David and CJ explore the greatest nighttime parade to ever stroll down Main Street (at least in David's opinion.) Hear them marvel at the unique characters called “Spectromen,” and admire the beauty of the parade's score. They will also explore the age-old question: “Why not Jodi Benson?!”
AJ, Mike, and Chris revisit the classic nighttime parade from the Magic Kingdom, SpectroMagic. This even extravaganza rolled down Main Street throughout most of the 90s, dazzling guests with incredible new technologies, beloved characters, and a brilliant musical score composed by John Debney. Debuting to celebrate Walt Disney World's 20th anniversary, SpectroMagic had a brief hiatus and some updates before it prematurely concluded its run in 2010. We hope you enjoy learning about some of the show's creators, the way light was used to create the magnificent floats, and some of our own fond memories of this incredible parade. Our good friend of the show Mike Schafer, who has contributed a number of times on the show and is an original member of the Gentlemen's Golf Trip joins us. He and I are going to man the ship over the next month or so as Gary is busy helping his family pack and move. I thought it was time to interview Mike and let our listeners know what his 'Loves' of Disney are. We took a week off during this crisis, because we simply weren't in the mood to talk Disney during these trying times. I felt it was time to get back to work and step away from the news and talk Disney. Do you remember Donald's 50th Birthday Parade back in 1984? SpectroMagic or Main Street Electrical Parade? Thanks for listening, Mike and Gary
In light of the current situation around the world, I think we needed to come together as a podcast family for a bit just to check-in on each other. During this show that was recorded live on Wednesday night, April 1, 2020. Tonight we played a game called "This or That?" We put pairs of experiences together and each caller had to answer the previous pair and then put out a new pair for the next caller! MSEP vs. SpectroMagic, Wishes vs. Happily Ever After, Coronado Springs vs. Pop Century, and much more! If you need a bit of a pick-me-up, this show might do the trick. Thank you sincerely for always being a part of our podcast community. We have something special here and together, we will make it through this stronger than before. Blessings - Mike

Welcome to Episode 35 of the Retro Disney World Podcast: "Christmas Around The World - Part II" - We appreciate your support and hope you have been enjoying each and every episode. Be sure to check out some of our previous shows. Corrections & Listener Mail As always, we start off with corrections and listener mail. This month we had some really fun notes, letters, cards and messages. We start off the show with some amazingly comical stories from Dreamflight. In 1991, listener Brian had a fellow rider exit the ride too quickly, claiming the ride was on fire! What a story! We also got some information about the Grand Central Air Terminal, which is actually the bus depot from Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. If you look below at a screen grab from the movie, and an old postcard, you can see exactly what we're talking about. Thanks for the note Kevin and everybody else that sent us facts about this space. How also brings up a conversation he had with Tony Baxter regarding 20,000 Leagues and if the reference to Mr. Baxter is referring to him. The answer might or might not surprise you..... Brian has a correction from two years ago, Christmas related. The small railroad in Germany has a different origin than we originally thought. This is not a Christmas attraction! Reese wrote in asking about the colors on the sides of Universe of Energy. She is wondering why these changed and if there was some specific reasons on the color choices. Brian and How help us out and give us some backstory on the colors. Rob wrote in about the hot air balloon and powered glider show, asking how long it was in production and if it was related to the electrical water pageant. How chimes in on how this was an opening day special and gives us some other facts. Finally, we hear from Wayne regarding a Nestle chocolate chip cookie tin, with special magnets. Well Wayne took it upon himself to do a hard target search and we can't wait for you to hear how he found his magnet... Thank you for all the emails, tweets and comments you have sent our way. We try to respond to almost everything and do our best to pick unique questions for the show. For questions, comments and concerns, please write us - podcast@retrowdw.com. Audio Rewind Our audio rewind this month turned out to be SpectroMagic, the piano version! The winner is Brandom Fitzgerald, winning the 1autographed picture of Corinne, from Horizons! All entries due 1/8/2018 and a random winner will be selected. Even if you don't win, you will gain an entry into the NEW PRIZE POT! The new prize pot already has one item, which are some EPCOT Posters. Best of luck to our 2018 Part 1 Prize Pot contestants! Prize Pot The time has come to give away our Fall/Winter 2017 Prize Pot! JT heads to the basement to fire up the old computer again, but runs into some technical problems... Our lucky winner is........ John Marado! Here is what John will receive: Life Magazine - 1971 (Courtesy of David) Look Magazine - 1971 (Courtesy of David) WDW Easter Egg Hunt Invitation - 1986 1991 Magic Kingdom & MGM Theme Park guidebooks (Color Coded) Vintage Epcot Center World Showcase postcards EPCOT Cooler Bag from D23 RetroWDW Embroidered Hat - 1 of 5 made! Main Topic Christmas Around The World & The 1978 Christmas at WDW Special Brian takes the lead this month for another amazing round of Christmas Around the World. Part 1 took place way back in 2015 on Episode 14, if you would like to listen back, click here. We discuss the 1978 special in detail this month, which offers up an amazing look at lots of our favorite vintage things at WDW. We highly recommend you take a look either before or after you listen to this episode. We go into such great detail about everything from Shields & Yarnell, Pablo Cruise, the amazingly interesting Gepetto scene and of course lots and lots of 70s stars. https://youtu.be/iswtfFAobiA There are tons of hidden gems and weirdness throughout. Brian takes us back to our 2015 episode for a quick recap before hitting on some new Christmas details that appear throughout WDW. One of the most interesting items we discuss is the tree from The Contemporary that was suspended from the ceiling! Brian also discusses some very odd mannequins from The Grand Floridian lobby. Take a look at the images below, but be warned, you cannot un-see these! This episode has lots of great details to get you into the Disney World holiday spirit! Enjoy!
