On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Jax. Whether she's critiquing Victoria's Secret in hit pop songs, crafting TikTok clips with Paris Hilton, or posting viral parodies of “Stacy's Mom,” Jax imbues comedy into everything she touches. Brought up by musical theater, Jax has parlayed her time onstage into countless funny songs (and even some famous covers) that generate thousands of views. In a full-circle moment, Jax gets into a proper conversation with Madden after meeting him as a teenager at a Good Charlotte show, where one of her early bands opened a couple of dates during their 2011 tour with Forever the Sickest Kids. Austin Texas based artist Jeff Azar A.KA. Demi the Daredevil went from the drummer to being a one-man show after the original lead singer Jovan Ortiz suddenly passed away. Demi mixes theatrically edgy vocals with an alternative emo pop style to create a unique sound that you can't quite find anywhere else. Jeff's unconventional approach to songwriting provides the listener with deep, relatable meaning, choosing substance over radio norms, creating a safe space and community for the "Devilin Cult". Pure and raw emotion pours out from every self-produced gothic fantasy-like track, representing those with actual chemical imbalances and disabilities. With the music, you're transported to a darkly ethereal yet nostalgic atmosphere. With the character, Demi, you've found your safe creepy place. Demi has eclipsed 2 million Spotify streams independently, 1,000+ fan art pieces, and has been featured on Buzzfeed, Rock the Vote, Warped Tour, Buffering the Web Series, Digital Tour Bus, Pop Song Professor, Don't Bore Us, The One, American Songwriter Top 100, Songwriter of the Year, and Springboard Music Festival to name a few. Demi has also collaborated with Kevin Butler (Blue October), Sean O'Keefe (Fall Out Boy), Chris Qualls (Concord Publishing), and Austin Bello (Forever the Sickest Kids) with songs being actively pitched to Netflix, Disney+, and more. We had the pleasure of interviewing Loose Ends over Zoom video! Long Beach pop-punk outfit Loose Ends have announced the release of their dynamic new video for ‘Love In Heartache' off of their 2021 release ‘Tell God You Were Framed' slated for a release later this year.Finding a silver lining in an ever-evolving world of turmoil and upset is something humankind has seemed to forget how to do. Loose Ends is here to tighten that thought up. “Love In Heartache explores the intoxicating struggle to get away from something we know is bad for us, but somehow finds its way back into our life; That we toggle between healing and hurting in order to grow with the hope that whatever it is doesn't kill us first.” - Andy RodesneyAbout Loose Ends:Based in Long Beach California, Loose Ends is the most recent project of Andy Rodesney, Kyle Durst, Ben Wesson, and Matt Lang. The new group focuses on combining a variety of influences such as Yellowcard, The Story So Far, Brand New into a musical casserole of pop-punk/alternative rock songs that guide the listener on a captivating and emotional journey. The first EP “Tell God You Were Framed” is a conceptual album designed to portray a sonic experience of what leaving the body after death may be like and confronting a higher power for the next chapter of existence. Featuring members of Kid Liberty, the foursome have combined their efforts across the nation with Kyle Durst and Andy Rodesney writing and producing the record in collaboration with longtime friend and producer Geoff Rockwell (Forever the Sickest Kids, Artist vs Poet, Memphis May Fire, Crown the Empire) to fully develop this audio saga.We want to hear from you! Shane Drake, legendary music video director for emo acts such as Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, Hawthorne Heights, The Rocket Summer, and Forever the Sickest Kids stops by to answer all of our burning questions about what it was like to be on set with some of our biggest heroes. We are honestly stunned this interview even happened, and we're more shocked at the level of intimate detail he provided for each music video we talked about. There are tons of behind-the-scenes looks at everything from early 2000's screams acts like Underøath, all the way up to directing music videos for American Idol, and his transition into the country scene. Tons of great detail that you won't be able to find anywhere else, and I'm just not sure what life we're living right now because this is undoubtedly the coolest thing to ever happen on the show. 2008 saw the release of some very poppy, very catchy acts in the pop scene, but not many as poppy