0:00 .... Hello and welcome 0:30 ... Bruce introduces tonight's special guest ... long time NBA journalist Steve Bulpett, the original Greek Freak of the NBA family who taught Bruce the correct pronunciation of his favorite Greek delicacy "Spanakopita." 1:38 ... Opening Thoughts: Bruce moans about his miserable NCAA Tournament experience so far. 3:19 ... World B recognizes the Bulls' improvement since the All Star Break ... 5:14 ... Steve takes issue with Bruce for his attitude about the last four teams (#65-68) in the NCAA Tournament and how Dayton, Ohio is an integral part of the story. 8:48 ... Ross is not happy about Memphis' excuse for Ja Morant not returning on Monday vs Dallas. 9:59 ... Steve discusses what the Boston Celtics need to do to resume their success from earlier in the season. 15:44 ... World B takes the Celtics to task for their recent mediocre play and poor offensive inefficiency. 17:28 ... The Golden State Warriors have been a big disappointment this season and Stebve wonders if their troubles began after an incident during a preseason practice. 21:58 ... World B feels that the Warriors lack of attention to defense during road games has been their biggest issue. 24:20 ... Ross agrees with Steve and World B that the absence of Gary Payton II is a huge reason for the team's poor defense. Ross adds that the loss of reserve guard Damion Lee has really hurt their bench. 24:56... The crew discusses the big storyline for the stretch run and it concerns Kevin Durant and the Suns. Steve is concerned about the depth of the team. 26:56 ... Is Deandre Ayton worth the max contract he signed before the season? 31:31... Steve worries about the cohesiveness of the Suns if Durant isn't ready until the start of the playoffs. 33:53 ... Ross plays Word Association with Steve and asks him about Knicks Coach Tom Thibodeau and Celtics legend Tommy Heinsohn. 34:34 ... Steve launches into some great Heinsohn stories including several of a personal nature .... wonderful stuff for any Celtics fan to hear! 40:18 ... Ross opens a random package of basketball cards and requires Bruce, World B, and Steve to comment "off the cuff" on the players he pulls from the pack. Steve got totally hosed with two of the cards he was asked about but still delivered! Some of the players Ross pulled were Walker Kessler, Tyrese Maxey, Donovan Mitchell, Chris Paul, Kristaps Porzingis, DeAaron Fox, CJ McCollum, and several other good names. 53:02 ... Steve has a cool story about McCollum and why he missed some free throws in Boston earlier this season. 57:45 ... Final Thoughts: World B with some perspective on the bad blood between Dillon "The Villain" Brooks of Memphis and the Splash Brothers in Golden State ... 59:42 ... Bruce explains why his favorite player to watch during the NCAA Tournament has actually been Steven Adams of the Grizzlies in his commercial for ATT Wireless. 1:01:12 ... Steve has a great story about Cinderella team Fairleigh Dickinson and how the team was "adopted" by the University of Dayton pep band. The FDU players never heard their fight song until it was played by another school's band. 1:02:20 ... Steve slips in a really funny John Stockton/Karl Malone story from years ago. 1:03:33 ... Ross gives us a preview of Tuesday's matchup between the Celtics and the Sacramento Kings and slips in some betting advice ... "Take the Under!" 1:04:43 ... The Celtics and the rest of the NBA are just 5 days from the 12 days from the NBA All-Star Break. The Celtics in the previous week played 2 big games against teams that were ahead of them in the standings hoping to show Celtics GM Brad Stevens and Celtics Nation that maybe they have what it takes to make a playoff run and not to make any big trades at the deadline which is February 10th 3PM ET. The Celtics played both the Miami Heat who were the #1 seeded team in the Eastern Conference. Then the Charlotte Hornets who are the #7 seeded team in the East. The Celtics went into both games healthy while both of their opponents went into the games missing players giving the Celtics an advantage. The Celtics managed to beat both those teams and the results had many saying the team is looking much better and playing the way they should BUT we arent sold yet on them cause of the players who were missing or its only 2 games. So do our host agree with them or not? Meanwhile during the last week Steve Bulpett of Heavy.com reported that Jaylen Brown could be willing to leave the team if the team didnt start to live up to their potential as he would feel at that point its just not the right fit. This has had many Boston Sports reporters and Celtics Insiders questioning would and should the team now start considering the idea of trading Jaylen Brown sooner rather then later rather then risking another Kyrie Irving type situation where you lose the superstar for nothing. The Celtics Talk Crew discusses that major topic plus the last week of action and what we expect at the trade deadline on this edition of Celtics Talk Radio

Now that Celtics President Danny Ainge has left the building and former coach Brad Stevens is the new team President, the first order of business is hiring a new head coach. There are a number of intriguing names out there, some with Boston ties. Veteran NBA journalist Steve Bulpett, who has covered and followed the Celtics since the 1980s joins King McClure and Bruce Bernstein (subbing in for Monica McNutt) to discuss which direction the team could go with its next head coach.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Steve Bulpett covered the Boston Celtics and has been an observer of the team for almost 40 years. His institutional knowledge of the franchise makes him an ideal person to discuss this week's major moves with the retirement of team President Danny Ainge and promotion of head coach Brad Stevens to replace Ainge as team President. Who will Stevens hire as the next coach? Was Ainge forced out after a disappointing season? Will Kyrie Irving's accusations against Boston fans damage the image of the franchise? When King McClure and guest co-host Bruce Bernstein (subbing for Monica McNutt) chop it up with Steve, all angles are covered. Also, King has some poignant thoughts on the resignation of Duke's legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski as well as the remarkable Luka Doncic of the Mavericks.