Delta Rae drummer Mike McKee sat down with Brian and Todd the other night to discuss a bit about the band, retro Disney, and the much missed SpectroMagic parade; find out why his mom uses the chords in the theme song to teach music to her students! Delta Rae is a country rock band that will be performing at EPCOT Center on August 31 and September 1 2017 at the American Gardens Theater (In front of the American Adventure attraction in World Showcase). Weddings are tough to plan, and even tougher to execute. A lot of cash is spent on places and services that offer up an easy time on your Big Day, and where there's cash to be had, you can find The Mouse. Today is all about the glamor and unexpected awesomeness of ... Disney Weddings But first ... Jason shaves his beard but leaves his terrible moustache, and everyone in the world lets him know about it. Terrence talks about how he's failing at doing his Bambi review for our Disney Animated Classics reviews, but swears it won't end up in the Drafts folder like Jasons' Fantasia review has. We get a recap from Bev on her recent trip to Disneyland, including her ride of Luigi's Rollicking Roadsters. Terrence has some friends who were looking for a Disney Wedding, and through a series of fortunate events, got the wedding they didn't know they were looking for. We chat with them about not only Disney Weddings in general, but how they got so lucky with their ceremony and reception, and get a few tips for those of you out there who may be interested in your own Disney wedding. Then we bring our pal Jeremy from SpectroRadio back for another segment of SpectroMagic, we do some Disney News, rattle off a Fact of the Show, and that's it. See you in the parks! Very cool touch! The happy couple, surrounded by classic Haunted Mansion vegetation! Check out that centerpiece! The actual suit of armor from the Haunted Mansion!
The Little Mermaid ride at DCA is fairly new , but it's Bev's favorite movie and well, it was her turn to do a segment on the show. So with that in mind, we bring you ... The History of The Little Mermaid Ride But first ... We start off talking about slang and what the hip term is for "significant other", for some strange reason. These show intros are never planned, and are totally organic, so we have no clue what's going to come pouring out when the mics turn on. Then we talk to Jeremy from SpectroRadio for a quick recap of his recent broadcasting troubles and how he is now back broadcasting. After a sigh of relief, we get down to brass tacks: Jeremy is debuting a new re-occurring segment on EarzUp, called "It's SpectroTime!", and the point is to have him on once a month to talk to us about a different piece of Disney music. Today, Jeremy tells us about his favorite piece, SpectroMagic: what it is, where it came from, and why he loves it. Bev has the floor as she tells us the history of The Little Mermaid ride, and we all learn a lot about the ride that has one of the shortest lines in the parks. It's also a great place to get out of the heat, since it's air conditioned! We move on to Jason as he does some Disney News, Fact of the Show, and then we are done! See you in the parks!
Around the Hub is a game show based on ESPN’s Around the Horn. Four contestants from around the WDWNT Network of Podcasts match wits in a game of competitive banter. Points are awarded for good arguments and points may be deducted if a podcaster loses their train of thought or says something the host does not agree with. There are 3 rounds of play, starting off with the Rope Drop (which covers the biggest news stories of the week from the entire Walt Disney Company) and ending with the Face-Off between the last two podcasters standing. At the end of each round the podcaster with the lowest point total is eliminated. The winner of each episode gets a thirty second Meet ‘N’ Greet to discuss anything from the World of Disney that is on their minds. We go back Beyond the Hub with frequent contributor and WDWNT: The Magazine Editor in Chief Ron D’Anna. Ron and host Patrick Hackett discuss Frozen, SpectroMagic, Marvel, Toad Ins, and the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, as well as some international flair and flavor. The theme of this episode is “WDWNT Cares”. Give it a listen…you won’t be disappointed.
