism, rebounding to its highest level since August 2024...Stocks featured:BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce and WPPTo find out more about the investment management services offered by Walker Crips, please visit our website:https://www.walkercrips.co.uk/This podcast is intended to be Walker Crips Investment Management's own commentary on markets.

Engineering remains a lucrative career choice, as demonstrated by the Engineers Ireland Salary Report 2025. Published today, the report found that salaries increase steadily as engineers advance in their careers, and those who obtain professional qualifications see even greater financial benefits. The report highlights the strong demand and rewarding prospects for a career in engineering. Salary progression A graduate engineer with less than two years' experience can earn up to €44,000. Early career engineers reported strong increases in salaries over the past year: 41% of engineers with 3-5 years experience received a raise of more than 10%. Mechanical engineers with 6-10 years under their belt earned higher wages than civil, electrical or energy disciplines, taking home €66,000. For mid-level career engineers, the energy sector offers the highest salaries. An engineer with over 10 years' experience can expect to be paid €78,000, as compared to €71,000 for civil engineering. Engineers with over 30 years' experience earn between €100,000-€120,000. Value of professional titles Earning a professional title, such as Chartered Engineer or Fellow, is another route to higher pay for engineers. The pay gap between engineer and chartered engineer varied from €7,000 to €22,000, depending on the career stage. Engineers Ireland awards registered professional titles such as 'Chartered Engineer' and 'Fellow', recognising the competence, continuing professional development and leadership of its members. Multiple benefits 45% of engineers receive an annual bonus, and the median value of the bonus is €5,000. Other benefits provided included education, training or CPD; health insurance, company car, share purchase options, annual dividends, and overtime. Pension planning The vast majority of engineers received pension contributions from their employer, valued typically at 5% of the salary. The Engineers Ireland Salary Report 2025 survey provides data on salary levels, bonuses, pension contributions, salary top-ups, and other benefits in the engineering profession. The information in this report was collected through an online survey of members, which received 1,643 responses from Engineers Ireland members in January 2025. Today I am thrilled to have on the show Israa Nasir to talk about her book Toxic Productivity: Reclaim Your Time and Emotional Energy in a World That Always Demands More, which came out November 19. Israa is a psychotherapist, speaker, and the founder of the mental health brand WellGuide, a digital community for mental health awareness. I love getting her WellGuide Substack, so make sure to subscribe to “The Well Guide” if you love this book and this conversation, which I know you will. Her work is centered on transforming the way we talk about mental health, taking it from a place of shame to a place of empowerment. You may have seen her work on NBC or in Teen Vogue, Huffpost, or Vox, and she's been invited to speak everywhere from Google to Meta to Yale. We know anecdotally what productivity is, but what is toxic productivity? It's something Israa has battled herself, as have I. Today on the show we not only define toxic productivity but healthy productivity, as well, and what that might look like; how we can separate a false sense of urgency from a true sense of urgency; that multitasking is not possible for the human mind; and how so many of us are using productivity as a barometer of self-worth and as a way to meet our emotional needs — and how this will never serve us. There is also a connection between shame and toxic productivity I think you'll be really interested to hear about. Today is the 5th Trading Day of January, and as go the first five days of the year, so goes the month of January, and so goes the rest of the year...according to the January Barometer. We are in the middle of the January Barometer: If markets close higher today, we will have successfully created a positive first-five-days-of-the-year. But just barely. Note: We failed the Santa Claus Rally, we are threatening to close lower today (Dow Futures are down during this recording), and today's result will trigger the second leg of the January Barometer. HOWEVER: In 2024, we had a negative First Five Days of January, we had a negative January and had a whopper year. Tuesday's market action did not really resonate with the JOLTS Survey; something else was afoot, because stocks sold off hard, bonds sold off hard, for a day of no safe asset across the board. Farmer sentiment drifted lower in December as the Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer dropped 9 points to a reading of 136. The decline was driven by producers' weaker perspective on current conditions in U.S. agriculture and their farms, with the Index of Current Conditions falling 13 points to 100. Although the Current Conditions Index declined this month, it remains 24 points above its low in September and 5 points higher than in October. The Index of Future Expectations also fell 8 points to 153, remaining 59 points above its September low and 29 points higher than the October reading. This month's survey was conducted from Dec. 2-6, 2024. The Ag Economy Barometer sentiment index is calculated each month from 400 U.S. agricultural