or as catchy as Underdog Alma Mater by Forever the Sickest Kids. This album consisted of some pretty intense dance beats, killer half time vibes, and absolute bangers of choruses. Whoa Oh! (Me vs Everyone) sets the record off at a break neck pace which can be further amplified by the intensity and carefree nature of the music video. This week the guys discuss their perception of the band when they were new on the scene, how this song still makes them want to dance to this day, and the insanity that is the music video. Matt formed his own successful rock band, sElf and then cofounded Spongebath records an imprint of Zoo records. From 1995 on sElf and Spongebath became a shining beacon of hope for indi bands in middle TN wanting to shake the stereotype of country music. After a decade in middle TN Matt moved to LA to be closer to his next label Dreamworks where he developed his production career continuing to write and record for his own band. He has a long list of artists in the studio including: Pink, Beck, Liz Phair, Tenacious D, Lupe Fiasco, Phantom Planet, Beyoncé, Butch Walker, Hellogoodbye, Forever the Sickest Kids, Miranda Cosgrove, The White Tie Affair, Keith Urban, The Sounds, L.E.O. and Smash Mouth. And recently Matt just played on Beck's Grammy winning Album of the Year 2015, Morning Phase. Matt has also created music for many filmmakers including Ivan Reitman, Michael Mann, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Andrew Adamson, and Hans Zimmer. And he also wrote music for Shrek, Shrek 2, and Shrek 4. And contributed music for the cartoons Ni Hao Kai-Lan and Sanjay and Craig. And other TV credits include: CSI Miami, DanceLife, Entourage, MTV, E! Entertainment, Weeds, and 60 Minutes. He has even spoken at TEDx Nashville, and notably created the famous jingle for Expedia.com, and appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live as the Muppet character “Animal” in a drum off with Blink 182 drummer, Travis Baker.

The Dollyrots, comprised of Kelly Ogden (bass/vocals), Luis Cabezas (guitar) and Alicia Warrington (drums), was originally founded by childhood friends Ogden and Cabezas in their native Florida. The pair decided to move to Los Angeles in 2002 and have recently seen the addition of drummer Warrington. The band has released three full length albums (Eat My Heart Out, Because I’m Awesome, and A Little Messed Up) and several singles and EPs through the Lookout, Blackheart, and Brando record labels. In addition, The Dollyrots’ music has earned them song placements, commercials, and acting stints in television shows including Hewlett-Packard, Kohls, CSI:NY, ABC Family’s Greek, Ugly Betty, Vampire Diaries, The Price is Right, Easy A, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, Reaper, and Bring It On: Fight to the Finish, among others. The trio has logged hundreds of thousands of miles in the U.S. touring consistently since 2003 while cultivating a rabidly loyal fan base. Over the past 10 years, The Dollyrots have worked with a number of well-known producers including John Fields (Andrew WK, Pink), Chris Testa (Jimmy Eat World, Dixie Chicks), Matt Wallace (Maroon 5, Faith No More), Sylvia Massy (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool), and Neal H. Pogue (Outkast, Travis Barker.) The past year has seen the three-piece touring across the North America both headlining and alongside bands such as Bowling For Soup, Buzzcocks, and The Go-Gos. In 2010 The Dollyrots toured the UK & Ireland with Bowling For Soup and Forever the Sickest Kids, playing to sold out crowds and expanding their fan base overseas. For The Dollyrots, 2012 is gearing up to be their best year yet as they are currently putting the finishing touches on their fourth full length album independently and with John Fields, producer of “Eat My Heart Out” and “Because I’m Awesome.” The album is in large part being funded by fans through a Kickstarter crowdsourcing project that has thus far doubled initial fundraising expectations. Coming off a strong year of touring and recording the band is anxious to expand their horizons and build on what they’ve accomplished with a new album supported by their fans.
Episode 4 boasts of tour dates from Sherwood, the Hives, Matchbox 20, Band of Horses, Emerson Drive, Forever the Sickest Kids, Jet Lag Gemini, Girl in a Coma, We the Kings, Brighten, I Shot the Sheriff, the Cab and Beercan! Album releases include Natasha Bedingfield, Damemas, Dengue Fever, Get Set Go, Hello, Blue Roses, Hey Willpower, Super Furry Animals, Dub Trio, Elephant Man, Helio Sequence, Joe Jackson, Louis XIV, Sons and Daughters and Vampire Weekend.