Jambeaux, everyone!!! Welcome to another episode of the Magic Our Way podcast. It is time for part 1 of some mind blowing discussions related to Disney movies. We are mentally worn out after recording this part. Hahaha! This week, we once again address several topics which peaked our interest for discussion while waiting in the Queue. Phineas and Ferb and Star Wars...THE UNIVERSES COLLIDE!!! Along with this, Epcot’s Journey into Imagination pavillion is schedule to go down for a redo....possibly. AT&T customers will hopefully receive a “luxury” at the Disney parks on both coasts as AT&T becomes the official provider for the resorts. Rivers of Light...RIVERS OF LIGHTTTTT...at the Animal Kingdom...this is a parade on the river that is to take place at night. Is this enough to make Animal Kingdom an all day park for you? We shall see...we shall see. No more Spectromagic...it has been confirmed by Disney officials...Kevin is in mourning. In the Hub, we discuss THE PIXAR THEORY by Jon Negroni (www.jonnegroni.com). We are working to fully understand the theory and to see if it “holds water” so to speak..and to reference "My Cousin Vinny.” “YUTES!” Anyway, If you have not heard about this theory, go read it on Jon Negroni’s website. We would love to get your reaction to this. In short, it addresses a notion that all of the Pixar movies exist within the same universe. We surmise that it is not the same universe in which we exist. It deals with two developing concepts over time in the “Pixar” universe: the advancement of animal intelligence and the advancement of artificial intelligence to the point that neither machine nor animal need humans to survive. Wild, huh?!?! Read it, listen to our thoughts, and please write us with your thoughts at magicourway@gmail.com. This first half of the discussion goes from the beginning with the witch in Brave through to Syndrome and Zero Point Energy. Good luck! Come and join us for another installment of the WDW-Memories podcast, where I try to make it possible for you relive your Walt Disney World Memories when you can't actually be there. 99 Memories... you know what that means... special memory episode next time. Yep, I’ve been thinking about Memory 100 for a little while now and Paul and Magic Joe from Window to the Magic have given me an idea of what I’ll do. But you’ll just have to tune in next time to find out what it is. For today though, I was inspired by all the news about SpectroMagic. If you haven’t heard, the scuttlebutt on the internet is that they have recently destroyed various SpectroMagic parade floats, taking away any opportunity for the return of this parade in the future. This saddens me greatly as I loved this nighttime parade, possibly even more than the Main Street Electrical Parade. To me, the music is better, and I loved the little guys with the white faces. Other then that, I guess they’re really the same parade right? Welcome to Episode #15 of the DizFanatic "Ears On Ears" podcast! This is our "Lovey Dovey" episode. Thinking of popping the big question in Disney? Well some special friends have joined us to discuss getting engaged in Walt Disney World. We share their experiences and some advice on this magical subject. Of course we also talk a bit about some recent exciting Disney news. As promised, our guests sent in a brief overview of their stories. Of course it's more fun to hear all of the details, but here are some quick notations: Kristin & Cory: My fiance Cory is everything in a man that I always hoped I would have – he's smart, he's funny, he's always there for me, he's just amazing. We've been together for four years now – and we're a great team. On our vacation to Disney World in July 2010, Cory proposed to me on the beach of the Polynesian Resort, right before the fireworks. He was so nervous! He got down on one knee, and told me that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. It had to be the most magical night of my life. Standing there, watching the fireworks surround the Magic Kingdom, with a brand new ring on my finger and a future to look forward to, was like a dream. It's like we were in another world and the fireworks were just for us! When Cory proposed I was so surprised, and so so happy! Disney is such a special place for us. My parents brought my sister and I to Disney every year as kids, and we have continued to go every year as adults. It has always been a special place to me and my family, even more so since my father passed away unexpectedly 2 years ago. It was his favorite place in the world and we feel like a piece of him is there on the Seven Seas Lagoon by the Magic Kingdom. This made the proposal location that much more meaningful. Cory wanted to propose in Disney because it was a special place to us, but knew that that particular location meant even more to me. It's as if my dad was there with us, giving us his approval (and a pat on the back to Cory for choosing to propose in Disney) We are now planning our wedding in Disney World for November 2011. It is so very exciting and we just can't wait. Thanks to Mike and Anna for having us on their amazing Disney podcast! We had a great time! See ya real soon! =) Kristen & Dave: Dave, his family, and I were in Disney World December 29-January 2. We went to Yachtsman Steakhouse for a New Years Eve/birthday dinner (his dad's birthday was December 31st and my 21st birthday was January 1). After dinner, we went to the Magic Kingdom for the fireworks. After the fireworks, we walked up closer to Cinderella's Castle. I had wanted to get our