producers' responses to a telephone survey. Wellness + Wisdom | Episode 699 Wellness + Wisdom Podcast Host and Wellness Force Media CEO, Josh Trent, shares how to use your beliefs as a barometer to determine your success in 2025. Is there a topic that you'd like us to cover in the next AMA episode? Record your message HERE. Listen To Episode 699 As Josh Trent Answers Your Questions [03:00] Beliefs Are Your Barometer What if I told you that our beliefs, not our skills, not our communication, not our relationships, not how much money we have... What if I told you that our beliefs are the number one factor that determines all types of success in 2025? Would you believe me? Well, the belief set that you're listening to me through is going to inform what's possible and what's not possible. Most people are prisoners of their own mindset and here's why. There have been many, many studies around animals, specifically rats, even horses, that when they are jailed in a cell, or when a horse is tied to a fence, or when even human beings are brought up with a certain structure of slavery that when they become liberated and their environment shows them that they can walk out of the jail cell at any time, they don't. Elephants do this too. Have you ever seen elephants at the circus? This massive two-ton animal and there's a circus conductor with a little whip, and this little whip is so fearful that the elephant trained since birth will not go against the conductor in the circus. The same thing happens with horses. Horses get tied to objects from when they're very young, And then when they're this massive beast that could literally break a fence with their legs, just the fact that the horse's mouth, the horse's head is tied to a fence post, keeps the horse still. We're no different. We are not that different than animals because I believe that we are half beast and half spirit. So in 2025, things are accelerating like never before. Look at AI and technology and information and social media. And the speed of technology, if you look at Moore's law, doubles every year and gets 50% cheaper every year. Now, it's not gonna slow down. Technology's not gonna slow down. Evolution is running at a much smaller pace. Evolution goes slow, yet consciousness is accelerating. So we have 3 forces at play here when it comes to your being affected so deeply by your beliefs. Your beliefs are your barometer. So if your beliefs are not aligned to your purpose in 2025, it is going to be metaphysically, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and financially impossible for you to be the person that you know you're capable of. But here's the great thing. You hold the keys to unlock your own jail cell. You hold the keys and the will to be with me on this podcast and to actually deep into the 5 sides of yourself. Physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and financial. These are the 5 sides that we nourish or we starve with our unconscious or conscious beliefs. This is why I'm saying your beliefs are your barometer in 2025. And so in the next 10 minutes, we're going to go into the tactical, practical ways you can be and what you can do so that you can have exactly the life that you want. Let's dig in... [10:05] The Power of Thoughts So if your beliefs are your barometer, what are the unconscious beliefs or even conscious that you journaled about and just choose that one thing. This is where people get really, really set off and they become overwhelmed because they try to change 3 things or 5 or 10 things. Don't do that. Change one thing and commit to it wholeheartedly with humility, with vulnerability, by sharing it in tribe, in community, or with another person. And then ask that person, can you support me in my commitment? Can you support me in my accountability to resetting my barometer? So that may have felt a little jarring, but I promise you if you do it, it'll feel less and less challenging to do each time. This was both a spiritual and scientific mental practice. But let's talk a little bit more about the science. There are thousands of studies showing that neuroplasticity in the brain is not only real, it's neurological. So it's plastic that is getting shifted by the habitual thought patterns that we allow ourselves think. Here's a great example. Your brain is wired to think thoughts and then repeat those thoughts as a habitual loop. That's why grooves that get run into the earth from rain or from water or from streams Become even more carved out your is no different the thoughts that you think could essentially be water and the tapestry of your brain Is the earth that you allow yourself to think thoughts that are negative? To think thoughts that are harmful to self or others, the more those are going to get grooved in. But here's the paradox. The more that you consciously seek out the evidence that you're safe, that you're supported, that you have all the resources coming to you, you have all the network, all the community, all the money, all the love from self, and others, the more you are actually tricking or training to seek out the neuroplastic pathways where that abundance can actually come in. So here's the mindset shift that we must do in 2025. It is not positive thinking. It is not good vibes only. Positive thinking does not work. It's about alignment. See, the alignment of our beliefs actually allow us to have the neurology match the person that know we can become. It's about the neurology. So when it comes to a mindset shift, we first and foremost have to approach the beliefs and the neurology behind the fact of why that belief is