Mike Wise has the week off, so Bruce Bernstein welcomes veteran NBA journalist Steve Bulpett to the show. Steve has covered the Boston Celtics since the 1980s and he shares his thoughts on how the Celtics will fare in the wake of Danny Ainge's trade deadline moves. Is Robert Williams III the answer at center? Will Evan Fournier provide enough scoring and playmaking to complement the current group? Does Fournier's presence mean that Kemba Walker's role could be affected? Steve and Bruce also discuss whether the Celtics play "too nice," and whether they need to follow Marcus Smart's example of grittiness if they expect to reach their potential as a team.
Steve Bulpett is the dean of Celtics beat writers. He spent 35 consecutive years covering the Celtics, and no one in the history of the team has covered them as a beat writer for longer. He's here with us to discuss all things NBA. This is Bulpett’s first season in almost four decades not following the team, home and away. But that doesn’t mean he doesn't still have the scoop on the Green. He shares his views on calls for Brad Stevens' job, the hero ball tendencies of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, and how Danny Ainge is viewed by other NBA GMs. Like many of us, he wasn't impressed by NBA All-Star “weekend” and thinks the dunk contest is lacking. He also shares some amazing stories from the glory days of the Larry Bird Celtics when the players and the media had a lot more in common, including sharing flights and buses. According to the Boston Herald's Steve Bulpett, a few teams thought to have interest in acquiring Kyrie Irving this summer are now more wary of bringing him in. According to Bulpett's report, based on the way things ended this season with the Celtics and Irving's role off the court all year, some teams are worried about putting all their stock on Irving right away. Steve Bulpett joins Celtics Stuff Live as the final guest of the regular season. With two games remaining, Steve places an emphasis on playing out the season and establishing or maintaining the team's rhythm in lieu of resting players and accepting the 6th seed to stay out of the Cavaliers bracket in the postseason. Steve also discussed his belief that the extra cap room this summer will be a cause for even less free agent movement and that the Celtics are not willing to give a max contract to a player who isn't deserving for a number of reasons. After the interview with Steve, Jon and Justin make their predictions for how the Celtics will finish out the year and the odds that Dallas could still fall out of the playoffs and possibly handover the 12th pick in the draft (the spot Devin Booker was picked in last year). The NBA Trade Deadline has come and gone. No moves for the Boston Celtics, but could there have been? There have been rumors that Jahlil Okafor was nearly sent to Boston before the Philadelphia 76ers backed out at the last second? Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald stops by Celtics Beat to recap the deadline. Bulpett may have been the man who cracked the code on the mysterious trade that Danny Ainge alluded to in Friday interviews in Boston. It's not just if Okafor was the guy, what was the level of interest in other Celtics players in the roster. Are there worries that the team may have ‘too many' draft picks for Draft Night? And what about the other rumored deals for Dwight Howard or Al Horford? Were these at all legit? Celtics Beat isn't done there. The Celts have a game today against the Denver Nuggets and Justin Poulin will stop by for the Pregame segment. And, it doesn't end there...the triumphant return of Around the NBA in 5! Busy week for the Boston Celtics, and a fairly successful week at that. Boston dropped a tough contest last night to the Milwaukee Bucks, ending their three-game winning streak. But are we now seeing some noticeable improvement from certain individuals as well as the team? Host Larry H. Russell seems to think so. The team has made marked improvements in three key areas since the beginning of the season, and that's a very positive development for the Boston Celtics. LHR also spoke with Wyc Grousbeck and Rich Gotham regarding how they feel about the team in a feature piece that is available on clnsradio.com. LHR will further discuss the piece and how he personally currently feels about the team now and going forward on the show. And that's not all. Longtime Boston Celtics beat reporter for the Boston Herald, Steve Bulpett, will join Celtics Beat once again and provide the latest buzz surrounding the Celts. Is there still a possibility for more moves? Is LHR's optimism justified? Can this team really make a playoff push? Steve will have this and more on Episode 91. We'd also like to welcome the return of our longtime friend - Around the NBA in 5. So tune in this Sunday for another edition of Celtics Beat, presented by lynda.com/clns. Available for download on iTunes and Stitcher Sunday, February 8th, 2015. Powered by CLNS Radio.