picture taken the entire time we were in Disney in front of Cinderella's Castle. Dave kept putting it off... until that night. He took me to a place on the side of the castle where there was a Photopass photographer. We were standing there around 12:10am. I was getting so frustrated because Dave wouldn't look towards the camera to have our picture taken. He kept looking at me and trying to get me to face him. Finally, I turned towards him. Out of nowhere, he grabbed my hand and dropped to one knee. I was completely speechless and started crying. The Magic Kingdom was loud that night with a DJ playing in the background. I don't remember the music or the people around. I just remember looking down at him on one knee. It felt as if it was just Dave and I. Everything around me completely disappeared. It was the most magical moment of my life. I'm so happy I found my prince charming. And, dreams really do come true. And, the link to the video :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUd0EO0xaAY And finally, Adam & Denise who were unable to be with us: We got engaged in January 2008. We were both in college working part time retail jobs, so we weren't making very much money. We had to drive down, because there was no way we could afford a flight, a car, park tickets, meals, gas, and the rest. So we decided to drive straight through overnight because we just wanted to get down there ASAP. We were absolutely exhausted the next day, and spent most of it sleeping. We stayed with my aunt and uncle who live about 45 minutes from the parks. We went to the Magic Kingdom a few days later, and we went with my aunt and uncle who knew what was about to happen. Before we got to the Magic Kingdom, we stopped for a big breakfast. It was a nice way to start the day, but I was already jittery and stopping to eat just made me more anxious! When we got to the park, we spent some time walking down Main Street and even got our picture with Daisy Duck. Denise said later that she thought I was going to pop the question that day, but I kind of threw her off by stopping to take pictures and such on the way to the castle. Also, she said she was looking for a ring box but couldn't find one so that confused her, too. The truth was that I was carrying the ring around in my pants pocket, which made me extremely nervous. I was checking my pocket about every 30 seconds to make sure it was still there! When we got to the Castle, there was already a small crowd of people taking pictures, so we had to wait for a little bit to get our chance in front of the Castle. It finally came down to Denise and I and another family. The gentleman from the other family asked us if we wanted to go next, and I'm usually always courteous in this situation and allow the other person to go first, but in this case I said "Yes, thank you." So we gave our camera to my aunt who said she would take the picture, and took our place in front of the castle. When we were up there, I dropped to one knee and asked her to be my princess. She said yes, of course. When it was over, we walked back to my aunt and uncle and the gentleman from the other family told us he was really glad he let us go first! There were also more people there that came as the whole thing happened, and one lady was even crying! It was a pretty awesome thing, and it's a memory we'll share forever. What was the first thing we did after getting engaged? We hopped on the newly refurbed Haunted Mansion! Nothing starts off a life of togetherness like the Haunted Mansion! We spent most of the rest of the day enjoying the Magic Kingdom. At dinnertime, my aunt and uncle treated us to a meal at the Kona Cafe in the Polynesian. It was a wonderful meal, and it's made that restaurant one of my personal favorites ever since. While we were eating, it rained pretty hard outside. That was perfect, because we missed all the weather and by the time dinner was over a lot of people had actually cleared out of the park. After dinner, we decided to take the monorail over to Epcot (we had a Park Hopper option on our tickets). Denise had never been to Epcot, and I wanted to take some time and show her some of the countries. We had a really romantic stroll around World Showcase and had a blast walking through some of the shops. After that, we went back over to the Magic Kingdom for SpectroMagic and Wishes. It was a wonderful day full of memories and magic, and it was special that we got to spend some of it with family also. If I have one piece of advice to give for someone planning on doing this, I'd have to say that you need to pick something special. The Castle may not be the perfect spot to do this, even though it might be tempting to do it there. WDW is full of romantic and fun things, so you have to pick the one thing that you and your special someone relate to. I can't really recommend one particular spot because there are so many, but I'm sure there has to be one that fits just right. Do some research and see what WDW has to offer. I'm sure you'll find the right place! This episode of the DizFanatic Podcast is sponsored by WDWTravels.com which is a full service travel company specializing in Disney vacations. This week's episode is a longer one, but it is well worth the download wait (especially in High Definition!). This week's episode, if you have somehow missed it in the title, is of SpectroMagic. After a long day of running around the Disney parks I camped out a great location to be in the front and have all the floats coming towards me before making the turn at Liberty Square. Enjoy.