there in the first place. Now, there are many episodes that we'll link in the show notes today, JoshTrent.com/699. And this is a place where you can go to start deepening your journey in the mental portion of the Wellness Pentagon. But I'll tell you that anytime we have a mental journey, it is also going to be a spiritual journey as well. Here's why. The body cannot live without the mind and vice versa. We are a soul inhabiting the body. So as we go into this audit of our beliefs, write down your core beliefs about money, write down your core beliefs about relationships, health, and success. Are they empowering or are they limiting? Turn off every limiting belief. Get them down on paper, write them down right here, and know that repetition is what rewires your brain. It's in this conscious repetition and the flushing out of our unconscious beliefs that are harmful to self or others we actually become free. I mean, I just got a chill in my whole body right now saying that. Feel into this. It is in the repetition of writing down, of practicing the awareness of the beliefs that are keeping that actually yields us liberation. If we're the amalgamation of the 5 people that we spend the most time with. Audit your people this year. Audit your people. Do I enjoy hanging out with my 5 closest contacts, my family, and my friends? Liberation is not always easy because a lot of these relationships that we formed, they actually created this network or this spider web to keep us stuck, but we don't even know that we don't know it... [19:00] Make 2025 Your Year There is never a perfect time for you to start. And actually the only perfect time for you to start is now. It's when you're becoming aligned. It's the alignment of the beliefs that shape the fabric and really the lens of your barometer. This is so key. This is so big. If I can just share with you 1 more thing, your beliefs shape your reality. Align them and 2025 won't just be another year. It'll be your year. This is your year. This is your life. This is the place where everything can change. Do you feel it? Do you feel it in your heart? Do you feel it in your soul? This is where everything changes because you say so. So write me, podcast@wellnessandwisdom.com. Tell me your dreams, tell me your alignment, tell me the beliefs that are blocking the barometer that you're committed to letting go of. I'll share with you my beliefs. There's a story, there's a belief that it's become conscious, it was unconscious. And the belief in me said, how are you going to crack a million in 2025? How are you gonna hold the community? How are you gonna hold your family? How are you gonna hold your business? And you know what my belief is now? That I'm gathering evidence, that I'm being vulnerable with my men's groups that I'm even sharing with you right now, you know exactly how I'm fortifying the new belief. I'm fortifying the new belief by sharing it with you. I'm fortifying the new belief by sharing, by holding up the lantern. Because when I shine a lantern, I shine a lantern on my stuff and I shine it on yours too. That's what a true leader is. Leaders hold lanterns. So write in the comments below, what belief is holding you back? What belief are you committed to letting go of in 2025? And this is the key, how are you going to practice it? What is your practice for being liberated? Join us in the Liberated Life Tribe... Farmer sentiment jumped again in November, with the Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer climbing 30 points to a reading of 145. This marked the highest level of farmer optimism since May 2021. Purdue ag economists James Mintert and Michael Langemeier share some insight into the results of the November 2024 Ag Economy Barometer survey, conducted Nov. 11-15, 2024, the week following the U.S. presidential election. Both of the barometer's sub-indices increased in November. The Future Expectations Index saw the largest jump, rising 37 points to 161, while the Current Conditions Index increased 18 points to 113. The November sentiment boost reflects growing optimism about a more favorable regulatory and tax environment for agriculture following the U.S. election. The Ag Economy Barometer sentiment index is calculated each month from 400 U.S. agricultural producers' responses to a telephone survey. The Premier League and Champions League tables are looking good, but Aston Villa now face tougher tests ahead, starting with three away trips in a week, beginning with Spurs. The clash with Ange Postecoglou's men will certainly be an early barometer to how good this Villa team actually is.UTVSpecial VPN Offer with Four Months FreeThis episode of the My Old Man Said podcast is sponsored by NordVPN, which was named as one of TIME's 2022 Best Inventions (Apps and Software section). E and T Short: Do the Chiefs present a new barometer on what will be considered a success for this season?
The August Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer dropped 13 points from July to a reading of 100, echoing levels seen from fall 2015 to winter 2016 during the early stages of a significant downturn in the U.S. farm economy. The Index of Current Conditions also dropped 17 points to 83, while the Index of Future Expectations decreased by 11 points to 108. Weakening farm income prospects weighed on farmers' sentiment as the outlook for a bountiful fall harvest was more than offset by declining crop prices. This month's survey was conducted from Aug. 12-16, 2024. The Ag Economy Barometer sentiment index is calculated each month from 400 U.S. agricultural producers' responses to a telephone survey.
